It’s always a joy to see what the sound design looks like. I mean a mini race car riding inside an inflated balloon edited to make the whipping noise of a Hunter twirling their rope spear? Who thinks up stuff like this it’s awesome
that was a hex nut
Edit: Upon further observation, it does look like it could be a toy car. However, the sound is more indicative of a hex nut.
Shadiebinder had the best sound design
Not bungie. That sound has been used many times before bungie used it.
Sound design is great. You can run a bow string on a cymbal for an eerie string sound. Put cymbals on timpani and hit them while tuning the timpani to get a strange pitching reverb timbre. Mick Gordon resampled lawnmowers and chainsaws for DOOM: Eternal. Deadmau5 has used his own male genitalia hitting the toilet seat to create a snare (I think). Aphex Twin put his own face into his track using image resynthesis and if you analyze the track with a frequency analyzer, played back at a certain speed you can see his face.
@@SALEENS7GTR5 idk if Deadmau5 did exactly that, but he has 100% made claps (and likely snares) from slapping his own ass.
4:25 I love that whenever Dave does his thing the person next to him always just nods with the straightest face possible. Also the audio design stuff is always super interesting to me.
Fr love Dave😂🙌🏼
I fully believe the audio design ppl just let Dave do his mouth sounds for a while and then figure out how to recreate those sounds in some other way.
dave, my beloved
Dave is loving every second of his job and we love him for it.
I know right😂
bungie showing how they creatively record sounds gotta be one of my favourite genres
Like how they used a breast pump for lament
I enjoy it, it's how sound design is for most things doe
Kinda reminds me of how the Dragon Age series described their magic. You're not making fire or ice or whatever from thin air, you're pulling on individual strings of the veil between worlds to manipulate it into making magic. You pull on a string a certain way to create fire, or a different way to make ice, etc.
it's a great way to add depth to your fantasy/sci-fi universe! If your characters are just creating their magic from nothing, it's kinda cool, but finding ways to pick at it and really delve into how it happens, it brings in more character and more ways to tell the story.
That's also how magic typically works in D&D.
You aren't making the magic effects, you're just performing the correct recipe of gestures, sounds, and ingredients to make the "weave" reshape itself in a way that that magic effect happens.
I love seeing how their sound design team comes up with sounds.
Hunters : _Finally ! with this new powers and further mobility, we won't be a joke anym-_

I really liked this part about sound design. Tbh sound and music it one of the most importatnt things for me in Destiny 2 and it's interesting to see how they create those sounds for abillities.

Imo the throw and catch mechanic of the Hunter's melee needs to be added to the Sentinel Titan's shield toss ability. There's no reason it shouldn't and it gives the Captain America fantasy which everyone would love.

@@CrashB111 Tether was always on void.

I have a lot to say about Strand, specifically about Titan having looked at this and other Bungie sources, so to find and understand my opinion you will have a lot to read.
After having watched this, and having read what has been written and said in interviews I don't have a good feeling about what is coming with the Titan Strand Super. Of course, the make or break for this will be how it is in-game once Lightfall launches. But through what I mentioned, I believe that people's prior experience with similar Titan supers gives us a clear picture of how it will be. Specifically Stasis and Arc. Good in PVP and most likely a constant pick for Titans, but in PVE content it will be bad. With Bungie focusing on making content harder the issues already surrounding melee combat in PVE and how people don't dare take the risks it has will only get worse resulting in Titan Strand having a harder time fitting in compared to presently.
This is not to mention that compared to Warlock and Hunter Strand Supers, the Titan Strand Super seems to be suffering some creativity problems as well as not really living up to what it has been advertised as. With Titan Strand Super being advertised as something fresh that will allow Titans to survive more upfront and lay into the enemy, this is something that has been already done far more effectively with Arc and Stasis, Arc provides speed and quick burst damage, Stasis gives good DR and freezes the enemy entirely. Woven Mail which seems to be the main effect for the Titans seems to just be a worse version of Void Overshields, and the heavy ranged attack for Titan Strand Super seems limited with how it's aimed towards single targets or small clusters of enemies within a narrow straight line. They don't get frozen either just suspended above the ground, almost like a worse version of Titan Stasis Super heavy attack. Titan Strand Super is also advertised as "then giving you a range option, which is not something you generally do in these roaming Supers", this is straight wrong. In fact, the only roaming Supers WITHOUT some kind of ranged options either short or long range are Titan Arc Striker, Hunter Void Spectral Blades and Warlock Void Nova Warp.
Now, what about the creativity problems I mentioned? “Reinforce your core fantasy” this line Bungie said wasn't the best, but I would say it isn't worded right for them, "Reinforce our core fantasy" would be more accurate for their perspective. Previously Bungie mentioned how for them Titans are the punch/melee class, and both Stasis and Strand have now proven that for the players quite clearly. We, the players on the other hand don't agree with this idea of what Titans are, to us they are a frontline force able to take hits, keep pushing and have big guns. Solar and Void have clearly shown this to Bungie and ourselves as these two seem to be the most used subclasses for Titans and they don't force Titans to melee range to be useful. Now with Strand, we have previously seen they had the idea of a flamethrower for the Titans or maybe even a gun, but they didn't go that route, instead sticking with melee (claws don't change the fact it is just another punching super). This is now beginning to show the creative limitations of such a narrow limited idea of what a class identity is. Bungie might also be aware of this as it seems the super has gone through several changes with the name becoming something worse (in my opinion) and the spinning attack being removed/changed before we got a good look at it. The flamethrower might even have had some work done to it before they changed to claws, but we don't have much info on that possibility. Still, this does give me a bad feeling that there are more development issues around Titan Strand Super than we are aware of.
Lastly, the question we all want to ask is. What should it be for the Titan if not what it is now? In my opinion, with how Strand is meant for classes to weave their own weapons to their desires.
Short duration, ranged, high DR, slow-moving minigun super. This would make a good damage super and clearing super in PVE and in PVP it would be useful if used smartly, but others can avoid it instead of being chased and killed with the new claw Strand Super. Visually take the idea of the backpack storage from the concept art of the flamethrower, add in the Sweet Business, set up an ammo line between the two and just like that you have a minigun super for Titans. Basically for a short duration Sweet Business on Strand steroids.
Give us some more support/cc options too! Heavy attack mini gun (idk make it a grenade or a rocket) that throws down woven mail to allies and suspends enemies in the aoe.
A minigun that fires green strand, suspending minor and major enemies and wrapping them in more strand the more tiems they're hit. Finally when the super is over the threading explodes dealing damage. and it'd make the titan only able to walk, with increased DR. with the ability to grapple to change locations it shouldn't be a problem. and would have a pseudo 1000k voices feel, with maybe a bit of malfeasance too. jsut not punching, it shouldn't be that hard to think of things that aren't punching
This put into words what I have been thinking. So true
I dont play titan but the more i hear about them, the less enthusiastic i am to properly build my current one. I hope the supers for titan get reworked, the strand couldve been game changing for titan. My first impression for titan strand class, i thought of green lantern. They could've given the titan some sort of ability to make or use multiple styles of guns/weapons( a type of throwable melee, like a Tomahawk/Greataxe). Maybe they will suprise us with this current unpopular claw super for titan.
The sky is the limit as far as what they (the Titans) could make. Perhaps they weave a giant fist that comes slamming down from the sky directly above their targeted location. Maybe it stays a roaming super, but each attack manifests a phantom limb woven out of strand that hits the targeted location. Maybe its a long range melee super; where they weave a giant blade into being that they cleave down in front of them; so that the area from their point forward is hit by a massive line attack. Things like these would maintain the Bungie approved Titan fantasy, but escalated to the scale of what their new power could potentially allow.
The best Titan super you could come up with was a reskined arc/void super...
I love the creative sound design, just like with Stasis

The more I look at Strand the more I see it as a refined and superior version of hive magic and the further it is mentally enforced in my mind how badly the Witness cursed the hive from what they were meant to be
Well, Hive magic is after all just a method taught to them by the Worm Gods to call not on the darkness itself, but a sort of dumbed down weaker version of it.
@@impartialthrone2097 that’s what I’m thinking, and the worms keep the hive alive at a terrible cost. I ultimately respect Savathun for turning her back on the witness and removing her worm and finding an alternative way to be powerful and immortal.
In a way hive magic follows very similar logic to strand, but the hive are gate kept from strand as whole the way I see it. Assuming hive magic is an off brand shoot of Strand which imo it is.
@@MoonbornUwU well, Hive magic is a way to call on darkness in general, but I don't think it's related to Strand specifically. Bungie devs have explicitly said that we, the Guardians, are the first people to "discover" Strand. This would mean even the Witness wasn't aware of Strand. If Hive magic channels Strand in some lesser way, that would imply that the Worm Gods had access to it, otherwise how would they know how to teach the Hive to call on it?
Darkness has three elements like Light, but also tons of secondary powers like Taking, Nightmares, Deep sight, etc. I think Hive Magic calls on Darkness in a more general way not related to a specific element.

@@andrewtackett8351 I don’t give a shit if our super is good, I just want it to be COOL. Hunters and warlocks really lucked out this expansions with all their cool ability animations and their supers, and we just….punch more. That’s the crux and the core of our frustrations. I for one one not care a single bit of our last darkness subclass (and probably our last subclass period) was ANOTHER roaming super. Just make it cool, like a big ass energy minigun or a huge battle axe or guts sword.
@@woahquill1334that’s your problem. It’s not good, so who cares
Would be nice…
The supers are about summoning and threads, so of course titans got blade hands :/
Also, am I the only one who thinks the ranged attack should at least do damage?
Yes!! blades made of threads!!!

Man, sound designers are fucking magicians. Literally put a ball in a Ballon and made an amazing sound for a super.
That hunter Strand dart going between enemies gives me Scorpion harpoon vibes mixed with Yondu's arrow. So dope
Why couldn’t they make the void titan shield throw work like the hunter one does? A bit disappointing
Oh man i cannot wait to *Checks notes* Light attack and Heavy attack.

@@Ae7heriumyou understood the assignment 🫡
Man I so cant wait for another fist of bloody havoc. This is truely a game of all time.
We just need 1 more darkness subclass and then I’ll feel complete. As a guardian. Not of light or darkness but one who protects their home.
Absolutely! I truly think Osiris was right the entire time, the Darkness isn't inherently evil but the Light isn't benevolent. Both are forces to be welded, but what is done with said forces is up to the user.
Arguably, we as guardians are NOT the good guys. We've done horrible things both out of the sake of protecting our home, but also out of vengeance (Uldren I'm looking at you 👀). We've always justified it to ourselves that we were just, that we were simply doing what had to be done and doing what the Traveler would have wanted us to do. That's simply just not the case. We chose what we did with the Light, we also chose to use the Darkness. Neither good, nor bad.
Titan still FEELS like an after thought
Because sadly it is,reuse of kherpi horn for aspect, behemoth super but heavy needs to be charged by lights so on ,so forty

This technical part is just amazing in all of Destiny, the way it hears the shot, the supers, when you walk or run. Just amazing. Not only the music anymore. Everything is very satisfying on a craft and technological level.
I thought to my self a cool strand super idea for Titan would like the villain kai from kung fu panda 3 it would be super dope
I think we can all agree that this is a million times better than a Poison/Corruption subclass.
Agree, I laugh at people who thought we where getting that subclass. 🤣
Yea this is lowkey 10x cooler than poison 😂. Necrotic grips are gonna be interesting w strandlock tho
They are right about the color not about the type
Nah Strand is Meh gotta wait and see
I mean original we were supposed to get something like that in WQ but it got pushed back to LF
As a Warlock Main, I’m super happy to see Broodweaver become something interesting and exciting! When Bungie first started dropping trailers, it was very obvious from the focus on Hunter abilities that they were the most polished subclass compared to Warlock and Titans, and I am very glad that my initial thought of Needlestorm as “Wardcliff Coil, but green” has been proven wrong.
That being said, while Warlocks got much more flushed out, Titans got shafted. A tactical, support based subclass around weaving together barriers and reinforcing positions would have been very cool compared to the claws they got, which are just another reskin of Fist of Havoc, a Super that I don’t even see used, like, ever.
I think Bungie needs to expand their interpretation of what Titans are as a class and play into the “grizzled, experienced warrior” theme that’s always been there, but Bungie prefers to focus on hitting things instead either due to a lack of imagination or laziness.
I noticed we saw almost no titan game play next to the other 2 classes, maybe it didn't stand out enough to make the cut for this presentation.
I still think the Titan Super should have been them clapping their hands together to make a drill and then pulling on it like a slingshot to shoot into through enemies. If it hits a boss the drill will stay on boss doing damage.
I love how they show all these unique interactions the Warlocks and Hunters have with Strand, and then the Titans just kind of punch things.
My favorite part is when they explain how they make the audio
Congrats to the developers as far as I can tell you earned your pay... but that Titan Super is a bit of a letdown. We get access to the threads of reality, and the only thing Titans could think of was giant claws... really? It was time for Titans to have another burst dps super or at least an AOE/support super. I have to say I think Bungie knows it too, because why else would their strand trailer have a titan use code of the missile in it.
I'm 100% with you, but that was objectively the coolest part of any trailer to date and I, for one, cannot wait to ride a Code of the Luigi Missile Titan as my steed in to battle.
Titans are unga bunga crayon eaters, do you really think they could come up with anything better?
@@Killinshots Yes.
That hunter melee ability sounds like what Shield Throw should have been like... haha. :D
But that melee is really cool, so congrats Hunters!
Was waiting for some nuggets about how Titans work, but it's again JUST "they got light melee and heavy melee". Sadly enough.
"weaving it into.... Claws?" 😂😂😂
I really hate the fact that we have another shoulder charge as a melee ability, stasis was fun but still, it got nerfed pretty bad, the speed at least, I still think we could've had something like the warlocks, first person cool animation of idk, a hook claw? Maybe you can launch your claw IDK MAN NOT ANOTHER SHOULDER CHARGE
Tbh, I wish this or Shiver Strike was a shoulder charge, if I could take Peregrine Greaves I could at least have an option for a one hit ability kill like Hunters.
@@Crushanator1 indeed, but ima be honest I like it, at least the way it feels, but Yes it should sinergyze with that, but I'm want more melees like shield throw or hammers
Love seeing a green version of Fists of Havoc
Nah bruh thats a green glacial quake, the heavy attack suspends/freezes the enemy while the light attack is just a more powerful melee. They reusing stuff from beyond light already
The portion on the sound design was really, really cool!
Add to that all these cool details and the little bits of behind the scenes and it’s just amazing! I can’t wait to get to play with Strand in-game!
I do want to say, I find it interesting how you all describe Strand. We the players know it as a power of the Darkness, but the way you have been describing it makes it seem more like it’s something beyond the Darkness, beyond the light… like it’s part of reality itself in the Destiny universe. I don’t know if those descriptors bringing out such thought patterns are intentional or not, but it kinda adds to the idea that the future of Destiny has more than just Light versus Darkness… Strand is just the beginning of something more.
Love these types of videos. Wish we got the destination live streams we used to have in D1, they were my favorite!
those were needed because the game didn't have an established design philosophy and people didn't know what to expect from destinations. Nowadays pretty much every destination is identical in terms of activity structure, so you know what to expect.
After the beautiful sound design of stasis (especially shadebinder) I have high hopes for strand, using the hexnut for the hunters ropedart was pretty clever
Uhuh
Bungie inadvertently making it so you can grapple the in-flight grenades is such a cool thing to see in game dev, making the unintentional "bugs" into cornerstones of whatever youre working on is very inventive and seems like something the players will really enjoy. Sorta reminds me of how projectile boosting in Ultrakill was initially a bug, but now people say "you can punch your own shotgun shots!! " as a selling point for the game. love to see this kind of stuff in the AAA game industry.
Void is the dimension that separates us. Strand is the dimension that connects us.
I like how they showed concepts for different suspend animations depending on the enemy, but the actual in game footage was a single animation that seems to be applied to just about all the enemies lol
They literally said iterations, these were all ideas that existed before the final product came to be
@@sirmcdust5572 yes, some might call these iterations that were clearly we're designed to only work on one enemies body proportions, something else, they might call it something like concepts :)
@@CursedSwallow it makes more sense to share animations. Especially when said animation looks good and convincing. They’re inevitably adding new enemies, just makes sense to make it applicable across the board.
@@koolkraken912 You know when they add a new enemy (like the only few times they have since d2) that they ALREADY need to make new animations for that enemy to do things like walk... So it is literally 1 extra animation on each enemy. That's not a lot.
@@CursedSwallow yeah, but thats one less animation. Its not like the animation looks bad. Frankly id rather them make one that looks good on all enemies than take the time out of making actual good content just so every enemy has a unique animation youll only ever see when playing one subclass.
Not trying to be a downer im totally excited about this expansion but anyone else notice how little they showed titans compared to warlocks and hunters
They're trying to hide just how little thought and effort they put into titans when compared to hunters and warlocks.
Thats why im playing titan first for campaign so i can get the disappointment out of the way and play warlock and hunter after to feel better lol
@@stephenlee1664 yeah… maybe one day we’ll get some creativity, I just hope it’s at least strong enough to be usable

It's because the titan is garbage and they know it.
Wouldve been an amazing opportunity for the first Titan one off projectile super, Comically Large Strand Object that gets hurled at enemies.
I picture it as the BFG from doom, a large green ball that latches onto enemies
5:20 Many of the best emergent mechanics in games - shotgun punching in Ultrakill, the various movement mechanics of the Source engine, animation cancels in a wide variety of games, etc. - started out that way
I would love to see more of what goes into the sound effects of the game. Some really cool stuff there
so I'm guessing the titan doesn't even get a new ability (like the warlock having its threadlings and cool ranged melee and the hunters kunai) then? Those two looks so unique compared to Titans they've barely even discussed about the titan kit through the entire marketing for this :(
