- Phil Morrisons daily-driven E46 M3 with M5 V10 engine conversion at the Nurburgring in 2013, where it broke the 130db flyby noise limit while chucking 8-foot flames out of the exhaust bypass valve. Good times!

Aron Malte Engel 130db is just the decibel reading, which is how loud the exhaust is, and there’s a certain db you can’t go over on some tracks, just so you know, not to be a dickhead or amything

@@atomickoala62 He meant to inform Aron that the 130db rating isn't specifically because the engine is modified, that's exhaust work that governs that.

Mine also. Brother. Get one....I have two Dream Cars my 04 E46M3 and my old 66 GMC 4x4 Suburban... Totally very very two different driving experiences. Love them both. But I lean more to the Suburban only because I use to live in it when times were tough. But the M3 is fuckin Beast. A little bit to much car for me. Mine is completely stock. Get one!

I love these cars and all BMW drivers do, there is nothing wrong with an unreliable car, it comes with the pure euphoria of such driving such a beautiful car. Thanks! It's an E92M3 gearbox. Which is what the US e60 manual used.
Driftworks quality mate ...just right on the money...not sure why BMW went smg only with the e60 it’s absolute dog shit for normal usage...it’s what puts me of the e60 m5..interesting that the e92 box deals with the torque , have you ever seen an e60 with that swap?
Dagnut SMG is dogshit for normal usage but its god mode for racing. A 500hp v10 is not made for normal usage in the first place. Yeah SMG is expensive to replace but they never said these cars were cheap to maintain did they?
dagnut as he said, it’s the same gearbox as the US E60 M5 used, since in the US, the E60 M5 was available with a manual.
Micheal .Loomer yup the e34 m5 is the same 6sp found in the mk4 Supra and will take a 1,000 whp which is insane

why are the flames coming from under the exhaust ? is this where the open valves are? so open valves are before the exhaust.

Flames close to the tank lol , and? Its a tank not a paperbag ,nothings happening there and the tank is under the backseats not under the trunk
@@peterzingler6221 its a bypass for the exhaust. and besides the flame isn't close enough to blow up the gas tank.

Haha nice, we were also there during DN Trackday. With the snow we had to drive the GP track only on the 1st day and then second day we had full VLN course :-). I do remember the sound of this crazy car!

130db is a ridiculous to be fair, at that volume you’re just distracting and fatiguing yourself as much as anything.
You’ll also be less likely to notice any noises that your tyres are giving off from the ground to let you know about the quality of the tarmac on a given section, or how close to the edge of your grip you are.
It's a daily driven road car with full interior so it's not 130db inside the car ;)
Driftworks how does a racetrack have a decibel level? So legit racecars are quieter than that M?
Most racetracks have a maximum allowed noise level. The Nurburgring is very high compared to most. Most of our tracks in the UK are 98db most days, with a certain allocation of higher noise level days allowed for some.

I remember seeing this at the 2 day destination nurburgring trackday in early 2013, also on the vln layout. I recall there were some teething problems with the sump plug! Perfect setup, what diff ratio is in it? ever tempted to run shorter (assuming 6th still works on the long Ring straights), not to make it quicker but just sound even more eager through the gears.
Cool! Yeah I hit the sump plug coming out of karussell & it fell out on the Grand Prix circuit. I'd have been in a lot of trouble if it'd fallen out 40 seconds earlier on the back straight at 180mph 😬
If only one day I could build an e46 like this.
I guess I'll have to kidnap Phil for a week just for him to tell me every step of the conversion. Especially that sweet exhaust note

I remember being at the 'Ring when the E60 M5 was the Ring Taxi. I was rather underwhelmed by the sound as it passed my E30 M3. I now know how it should have sounded.
You could make your e30 m3 comparable if you sent the motor in to Metric Mechanics
