For those who want to make a max level character, be aware that you can get base attributes past 100 by using felldew (from shimmering isles DLC) and by using the Oghma Infinium.
Yeah this always threw me off. I'd record everything, still not have perfect 5s, and I could never figure out why random points would show up in the next level up. So frustrating until I discovered this little detail!
I can say with experience that "butterknifing" through the game as described is valid strategy. I tend to use the weak and weightless "Blade of Woe." I don't repair it either. This ensures the weapon does as little damage as possible for more swings and exp
Mostl skills increase on "tries" - hitting a skeleton with a rusty dagger gives you the same boost to Blade as striking an a boss with Umbra. Same for magic skills. Casting the lowest level spell you have will give the same raise as one that takes all your magicka.. Acrobatic is different - the skill boost depends on how far you *fall* not how high or far you jump. Sneak is raised by sneaking undetected near an npc. If you "sneak" on automove into a corner that'll work fine. Swimming is said to raise Athletics faster than running - either way it's really slow.
Acrobatics can also be power leveled through extreme volume. There is a spot in the Bruma mage guild where you can jump spam as fast as you can push the button
There are some things you can do that lets you avoid buying a home altogether. The easiest is just to go to Weynon Priory as quickly as you can, and talk to Brother Jauffre. In the dialog ask him for assistance and he will unlock a chest. At that time you can use it for free safe storage. Anything you put inside will never reset and will always be there when you need it. The next is if you have the Knights of the Nine DLC. If you choose to do that at level 1, it is actually amazingly easy as even the final boss can be defeated with little effort. But early on in it you unlock the Priory of the Nine, and after you secure it and the first of the new members arrive, a chest and bedroom appears upstairs. That also acts as a player home, and the chest is safe and will never reset. But the members can consume alchemy ingredients and potions so keep those elsewhere. There are also some you can get for free for completing quests. If you do the Aleswell quest, you get a free room upstairs in the Inn, and the dresser in the room is safe storage. However, the NPCs can remove stolen items from there and occasionally consume food and beverages. So store alchemy supplies and stolen goods elsewhere. The Abandoned Shack in the Waterfront is also safe storage with seven sacks if you want to segregate your items. If you try to board the pirate ship in the Imperial City Waterfront, they will attack. Once they are all dead the ship works as a home with safe storage. Once you complete the quest "Spies", Jearl's home in Bruma essentially becomes yours. However, only the chest in the main building is safe storage. And there are many other makeshift homes you can get in the game, but those are the only ones I really use. But my main one is now the Priory of the Nine, as I can get it easily in the early game. I simply keep everything in there but potions and alchemy tools and ingredients, which I keep in Jearl's home in Bruma.
The note about safe chests allowing npcs to consume items is gold! That's so important to know when just trying to find a place to store things early game!
I have a general tip. Avoid having major skill in particular Attribute that you can't control. For example, in Speed attribute, avoid having Athletic as your major skill, choose Light Armour instead. In Strength attribute, choose a major skill that comes up with the weapon you rarely use (choose Blunt or Hand to Hand if you mainly use sword in your playthrough). It sounds stupid, but it won't mess up your leveling plan. Well, unless you want to go full role playing, then choose whatever major skills you like.
The only purpose in picking opposing major skills is to force stop the leveling process. Staying at a lower level prevents enemies from scaling up faster than you- but it's not at all a requirement! Yes, the system is a bit quirky, so some people just enjoy pushing it to its limits
@@NerdyGamerGal makes no sense at all. I can't play this game if my character gets weaker every level and honestly the idea of efficient leveling kills my imnersion. This game probably was huge back in the day but by today standards it just sucks
You are correct about damage based skills. Back when I was contributing to UESP wiki we (as in the community) found that you are granted x exp per hit so it is always more beneficial to use a fast weapon that has low damage. The amount of exp per hit does not change either.
It's good to have confirmation on that! I just stuck with an iron dagger, weak marksman gear, never used power attacks and was surprised how much faster I leveled. Do you, by any chance, know if that applies to armor and blocking with a weaker shield? If nothing else it meant I had a lot of repairs for armorer
@@NerdyGamerGal In fact, armor exp is just calculated based on hits. It does not matter how much damage is taken/reduced. So, in theory, you should wear the best armor you can so that you don't need to heal as often. The tricky part of training armor is that you only get exp if you are hit on a body part that has said armor equipped. So you should always wear a full set.
@@CMDR-CodyGuess that means my strategy of wearing a bunch of heavy armor and getting myself backed into a corner by several rats is still a winning strat. Can level healing simultaneously too!
There isn't much on builds in youtube in general. I'd love to see some tips on all the races and classes. Right now I'm trying to get started on a Redguard warrior that's focused on speed and health using a blade, that also is able to cast destruction spells efficiently and I'm kind of stuck atm... I guess I'll just play along and see what comes out of it :D. but yeah build tutorials would def. be super interesting and useful!
Do not buy a home first. Do not buy a home until you are rich, or ever. Save your money (from sigil stones and varla+welkynd stones) for trainer lessons and arrows (if applicable). You can live in the Abandoned shack in the Waterfront. All containers except the two barrels are safe. You can also store your things in the open top grain sacs in the Market District for easy sale later and sleep on a homeless pallet in the Arena district or fast travel to the pallet at Dosnot cave. White Stallion lodge is the best house and it is free from a quest. Fast travel to the front door. Why not live in Weynon Priory? Full-on efficient leveling is something for OCD perfect stat freaks to worry about. Simple tips to dominate the game: 1) Start with as much Endurance as you can (50-65) and add more early (you can survive the whole game sword fighting with 65) -- have all three endurance skills as minors to make it easy--especially Armorer and Heavy armor. This is better than starting a feeble character and then grinding Endurance for 12-14 levels trying to catch up on health. 2) Add at least five points to your primary major + specialty fighting skill each level to say even with leveling enemy power (simple math to reach Master skill vs Greater soul creatures after starting with Apprentice skill vs Petty soul creatures). The fighting opportunity in the main quest naturally leads you there if you follow that path from the start with the weapons and spells provided at the start of the game even with the horrible premade classes. If you add more points per level by doing more fighting you will dominate more. If you do not do the main quest you need to do a lot of dungeon fighting. 3) No record keeping --Save the game the instant the sleep icon appears so you can see your starting numbers later. Buy five minor skill trainer lessons after the sleep icon appears so they go towards the next level attribute bonuses. Build your five or ten minor skill points for attributes at the start of each level then go off without a worry to build your major skill + attribute. 4) Always have Athletics and Light Armor as minor skills so they do not conflict with your major fighting skill. High endurance will protect you. Save the armor wearing for building attribute points later.
Yes! Please do the build series you mentioned. Your tips are great, I never new about the app, thanks! My top tip for leveling Athletics is go get Fin Gleam so you can breath underwater. Then jump in the river in Bravil and swim against the wooden gate. Now just rubber-band your controller or keyboard
Okay not going to lie, tying the controller may already be on the upcoming tips & tricks video... 😅 Honestly, after having played numerous times I don't mind auto-swimming into a bridge for hours to efficient level properly but I didn't know about the Fin Gleam so thanks for the info!
@@NerdyGamerGal Fin Gleam's a great item to get early. It has very useful enchantments and it's just laying there on the sea bed. You just have to be careful not to drown while looking for it!
I would probably avoid efficient leveling if ur new and just experiment and when the enemies out level you turn the difficulty slider down (trust me late game goblins can get really ridiculous) and once u got ur bearings on everything try to efficient level as a challenge
That sounds awesome! I've definitely thought of doing games like Fallout, trying ESO, or even trying Morrowind. I've never streamed though, that might be fun
Also, there are two escort quests which become problematic at high levels. 'The Killing Field' and 'The Wayward Knight'. I like to get these done early as they involve keeping very Squishy NPCs alive. This is a real pain if ememies are max level. Hand them in after power leveling for the unique rewards! (Chillrend and Thornblade or Staff of Indarys)
Just planned for hours on excel and decided to make a character with all attributes 100 with a max level of 40. To achieve this, you need the thief birthsign (+10 luck, +20 other attributes) A custom class with +5 luck, +5endurance (endurance and luck must be prioritized at any costs) With the custom class and the thief birthsign, you start with a luck of 65, it is quite big since this attribute can only get one level of a time! It is also a little less brain eating to level up 5/5/1 instead of 5/5/5 because you just have to level up one minor attribute +10 and one major attribute +10 It is planned in such a way that at level 36, you have nearly all atributes including luck to 100 beside : Agility80,Speed85,Personality80 You could stop at level 36, your character will be insanely powerful already! Or push the extra mile to 40 and achieve perfection at the lowest level possible!
If you're talking about Oblivion- im subscribed and liking vids. I didn't play Oblivion until 2021. Lets say i had a career back when this game came out. So no i get to finally experience these games. Anyways, happy to be here. Your voice is calming. Peace
Wait WHAT!? Ive always leveled up like that, ive only gotten a 5 like ONCE. Hey, i totally learned something awesome!!! Bro- thank y..buying a home? What. I just ignored that haha Now i gotta buy a home too!
One thing I often do to cheese early on is go to the Arena at level 1. The first enemies are not all that tough, and actually rather easily defeated. That is where I level my armor fast, as they insist you wear armor they give you. The best fast method is to pick say heavy armor, and wear a light armor helm (or the reverse). Then simply stand in the arena and let them smack away at you. At that early, you can heal faster than they can damage you, so I just let them go at it until their weapon breaks. At that point I normally kill them, then start a new match. I am normally at level 25 in both heavy and light armor in rather short order that way. And as the armor they give you takes the brunt of the damage, it does little to no damage on your own. And the dresser next to the guy to start your match with has 5 sets of heavy and light, you can swap them out for whichever you want to level the most.
I totally agree! One of the most helpful parts about the arena at level 1 is having all the backup armor and even some weapons if you have to use them. It leaves absolutely no barrier to entry
I used to do efficient leveling. Then I reached an Age of Enlightenment. Because efficient leveling requires you to constantly manipulate your character into getting 5/5/5. That process always removes the immersion of the game for me. I’m no longer playing oblivion, I’m playing a game that focuses on 5/5/5. So enough of that madness. Here’s how I play oblivion now. I don’t worry about what character I start with, I don’t care about getting 5/5/5 every level. I just play the game normally with no power leveling, or manipulation, and I always just pick the higher numbers when I level up. NOW, this means your character will suck, so to compensate for that lack of manipulation, I make up the missing points by using the permanent enchantment glitch. YES it’s cheating, BUT I use it fairly. I only use the permanent enchantment glitch to gain the points that I’m missing. That way I don’t have to worry about making a perfect character. Also if you’re stuck picking a Breton, or a high elf because of their magic bonus. You can use a nord, and then use the permanent enchantment glitch to get plus 100 extra magic. THAT WAY you’re not stressed about your character being too weak.
This is dead on! I enjoy leveling for the sake of it but it's true- you end up playing a math game with the mechanics instead of enjoying the story with natural character progression. I've wanted to do a "normal" run through and I like you're approach! I've also heard there's an auto +5,+5,+5 mod which I would be against except I think that would more closely mimic Fallout 3's approach which gives general xp for every action then let's you apply it where you want.
Great video! Once i've finished watching i was shocked that you only had 157 subscribers or so, keep up the good work! You deserve even more people to know this wonderful content! 👍
Also I've seen your content since the luck guides!!! LOVE THE RESEARCH YOU PUT IN! SUCH AN UNDERRATED CHANNEL WOULD LOVE TO SEE A LETS PLAY ON DARK SOULS TOO ☻ Sorry I havent subbed for some stupid reason gonna drop a like on all yoi videos now! Please make more amazing content!
Thanks so much!! I don't think I have the courage to try Dark Souls again but it may be worth a try! I love researching rpgs to make optimized builds and hope to produce more videos in the near future!
I just picked up Oblivion again on PC after last playing it on PS3 back in 2007 and man... of all the things Skyrim oversimplified, I'm SO GLAD leveling was one of them 😅😅
you get xp for heavy/light armor for each hit. So it is best to wear the strongest armor - it allows you to tank more hits before having to restore health, and it takes longer to break.
PLEASE MAKE AN EFFICIENT LEVELING GUIDE!!! 😎 (PERFECT MIX MAX BUILDS OR A VARIETY) AH IM SO HAPPY YOU MADE THIS BECAUSE I WANNA REALLY GET INTO THIS GAME but aa someone with ocd while building characters in rpgs THIS GAME IS A MASTERPIECE BUT OVERALL INFURIATES ME 😤👏👌
I have a guide on efficient leveling and its companion methods that, I think, make for the best one size fits all build: ua-cam.com/video/m22wH9Zgnx4/v-deo.html That's the one things about Oblivion, you can just max everything so there is one optimal character build that will do everything instead of different builds for different play types. Maybe I can do different builds so you can have a character optimized for a play type without the frustration of a perfect build 😁
That’s because the lower tier weapons like a rusty iron dagger or iron arrows & etc have a lower rating on damage and requires more strikes. If an iron short sword has a 2 for damage and a silver short sword has 6 or whatever it is there is your difference.
My Oblivion leveling strategy was sneak near someone for max sneak. Then cliff jump for acrobatics and heal walking back up for restoration. That was pretty much it xD
Yeess, multitasking ftw! I'd hide behind the last rat in the tutorial/sewers and emerge with maxed out sneak. I was super weak but so long as I stayed hidden it was all good....
i would love a build series/play through series that just kind of sets a goal, then you cut together each level up you hit and explain your choices and then the next levels plan. that way you can show us a characters progression from min to max levels without hours of gameplay to watch through
I'm not sure if I have enough recorded content, I would have to sift through all of those hours of gameplay 😅 Since I was experimenting maybe I should start from the beginning and record again so it would be more organized and thorough... I really wanted to make a video like that so it's good to know someone's interested 😁 I am planning on doing a story/quest walkthrough next but that won't include the leveling process since I did that first
@@NerdyGamerGal trueeee. you could just do like maybe the first 3-5 levels of a play through. i dont need the entire build start to finish. i just wanna see how someone who knows what theyre doing actually plays like this because that would help me figure out how realistic it is. i found one other playthrough of a guy thats doing this method of leveling and he seams really reserved but also he's over leveling a bunch of crap while he does it... so it would just be interesting to see how other people tackle it. have you thought about just throwing a stream up and playing oblivion? that way you wouldnt need to plan much or do any post editing?
Hail Nords and other races of cyrodiil i have a game plan thats not too bad and its pretty simple Look at your lowest skills and use them (totally optional on which you use) i for instance look at what i intend on using through the game dependent on the build ive crafted and use one of the skills enough to level it up and i do the same process for most skills i intend on using at some point or another for instance i have a thief character thats also not bad at armoring speechcraft blade block destruction mysticism restoration and so on
I know it's old, but as far as the 'butter knifing your way through' ... It would make sense for that to be the case if XP isn't based on damage but number of hits.
better armor is better for leveling, since it completely breaks less often, and armor levels go by how many times you get hit, in that armor type, as long as it's not broken completely. the least damaging weapon is better for leveling, since it's based on how many times you hit something, not how fast you kill.
Hey NerdyGamerGal, try this for leveling magic skills, Locate the Mage Standing stone far south of Cheydinhal, craft your spells as such: Destruction Weakness to Fire for 3 sec on Touch Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self Alteration Burden for 1 Sec on Touch Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self Illusion Light for 1 Sec on Touch Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self Mysticism Dispel 1 sec on Touch Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self Conjuration Turn Undead on Touch Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self Restoration Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self (Note the reversal for Restoration, because Fortify spells are Restoration) Light for 1 sec on Touch These spells cast faster than Target or Self spells, and they level a bit faster than Self or Target
Do basically should I level all my minor skills yo a hundred before even starting the quests or should I do the mages guild first then start with the minor skills then do the major skills last before starting the quests?
If you're efficient leveling you have to do the minor skills alongside the major skills. Every 10 major skills is a level up and if you have no minor skills to train then you won't get the extra two +5 bonuses to attributes when you level up (you can choose up to 3 attributes). I efficient leveled obsessively until I hit the level I wanted, then I started the main quest line and let the rest of the minor skills level up naturally
If you really want luck then do the latter for sure! If you want an optimized build, especially for harder difficulties, I would skip on Luck. After doing some research, it doesn't seem to work the way it's intended. Of course, I'd love to test that myself with my own Luck build. Let me know how it goes!
ALSO I FEEL LIKE AN UNDERRATED BUILD IS ONE FOR THE NECROMANCER AMULET: Keep it, play a mage use archery forever! And WOW STRENGTH & ENDURANCE ISNT NEEDED 🤠
Seriously! It took a while for the leveling system to fully click and even then the tracking can make your head spin. Those perfect numbers are so satisfying though!
Honestly, it's not the worst thing especially since it has such a simple difficulty slider. It's fun to level like this for the sake of it, kinda like a puzzle 😁
I'm playing without efficient leveling right now and I'm doing ok. I picked the default spellsword class. Although honestly I think the main reason I'm doing fine is that destruction magic gets pretty overpowered once you know what spells to make. I'm not sure how people play this game with pure melee builds as enemies get super spongey at high levels even on normal. My enchanted weapons hit hard but run out of charge quickly and without charge they don't do a whole lot. I'm guessing a pure melee build would have to rely on Azura's star and some powerful custom enchantments to keep up at higher levels.
I agree. Because I started playing when I was younger, I never really explored the true depths of magic. Efficient leveling is a must with my sword & board or stealth archer characters but I would love to go into the op depths of Magica..... maybe the Mages Guild should be next!
@@NerdyGamerGal Mages are by far the most OP class/style in the game due to the way you can stack weakness to magic/elements. Stack a few of those spells together and then hit an enemy with some destruction magic and watch them blow right up. You can also combine those effects together with enchanted weapons too. Hit an enemy with weakness to magic/fire and then swing a sword with fire damage on it at them and watch them explode, for example. I think a lot of people give up on Mage playthroughs because it takes a big effort to unlock custom spells and magic is merely ok before that, but once you unlock custom spells it's game over. You just win if you know how to abuse it.
I have to do this at some point! All the leveling tactics + custom spells + whatever other mechanics are compatible. That might be fun for a max difficulty run! There's also an Enemies Explode spell that I NEED so a new build will have to be in the works
@@NerdyGamerGal I haven't tried max difficulty before but I imagine magic would be the way to go since you can amplify your spell damage to absurd levels by continuously stacking weakness to xx magic effects. It's truly staggering the difference between a Mage using normal spells and one who has unlocked custom magic. The only enemies that might annoy you at that point are ones with reflect on but that can of course be easily solved by a Breton with the level 23 Mundane Ring. And you don't really start seeing many enemies with reflect until around then anyways.
Yes, I'm actually working on the next video right now! I have some more technical content ahead and then I'll be doing the storyline walkthrough. Unfortunately, I have a lot of things distracting me but as time goes on I'm hoping to maintain a more consistent upload schedule
It feels super weird only putting few of my most used skills as my majors... I wanna use a dagger and shield, mix heavy and light armor, dabble in sneak? Yeah only blade and block are in my majors. Feelsweirdman
I’m doing my 4th character and after I got to level ten was like oh let’s do this efficient leveling and had a level up with 5 5 and 4 I’m like really maybe the auto save nope didn’t have a save in last 3 hours so kept it
It's a hard deal to beat! I usually snag the Waterfront Property first because it's just a little cheaper early on when money is slow and it's a good stash spot when starting the Thieves Guild. Otherwise, the Manor is the best choice!
Can someone confirm that "TES Oblivion Efficient Leveling App (Android)" is no longer available 3 years on? I'm watching videos like these because I somehow always make a choice in character creation or early gameplay that turns out to have been a bad idea.
This is the fifth video I've watched on the subject and I still don't feel like I understand exactly what the pitfalls are.🤦♂️ I did download the app though. Definitely going to use that as I go.
Because Oblivion enemies "level up" whenever you do, you can actually become weaker than them over time. It doesn't matter so much if you're willing to just scoot the difficulty slider over, but it's critical if you're playing on max difficulty! I'm just a little OCD about it...perfect builds feel like puzzles 😁
@@NerdyGamerGal I finally did figure it out and once I learned that the loot is also scaled, I just couldn't finish the game. They took all of the fun out of it for me. I wound up downloading Morrowind on my laptop which should get me by until Amazon delivers my ff7 remake :)
Yeah, I leveled up my character to 25 before even starting the missions or doing much looting. It's a huge bummer to find something too early because it will always be a weaker version of itself. I've actually never played Final Fantasy! I may even have one of them.... I'll have to try it sometime
heeyy thanks for the tips!! i can't find the app on play store, is it from the Moon Sugar? it's missing, how sad, now how am i going to be obsessed with perfect 555 leveling up? oh well, we could all try the mod Skill Diary!!!
I know, it's such a bummer! I have no idea why it was taken down but it hasn't been on the play store for a little while now. Unfortunately, I only have a console copy so I haven't gotten to try that mod
"Builds" for what? Efficient levelling for a "perfect" character? For a very powerful character that can play on the highest difficulty? To attain max level? For mage, warrior or thief? Bow, blade, blunt, hand to hand (I don't recommend this one - you can't enchant your fists!) or wizard? Or do you just want a reasonable character to explore the game with?
That's the thing- with the leveling system it really just becomes about making a "perfect" jack of all trades (or with underleveling a jack of most trades). I think it would be cool to make more role playing type builds that are strong without being so stringent on leveling methods but I'm not sure how I would go about that especially since I'd want to be consistent... my build is basically an attempt at a max difficulty build, I was thinking of testing it once I get my minor skills, gear, and enchanting down!
@@NerdyGamerGal O also could not find it. I found a apk outside Play Store and it is making my life easier apkpure.com/oblivion-efficient-leveling/com.rosvin.oblivion_efficient_leveling?posts=1#com.rosvin.oblivion_efficient_leveling-6
Wow, that's so weird! Thanks for finding that, I'll have to check it out. I wish I had all the information on it so I could figure it out but I never thought it would disappear 😅
Is it possible to play the game at level 1 for the majority until all skills are maxed, then level up the attributes by the max each level up in one bulk sleep, leveling yourself up as high as possible? I've tried looking online for conformation, but haven't found any
Yes and no- you can play at level 1 for most of the game if you avoid sleeping. There are two quests, I think, that require sleep so that would mess with that. Since you can't level up until sleeping you will end up bulk leveling up at whatever point you do. On the other hand, if you are not tracking the individual skills/attributes (and keep a record maybe on paper) as you level, your bonuses for each level up will be inconsistent and possibly too low to max out the attributes. If you're leveling as high as possible (until you run out of major skills) you may still max out a lot. Just remember that the enemies in the game level with you and may end up being quite difficult if you're inefficiently leveling
Hey, I know that you said that you only play on Xbox, but is there a reason you can't get a mid ranged PC at least for Oblivion? A potato PC from the last 10 years could run it just fine and you can fix the game with great leveling mods that give you +5 on each level up no matter what, or do realistic leveling that makes it like Skyrim's leveling, or get the Ultimate Leveling mod that let's you level up by gaining XP like Fallout and out put points in skills. Sorry, I don't mean to sound elitist, it's just ES games are so much more fun on PC, especially Oblivion because of the leveling mods that fix the game.
Oh totally, there's so much flexibility with pc! I was actually able to get a mid pc (for making these videos) that I could totally use for gaming but I'm more comfortable with consoles, controllers, and xbox has all my saved games. I've tried pc in the past and really want to try a modded game- maybe one day I'll get a more comfortable set up!
@@NerdyGamerGal Thats understandable. I guess it's pretty much because I grew up with both consoles and a PC starting around the mid 90s, I'm just use to it haha. Enjoy the games as you wish my friend. I enjoy your vids!
Good video but woooosh, leveling is complicated! I need a video that is "how to not fuck up too badly" because all of this extremely detailed maxing stuff just isn't for me :P
Yes, I know this is my 3rd comment, but I just wanted to add, for new players, If you do quests using only minor skills you won't level. Just keep track of your skill ups and you won't mess up your efficient leveling......And the quest 'Mazoga the Orc' will get you a ....[SPOILER AHEAD] free house with bed and storage.
I actually didn't know that was another home option! And it's true, some quests can help with leveling but make it harder to avoid using the skills you're not currently working on. Leveling the wrong skill or collecting an extra point in the wrong attribute isn't really a big deal I'm just a little ocd 😬
@@NerdyGamerGal I totally get it! Sometimes I'll reload a save If I accidentally skill up something unplanned. It's cool that difficulty slider helps to minimise the use of skills. I don't mind setting it to zero on early quests that I've done many times before.😎👍🙆❤
I knew i shouldve rewatched a b vid like this before starting my most recent playthroughgh. Why are the default classes so bad for leveling efficiently?!?!!?
The game autosaves AFTER resting and leveling up? Why would they change this from Morrowind? In that game you could still train you skills to get higher bonuses to attributes even after you've out your 10/10 level up bar. (You level up and you only get +4 in Speed? Reload your autosave, go punch a rat for 2 minutes and you'll get that juicy +5) In Oblivion those bonuses instead carry over to the next level up. I'm trying hard to enjoy Oblivion but it's the little things here and there (excluding bigger things like Speechcraft and the faces) that were better in the previous game that prevent me from really liking Oblivion. The mechanics are backwards! It's better to have skills you won't be using as Majors and it's faster to train weapon skills with inferior weapons. This wouldn't be an issue if the enemy scaling wasn't busted. My first TES game was Skyrim if that matters.
Just one more reason for me to try Morrowind! Honestly, I feel this though. Oblivion was my first Bethesda rpg so I have gotten used to its quirks and can enjoy it like a puzzle, but the time investment is steep and takes away from enjoying the main storyline. Since I do the leveling first to get it out of the way, I can't just jump into a new game/ new build casually so that makes me hesitant to play. I also find leveling up to add a fun motivator so doing in the beginning takes that away. I really want to get oblivion on pc to try mods that mitigate this. It may not be as nostalgic for me personally but would definitely be a cool experience!
@@NerdyGamerGal You're going to love Morrowind, trust me. It just demands more patience, especially in the early levels when your character is very slow and misses some attacks but seeing how much effort you put in your Oblivion character/s, I wouldn't think patience is something you lack. Oblivion on PC is great. You probably know about "better faces" mods but I'd recommend some user interface mods because its UI is designed for gamepads.
I want to get into ESO at some point but I actually haven't even played it yet! I hadn't seen much Oblivion content so I though it might be fun to kick it old school 😁
@@NerdyGamerGal oh definitly try it character customization is unaturally fun there and can suck in all your weekend without you realizing you can do alot of things. anyway goodluck in the future
@@NerdyGamerGal eso is amazing, it's the only game I play. With that said, I started a new oblivion save a week ago and already have 26 hours played and haven't touched eso. It's an amazing game but has nothing on eso in terms of an RPG. Eso has amazing pvp but oblivion just has much better quests that I think eso cant match because of the nature of mmos
I'm a sucker for nostalgia (and that main storyline) so Oblivion has my heart. I hate to say I've never played ESO... the only mmo I've really played is og runescape 😍 Skyrim is hyperactive- you're everyone's saviour, even competing factions. I felt like ESO would be the same except every person you play with is also the same savior because you all do the same quests. It does look awesome though....I can be convinced to try it 😁
It's seriously mind numbing! Mostly just people trying to make the most of an unrefined system. I still often prefer it to Skyrim's leveling mechanics, but even when it clicks it still takes an insane amount of brain power!
It's all well and good, but don't forget that video game isn't a math homework you brought home. It's supposed to be fun. I rather enjoyed everything the game offers rather than sweat myself working out the science of levelling up.
Yeah, it can be exhausting and sometimes I wish I could just enjoy the leveling process without thinking. The one good thing is that you can just ease up on the difficulty slider and build the character however you want 😁
I'm sorry but attempting to make any guide for character development for this piece of crap is fruitless. As soon as you play vanilla any effort you make has no sense cause enemies become stronger with you. The level scaling in this game is ridiculous and discourage from anything. I played Oblivion many times and only build i find interesting is mage because of a broken magic system and abusable drain effect
The game needs so much work and I have yet to play it with any mods so that would be awesome. Personally, I like the puzzle that you essentially have to put together with each character but I know it's just my personality not good game design. I do, however, appreciate that leveling matters and makes a real difference. Despite trying to be helpful, some of my suggestions are going to be convoluted at best, especially for those who are not interested working the more broken mechanics of the game. I am also grateful that the difficulty slider negates any unplayability but it does feel cheap and a game should not rely on it
Oh it definitely can be! 🤣 I like trying to exploit the game to its furthest degree but it's a serious hassle if that's not how you like to play. I don't even want to know how much time this took in total 😅
For those who want to make a max level character, be aware that you can get base attributes past 100 by using felldew (from shimmering isles DLC) and by using the Oghma Infinium.
I had NO IDEA that minor skills after getting 10 major skillups are applied to the following level; that explains so much!
Does this apply to armor and blocking as well?
@@jdub910 No. { each hit taken and each hit blocked } Use the best you have unless training Armorer.
DEAD ON 👏👏
Always chosen athletics and acrobatics over efficient leveling because I want to jump to the moon
but WHY? Why should I pick blunt if I use swords? Is the game super broken or the devs are dumb?
The ancient wisdom is still relevant... and makes for some funny moments!
Simple tips to dominate the game:
1) Start with as much Endurance as you can (50-65) and add more early (you can survive the whole game sword fighting with 65) -- have all three endurance skills as minors to make it easy--especially Armorer and Heavy armor.
Honestly, after having played numerous times I don't mind auto-swimming into a bridge for hours to efficient level properly but I didn't know about the Fin Gleam so thanks for the info!
@@NerdyGamerGal Fin Gleam's a great item to get early. It has very useful enchantments and it's just laying there on the sea bed. You just have to be careful not to drown while looking for it!
Hear ye hear ye! Our lady has returned!
I'm new to oblivion and looking to understand how to do builds and roleplay, the channel looks promising, hope you can continue and help noobs out.
Hoping to do more on leveling and mechanics- I'm also working a on walkthrough right now 😊
I would probably avoid efficient leveling if ur new and just experiment and when the enemies out level you turn the difficulty slider down (trust me late game goblins can get really ridiculous) and once u got ur bearings on everything try to efficient level as a challenge
You should stream Oblivion (and other TES/Bethesda games maybe?), there's few people on Twitch doing it and it's such a great game
This is really good to keep in mind, I hope my lvl 25 won't have too hard a time with this!
@@NerdyGamerGal The uesp wiki has tons of info about spells and tricks you can try if you keep failing. 😎👍
Just planned for hours on excel and decided to make a character with all attributes 100 with a max level of 40.
To achieve this, you need the thief birthsign (+10 luck, +20 other attributes)
A custom class with +5 luck, +5endurance (endurance and luck must be prioritized at any costs)
With the custom class and the thief birthsign, you start with a luck of 65, it is quite big since this attribute can only get one level of a time!
It is also a little less brain eating to level up 5/5/1 instead of 5/5/5 because you just have to level up one minor attribute +10 and one major attribute +10
It is planned in such a way that at level 36, you have nearly all atributes including luck to 100 beside : Agility80,Speed85,Personality80
You could stop at level 36, your character will be insanely powerful already!
Butter knifing my way through the game... Oh wow. Im so doin that. Im goin full butter knife tonight! Wooo!
I'd really love to see build guides and some 'planning a new character' kind of videos👍🤞🙏
Necromancer all the way
One thing I often do to cheese early on is go to the Arena at level 1.
I’ve loved this game since I was a kid, first time playing like this and I’m actually enjoying it
It definitely adds to the replay value for me! The first time you just enjoy the story, but after that it's fun to try to break it 😈
Been binging your content, very cool to see oblivion content of this quality in 2021
Thanks for this video. I noticed that you're still uploading videos about Oblivion which is really cool. I subbed!
Thanks for the tip!
I’ll be sure to try out that tip with the iron dagger.
Awesome, I'd love to see if it works well for other people too. After leveling for so many hours it seemed to make a real difference!
It does it's very noticable so glad she pointed it out cuz my other stuff kills too fast to get xp
very good video. I just got back into it after it appeared on gamepass. This video helps out. You definitely deserve more subs.
I just picked up Oblivion again on PC after last playing it on PS3 back in 2007 and man... of all the things Skyrim oversimplified, I'm SO GLAD leveling was one of them 😅😅
It really helps with immersion when you can effortlessly upgrade your character! Leveling in Oblivion is like whole seperate game 😅
you get xp for heavy/light armor for each hit. So it is best to wear the strongest armor - it allows you to tank more hits before having to restore health, and it takes longer to break.
I recently started playing and I’m big into fallout and Skyrim at least and this video is sweet hot stuff for my oblivion virgin mind
PLEASE MAKE AN EFFICIENT LEVELING GUIDE!!! 😎 (PERFECT MIX MAX BUILDS OR A VARIETY) AH IM SO HAPPY YOU MADE THIS BECAUSE I WANNA REALLY GET INTO THIS GAME but aa someone with ocd while building characters in rpgs THIS GAME IS A MASTERPIECE BUT OVERALL INFURIATES ME 😤👏👌
I have a guide on efficient leveling and its companion methods that, I think, make for the best one size fits all build:
ua-cam.com/video/m22wH9Zgnx4/v-deo.html
That's the one things about Oblivion, you can just max everything so there is one optimal character build that will do everything instead of different builds for different play types. Maybe I can do different builds so you can have a character optimized for a play type without the frustration of a perfect build 😁
What a nice breakdown. Thanks!
i came across an article online once where someone had figured out how many clicks of your controller or mouse button each skill took to raise to 100
Whoa 🤯
You have to do a Build guide, I loved your video, really useful :)
I'm about to start Oblivion for the first time soon...I need all the help I can get lol
I installed the "All +5 Attribute Modifiers" mod and never looked back. Made this game so much more enjoyable tbh
Weapon and armor skills go up when you hit a valid enemy and when you take damage while wearing heavy/light armor respectively
For recording, skill progress, there is a mod that add a book to your inventory and give the potential attributes points for next level
I wish I had this! I play on xbox so I've never gotten to try any of the mods people rave about.... I need a gaming pc 😁
I really wanted to make a video like that so it's good to know someone's interested 😁
I am planning on doing a story/quest walkthrough next but that won't include the leveling process since I did that first
@@NerdyGamerGal trueeee. you could just do like maybe the first 3-5 levels of a play through. i dont need the entire build start to finish. i just wanna see how someone who knows what theyre doing actually plays like this because that would help me figure out how realistic it is. i found one other playthrough of a guy thats doing this method of leveling and he seams really reserved but also he's over leveling a bunch of crap while he does it... so it would just be interesting to see how other people tackle it.
have you thought about just throwing a stream up and playing oblivion? that way you wouldnt need to plan much or do any post editing?
@@adamsvette Do you still play ? If your willing to start a new character I'll tell you how I do it.
@@rapidsqualor5367 i definitely don't have time anymore. I went back to college 😭
Hail Nords and other races of cyrodiil i have a game plan thats not too bad and its pretty simple
Look at your lowest skills and use them (totally optional on which you use) i for instance look at what i intend on using through the game dependent on the build ive crafted and use one of the skills enough to level it up and i do the same process for most skills i intend on using at some point or another for instance i have a thief character thats also not bad at armoring speechcraft blade block destruction mysticism restoration and so on
I know it's old, but as far as the 'butter knifing your way through' ... It would make sense for that to be the case if XP isn't based on damage but number of hits.
All combat skills are based on the number of hits in Oblivion. Every Destruction spell gives 1xp for instance.
Thanks, I bought Oblivion two weeks ago
How'd you like the game? Did you beat it yet or are you like me and can't get your character stats right? XD
@@101ragdoll I Loved the game, I have finished it twice
YES 👏👏👏
I've played through the game several times...
but I've been through character creation many, many more times than that 😁
Brilliant video thank you!
Great tips, thanks!
better armor is better for leveling, since it completely breaks less often, and armor levels go by how many times you get hit, in that armor type, as long as it's not broken completely.
the least damaging weapon is better for leveling, since it's based on how many times you hit something, not how fast you kill.
as a beginner, thank you for this guide
Absolutely, thanks!

Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self
Alteration Burden for 1 Sec on Touch
Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self
Illusion Light for 1 Sec on Touch
Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self
Mysticism Dispel 1 sec on Touch

Conjuration Turn Undead on Touch

Restoration Fortify Magicka 21 points on Self (Note the reversal for Restoration, because Fortify spells are Restoration)
Light for 1 sec on Touch
These spells cast faster than Target or Self spells, and they level a bit faster than Self or Target
Amazing guide
Do basically should I level all my minor skills yo a hundred before even starting the quests or should I do the mages guild first then start with the minor skills then do the major skills last before starting the quests?
If you're efficient leveling you have to do the minor skills alongside the major skills. Every 10 major skills is a level up and if you have no minor skills to train then you won't get the extra two +5 bonuses to attributes when you level up (you can choose up to 3 attributes).
I efficient leveled obsessively until I hit the level I wanted, then I started the main quest line and let the rest of the minor skills level up naturally
Is it better to level 3 skills like you said or do 2 skills and a point in luck? I want max luck.
Okay, I have to check this out!! Two less attributes to efficient level would make for a more relaxed build! (Especially for underleveled builds!)
Wait, was that a picture of Dave Ramsey on the “save your septims” tip?! Who said video games can’t teach/remind you of valuable life lessons...
This is one of the games that makes my head hurt just trying to figure it out
Seriously! It took a while for the leveling system to fully click and even then the tracking can make your head spin. Those perfect numbers are so satisfying though!
i have a breton female breton, using warrior sign. using your guide you show at 0:23 my mysticism stay at 90 and my endurance at 95. help me please
This was a great video, but ive been leveling somewhat poorly up to level 9. Hopefully i can retroactively fix this
Honestly, it's not the worst thing especially since it has such a simple difficulty slider. It's fun to level like this for the sake of it, kinda like a puzzle 😁
I don't think the app is available anymore
Is the app still available? 2021 it's no longer on the app store
I couldn't find it! It's still on my phone so my phone better last forever

I just found you, and I'm not sure if you still upload
Yes, I'm actually working on the next video right now! I have some more technical content ahead and then I'll be doing the storyline walkthrough. Unfortunately, I have a lot of things distracting me but as time goes on I'm hoping to maintain a more consistent upload schedule
It feels super weird only putting few of my most used skills as my majors... I wanna use a dagger and shield, mix heavy and light armor, dabble in sneak? Yeah only blade and block are in my majors. Feelsweirdman
I’m doing my 4th character and after I got to level ten was like oh let’s do this efficient leveling and had a level up with 5 5 and 4 I’m like really maybe the auto save nope didn’t have a save in last 3 hours so kept it
Oh that's the worst! I've redone hours of gameplay and it's painful so now I just save way too much
Why waterfront instead of the manor? It’s 5k and comes furnished
This is the fifth video I've watched on the subject and I still don't feel like I understand exactly what the pitfalls are.🤦♂️
I did download the app though.
Damm, Im new here and I would love to see builds
Could you share the link do the app Android? I couldn't find into play store.
Oh whoa, I couldn't find it! I haven't had it since finishing the leveling on my current character‐ I hope it wasn't deleted.
I'll keep looking
@@NerdyGamerGal Awesome, thank you
On android and can't find the app on the Play store :(
Yeah, it seems as though it was taken down a while back but I have no idea why. I haven't seen anything similar to it sadly
@@NerdyGamerGal thanks for the reply, makes me sad it no longer exists :( looks like pen and paper it is :D
I know this is late but would just leveling up a small number of skills (like 3) work?
You can totally do that so long as they're all from different attributes and 1 is a major skill (if you're doing the 5-5-5 method).
@@NerdyGamerGal awesome! Thanks
Thanks
It's not butter knifing the game, it is the John Wick method hahaha
When someone messes with my horse ..... they suffer
Yes, I know this is my 3rd comment, but I just wanted to add, for new players, If you do quests using only minor skills you won't level. Just keep track of your skill ups and you won't mess up your efficient leveling......And the quest 'Mazoga the Orc' will get you a ....[SPOILER AHEAD]
free house with bed and storage.
I don't mind setting it to zero on early quests that I've done many times before.😎👍🙆❤
I don’t understand none of this but I’m playing this game today on Xbox s
I can't find the app, does it still exist?
Unfortunately, no one's been able to find it for months now. Thankfully, it's still on my phone but I have no idea why it would be taken down
@@NerdyGamerGal that sucks, oh well I guess that I'll just make a spreadsheet. Thanks for the super quick reply!
I knew i shouldve rewatched a b vid like this before starting my most recent playthroughgh. Why are the default classes so bad for leveling efficiently?!?!!?
who's hand is in the thumbnail lel, mustve made it before getting the crusader gaunlets
Someone with way manlier hands than me 😏
@@NerdyGamerGal those are very manly indeed
Here is the link to the page I mentioned in my previous comment. en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Increasing_Skills
The app no longer exists sadly
Yeah, this is so disappointing... I wonder why it was taken down
@@NerdyGamerGal money costs probs
No matter how you look at it, Oblivion is way to difficult for normies. That's what makes it fun, playing the way you feel like and have endless fun.
Still loyal to oblivion when ESO is the way to go for youtube huh
I respect it but recommend againest it
I want to get into ESO at some point but I actually haven't even played it yet!
I hate to say I've never played ESO... the only mmo I've really played is og runescape 😍
Skyrim is hyperactive- you're everyone's saviour, even competing factions. I felt like ESO would be the same except every person you play with is also the same savior because you all do the same quests.
It does look awesome though....I can be convinced to try it 😁
IVE RUN OUT OF SAVE SLOTS ;-; im on ps3 so I guess that's why
Nooooo! Oh the days of the save slots man.... the gravity of deciding what to delete or keep 😨
Wow uh, I’ve studied this shit for maybe 15 hours with this video and other videos and I still don’t understand it…..
It's seriously mind numbing! Mostly just people trying to make the most of an unrefined system. I still often prefer it to Skyrim's leveling mechanics, but even when it clicks it still takes an insane amount of brain power!
STEP 1: pc users get skill diary. Problem solved. I don't know if this mod is available to console users so.
Finally, got the game on pc and I've always wanted to try skill diary and other leveling mods!
@@NerdyGamerGal It makes things a LOT less complicated! Congratulations on getting this on PC.

I guarantee NO ONE is gonna write down their "plan" for leveling
Maybe I'm the only person who does this..... I'm not ocd I swear! 😁
@@NerdyGamerGal you're probably the only one lolol
ZA WARUDOO
See, we call you guys nerds
There should be a few newer versions of this game, Skyrim is SO watered down compared to this...
Honestly it's dumb that Oblivion incentivices players to do this
It's all well and good, but don't forget that video game isn't a math homework you brought home. It's supposed to be fun. I rather enjoyed everything the game offers rather than sweat myself working out the science of levelling up.
What in the corrupt-file-green horror is this? 😂
Rats
Leveling in this game sucks. It ruins the entire experience.
I am also grateful that the difficulty slider negates any unplayability but it does feel cheap and a game should not rely on it
This sounds like a horrible way to play the game.
Oh it definitely can be! 🤣 I like trying to exploit the game to its furthest degree but it's a serious hassle if that's not how you like to play. I don't even want to know how much time this took in total 😅
