My name is Paola Merrill, and I am an artist and small business owner living in rural Washington State. Life in a new home has been an exciting transition, daunting at times but rewarding nonetheless. I now live in a woodland home in a pine forest, which I have not yet named (woodland cottage, perhaps? I definitely feel the need to call anywhere I go a cottage now lol) I have been out vintage shopping looking for some deals on unique and handcrafted items, hard to come by for sure! However, with enough patience I have found several pieces that I have been able to fix or up cycle. In this video I wanted to share some of my process of decorating, and how I try to imbue a bit of whimsy and wonder in my space.

To answer another question that I couldn’t due to audio issues: I have not yet moved Mr Darcy and Aegir over here to the new house. There’s still a lot of work being done on the place and until things are more peaceful (and less noisy) they will be at my parents home until we can make a more permanent move (Mr. Darcy does not like loud noises, and I cannot blame him. I am between homes so we are still together most of the time). Hopefully everything should be done in a couple more weeks! It is very exciting. Sending hugs and much love today.

I’m a new follower and I’m loving it. I’m a grandma from Wyoming .I’m 81 years young and love all things you love. Many years ago I lived in the country with my husband and three children. I made my own bread, butter and had a big garden. What a wonderful experience that was. I now live in a small town but have a green spaced behind my home. The deer, pheasants an squirrels visit my backyard often. There are also so many bird at my kitchen window feeder. Even at my age, I can still enjoy God’s beautiful nature. Blessing to you. I purchased 2 of your sweet pictures and love them. I’m going to frame them and display them in just the right spot. I have a little dog, named Benji who is my comfort and joy. I just turned 73 yesterday. I am from India & like you enjoy watching the birds, squirrels & pheasants in my garden. The birds are v talkative especially in this season. The squirrels can be very noisy especially if they find a ripened fruit on a tree. Although Paola is young but there is so much to learn from her. Her love of books & her beautiful art work.

I love when you open a box, a book, a drawer because I expect magic to flutter out! How precious is that little walnut locket!!! 🥰 Who wouldn’t want to spend time in such an enchanting place?!! My heart melts when I see younger people that love antiques. Sometimes at my age I wonder who will care for my antique treasures. My 89 year old neighbor recently passed away and she had no children. She would often say how she didn’t want to sell her antiques but wanted them to go where they would be loved. That little ice cream maker will be used and loved! I've only watched a handful of your videos and really enjoy them. Oh I am from Indiana I'm old enough to be your father maybe even your grandpa. But I enjoy listening and watching ,you have such a kind soul and so artistic. Someone in my family had a sewing basket like the one you shared with us but I can't recall who it was . It is refreshing to hear about your downsized wedding instead of one of those $150K ones that breaks mom and dads bank accounts. It sounds like it will be exactly perfect. The house looks to be coming along and very cozy. I like taking a break from the busy crazy videos here on FB and just relax with a cup of java and listen to your soothing voice and hear what you have to share with us. I was looking on UA-cam for some peaceful videos when I came across yours. I was in awe and wonder watching you live your life. So tranquil and so much beauty all around you. You remind so much of my friend named Gretchen. We did a lot of things together back in the 1990’s. She lived a similar lifestyle to you. She taught me how to live simply but in an elegant way. I miss those days. My life is so hurried now with work, teaching my daughter school and day to day living. I long for the simpler beautiful life that you have. When I was watching you open it I thought she will probably use that for her painting supplies. And that’s what you did. : ). Dear Terri, Paola is a breath of fresh air every time I watch her creations. I discovered P last year during a difficult time when I landed in hospital. I too work part-time jobs & educate my children at home... slowing life down can be very difficult. Especially life in a city (we're in southern Ontario, Canada). Try starting with 10-15 minutes each day. I close my eyes, take deep breaths, think of colours that calm me & search for a few things in my home that bring peace & joy. Try creating small vignettes in a central location (or private nook, prayer corner) using favourite books, plants, cards, pictures. Happy Spring & peace to your home & family.

Kristy from Australia. The best ice cream I have ever had was from a restaurant in Sydney. It was three scoops. The white was vanilla, the purple was lavender and the green was mint. It was garnished with sugared pansies and little purple sherbet straws flavoured with lavender. A feast for the eyes, the tummy and the soul! It was also served with a glass of French champagne.

I got married in May of 2018 and had the most amazing weather experience, seeing that it's normally a cold month! My husband and I live the simple life in a small, off-grid wooden cabin in the forests of New Zealand. We over look the ocean and I have my garden and my husband loves his dog and small fishing boat. We have been married nearly 40 years and have a lot of silvery hair, otherwise I feel we are very similar, dear Paola :)

Unlike Paola, we were living a fast-paced, materialistic life in London when we were her age so I think that is one of the reasons I love her channel so much. We didn't reach her level of maturity till much later and I admire her so much :)

I had the same sewing box, I bought it in my early 20's (I am 69 now). I gave it to my youngest daughter and she removed the legs, maybe one was broken. My older daugther was able to get the same box at a Thrift store years ago. They are both sewers and use it for sewing notions, but I love the idea that you are using it for your watercolour painting supplies. Well, I'm not a new viewer, but I thought I would introduce myself anyway! I'm 19 year old from southeastern Norway. Couple months left of high school, and the stress is killing me, but nature and your videos are keeping me alive. Gonna move out with my girlfriend to Bergen and study history next year. We're both going to be teachers, and my motivation is high. Just need to get this year over with😅

I have a confession: I first saw your videos a year ago and I fell in love! My husband and I often discussed moving away from the city life (in Texas) and moving somewhere to be surrounded by nature and live simpler. But it didn’t seem like it wasn’t going to happen, I was afraid and apprehensive out of fear of change so I stopped watching your videos. (I tend to stop looking at things that may never happen sometimes as a defense mechanism to prevent disappointment and sadness.) I found that it made me a little sad to watch the videos since we were still in Texas, but it was always in the back of my mind. Well…I’m here to share some good news: we moved to Maine and bought some land for a small cabin!!! I cannot believe we did it and we’re still very much in transition and living in a RV till the land is developed but we survived a Maine winter! Thank you for sharing as always and keep inspiring, you never know who it might effect (affect? I can’t ever remember which one lol)

OH!!! I remember those when I was a kid! Those wonderful hand cranked ice cream makers!!! As children we used to fuss over who was going to crank it first. The adults were happy we made it into a game so they didn't have to crank it. We absolutely loved it, and its one of my very favorite childhood memories. Summertime at its best. I so love antiques that spark such lovely memories like that. Thank you for sharing that. I'll be wearing a smile on my face all day long. 💖

That ice cream maker reminds me of my grandfather. He loved ice cream and my family would always gather together to make different ice creams. We all would sit around and tell stories, or chat, while taking turns turning the handle on summer days. His (and mine) favorite flavor was strawberry. We grew strawberries and my grandmother would always freeze a batch specifically for strawberry flavored ice cream. It's such a good memory for me.

I just wanted to let you know that , idk if it's a coincidence or magic , but I had also been loving in a wonderful home for over 3 years now and right when you started to move I did too . I too belong to a military family and living at a place for over two years is a kinda miracle lol . But I was so attached to my room and home , the trees and mountains that could be seen from my window . If I do it in any other order then I end up going back and moving things I think you should take it easy and not rush so you don't do things twice. This time I even took a day off and went to the beach then started again the next day. It seems much easier this way and less of a chore. I highly suggest decorating last. If you are like me you will move things a million times if you don't. Lol. Don't let it control the day. You control it. You got this girl ❤️

I responded to the Dr's comment that he should also check on your channel. To me you also have a strong sense of clean, natural, artistic, and calming videography on your videos. Your writing and editing skill is awesome to me! And you've inspired a lot of people (including me) in a such beautiful and soft way. You've made your viewers peacefully follow your amazing journey of your humble and modest way of life. Btw, your dress and the way you made your hair is so classically pretty. I'm amazed that a millenial generation like you respect and value classical stuff to enrich your daily life. Beside plants, I'm also a fan of macrame for decoration, and I've made some since it matches so well with wood and plant textures, and also washable.
