    Thank you! I love this! You can do this with the plastic poles or diy. I don't make enough to get the individual pieces - I just buy the D-shaped plastic ones. I use mine with Pon quite frequently - but I'm usually repotting when I add them. I never thought to use the moss as a plug! Brilliant! I do fill the bottom with Pon, setting the pole in the planter, the weight seems to add stability. The last one I made I used moss, tree fern fiber, orchid bark, and charcoal. Time will tell if the Esqueleto likes it!
    On a personal note, you're amazing. You're sick but you're taking the time to share this with us! Also, your beauty is not diminished by the camera angle; you don't need to be so self-conscious!
    I have a lot of respect for you and am a bit in awe of your dedication! Please, feel better soon!

    I do admire your patience and work put into making these moss poles🌸 Cool inspiration adding soil mix into it - I must try it too.
    Based on Sydney Plant Guy instruction video, I made my first moss pole only from chicken-wire - so much work, and it kept drying within 2-3 days. Never again 😀
    Then I bought 3D printed plastic ones - much more expensive (maybe too expensive if I needed many of them🤔), but hardly any work and I water it only every 10 days or so.

      Thank you! It's all about finding what works best for you. Those 3D printed poles sound efficient but agree, the cost can add up. Your experiments are inspiring! ✨🌸

      I agree! The D shaped plastic ones with a mix of moss and chunky mix holds water best for me.

    Brilliant! I make my own D-shaped moss poles, but I struggle to keep them from drying out. They take so much sphagnum moss, but I love what you’re doing and can’t wait to try it with the different filling and sphagnum just to hold it in.

      So glad to hear you're inspired! The D-shape can be tricky, when using just moss (and expensive!!!) but adding different fillings should help. Looking forward to your feedback! 🌱🛠️

    I can see how the aroid mix would stay moist longer. Also, love how you plug the bottom with moss. Thanks for sharing Memo!

    Thank you for that idea Memo, i just made a huge moss pole for seven adansonii cuttings which i want to climb up together. I used much heavier mix inside since the pole should be heavy and its really great.

    Idk Memo. I’ve made moss poles from wire ect. It cost me 50,60$ for six or so. I’d rather buy the premade plastic ones, it’s just easier. 😂 I tilt the poles in the shower, so easy. 🫶🏼💚

    At the moment, I purchased translucent D-shaped moss poles from eBay (frame only) until I can find a message that I want to make.
    I use the upside down bottle method to water them :-). However I’m going to get bottles and cut them in half and put holes in the lids and then refill like that so I don’t have to remove the bottle all the time

      Love the bottle watering hack! Cutting them for easier refills is clever. Thanks for the tip, and happy crafting with your D-shaped poles! 💧🌿

      Anytime :). Again, like you said in this video, I’m sure it’s not New LOL
      So I’m going to buy a 24 pack of water bottles tomorrow and then use them for my poles 😅. Thanks for the video ❤

    I recently did some mini pole for propagation purposes, they are about the same size as yours and once the plant reaches the top I will cut it off and plant them together to get a fuller plant, so for me the small pole does have a place in the plant world as well :D
    I did only a sheet in the back, no netting in the front. I just hold them together with some elastics, and one I tried just some clear tape. This way when I take the plant out of the pole (which in this case I know I will) I don´t have to fiddle the roots trough the net. I think I saw in someones video and they calles it a lazy pole. I don´t think it would work for big poles, but for small ones it really nice and simple. I have a big pole made of a PVC pipe, a bit labor intensive in the beginning but then really easy to fill, stack and reuse, and again, no netting the roots grow trough. I saw it in a video from "how to kill that plant".

      Mini poles for propagation are such a great idea! The lazy pole concept sounds super convenient for small-scale projects. Always exciting to share and learn from each other's experiences. 🌱👍

    I use smart water bottle and cut them apart for the plastic backing. Love the video! I also struggled watering them when I had all moss. Definitely going to try ypur method♡

    🇦🇺🙋🏻 hi Memo. Ahhhh moss poles... Everyone has their personal preferences. My dubia is on a moss/soil layered pole (brilliant minds 😂) others I've made use spagnum wrapped in landscaping material (doesn't become hydrophobic) and then covered in coir matting. I've used PVC pipe rather than a janky?? stick, I sealed it 2/3 down, drilled 2 very small holes in the top section. Pour water in, walk away. I had a larger piece of PVC pipe so cut it length ways, and used it as a D moss pole back. I've used a flexible PVC mesh called gutter guard, but I think the holes may be a bit small, live and learn. I have not thought of using bird mesh, I have a tonne of it. I have to say, zip ties are fiddly and annoying 🤦🏻 😅 I use bonsai wire and spiral it around the pole.😊
    I also have some left over corflute (corrugated plastic) that I think might work as a backing.

      Hi Chris, your setup sounds amazing! Love the creativity and the use of materials. Bonsai wire is a fantastic idea, i need to dig up mine and use it; I might try that next. Thanks for the detailed share! 🇦🇺🌱

    Nice, plastic back moss poles definitely help a lot with retaining water, adding an extra water retentive substrate layer in the back is clever, I haven't seen that before.

    Crafting time with Memo! Love it! I’m definitely going to try this. I just have 2 moss poles and I’m super annoyed at trying to rehydrate them when they dry out too much. I’d love to see more videos like this, repotting and propagating and what have you.

      Have you tried stacking them? I’m wondering how high they will reasonably go and still be stable. I imagine you could attach a few sheets of plastic together and cut the mesh big enough to cover all of them, with a longer support stake.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  8 місяців тому

      Crafting time is always fun! Stacking them can work wonders for height and stability, especially with proper support (bigger support stick in the back and velcro ties are your friend when stacking. More DIY content coming soon - your enthusiasm fuels the channel! 💚

    You can use water bottle of 1.5 ml. U can cut it from half and its better than acetate beause it stays much more stronger. I liked that idea soil and moss... But is not moss holds much more water in it? Then what is the use of soil? I have to try that one but if it works for u, it will work for us💖

    Have you had any problems with the moss plug rotting when in contact with soil? I’m really wanting to try this!

  • @Horsewoman-pt2ku
    @Horsewoman-pt2ku 8 місяців тому +3

    Does the combination of soil and moss stay wet longer? Just curious. Also how many extensions can you go with using acetate as it’s somewhat thinner material or do you find its thickness the same as the store bought moss pole material as I haven’t used store bought yet. Thanks

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, the soil-moss mix does tend to stay moist longer! I've successfully added several extensions with acetate; its durability is comparable to store-bought materials. It's all about securing it well, big support sticks in the back attached with velcro plant ties make a big difference! 🌱
