I'm riding on my 30+ year old Board (Ride Tea Cup) since high school and the base is pretty beat up however, I have NEVER tuned it up. We used to ride multiple times a week back in the day and as I got older it went down and down... now at 49 I go riding like 3 times a year. Maybe I'm used to it but I don't see a difference compared to my buddies and their fancy newer boards other than they may be a little quicker than me (with same size boards)... but at the end of the day, I don't need to be the fastest.

Always find pulling the scraper easier than pushing in to the wax but whatever works for your style. The wax is on and off job done ✅

I would not, you never know what else you grab up with that wax, dust, rocks etc.
that miss debris could cause a hue scratch later on. better to just get a big block of wax>
