Stomp Pad. This is a huge game changer, most problems for getting off the lift derives from not being able to keep your unstrapped foot on the board, the stomp pad solves that problem.
Especially steep lift hills or non-detachable lifts. Smash your back foot against the back binding on the front or back edge depending on which way you wanna go and just ride it out 👍
The tip about not bombing down the hill and start ollies and carving is huge. I was one of the people that just bombed down the hill and I wasn’t progressing at all so I slowed down and started getting more playful with the board. Huge part of progressing in the beginning stages.
I actually think heading to slightly steeper, SOFTER snow when beginning may be a good tactic. The greens and blues can be packed and hard and the flatter the slope, the more vague/subtle being on an edge is. Not to mention there's more traffic and possibility of running into someone. My first two trips out I stayed on the bunny hill and greens and fell super hard super often (which obviously is normal). My third time out was with a buddy of mine who's been on the mountain his whole life and he took me straight to the top and I had an infinitely better time. Fell just as much but it didn't hurt so damn bad and was way more fun and less stressful..
Seriously - more trafficked slopes are usually WAY harder when you fall. The snow is likely more compacted and the fall can be worse due to less downward momentum (as long as you're going the same speed)
Felt personally attacked when you said "just cause you buy the Capita DOA doesn't mean your gonna throw a backside 360" after I just bought the Super Doa this season lmao. Love the videos keep evolving can't wait to see the east coast trip videos.
1:40 This is so true and this needs to be expressed more. Just because you can nail that black run, doesn’t mean the other less difficult runs are off limits to you. Most of the time you will also find people like yourself on the less difficult runs just trying to practice something. Don’t feel embarrassed. This is the same for the terrain park, if it takes you three times down the terrain park to actually start hitting tricks, then so be it. You are just being cautious of your surroundings and remember that everyone you see doing jumps or doing black runs started just like you!

Obviously different strokes for different folks, but imo I would suggest taking the first day to solely get comfortable on the board and on your edges (chill on the bunny hill). I tried greens without ever being in a board before and I was just extremely frustrated the entire time and it made me almost quit. That being said, once you are comfortable and can stop on your edges, get out of the bunny hill ASAP because it’s going to be easier to learn on the actual runs!

Some people will literally sit and watch until you hit a certain trick or veterans will literally come up to you and explain how to do it or give tips. Us snowboarders and some skiiers ive met are all insanely nice people.
Tip 7 needs a to be a little more clarified. As an instructor, I have had several people come out with the wrong size board, bindings that are not properly adjusted, and bindings that are not great for people just starting out. Proper size is important and the gear does matter. Bindings that only wrap your foot but not your toes can cause your toes to want to lift up instead of being locked down like the top of your foot. It is important that your heel and toes never lift up from the board because those points are what allow you to have a solid connection with your edges. Spending more money on better equipment will help improve your riding because you get what you pay for. All things for your snowboard are for performance. Buy a shitty set of bindings, have a shitty connection with your board and ultimately a shitty time.
one thing i can say about this vidoe is, for my first time i just went stright to the top, i was on a green though. but i learned really fast. I just went for my second time and im hitting blues now. but in the middle of that day i did hit the baby lift a few time to practice my toe slide
Great tip on resting your foot on the back part of your binding I duct tape the toe of my unstrapped boot and finally WAX WAX WAX your board I do it every other time I ride. Great video
When I was learning how to ski, I would take the easy way down followed by a run that was just above my ability or just at the top of it. Personally even tho I go to the top of the mountain everytime I snowboard. A good tip is to warm up on the easier trails. Especially if you live in a place like Cali where snowboarding is once a year thing
this might sound dumb, but i’m a beginner snowboarder and i was wondering if i should get different boots for snowboarding and just playing in the snow or can i use the same boots?
You need snowboard boots, don’t go ride with regular snow boots. If you don’t have the ankle support and snowboard boot provides, you are very likely to hurt yourself.
The thing is that I don’t have that little high back loop that comes off the binding so I can’t hook my boot on my high back on the lift. They’re off brand they’re called symbolic bindings.
You should do a 10 mistakes for beginners park only. Also any tips for avoiding a sore neck after crashes. I had ate it on a rail twice in a row yesterday, and then a few weeks ago I cought a heel side edge trying to spray some powder to rider through. Both times no injury except a sore neck the next morning.
To prevent you from turning your torso the opposite way from the board my advice is to point your “ forward” arm towards the direction you like to go. This helps with learning to carve easier.
Big tip froM me: If your core strength and leg muscles are not the strongest and have no condition hit the gym or start to workout these areas if you are going to snowboard for more than just a few hours. Muscles get tired and your knees have to catch impacts.
Hey Johnathan, I have a burton Custom Flying V 162W and my weight is 125 and height is 5'8. Am I okay to ride this board or should i get a smaller one like 150/154/157
i agree about the ruddering issue! Controversially though I think its not that much of a problem/issue. I noticed when I;m teaching friends its best they master being able to make it down the mountain as quickly as possible then finesse and refine, then they master how to do it perfectly. So Im always happy if they are able to rudder their way down because we can work on edge control later
Beginners should binge watch all the UA-cam videos. Beginners should focus on how to get on and off the lift. How to get up and fall down. They should get duck stance and try riding both regular and switch. And most importantly how to stop.
Hello, I went snowboarding for the 2nd time last week and planning to go again this weekend. I “caught my edge” a couple times and I was wondering how to prevent that.
I’m learning too, but what has helped me is going on steeper terrain (as long as you are comfortable where you are at) it’s easier to lock your edges in the mountain when it is steep.
When i went snowboarding i was going on a little jump under the chair lift and i fell just before the jump and they all went uhhh in way that made it feel they said uhh you will get it next time and then went yay when i was able to get enough speed to do the jump and did perfect it made my day so much better.
if you are learning and you are about to go to the park always think about these things! : Do i know how to fall correctly? Is the weather good or bad/ do i have a backprotector (if you fall on rails with your back) am i really confident riding with speed and doing sharp turns/ do i know how to ride switch?. These things are going to help you a lot and also make you progress faster at learning tricks and remember everyone started small!
I'm about to go to Tahoe, do you think I should pay for clases there? It's about 340 bucks. But at the same time I learn quick by watching these snowboard vids. Let me know.
Give one day by yourself and if you need help take the class. I have a how to Stop, how to J turn and a how to S turn video in my how to snowboard playlist. Those 3 videos are all you need to learn.
My friend and I are just starting to get to the intermediate phase and she wants to go to the park without knowing how to carve or even hopping while going down.

Bro how about heavy tall guys buying boards I’m like 6’ 240 started snowboarding last year did pretty good on the rental during my lesson but purchased a used board from a friend which is a 164 but has a significant set back and feel like it’s narrow in the waist got like inch and half over hang on my boots front and back and was having problems trying to carv last year especially on steeper slopes
Don’t forgot about buying a snowboard: consider boot size! If you’re like me, I have size 11 boots, so I had to go with a slightly longer board in the wide variant to make the ride smooth and not hit toe hang
"If you let people know 'Yo this is my first time trying this' and you try it and you stomp it, everybody's going to be stoked because everybody likes watching other people get better." For some reason this got me crying. This past year has been rough.
Okay so question, I’ve gone snowboarding I’d say around 10 times now and I just purchased a board for myself... I got onto the mountain the other day with it and it was so slippery 😂 I guess I’m used to rentals being a bit heavier and not as slick, but how the hell do you snowboard on such a slick board?! I tried toe carving and my board went out from under me and I face planted in the snow *yay* 😅
My first time ever snowboarding I went to the lift that took you to the very top of the mountain I didn’t know where I was going because my brother told me it was the easiest even tho I saw the map myself and saw that the easiest one was the other ski lifts I trusted him so I went ahead by myself because he had to stay back with his girlfriend so I get on barely being able to get on the ski lift lmao so I’m on this ski lift and about 10 minutes go by and I start freaking out because every time I see a hill i think it’s the last one eventually I make it to the very top of the mountain and I eat shit falling off the ski lift and just sit there contemplating wtf to do because it looks to steep and it was too narrow for my first go, mind you I’ve never been snowboarding and I haven’t even practiced on the board and I then I try calling my brother to tell them not to come up because I don’t even know how I’m gonna make it down eventually I grow some balls and go for it I’ve skateboarded before but I ate shit going down the first steep hill because I was scared then I picked it up pretty quickly all those years of power sliding paid off. when I was snowboarding on my way down I saw a snowmobile I thought it was for my them because I knew they wouldn’t come down if they’d gone up but my brother and his girl couldn’t get on because the employees wouldn’t let them on she couldn’t figure out how to put on the skis.

Buckhouse! Is the snowboard weight based on actual weight or plus all your gear?
You should do a 10 mistakes for beginners park only. Also any tips for avoiding a sore neck after crashes. I had ate it on a rail twice in a row yesterday, and then a few weeks ago I cought a heel side edge trying to spray some powder to rider through. Both times no injury except a sore neck the next morning.
Welcome to the park game...
Love your vids
To prevent you from turning your torso the opposite way from the board my advice is to point your “ forward” arm towards the direction you like to go. This helps with learning to carve easier.
Dude falling is the best part
Lol everybody falls, that’s how you get better
Buck20😍💕❤️💕❤️ the best mountain deal yet
Heck yeah bro!!!
Love theese videos when im sick at home and cant go out snowboarding myself
Dope af
🙏🏼
Big tip froM me: If your core strength and leg muscles are not the strongest and have no condition hit the gym or start to workout these areas if you are going to snowboard for more than just a few hours. Muscles get tired and your knees have to catch impacts.
I just started snowboarding two days ago and I suck at riding my toe side edge Lol
Can you give some tips for getting up after falling
Hey Johnathan, I have a burton Custom Flying V 162W and my weight is 125 and height is 5'8. Am I okay to ride this board or should i get a smaller one like 150/154/157
i agree about the ruddering issue! Controversially though I think its not that much of a problem/issue. I noticed when I;m teaching friends its best they master being able to make it down the mountain as quickly as possible then finesse and refine, then they master how to do it perfectly. So Im always happy if they are able to rudder their way down because we can work on edge control later
I went off a drop/jump yesterday and caught my heel edge on the landing And just got bodied and now I got whiplash and bruised ribs
Cool story bro
Cool story bro
Beginners should binge watch all the UA-cam videos. Beginners should focus on how to get on and off the lift. How to get up and fall down. They should get duck stance and try riding both regular and switch. And most importantly how to stop.
Hello, I went snowboarding for the 2nd time last week and planning to go again this weekend. I “caught my edge” a couple times and I was wondering how to prevent that.
it just board control you will get it over time but don´t give up
learning to carve helped me so so much
Thanks.
I’m learning too, but what has helped me is going on steeper terrain (as long as you are comfortable where you are at) it’s easier to lock your edges in the mountain when it is steep.
Detune the non effective edge points. It should help prevent those unexpected edge catches.
When i went snowboarding i was going on a little jump under the chair lift and i fell just before the jump and they all went uhhh in way that made it feel they said uhh you will get it next time and then went yay when i was able to get enough speed to do the jump and did perfect it made my day so much better.
Dude I loved hearing that! 100% everyone wanted to see you send it. We are all just having fun.
Very helpful thanks
if you are learning and you are about to go to the park always think about these things!
@@JohnathanBuckhouse Thanks, I'll take a look at your recommendations.
Skiier and Snowboarder here, all of these tips are not Snowboarding specific, they count for skiing as well!! (well except for No.2 i guess)
What board do you use?
7th also just went snowboarding today and ima be snowboarding tomorrow
Same bro
My friend and I are just starting to get to the intermediate phase and she wants to go to the park without knowing how to carve or even hopping while going down.
So im trying to find a right size snowboard, but my height(5' 10") is a little disproportionate to my weight (130lbs) what do you recommend I do
Your last tips number 10 very important goggles
I need someone help about finding correct goggles I really need like wide angle like more wiev on goggles any ides brand I hope o explain my self like when I use goggles I can't see people around me like as like without goggles on my heat so any wide Wiew like huge glass on the front??
Bro how about heavy tall guys buying boards I’m like 6’ 240 started snowboarding last year did pretty good on the rental during my lesson but purchased a used board from a friend which is a 164 but has a significant set back and feel like it’s narrow in the waist got like inch and half over hang on my boots front and back and was having problems trying to carv last year especially on steeper slopes
Don’t forgot about buying a snowboard: consider boot size! If you’re like me, I have size 11 boots, so I had to go with a slightly longer board in the wide variant to make the ride smooth and not hit toe hang
Really, I didn’t think about that. I wear size 13 💀
"If you let people know 'Yo this is my first time trying this' and you try it and you stomp it, everybody's going to be stoked because everybody likes watching other people get better."
For some reason this got me crying. This past year has been rough.
Are you out of stickers? I can't find them in your store anywhere! Going to order one of those sick neck gaiters though.
Can u give me the link to get that jacket
Okay so question, I’ve gone snowboarding I’d say around 10 times now and I just purchased a board for myself... I got onto the mountain the other day with it and it was so slippery 😂 I guess I’m used to rentals being a bit heavier and not as slick, but how the hell do you snowboard on such a slick board?! I tried toe carving and my board went out from under me and I face planted in the snow *yay* 😅
Wax it frequently
Broke my back on a blue Sunday lol but still watching videos maybe next year lol
Nooo! I hate hearing that. I hope you heal fast.
What happened?
@@paulvoney9592 was carving down a hill on my heel edge and couldn’t turn to my toe edge fast enough so I ended up hitting a vertical side wall like a jump which sent me flying horizontally onto my back and I landed on ice boulders fracturing 3 ribs breaking one and fracturing 3 transverse process vertebrae in my lower back
@@2guns1hand oh man that sucks. Hope you get better soon!!
