I have run into that before with some concocted make do hardware combinations. ua-cam.com/video/hyGbjPE33oU/v-deo.html If you have problems with the video link, set the anaglyph to 2D.
I never would have understand such complicated process. I watch Gary's videos and than I go to my friends & explain this science to them. Thank you Gary for putting up all so detailed and informative videos. it actually makes me appreciate all this things I take it for granted.
Gary Sims and my years of using UA-cam has finally paid off! lol. but yes you do say I'll show you in a minute it's really quite humorous, to me at least. enjoyed the review none the less.
how many uses do people have to use faster data rates? most people just use bluetooth to connect to speakers and headphones and if it is good enough for that then i don't see a use case for the increased speed. The increased range is the only notable thing in my book.
Bluetooth Classic which is used for connecting to headphones and speakers is different from Bluetooth Low Energy. The changes in the Bluetooth 5 specification are only for Bluetooth Low Energy devices. BLE devices are typically fitness bands, wireless keyboards etc. As a consumer you might never know there is a difference, but I am sure you will appreciate a much faster firmware update on your BLE devices, which is one of the issues solved with Bluetooth 5 and faster data rates.
Thanks Gary for making such an in-depth explanation of BT 5 (and other technologies). I really liked how you also compared to BTLE 4.2, seeing how big of an improvement BT 5 provides. Keep the vids coming!
Also useful feature of BT5 is the ability to connect 2 devices together. Eg you may have a two bluetooth speakers to get LEFT and RIGHT stereo. Or two headset, or Amplifier (bluetooth) and headphones etc.
Yeah I'm aware ;) was just venting a bit about most of the tech content being very superficial and dumbed down to be easier to watch. Really enjoyed your interviews at MWC (I believe) about the SD835 etc btw
I guess you forgot to show us which programm/app/method do you use for testing the Bluetooth speed. I would like to test mine and I´m not sure how to do it. Thx in advance.
You didn't talk about you being able to connect 2 pairs of headphones almost like a Y cable and you don't tell us how much better audio can output to headphones since it is a short distance and you can compress less to get better audio. Could it even handle a FLAC codec?
Gary...what happens to battery life in the CODED mode? Have you run tests to see how battery performance is effected with distance or over time for 100+ meters?
Gary, Thank you for this relevant information. I have a cat and 3 dogs who need to move outdoor from time to time. Thus to provide security and keep the doors closed during winter doggy-door tech will be employed. I think Bluetooth 5 will allow them to come and go while maintaining a secure id that allows them to enter and bars others from coming in.
Great video ! I always enjoy how your hardwork in order to inform the people about the new tehnology that is always upgrading ! I really appreciate ! Looking forward to testing the new bluetooth 5.0 .
so let me get this straight, 16 ft we get increase speed...aka more than enough distance to your device. does this mean that possibly we can use our Bluetooth to transmit Mic/Audio without the lost of audio quality?
Gary, thank you very much! The WHOLE world understood that Bluetooth 5.0 gives us 2xSpeed at 4xRange, considering what you say, Bluetooth 5.0 is still a big step forward, but not even close as big as it was presented.
Hey Gary good stuff as always.... Question: Can a BT5 beacon transmit (and be received by) to a BT4 cell phone with the full capabilities of the 255 char ad line? Also, can the BT4 cell take advantage of the extended range or do BOTH devices (sender + rec) have to be BT5? Thanks!
Hi Gary, I always love watching UA-cam tech videos and learning about it. But most of all, I learned a lot about from your videos, which explains the bit by bit of technology by showing it to us, rather than just saying it. Just like how ur explaining about Bluetooth 5.0
still no stock feature for dual /quad audio pairing currently BT only useful for audio services ,file sharing completely horrible (Samsung S8 only one support dual audio pairing....
free mov with the new feature of mesh networking being introduced into this standard we will see much more than just a few devices being connected. however I'm not sure if the data can be manipulated in such a way to have multiple speakers take advantage. I'm hopeful.
Gary great video -question I hook a 5.0 adapter to my Stereo ...than Bluetooth it from my Nvida Shield to it (transfer sound from unit to stereo/5.0 adapter ) can I than connect 2 Bluetooth speakers to it for audio? Or will the Nvidia Shield to the 5.0 adapter count as 1 connection?
Does the speed of the data transfer also rely on the Bluetooth receiver? So a Bluetooth 5 to 5 would be 2mbps Would a Bluetooth 5 to 4.2 be also 2mbps or it would be downscaled to 1mbps
one thing I wonder. why did you place the board on your laptop? isn't it better to have the least amount of interference when you use such devices away from other electronics. but even with that, good results. seems like a good alternative to controlling other devices over long distance via Bluetooth. and in short distance better audio quality for earbuds or portable speakers.
Bluetooth is a lot like an old car. It can seem pretty crap at first with all of its quirks but once you get used to "driving it" it's really quite useful...... and I'd argue that wifi is similar in that there's a kind of unspoken "learning curve" Oh well... I use both technologies regularly, just some of my two cents
Thanks Gary for the video.... very informative ! Now that Note 8 is out, I wonder if u have a chance to verify if it implement the full Bluetooth 5 stack. Thanks so much.
I heard it is going to be able to connect multiple devices at a time. for example I will be able to connect with 2 different wireless headphones at a time..! is it true??? If yes then why isn't anyone talking about it..??
good video Gary , it will be interesting , to see how well it works with the Snapdragon 835 equipped devices , and being able to connect two bluetooth devices at once should be very handy.
There is nothing to explain, just like you tune a radio to 109.2FM, so mobile phones tune their internal radios to the frequency used in a region to get the voice and data signals it needs.
I have a question. If I send a file from a mobile having Bluetooth 5 to three other mobiles having Bluetooth 5, 4.2 and 4.1 (one at a time, and the same file each time), in which case will the transfer rate be faster?? All the mobiles are kept next to each other
Who is maker of Bluetooth 5? Is it Nordic? BT 5 is new so there's still room to grow even though its not a really significant advancement especially at greater distances. At shorter distance there's a
random question. hi i just got the android security patch level update 3-1-17 a few days ago and i don't like it i want to go back to the 2016 patch. stupid me i thought if i factory reset my phone that it would work but it didn't. is there another way?
exect for me i personally use specific programs on my phone and the new update disabled those apps now so the only way i can use those apps is if i go back to using the security level update from 2016
Myself and others cannot get 2 speakers to be exactly in sync. The lag is awful!! "separating the speakers does not help at all. Anybody have any info on this? It's literally unusable the lag is so bad!!
Honestly though I'm much more excited for getting g our new wifi. live in the middle if nowhere and have frontier, bbbuuuuttttt we found out that the tower on top of the silos less than 30 seconds from our house is noize net, and we are definitely close as we live in the original also farm house but the farm operations keep going. IM SO HYPED!!!
Gary always very informative
Gary's a lecturer at Oxford university.
I wish! :-)
Gary Sims 😉😉😉😁😁😁😁
Gary Sims you have done a Ph.D in computer science
No, unfortunately not, just an honors degree.
Gary Sims better than me, I'm just a 15 year old
All I could think of when you were in the mall was "Someone is going to think that's a bomb" lol
Yeah, we joked about the same thing when we were filming!
I have run into that before with some concocted make do hardware combinations. ua-cam.com/video/hyGbjPE33oU/v-deo.html If you have problems with the video link, set the anaglyph to 2D.
I remember once sending a phone theme from one Sony Ericson to another via Infrared. oh boy, even for those, what, like 300kb of data it took aaaages
Angelo Merte And keeping the infrared contacts touching like magnets 😂😂
I never would have understand such complicated process. I watch Gary's videos and than I go to my friends & explain this science to them. Thank you Gary for putting up all so detailed and informative videos. it actually makes me appreciate all this things I take it for granted.
this show should be called "I'll show you in a minute"
Why?
Gary Sims lol it's a joke but he does say "in a minute" a lot check out the first five minutes. just a bit of observational humor
Gary Sims lol it's a joke but he does say "in a minute" a lot check out the first five minutes. just a bit of observational humor
You know I am "he"!
Gary Sims and my years of using UA-cam has finally paid off! lol. but yes you do say I'll show you in a minute it's really quite humorous, to me at least. enjoyed the review none the less.
Thank you for the review.
Best show on Android Authority, love it
Gary, are you in love with your green screen?
Yes.
It's always a pleasure watching your videos Garry! The video was very informational.
great video like always ❤❤❤ thank you for all the effort and time you put in these videos
Thank you for your kind words and it is my pleasure, even more so when it is appreciated and seems to help people!
Gary explains is my favorite part of this channel, it provides so much information . Thank you for explaining Bluetooth 5.0
When he's says: "this is a map of my house" I cried 😂😂😂
Al Bundy Why?
Gary Sims I guess because how minimalistic the diagram was. It caught me off guard
Well I wasn't going to publish a full plan of my house for thousands of people see, was I! :-)
You hit the right balance of technical depth that makes already great android authority a complete tech review channel. Gary the great professor.
i love how you explain this complicated things in a very simple way and i think i learned alot of things here than my school
how many uses do people have to use faster data rates? most people just use bluetooth to connect to speakers and headphones and if it is good enough for that then i don't see a use case for the increased speed. The increased range is the only notable thing in my book.

Hey Gary, the explanation was good. But you have not explained about the two audio device support as its claimed in S8 😏
Thanks Gary for making such an in-depth explanation of BT 5 (and other technologies). I really liked how you also compared to BTLE 4.2, seeing how big of an improvement BT 5 provides. Keep the vids coming!

thank you for this video. I love all of your let me explain videos! keep it up.
Were you in Brasov Gary? That shopping center looked very familiar
can we update our bluetooth spears to 5.0? if yes, how?
No, but it is backward compatible so your existing speakers will work.
Gary Sims should join the Android Authority podcast and have a Q&A segment. It could be an interesting episode.
The real time experiment was amazing !! Thanks Gary !!
Glad you liked it. :-)
Finally someone on a tech channel actually going in depth and having a decent understanding of the matter
Finally? Finally? I have done nearly 40 videos for this channel!!! :-) LOL
Yeah I'm aware ;) was just venting a bit about most of the tech content being very superficial and dumbed down to be easier to watch. Really enjoyed your interviews at MWC (I believe) about the SD835 etc btw
Why can I give you only one thumb-up for this video?
You are really so much AWESOME!
I guess you forgot to show us which programm/app/method do you use for testing the Bluetooth speed. I would like to test mine and I´m not sure how to do it. Thx in advance.

Gary, You rock! Thank you for your fantastic videos :)

Great content, although the occasional audio ducking of the vocals is a bit distracting.
Hi Gary, What the difference between red light heart rate sensor & green light heart rate sensor?
Hey Gary good stuff as always.... Question:
Can a BT5 beacon transmit (and be received by) to a BT4 cell phone with the full capabilities of the 255 char ad line? Also, can the BT4 cell take advantage of the extended range or do BOTH devices (sender + rec) have to be BT5?

Bluetooth 5 for me is no improvement in audio quality but it will provide dual audio (2 Bluetooth speaker) now that's exciting
Why was there no mention of the power consumption?
Gary great video -question I hook a 5.0 adapter to my Stereo ...than Bluetooth it from my Nvida Shield to it (transfer sound from unit to stereo/5.0 adapter ) can I than connect 2 Bluetooth speakers to it for audio? Or will the Nvidia Shield to the 5.0 adapter count as 1 connection?
Is true that BT 5.0 is capable to play music in several speakers at the same time from one source (like S8 or V30)? Thanks
gary is a senior professor. great explanation
Hi Gary, does BLE 5.0 have the same limitation as to the number of slave devices in a piconet i.e. 7 slaves ?
Does doubled data speed also meens a delay half as long as in 4.2?
Not really... The data latency is normally set by your connection interval, which can only be as short as 7.5ms in both 4.2 and in 5.
How can I check my LG Stylo 3 Plus for what bluetooth version it uses.
Awesome video....Only if you released this video 2 days ago, I would've written all this in my hardware and networking exam.
@gary.. What about the ability to connect multiple devices to a single source? Is it available on Bluetooth 5?
Very nice explanations as always! I knew Bluetooth 5 sounded too good to be true. Thanks Gary!
my favorite lecturer...and not just on youtube
damn this! will it connect to BT audio headphones and fitness tracker at the same time?
excellent Gary it was interesting to understand the benefits of Bluetooth 5.. thanks for your efforts to get this video done ...
Does the speed of the data transfer also rely on the Bluetooth receiver?
So a Bluetooth 5 to 5 would be 2mbps
Would a Bluetooth 5 to 4.2 be also 2mbps or it would be downscaled to 1mbps
Has to be Bluetooth 5 to 5.
Thank you so much for sharing knowledge in such a simple and entertaining package!
Did you test its broadcasting capabilities by any point? How many devices max it can broadcast msg?
one thing I wonder. why did you place the board on your laptop? isn't it better to have the least amount of interference when you use such devices away from other electronics.
but even with that, good results. seems like a good alternative to controlling other devices over long distance via Bluetooth. and in short distance better audio quality for earbuds or portable speakers.
That was just for the shot, so I could show the laptop and board together. For more of the actual testing I moved the board off the laptop.
What's the thing in the background?
I'm still subscribed to aa because of him
Thank you for information on the important features of Bluetooth 5 with the throughput tests compared with Bluetooth 4.2
Bluetooth 5 is twice faster as Bluetooth 4.2 but, as the range increases transfer speed decreases.
However you get a range of 100 Mts+ that's great.
Bluetooth is a lot like an old car. It can seem pretty crap at first with all of its quirks but once you get used to "driving it" it's really quite useful...... and I'd argue that wifi is similar in that there's a kind of unspoken "learning curve"
Oh well... I use both technologies regularly, just some of my two cents
thank you for this! very interesting and informative!
Honestly, The only real benefits of Android Authority videos comes from Gary.
WHY NOT CREAT YOUR OWN UA-cam CHANNEL !
What your forgetting about what's good about 5.0 is the size of data sent over that speed
It rivals wifi
*according to a previous video you made
Sir Gary you haven't talked about the possibility of dual connections on Bluetooth 5
Thanks Gary for the video.... very informative ! Now that Note 8 is out, I wonder if u have a chance to verify if it implement the full Bluetooth 5 stack. Thanks so much.
This is so good! Thank you very much for making this video.
I heard it is going to be able to connect multiple devices at a time. for example I will be able to connect with 2 different wireless headphones at a time..! is it true??? If yes then why isn't anyone talking about it..??
Check the Bluetooth 5 in the s8 and let us know. Very good video as always.
good video Gary , it will be interesting , to see how well it works with the Snapdragon 835 equipped devices , and being able to connect two bluetooth devices at once should be very handy.
garry sir how about making a video about theory of computation..would be awesome
can I get an extended range with my Bluetooth 4.2 headphone when I use it with a phone with built-in Bluetooth 5.0 ?
No.
can u pls say how to make a simple computer 8-bit may be
Can you explain how bands or frequencies work? Like LTE 600mhz
There is nothing to explain, just like you tune a radio to 109.2FM, so mobile phones tune their internal radios to the frequency used in a region to get the voice and data signals it needs.
Gary Sims, the only reason why I'm not unsubscribing from this channel...
I have a question.
If I send a file from a mobile having Bluetooth 5 to three other mobiles having Bluetooth 5, 4.2 and 4.1 (one at a time, and the same file each time), in which case will the transfer rate be faster?? All the mobiles are kept next to each other
Bluetooth 5 to Bluetooth 5 assuming that both devices support the new 2 Mbps physical layer (as it is optional).
If my TV has BT 4.2 and my speaker BT 5 ¿do I get any benefit from BT 5?
Anyone know of any v5.0 headphones or yet?
The s8 isn't using the Bluetooth 5?
we LOVE you Gary!!!!!!
Just a heads up, the echo is very noticeable in this video. Otherwise great content. :)
I guess I need to put some sound damping materials on my walls!
Thank you for testing these capabilities, but too long. You should do to versions of these vids; this one and a short succinct one.
And where is the High Speed mode? Bluetooth 3.1 was able to achieve 40Mb/s.
Who is maker of Bluetooth 5? Is it Nordic? BT 5 is new so there's still room to grow even though its not a really significant advancement especially at greater distances. At shorter distance there's a
Jig going on but, yeah, still room to grow.
what's about the energy costs of Bluetooth 5.0?
Tobias S. improved
good info. most likely the next iteration of 5.1 and above will most likely better optimise it..
What PR and Hype? I didn't even know it was a thing until I hopped onto youtube review videos lol
random question. hi i just got the android security patch level update 3-1-17 a few days ago and i don't like it i want to go back to the 2016 patch. stupid me i thought if i factory reset my phone that it would work but it didn't. is there another way?
Gabe x the security patches change nothing concerning the user experience.
exect for me i personally use specific programs on my phone and the new update disabled those apps now so the only way i can use those apps is if i go back to using the security level update from 2016
2 "development" boards not consumer dono product I just not got 5.0 bluetooth ear buds this year
Samsung s8 has Bluetooth 5.0 why you didn't use it.
Myself and others cannot get 2 speakers to be exactly in sync. The lag is awful!! "separating the speakers does not help at all. Anybody have any info on this? It's literally unusable the lag is so bad!!
I'm so happy that the s8 has Bluetooth 5.0
Gary keeps his beard clean and trimmed
I wish I had one of those british accents.
GARY!

his name is Gary Sims
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
You could have just given us a synopsis of your findings right away.
