I'd rather play Wichita honestly. You still get the hydro - and you get a base of 3 charges instead of 2, you get the RADAR, you get a 10 second reload, you have a smaller citadel - and you're a smaller target overall. You're more agile and thus harder to hit. You don't get the superheavy AP but you do get the improved autobounce angles. And you get faster, flatter-flying shells. Still, I bought the Rochester. I had a coupon. What the hell.
For solo gameplay, I'll stick with Baltimore. I could see this being fun in a division with a Balti or another radar ship. The saturation of radar has really reduced the effectiveness of smoke at T8 and above.
ha...finally made it into a SLM video (I'm that Haarlem) . Didn't recognize SLM until after the match so running into him at 11:36 was by accident (I just wanted to use his smoke but he was backing up). Also yea, I went broadside to a Petro because I didn't see it after getting tunnel vision-focused on that DD in smoke at 19:44 (which I eventually killed via air strike)...by time I saw the Petro I went "oh, f*". The Petro didn't kill me though...I ate a torp from another DD...joy. Regarding the Rochester, I'll be skipping that one.

I think you are confusing situational with experience. A person who doesn’t know when or how to use a radar will pop it poorly and it’s effect on the overall battle is minimal, where as someone who doesn’t know how to properly use smoke, still has a smoke. At the least a teammate can use it. However a uni player using radar, like a radar mino can turn the tide by DD hunting with stealth radar like a true chad.
Would a Baltimore with MBRB be more interesting? From my POV it just doubles down on the Baltimores biggest strength, her incredible guns/super heavy AP.
You also have Wichita, which has New Orleans guns (so not as punchy AP) but radar and amazing maneuverability, speed and concealment. How does Rochester compare to Wichita?
Much better imo. Wichita is just a worse Baltimore, her stealth which was supposed to make up for the weaker guns gets countered by CVs spotting you no matter what. I'd take Rochester over Wichita in randoms, by far. She's alot better for survivability and contributing to damage as she can fire from smoke and not get shot at, which Wichita can't do, she relies on island hugging which tends to be hit or miss for me, especially if you end up getting the rare Ocean map game.

With the way things have been improving: Much more transparency (the last month of DevBlogs). Early access ships being removed from random bundles (Soviet CV event and the upcoming German BC event). And WG actually listening to feedback (ASW changes, no CVs in the next CBs season). I’ve decided to resume reviews for now.
SLM needs to make money too and this is how he does that. I cant really blame him for not wanting to throw it all away in protest. However, this is why WG will never truly change. Even after all they've done all it takes is a little skirt lift and a cute apology to get people to start throwing money at them again.
I got ma Anchorage so I probably won’t get Rochester, plus when I played through the American Heavy Cruiser I enjoyed Buffalo a bit better than Baltimore

While Rochester has the AA, super heavy AP and a better smoke firing penalty, Anchorage has the torps which actually are damn god and convenient when the need arises, more Alpha strike and slightly more HE DPM. If anything, i actually believe WG made Rochester to be an "i missed out on Anchorage" Card as a USN smoke CA. Although not the same but similar in concept i believe they are doing the same to Odin with Brandenburg soon coming out. Basically just making sidegrades of dockyard ship gameplay Concepts (not ships and classes themselves) and selling them as normal premiums. that's just my theory of course.
From a premium standpoint...get the Wichita. Smaller profile than the Baltimore, better turning radius, stealthier and compatible aa. The Wichita does not carry the super heavy shell. And also if you are not a dedicated grinder of ships ... the Wichita in comparison to the Baltimore is just a fun boat where the Baltimore feels so much more sluggish. The Wichita outclasses the Rochester. Anchorage gives you torps. Intriguing boat but a soft pass.

Radar is too situational, smoke allows you to position how you want and defend yourself in smoke with your hydro.

The Oregon City ships were considered a Sub-Class of the Baltamore class by the USN.
Worcester is great and I just manage to get my Des Moines after rersetting the line.
Decreasing smoke "Dispersion" time is a buff so it's a good thing along with increased duration...

Anchorage has poor range, bad AA, no super heavy AP and massive smoke firing penalty. Not the best T8 cruiser tbh

Anchorage does well in convoys, but I much prefer Rochester in randoms.
matches now, it doesn't matter what ship your in, its decided by MM. Theres nothing a team of casuals can do against a team of unicrum.

What's the detection range while firing from smoke? That's what killed the Anchorage, it has like 11km detection while still in its smoke...
