I know this is an old video but I just wanted to say I followed along with this video and made myself 3 lovely shelves for the airing cupboard and I'm not the handiest of handymen to say the least. Thank you very much Ben! 😁🙏🏼 Great video!
Wonderful! So glad my video helped you create some shelves as well! There are some bits that I could have probably done better but my shelves came out are ok and I think will stand the test of time.
Hi I’ve just found this video and wondering how your shelves have held up? I noticed you used normal rawl/wall plugs not plasterboard ones and curious to know if they worked ok? I’ve got an awkward space to build shelves in, around similar tanks to yours but taller and a small one at the top also and so am picking up tips where I can😂
Might have been an idea not to have the shelf the same depth; so you increase the space to get stuff in. Eg only 75% as deep. Nice work though. I’m going to try something like this today
Hi Ben.. I am planning g to put airing cupboard shelve. Similar to the one you have shown. I couldn't find a batten behind the stud wall. How can I still support the shelves. Can u suggest.
because of the torque from the drill? 😂 well I don't suppose I'll ever need to take it down to be honest so that's probably ok, I doubt anyone else will either unless they decide to move the airing cupboard in which case they'd probably be knocking down walls

Brilliant job chap. Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!

Good luck with yours!
Good Effort
Thanks :)
Fair play to you Ben
Thanks!

All good, yeah the shelf has held up fine. I use the original branded rawlplugs so they have been ok.
Top job.. 👍Happy New year
Thanks, you too!
If you make it less deeper , then you will have better access to and larger items could be put there
But if it's less deep you have less storage space? And you can just put things at the front which would be the same as making it less deep?
This is exactly what I need to do.
Good luck, it really wasn't hard to do
How do you know where the joists are on the wall or what fixings you are you using to mount the Batons
I was just screwing the batons into the plasterboard, I just used 6mm screws and rawl plugs

That's a good idea, didn't really occur to me to make it not as deep. Luckily I can just about get things up there.
@@BenPaton81 You could still take a couple of batons off easily enough.
I'm putting up shelves in a shelfless cupboard on the same lines.

Have you tried something like a Stanley Fatmax stud finder?
Hi Ben, what type (make, model, size) of plugs did you use? Cheers.
Hi I like buying the branded rawl plugs. It would have probably been 6mm ones.
😀👍🏻
😀👍🏻
Splendidly to see woodglut have new plans which helped me save some money and energy for this construction.
I'd never heard of woodglut before people mentioned it in the comments here.
They're called rawl plugs, not wall plugs :-) Just so you don't spend the next 30 years saying it wrong lol
Thanks! Yeah I think I do know this it just comes out as wall plugs lol. I mince my words a lot especially on camera!
Technically, a Rawlplug is a plug made by the Rawlplug company. All others are just wall plugs
Those poor screws 🙈 be surprised if there's any head left in them 😂
