@@fluffywarhampster it certainly did for me! It’s the only multi-card flexible-point setup from a major bank that’s really viable. Despite the Amex gold not having foreign transaction fees its multipliers and credits are too US focused for it to make any sense over the SavorOne/Savor.
@@AdamBA380 amex acceptance is also far more questionable abroad than in the us. I have a gold card and I doubt when I got to Japan later they year it will get any real use
I had the Amex gold and just switched to the savor one. Major reason for me was the ability to transfer the cash back from savor one to my venture x and a no annual fee. I like things being as simple as possible and the savor one does that for me. I don’t have to worry about using 20$ of credit every month that I don’t naturally use with the Amex gold. And I don’t have to worry about transferring points out. Everything is in one system and I can use accordingly.
I think for the average person the savor one is best just because you really can’t go wrong with it at no annual fee, plus you get some sweet perks like an Uber one membership. Pair this with the venture x and it’s a pretty good combo
Great comparison video here Chase! The Savor One Card could definitely be the way to go for people who still want exposure to those Dining & Grocery Stores but don't want to pay an annual fee or can't get full value out of the Credits on the AMEX Gold.
Capital One is no longer a subprime company. They put out high end cards. My SavorOne Rewards card is better than my Chase Freedom Unlimited card. Amazing.
Great video Chase! It’s gonna be the Savor One for me! Sometimes simplicity > complexity! Although I do think that the 4x dining is crazy busted, I enjoy the no AF on the Savor One and the idea of not looking to use all of the credits the AMEX Gold offers to justify its AF. I definitely think that the Savor One is one of the best no AF cards out there on the market!
I wish credit card influencer would differentiate walmart from walmart neighborhood markets. Walmart super center don’t count for groceries but walmart neighborhood markets does count and that’s a big oversight every credit card channel always fails to mention.
I’d imagine for most Americans the Capital One Savor One is the better choice, but we live in a city with no car…so having the credits from Amex works well for us. Plus we spend a *lot* on groceries and $25000 is a huge cap. We still don’t hit it. Both are great cards but for the unusual case we’re in, the Gold Card is the best.
Thank you for sharing! 🙌🏽 That makes sense for your situation. Of course you don't have a car. You're the Philly Snow Guy! You can't enjoy the snow from the inside of a warm, metal container! ❄️ 👏🏽
Capital One has really up their game in terms of offering rewards cards. I'm of the opinion it's smart to have both the SavorOne Rewards card and the American Express in your wallet.
Savor got my vote because I'm only a little over a year into the CC game and am not adding annual fee cards yet. Capital One gave me a very pleasant surprise by approving me for a $10k limit.
ooo lets goooo! Congrats on that $10k limit. With all that credit, dinner is on you! You made a great choice because the Savor One is perfect for a no annual fee setup.
It's rare if amex does 1 to 1 conversion. I have both cards and tbh, the value comes from the savor card. Even if the gold had a zero annual fee, the fact that it's rare to get 1.1 (unless you're traveling out of the country) the savor card still comes out ahead imo
I just spoke with the Rewards department at Capital One; the 10% Uber cash back and the Uber One statement credit is US only. When you’re outside the US Uber One is not active and the 10% cash back is hit or miss.
Even though I got a $500 low limit, I applied for the savor one. I shop mostly at Walmart supercenters and over there I will use the blue business plus since its 2x points up to the spending limit of $50,000 a calendar year. For dining, I can use my American express green card, or the savor one or the chase freedom unlimited. Regardless of what card I use, it's 3X. For groceries, I can use either the no fee everyday, the blue cash every day or the savor one. Depending on if I want points or cash back. This is the reason why I never upgraded from green to gold.
I dropped the Gold Card in my AMEX trifecta. I picked up the Savor One then got the Venture X for a year. Once I received the sign up bonus I downgraded to Venture One so I can access the transfer partners of Capital One. Amex and Capital One share the same transfer partners I value so it was a easy choice for me to switch from the Gold to the Savor One
Capital One will always be known as a sub-prime lender. Customer service does not compare to Amex at all too, but I'm happy there are options for those that wish to avoid AFs.
I had fraudulent charges on my Capital One Venture card. After waiting over an hour for customer service (during COVID early 2020) I just gave up and waited for the "system" to work. I haven't had one single issue with American Express and the BCP. American Express's online chat is fantastic as well!
@@reubenmorris487 Man same experience with mine. I had a fraudulent charge with capital one quicksilver for over $1.4k during 2020. I was on the phone for 3 hours explaining to them that I am home and the charges are on the opposite coast. Of course the customer support in India can't understand that because they don't know how far it is. 2 years forward I had a fraudulent charge with amex worth $4k in a betting website and CS handled it within 15 minutes.
Yes, I have both but admit I’m drawn to the Gold Card for its snob appeal. Presenting a Capital One Card just doesn’t have the same impression as an AMEX gold
The break even for both cards in their max multiplier category is $18750 (or an average spend of $1562.59 per month). Afterwhich, the AMEX Gold earns more than the Savor One, till a yearly spend $27083.34 (or and average spend of $2256.95 a month) afterwhich the Savor One earns more due to the $25k cap on the AMEX Gold. Thus, the Savior One earns more for those with yearly spend under $18750 or above $27083.34, AMEX earns more for the sweet spot between. This obviously only accounts for points earnings through multipliers that assume both are worth 1¢ per point. It also doesn't account for sign up bonuses.
It’s not ironic, it’s math. Love the breakdown. Seems like AmEx Gold is the way to go if those dining and Uber credits fit into your lifestyle already or if you spend a ton each year.
Definitely if you have a family and travel, the Amex Gold is the better choice. Without traveling, the Capital One SavorOne card is the better choice. College students attending their local state university, single working adults without kids, and people who don't leave their state would benefit the most.
Great video Chase 👏🏾 I agree with your overall assessment, in general the Amex Gold card is a better option if you’re willing to use the credits and that the points are generally worth more. I think the Savor card is targeted towards people who just want to “swipe and go”, and not have to put a ton of effort into their spending strategy. I love to gamify my spending, (I’m a nerd) so finding ways to tweak my spending to get addition value is rewarding.
The only benefit which might make me go Amex gold vs. Savor/Venture cards is that with Amex you can use your points and book DIRECTLY with an airline or hotel and not limited to their company portal. Capital One requires you to book thru their company to gain maximum usage of points. I like to book directly with an airline so if anything does wrong the airline can fix the problem on the spot. Otherwise, you're left trying to call the third party customer service to get them to fix and, really, when has that worked?
I’m debating on getting the Citi premier (Strata now) and the custom cash, but perhaps getting the Savor One might be the better way to go to pair up with my Venture X? Thoughts?
Would you consider getting all of those cards too? I understand if you want to just stick to one ecosystem but if you can break even on the two annual fee cards (Strata & Venture X) then it might be beneficial to partake in both Citi and Capital One systems.
If you already spend money at those places that are part of the Amex Gold credits, then the Gold is the better option. If you have to force yourself to remember to use the credits every month, then the SavorOne is the better choice. The Amex Gold doesn’t give cash back either so you have to do more work to use the rewards. So if you want a simple card no annual fee to work against the SavorOne makes a lot more sense. Plus if you really want to do all the work against an annual fee and have real travel benefits, you’d be better off getting the SavorOne and Venture X over just the Amex Gold.
My guy. You mentioned uber for the gold card but savor has an amazing offer for uber until November 2024. Uber one statement credit making it free until the promotions over and 10% cash back until then too. So good
Very true. That promo with Uber on the Savor one is super helpful. And honestly if you have both cards the Uber benefits / credits complement each other so nicely.
Personally, I think the Amex Gold and Venture X may even be a better combo than the Savor One and Venture X. However, if you're only looking for cash-back rewards rather than transferrable currencies, then the Savor One is the better choice here. I just love transferrable currencies, so I'll take the Gold card all day 😆 Great video Chase!
@@babybabibaby That’s correct! If you like Cap1 a lot and want to use points for travel then transferring from the Savor One to the Venture X could be really valuable. Or you can use Amex’s partners with the Gold card and Cap1’s partners with the Venture X as I think I’d prefer.
@@SpencerJohnsonOfficial use the venture X credit and transfer out to a common amex transfer partner? Do they have any in common? If I understood you correctly; this is quite interesting.
Honestly I think SavorOne + VX is an awesome points back combination, but the issue is C1 miles are... just not as good as UR or MR points. C1 is outclassed in transfer partners (there are zero US domestic airline partners), and the hotel partners are painfully lacking too. Im running SavorOne + VX as my main catch all right now, but I am thinking of getting a car soon at which point I'd look at getting an Amex Blue Cash, then eventually Gold, etc.
I think a better comparison would be the AMEX Gold and the Capital One Savor, the later has a $95 annual fee and offers 4% on all the categories except the groceries that stays at 3%…
I don't know 100%. However I would lean towards it does NOT trigger the extra reward multiplier. You can test this out by charging something small at the store and seeing how Capital One reports it. Then you can find out if it earns the bonus points or not.
@Chase Yokoyama I don't have the card. Otherwise, I would try that method. I'm not going to even waste a credit inquiry or apply if it doesn't work there. Already have the Venture X.
A good question to ask is: Why doesn't American Express offer a no foreign transaction fee groceries card? I got SavorOne before I had any American Express card.
I have a lot of cards and like both of them but I feel the Amex has better customer service and purchase protection. I use the Uber credit and Doordash most the time and pick up food on my way home so its easy to use the credits for me. Both are great though.
Using those food credits for pickup is the best way to use them. It's smart that you make it convenient for yourself too by picking it up on your way home.
@@ChaseYokoyama Yep. It now appears in my transactions here in Latin America. You’re right, it is still a great no annual fee, no foreign transaction fee card.
LoL if you travel the Capital One saber one still gives you discounts on groceries and dining International and there is no fee when I was in the Philippines a lot of the places said no American Express
challenge though is that I think the Capital One transfer partners suck. So even if it can be a better point earner it is kind of useless if you can't do anything of quality with the points.
Im curious what you are looking for in a transfer partner? Cap1 has Virgin (Delta), British Airways (AA), Avianca (United) and Flying Blue (Air France / KLM) . Are you just looking for a major hotel?
@@LukesPointsandMiles Guess I was not aware of the affiliations of airlines listed to other airlines. I knew British Airways but also in going to their website before wasn't able to see flights from AA domestically there (maybe I was doing it wrong).
Amex gold give you $100 food credit for booking 2 nights and free room upgrades. Savor one is good but capital one doesn’t have the best choice of partners. For Amex gold, some grocery store don’t take Amex card!
Someone may have touched on this in the 172 comments prior to mine but just wanted to let you know that the 3% cash back at supermarkets with the Capitol One Savor One card does NOT include Walmart or Target. Just an FYI.
I feel like a better title would have been "When does the Savor One beat Amex Gold". Because there are some use cases where that is true, but not in others. The title makes it sound like it's a sure thing. Yes, the video makes it clear that the better card is situation-dependent, but the title reeks of clickbait.
For someone, like me, who is team cashback and doesn’t want to pay an annual fee, I agree, but for someone that’s more into travel and doesn’t mind paying annual fees, maybe not.
As someone with both Gold and SavorOne, Gold all day. I was able to get the 90k Gold signup bonus plus the SavorOne statement credit. I do live in an area to use the Gold credits each month. I find using the cash back system within Capital One is a pain if you are not moving the rewards to the Venture. I have the Quicksilver as well and that rewards is even worse since they don't go into a single bucket. Maybe it is just me. Which is why Capital One cards are in the sock drawer and Amex is in my pocket.
I heard that you can move SavorOne rewards to Venture X rewards over the same account effectively combining the multipliers of both cards and booking travel with the combined points But, I called C1 and they said such a transfer is normally not possible. Does anybody know what the actual answer is?
I just got the SavorOne recently and was able to move its rewards over with no problem. However, I had to use the webpage to do that as it seemed to be missing in the Capital One app options.
Like my AmEx gold, but noticed that the dining/restaurant category is not broad enough. I do have a significant spend on non-chain local cafes, bakeries, etc., which can be sit-in restaurants, but do not get 4X back. To make matters worse it is either 4X or 1X. I tend to use my Hyatt Visa or Venture X when in doubt at such establishments. Don't have Savor One. Hoping to get it one day, and hope it has a broader definition of dining.
One other nuance is that AmEx cards are not as widely accepted globally. Even some local small non-chain restaurants do not accept it. A lot of my dining expense is during international travel.
Had the quicksilver card For 11 months it was ok But used capital one upgrade Portal and got the savor one card Enjoying the 3% back on Groceries and gas
im sorry to hear that. give it a few weeks and try the pre approval tool again. did you apply for the card or use the pre approval tool to find that out? I also don't like how C1 is sensitive to past inquiries like that
Sure it beats it on rates but where are you going to transfer those points. Capital One doesn’t have an domestic airlines. If you’re going to transfer international then you’ed probabaly get the same transfer rates so at that point better care rates win
You should have compared the Capitol One "Savor" & not the "Savor One" to the American Express Gold. That way your are comparing 2 annual fee credit cards who have identical cash back/rewards categories.
yes that would have been a more fair comparison. although from what i've seen the savor one seems to be more popular as a food credit card alternative. also its cool to see how a no annual fee card could still compete with a $250 card
For team cash back, an all-encompassing setup would be Amex BCP and C1 SavorOne, plus a 2% card. With those 2 cards, all bases are covered, between groceries, dining, streaming, entertainment, gas, and transit. Pretty much all your typical everyday expenses. And BCP only has a $95 af. (Waived in 1st year).
If you have "enough" cash just sitting around, you can open up an Amex high yield savings account, and offset the annual fee with the interest accrued.
@@reubenmorris487 would have to see if it makes sense tax wise though. Also opportunity cost of parking several grand or more rather than investing it for higher returns.
The biggest difference: American Express can and will take your points without warning. Capital One won't do that because the points are earned on daily spend. Remember: American Express has given you NOTHING Until You use The points.

@@ChaseYokoyama I have the Green card, the Chase Freedom Unlimited for a base of 3x at dining. Also, one is an Amex in the Green card, Freedom Unlimited is a Visa and the Savor One is a Mastercard. Bottom line, I have options for dining as far as card network. Overseas though, I would have to swap out the Freedom Unlimited and sub in for the Chase Amazon Prime card as far as a Visa. The Savor One and the Amex Green would stay for a base rate of 2x to 3x on dining points. Supermarkets, I can use the no fee EveryDay, the Blue Cash Everyday and the Savor One, so I would get a base rate of 2x on everyday on MR points to 3x Cash Back on the BCE or points on the Savor One as a result, I have no need for the Gold card once again. perfect! thank you so much for letting us know! 🤙🏽
Please tell us which country
Does the Capital One Savor work at neighborhood Walmart grocery stores?
I don't know 100%. However I would lean towards it does NOT trigger the extra reward multiplier. You can test this out by charging something small at the store and seeing how Capital One reports it. Then you can find out if it earns the bonus points or not.
@Chase Yokoyama I don't have the card. Otherwise, I would try that method. I'm not going to even waste a credit inquiry or apply if it doesn't work there. Already have the Venture X.
1% at Walmart but
3% back foodlion Kroger
Publix lidal Aldi stores
I have Verizon Visa Signature for groceries, dining and gas very underrated card
true. it has solid multipliers and those verizon dollars can come in handy for your cellphone bill 📱
A good question to ask is:
Why doesn't American Express offer a no foreign transaction fee groceries card?
I got SavorOne before I had any American Express card.
Capital One and their no foreign transaction fees are VERY clutch 🔥
When applying for the capital one savor card, which credit bureau do they pull from?
Capital One tends to check / use all 3 credit bureaus. They do not heavily use one over the others
Chase trifecta vs capital one savor one & venture x?
now that would be an interesting comparison 👀
I’m very happy with my Quicksilver & Venture Card combo.
👏🏼 Thank you for sharing! It really is a viable combo for sure
AmEx Gold is $10 eAF unless you don’t eat food…
hahahah 😆
The Chase CFU or CFF with the grocery bonus that's about to disappear seems pretty good to me. At least for bonus year.
Yuh that bonus is fantastic 👌🏽 if only it weren't limited 😮💨
Capital One announced yesterday that the 10% Uber cash back is not available outside the US.
damn really? 😢 still a good no annual fee option tho.
@@ChaseYokoyama Yep. It now appears in my transactions here in Latin America. You’re right, it is still a great no annual fee, no foreign transaction fee card.
LoL if you travel the Capital One saber one still gives you discounts on groceries and dining International and there is no fee when I was in the Philippines a lot of the places said no American Express
yup all great points
challenge though is that I think the Capital One transfer partners suck.
Transfer partners are a subjective topic. But i think its better to have Capital Ones transfer partners than nothing.
And a lot of times if you will get better redemptions by booking United flights on a Star Alliance partner like Avianca or Air Canada
Amex Gold doesn't give 4x on bars or breweries. And it has nothing to do with the merchant code.
Just an FYI.
yes this is a very good thing to note. ✅
AMEX Gold. Thanks for the info + video!
That's my preferred card choice as well! 👏🏽 Thank you for watching as always Jimmy 🤙🏽
Wait you don’t get 3x at Costco with the savor one?
unfortunately the Savor One is a Mastercard and Costco only accepts Visa at this time.
I feel like a better title would have been "When does the Savor One beat Amex Gold". Because there are some use cases where that is true, but not in others. The title makes it sound like it's a sure thing. Yes, the video makes it clear that the better card is situation-dependent, but the title reeks of clickbait.
Fair point 🙏🏽 Thank you for that feedback.
Your title is fine - better clickbait 😂
For someone, like me, who is team cashback and doesn’t want to pay an annual fee, I agree, but for someone that’s more into travel and doesn’t mind paying annual fees, maybe not.
True. Although I will say most people have a separate card for travel besides the Amex gold.
@@ChaseYokoyama True, but the Amex is pretty popular, due to its customer service and sense of prestige.
@@Tristin471 oh ya. and their travel partners as well
On my SavorOne: I went to simple as Dunkin Donuts? Earned 3% back
yup thats fire. Most fast food places trigger the restaurant category
Thank you for sharing your experience, Steven! 🙏🏽 It's super helpful to hear your personal anecdotes. I'm jealous u got the 90k offer 🔥
I heard that you can move SavorOne rewards to Venture X rewards over the same account effectively combining the multipliers of both cards and booking travel with the combined points
But, I called C1 and they said such a transfer is normally not possible.
Does anybody know what the actual answer is?
I just got the SavorOne recently and was able to move its rewards over with no problem. However, I had to use the webpage to do that as it seemed to be missing in the Capital One app options.
Does anyone know if the Uber/Uber Eats credit combine if you have both the Platinum and Gold cards for the trifecta?
Yes, the Uber credit combines from the Gold and Platinum 👍🏽
@@ChaseYokoyama Thank you, sir.
Thats amazing self awareness on your part tho 👏🏽 imagine if you never caught on. Would've been getting only 1x the whole time 😳
One other nuance is that AmEx cards are not as widely accepted globally. Even some local small non-chain restaurants do not accept it. A lot of my dining expense is during international travel.
Came for the comparison, stayed for the smoothie rant
lmao 😂 strawberries wild all the way 🏆
Gracias por la info!
de nada! 🙌🏽
So, just forget about the Savor with 4% cashback on the same categories with a $95/AF ?
yes that is an option! I wanted to focus on the no annual fee version to show you can get almost the same reward multipliers for $250 cheaper 👍🏼
Can you compare Quicksilver vs SavorOne please?
I'll take a look at it!
Had the quicksilver card
For 11 months it was ok
But used capital one upgrade
Portal and got the savor one card
Enjoying the 3% back on
Groceries and gas
Those thick peanut butter smoothies are good.
100%. Thicker smoothes are better. Or else it would be like Peanut Butter piss
@@ChaseYokoyama oh thank you for the imagery.
captal one denied me cause of to many inquires total bs
im sorry to hear that. give it a few weeks and try the pre approval tool again. did you apply for the card or use the pre approval tool to find that out? I also don't like how C1 is sensitive to past inquiries like that
ya US Bank Barclays capital one FNBO these issures are very inquiry senstive@@ChaseYokoyama
Sure it beats it on rates but where are you going to transfer those points. Capital One doesn’t have an domestic airlines. If you’re going to transfer international then you’ed probabaly get the same transfer rates so at that point better care rates win
You are right. For certain people their transfer partners may not be ideal when compared to Amex's transfer partners.
The Amex sounds like a pain in the ass. I don't see myself using those credits naturally, and I'm not tracking $20 a month of credits.
Sounds like the Savor one really would be the better fit for you then 👍🏽
@@ChaseYokoyama Yeah, think so! With the Amex, I can definitely see myself getting lazy and not squeezing out the value of all of the credits.
Thanks
That'll earn you cash back like crazy 🤑
If you have "enough" cash just sitting around, you can open up an Amex high yield savings account, and offset the annual fee with the interest accrued.
@@reubenmorris487 would have to see if it makes sense tax wise though. Also opportunity cost of parking several grand or more rather than investing it for higher returns.
Do Amex blue cash everyday verse Savior one
I'll look into it! Thank you Greg 👌🏽
Yes the Savior do earn 3% world wide. I also think Amex will give you a less favorable exchange rate than Visa and Master will do.
Thanks for letting us know. The Savor One is valuable grocery card for sure
Do a combo of both cards👌🏾👍🏽
that could work too 🤔 in certain situations.
Have you been able to use 100% of your Uber and Dining credit? Do you consider it then a true value of "$240"?
I have used all of it. But valuing it at the full $240 is always a debate
I like your math
my math is gr9
Credits are a PITA idc what anyone says
theres definitely an argument for that
The biggest difference:
American Express can and will take your points without warning.
Capital One won't do that because the points are earned on daily spend.
Remember:
American Express has given you NOTHING
Until
You use
The points.
Just another friendly reminder to use your points 👏🏼
😂😂😂😂credit limit only $500
Cap1 do be like that 🙃
👍
🙏🏽
Even though I got a $500 low limit, I applied for the savor one. I shop mostly at Walmart supercenters and over there I will use the blue business plus since its 2x points up to the spending limit of $50,000 a calendar year. For dining, I can use my American express green card, or the savor one or the chase freedom unlimited. Regardless of what card I use, it's 3X. For groceries, I can use either the no fee everyday, the blue cash every day or the savor one. Depending on if I want points or cash back. This is the reason why I never upgraded from green to gold.
I like your reasoning 🧠 Your setup doesn't sound broken so I see why you don't change it., 👍🏼
@@ChaseYokoyama I have the Green card, the Chase Freedom Unlimited for a base of 3x at dining. I would only get the Gold card for an upgrade bonus if not eligible for the sign up bonus and in a year downgrade back to Green.
