Like this comment if you like these electrical videos! Should I keep making them?
Helpful video. Just installed 23 lights after watching your video. Hope they are still working and have a long life span. Thank you
Good video preciate it, I’m a apprentice electrician going on 8yrs I’ve been on plenty residential/commercial jobs I’ve seen it all but one thing I haven’t is soffit lighting & I know this is a new thing people are starting to do. I do a lot of side work & customers are starting to want this new lighting & the company I work for has never done this before.. now I can make some more money off soffit lighting lol, video was easy to understand preciate it again
No problem! That is exactly why I made the video. I saw little to no info at the time, so I wanted to show others how it’s done ✅
I’m a Electrician also going on 11 years an I’ve never installed soffit lights
I've being looking for someone to make this video. Thank you!
You’re welcome! ⚡️
Was looking to do the same on my house. Thanks for the video
Major upgrade!!
Fantastic video, nicely done !
i have that same ladder i love it!
Can I ask why you had to go in the attic? Are we able to usually fish the wires from the outside? How did you tie all the cables back to the porch light isn't their obstructions in the way?
Do these work as they should in freezing weather?
What does something like that run per light but on 4inch leds. for installation quote?
Great work
Can they be controlled by a dimmer switch....?
How far away is the Bluetooth range,...?
Excellent job my dude. Led lighting has become so inexpensive and easy to use!!
Yes it has! Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏽👌🏽
Nice job! I have the same exact soffit material and same lights. My question is did those light still seat when the joist was right behind the hole you drilled or did you have to shave/remove some material off the joist so it would seat?
If I remember correctly, it would hit 1 of the clips on the light fixture . But if you rotate the light so both the clips don’t touch the joist. It can be installed without having to shave any additional wood 👍🏽
Just a heads up, the link for 6 -3/8 hole saw is for a 6 inch hole saw
How would I drill the holes in steel soffits on my post frame?
Good job 👍
Nice job.
Question: Did the junction boxes come with the lights or did you have to purchase them separately? It looks like the boxes weren’t secured to a rafter, correct?
The junction boxes come with the fixtures 👍🏽 I try to mount the junction boxes to the wood when I can but there are sometimes where it’s not accessible. If you can do it, if not … I wouldn’t worry so much about it since it’s service work & not new construction.
I have installed 9 lights, i love them just having 1 problem with 1 light . Its in the middle of them. A wifi and Bluetooth issue. Its always offline. Any ideas of fixing? Wifi signal is good around it as i have a wireless wifi camera right next to it
Looks nice! I’m looking to add some to my home. If the porch light switch is turned off, will the recessed lights be able to come on?
With the porch light off, all other soffit lights will be off 👍🏽 not until the switch is turned back on
I have these in the front and back of my house. My only issue is that when you turn them to any other color other than white or sepia they don’t have long distance to brighten the area in that particular color.
Do you have diagram how to connect all lights together? Thank you
Great job!! 1 question. Is that junction box used for each recessed light?
Yes it is!
Hi good video. how are you light doing so far. Any problem yet. ?
Hey good video thanx. 👍🏻 sparky questions - just hooked up 3 of these to the existing wiring from a hardwired direct from the panel 15 app breaker. I have three of these lights and motion light, while Daisy chain together direct to the panel. No switch in between. Is that OK? I’m wondering if a switch is needed for safety or any reason since I can control the lights with a timer at an app motion sensor was hardwired it had power all the time I don’t think I need to go to a switch first. But for some reason I’m questioning myself, I do that often lol✅
If it works, it will be fine. But you’re trusting the app for controls to turn on and off the lights which will not work 100% of the time. I would recommend a switch but of course… it’s not “needed”. Just don’t use any kind of dimmer switch. It needs to be a standard single pole switch.
Sparky Izzy,
Did the actual 6 3/8 allow for the fixture to fit perfect? What is it a 6 inch light requiring a 6 3/8 hole? Just curious. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am about to do this to my house and your video is extremely helpful. Thank you in advance
Eddie
Hello! The standard ceiling cut-out size for 6-inch housings is 6-3/8 inches. It’s a bit confusing but on a regular recessed can light, the 6-inches is the the inside diameter of the housing (trim removed). The hole needed needs to be slightly bigger to avoid additional cutting. Hope that helps!
I want to do this exact same thing you did . The only thing is I don’t have a light fixture above only the porch lights on both sides of garage and one by the front door . I’m probably going to have to get a electrician and Install a new light switch 🤦🏽♂️
Great video. Your home looks similar to ours in San Antonio. Did you run it all of the wiring to the overhead porch light? Looks great!
Yes everything was ran from the porch light above the front door 👍🏽
Oh ok I was gonna ask that. I was thinking of tapping into my garage lights
You can 👍🏽
@@sparky_izzywhat year was this house built.
Need to know if I can do recessed light from my soffit with just having one outdoor light outside currently from my porch light
Yes! You can run the wires from that existing porch light to your new lights. When you turn on the switch, it will control all the new lighting as well. 👍🏽
Nice install. Do we have to use lights rated for wet locations?
I would make sure they are wet rated!
Do you have any tips on how to do a soffit eave install on a home with no attic? I was thinking 3 inch lights and installing next to studs to be able to access wire from either side! Any advice would be appreciated!
Yes, that is what I would recommend!
we have 6" outdoor incandescent can lights in our soffits already . house is 16 years old. do they have colored lights to replace the bulbs?
lumarysmart.com/collections/all/products/lumary-smart-recessed-lighting-fixtures-6inch-4pcs?ref=pkNF5Ahu
Yes they do! As long as they are 120v & they screw in like a standard bulb. They make retrofits! Use code ‘SPARKYIZZY’ for a 10% off coupon! 🤝🏽
Forgot to ask, the vents on the soffit seem really thin. Any tips when drilling the holes to avoid breaking off any of the small vent ribs on the soffit?
Not really! They may break but maybe put painters tape on all the ribs to hold them in place while you drill?
What would it cost me to have them installed on my house
If you had to choose would you choose Lumary or Govee. I'm currently finishing up a new house and want full smart lighting. Struggling with making a choice.
I would go with Lumary if I had to pick. I don’t like that the Govee wiring is exposed. Between the 2, Govee is more responsive because they are all interconnected. The Lumary could be laggy if you have weak Wi-Fi but it’s worth the minor glitches to be able to customize the colors instead of 1 color soffit recessed lights.
If you decide to go with Lumary, you are more than welcome to use my discount code to lower the pricing 🤝🏽
How many lights (max) can I wire in series off 1 switch, like you did in this video?
Tuff to say, you would have to add up the amperage per fixture. Do a current reading with the circuit you are trying to add the lights to. Add the lights amperage & don’t exceed 80% of the circuit rating. It also depends if it’s a 15 amp or 20 amp circuit.
Had some installed a few years back and they looked great. Issues Im having is the bugs at night. Can anyone recommend ones that won't attract bugs? Would appreciate the help .
Thanks in advance .
Any form of light will attract bugs. Your best bet is to spray around the lights with pesticides.
I noticed these lights are for Indoors only. These lights do not have a Wet or Damp rating to be used in such areas inside the home, let alone outside.
How did you decide to use these outdoors without an Exterior or Wet/Damp, etc rating? We've were looking for the same type of lights, but in black and also came across these. We passed on them due to not having the aforementioned ratings. This was a safety concern we had due to rain and humidity in Texas area.
Looking forward to your insight for your decision. Much appreciated
I think the main concern would be with the ballast box. As long as you can get that off the soffit and onto a wall, there should be no moisture getting inside. Otherwise the LED housing are just plastic boxes glued together so water ingress isn't really an issue. Even if it does get in the LED housing, it's likely just 12v DC and won't do much damage to anything other than the light itself.
I want to install these lights on my home but I'm not sure how many I should install and how far apart they should be placed. How far apart do you recommend?
In general, If the lights are 4 inches in diameter, a space of 4 feet is left between them. If they're 6 inches, they install 6 feet apart on center. But it all comes down to preference.
Does your house number near the front window also light up? What’s that called or where did you order that?
amzn.to/3MIotXY
10/10, recommend it! I love how you can see the address # from the street!
It works well for Amazon delivery drivers that deliver early in the morning or when people visit at night.
I like how you can change colors on all of the LED lights separately... I heard that color LED lights don't really give a WHITE light... Is that true? I love to get really bright white light when I work outside but change the color to pink for Valentine's day and red/green for Christmas or so...
I just saw that those LED lights are WiFi lights, each one separate controllable via app, that's how you get different color per LED light... Sweet!
That can be true depending on what kind of LEDS are used. These give off a very white light. When I’m working outside I switch them from yellowish to pure white & they look bright!
Isn’t there more joices in between the bigger gaps of lights? To run the wire
Yes but since it’s in the attic, it’s free air above them 👍🏽
Curious why 6” vs 4” for accent lighting?
6” is better to put a drill up there because it’s wider but it’s personal preference.
Do you have to have a smart home to have those and a certain type of light switch to operate those from your phone ?
You can have a normal switch. All you need is good Wi-Fi & the Lumary app for this setup! Check out my other video on how to use the Lumary App! 💪🏽
@@sparky_izzy ok thanks budd. Also did you run new romex from the switch to the light above the door ?
Nope! I left the existing romex from the switch to the light above the door! From that light I fed all the new lights using the same size romex! 👍🏽
@@sparky_izzy ok gotcha, another question , my light above my door is a recessed light and the the 2 outdoor lights by the garage are all on one switch, would I just tie in the new romex with those wires to power the recessed lights i plan on installing ? Hope that makes sense
I Replaced My existing outside lights with the Ultra thin 6". Wondering if you had this issue. I set them to blue and turned them on before I went to bed woke up and they were off. Made sure I didn't enable any schedules and the same thing the next night. I'm going to try half-brightness and see what happens. Let me know if you heard of this Thanks
Is there an external switch that controls the lights?
Yes, @@sparky_izzy
I had some Home Depot recessed lights installed by the home contractor and just replaced with the Lumary Recessed. Uts strange I have one on a different switch and did the same thing. somewhere between 4-8 hours it shut off
It sounds to me like there might be a timer or photocell that is shutting of the power. The next step would be to test voltage at the light when the lights turn off. That will determine if it’s a fixture issue or power issue.
Very good I will do that, Much appreciated @@sparky_izzy
How long did this take you?
A couple of hours, took longer to record 😅
How did you get the lights to get a signal because I installed it in my house and only 4 of 14 connect to the app
If you’re having trouble connecting, you’re probably have a Wi-Fi issue. You can try to connect them with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Add a Wi-Fi extender near those lights will help with the signal. Just keep playing around with them until all of them connect. The first time is the hardest but once they are connected, it will improve.
Did you run the wire down to an existing light switch? Or did you have to install a new light switch to control these lights? Or are they all controllable from the app?
So I had 1 existing light above the front door already. There was a wire going from that light down to a switch. I converted that existing light to 6” recessed light & ran wire from there to all the new fixtures. I was able to use the same switch to control all the new fixtures. These fixtures can be turned on & off from the app but it is recommended by the company Lumary, to have them on a switch. I hope that helps!
Great work! Are you in Texas?
Yup!
@@sparky_izzy ha nice! Your development looked exactly like the one I'm in. It's a Texas thing lol
How does it do with your WiFi? Does it slow your speeds?
I haven’t seen a difference
@@sparky_izzy I’m having a hard time connecting this led smart ceiling lamp and I’m using 2.4 GHz and still doesn’t connect. I’m fearing this will happen with this lights too
I would email Lumary for assistance. There are a couple of ways you can try & connect the lights. How far is your lamp from the router?
That looks like a Texas house if I had to guess.
Hi, I don't see a link for light switch, can you send it? Thanks
If you are using these lights specifically, you can’t dim them with the switch so here’s the Smart Switch (non dimming) + the smart hub to use the app
amzn.to/3mW3M26
Can you use a standard flip light switch? Tia
Yes
What is the model number of the lights that you installed?

Don’t need own switch
those are truss tails or soffit framing not ceiling anything outside there is no ceiling
talk about no insulation in the attic.
these are not outdoor rated....do this at your own risk
