  • Here is Mike Harrison with his giant “Jurassic Jigsaw. “You can see a lovely Crinoid Cup, there on his Jurassic Coast find - that Mike made recently. He has worked ever so hard to put a lot of the Crinoid fragments back together again. This film is an update of his work in progress ! The other film 🎥 I made of Mike finding this specimen I’ve included in this UA-cam video as follows - Mike Harrison has found the most wonderful crinoid fossil you could ever imagine. Here is just a fragment of what he has been digging up, in a mud slip. The area he is digging in and working on ,is like “soft cream cheese.” He has got special permission to do that work by the National Trust . Mike has another large fossil he found on Black Ven, that is the skull of an Ichthyosaur- in the Lyme Regis Museum. We will bring you more film on UA-cam of this crinoid specimen, when its fully developed.The best tools are your eyes when finding fossils. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right little rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs, the best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfo... There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassic Coast.

    An amazing fossil find, probably the best find in many a year.

      Great stuff, I was lucky 🍀 enough to get to help for a day with the work . Filming the Crinoid has been really good fun . It’s not properly finished yet . So maybe Mike will display it in the Lyme Regis Museum at some point , along with his 5 feet 👣 Ichthyosaur skull that is there also he found ! I have an Ichthyosaur skull in the Lyme Regis Museum also but that’s just over one foot 🦶 😁

    This crinoid plate is absolutely stunning! I know he has permission to dig it out from the National Trust but once it’s complete will he have to donate it to the Museum or other society?

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  2 роки тому +2

      It’s an amazing fossil find . Mike is just working so hard still to completely piece it back together again ! So maybe it will end up in a museum. Mike has fossils around the world in museums. In the Lyme Regis Museum he has a 5ft Ichthyosaur skull and paddle and huge huge back bones

  • @DougguoD
    @DougguoD 2 роки тому +1

    Probably a very obvious suggestion (to everyone but me), couldn't the pieces be numbered for reference when putting slabs back togeather? Or is the material too wet?

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  2 роки тому

      Mike had some colour dot coding on the pieces . He has amazed me how he has fitted it back together so far . Numbering for reference is always a good habit to get into as well

    • @DougguoD
