It’s the global copper costs. The mfg realized people will still pay the price especially in small lengths. When you get into professional sizes 250-ft rolls, price is closer to “normal” vs 25-ft. TBH the old price is $8/25-ft was too cheap.
have existing lights on the garage door columns. I connect to that little curcuit and continue from there. How many lights can I connect to that circuit?
Bet the neighbors love ya. 🙄 They install an LED streetlight in front of my house and it's just about at the end of it's obnoxious unnatural life span.
Our street has no lights so any house that provides light is a huge help to light up the neighborhood. I wished they installed some pole lights along our road.
I get that. We just are living in different lighting situations. Didn't mean to offend you or anything. I just can't stand the street light in front of our house since they had a request to install an LED bulb. We and all neighbors have 2 - 3 LEDs on our garages and porches so with the older style street light bulb that was more than enough to light us up more than needed. I enjoy watching the night stars, satellites, or whatever else may be in the skies at night but since they installed the LED street light it gives off so much light pollution that you can barely see a star or 2 on a clear night and it casts so much white light that even with the heavy wooden blinds in our house it still shines into the bedrooms, etc and gets annoying. The neighbors in the rest of the subdivision do not have the LED headache. The neighbor that requested the LED complained about their safety even though our end of the street was moré than well lit with all the LED porch and garage lights and the old street light. I suggested they buy a firearm and get proper training if they were that concerned over their safety. (Note: we live in an extremely low crime area with a high percentage of firearm owners. Imagine that? High gun ownership - low low low crime rate!)
Amazing video Binh. I actually ordered the same exact light and was looking for some tips on spacing - and came across your video. I have the exact same garage setup. Would you recommend 2 downlights over small door and 3 over big door…4 feet apart? Also your 4ft light should have a output of 750 Lumens correct? Not 1100 Lumens…
I spaced them 3ft apart and they were too bright. I think these were 9W and about 900-1,000 lumens. I’m using them dimmed to 10% using a Lutron line dimmer and it’s plenty bright. When I’m working on cars in driveway the 100% is perfect.
Stumbled upon this video since I'm doing my own research for this exact job at home, have a very good idea to start off as I'm very comfortable with Electrical work of all sorts, however the tips are invaluable price of romex at Walmart, and a real world sample of how many lights is enough and how many is too much. Earned a new sub bro, thanks for this video full of insight.
Thanks. The romex actually caught up at Walmart. It's like $21/25ft now. Which is still cheaper than HD or Lowe's. If you find armor flex 14/2 for cheaper, that might be a better value.
The good: great easy to understand video and well put together. The bad: if you honestly didn’t know that was gonna be over kill I am confused at how you explained it and did such a good video.
Didn’t think 900lumens per would be this bright. But neighborhood is pitch dark so this was huge impact. I’m on 10% dimmer now for nighttime use. Only at 100% when I’m working on car in driveway.
Great watch, this on my to do list, will have to rewatch this vid. And that’s hilarious, figuring out you over did it once your done! Looks great tho, but I’m glad I watch this cause now I know to do half the amount of lights.
Yes...I definitely over did it. Since these are 9W (about 1,100 lumens) each I thought I needed this many. The bright side is I have plenty of light to work on cars in driveway. I had to dim these to 10% using a Lutron smart dimmer for normal nightlight though.
@@TunerwithKids Dimming sounds good, however, I do not have any more outlet space available anymore, already running on a double switch in one outlet space... lol
Great Vid. Now I know to power all the lights and hang them up w magnets or gorilla tape temporarily and at a night use a ladder to move them around to my liking. Once I get them to where I want I can drill holes. This was great to see.
If I did this here neighbors would be bitching about "light pollution" despite not being able to see a damn star anyway because Seattle/Tacoma light drowns out most everything in the sky. They already complained about my single bulb yard light on a 4' post.

I have issues with my last color light. It shows as sig-mesh and never installs. I also didn’t install a kasa switch. Totally on the app on my phone and still doesn’t install. Any ideas? Tech support hasnt been helpful. I tried auto/easy, ap/wifi and Bluetooth modes to no avail.
I feel like I could do this myself, and didn’t want to pay 1k-2k for install. I’m just worried about hooking up power to them? Do you just run the single wire Romex across all the lights and then cut it in half and tie them together to the light?
Cut each section of Romex. Strip the wire back and slide into quick connects. At Each light will have three ends into a connector, two romex and the LED driver.
Did you have the wire from the switch to the junction box and then run a separate wire from the junction box to each light? Didn’t really touch on that. Like I understand how you got power to the first light on but what about subsequent lights?
Its a good video just needed more information and show how you struggled with running the power wire instead of only saying it. Its supposed to be a diy vid. and that defeats it since there were major steps you did not include. Like how you ran the wires from start to finish.
The struggle is crawling thru attic and pushing it between the lights. Hard to show that. I also have plenty of other videos on running wiring , circuits and panels. Check those out.
way too many lights dude :-)... I look at the same thing at my house, want to put in some LED lights... Some have to be switched on/off via light switch from the inside (replacing the ugly lights that were installed at the house to the left and right of the garage)... But I need another line going from the inside to be able to have Christmas light outlets and power for new security cameras... So a lot of Romex being installed there... Yours looks good, would be just too many for me :-)
Hello, just found your video and had a question since you have had them for awhile. Do you have an issue with bugs and spiders because of the lights. The ones i have attract bugs and when there are bugs, there are spiders. I need to switch them out and I'm trying to find ones that won't attract flying bugs. Thanks
Still running strong. Have them dimmed to 10% from dusk to dawn on my Lutron Caseta dimmer system. I also have some inside the house over bathroom shower and it’s working great. My rear patio, I tried another brand and those are working well too.
Yea went over board. But for winter and night time driveway work, it’s a lifesaver. I run these at 10% dimmed all the time via a Lutron Caseta dimmer on a home automation schedule so it is equivalent of using 2 at 100% all night.
I would love to see a comparison of 5k vs 4k at night. Would it be hard for you to change it all to 5k? Great job by the way. I'm looking to get this done at my house.
I daisy chained from the homerun to each light. I think it’s 4 going right and rest going left. The wago type push connectors have four holes so the LED driver at the split has all four holes used. Others use 3 of the holes (power in, LED driver, power out to next light)

Yea. Could have gotten by with 1/3 as many lights. I have them at 10% on a Lutron line voltage dimmer. But it’s good to have option of 100% when I have to do car stuff in driveway.
No video. They were already on the house. It’s just the Lorex NVR system but it’s old tech now. There’s better options with better remote access and cloud now.
Yea easy for me for wiring, probably hard for most. The side where windows were (not done on camera) was a pain to fish wiring. I should have added a 120V weather proof outlet but planning to do it soon for holidays lights.
Yea. I was scoping out parts. Need a $8 plastic weather proof box, $4 weather proof cover and $4 WR duplex outlet and some conduit or flex. I plan on pulling a sub panel near this side of the house/garage soon for more outlets and redoing some of my circuits to better distribute power. I plan to feed this outlet off a GFCI I’m installing on inside close by so should be a simple adder once I’m in the attic space.
Great video. Just a heads up, always make up the ground wire first, then neutral, and lastly hot. That’s the safest way to do it.
If the power is off there is no safety concerns
Brings me back to the days when we thought increased prices were inflation and would come back down. $3/m ($6/ft) for 14/2 in my country.

Nice video. Question: how many lights can you pigtail off of one end-run … presuming 15amp circuit
These are 9W each, so a 15A circuit can theoretically support 1,800W if there’s no voltage drop due to distance.
