DOES '2023' CITRA SMASH? | CITRA SMaSH | GRAIN TO FERMENTER | BATCH SPARGE

- Опубліковано 17 лют 2024
- Hey everyone! Welcome to this weeks video. We saw last week Cross My Loof put 2023 Harvest Citra on their website - we decided we needed to try it asap.
Very simple brew day! 'Our Lass' for the mash and Brewzilla for the boil kettle (Brewzilla used as boiler to save Fenton bringing his boiler to mine). Let us know what you think! Any tips let us know!
Cheers, Ben & Fenton
Alright lads great video love the sandwich insight lol, just to say that yeast strain you used is intended for adding as a secondary fermentation yeast specifically for refermentation in bottle or cask, hopefully it will still get the job done for you 🍻
Thanks for watching mate - both big fans of your videos! Cheers for the advice on the yeast, it was a pretty spontaneous decision then we realised after 😂 - However 3 days in and just above FG on it 💪
Once again appreciate you tuning in 🍻
@@TankardBrewing cheers glad it worked hopefully be a tasty brew!
Have you thought about using whole hops in the whirlpool and then recirculating for a few minutes before transferring to the fermenter ?
My thinking is the whole hops will settle and form a good filter bed to hold back the pellet hop and cold break debris. 🍻🍻
We have tried it a few times, we've got whole leaf hops coming out of everywhere at the moment 😂 picked them all up in a Black Friday sale last year! 🍻
Nah then lads! Yet another great video..as per! Always nice to see you two and hear the angelic tones…Meks me feel like I’m home!
I must say your lass is a stubborn bugger when she’s got her head screwed on 🤣😂😂. That orange and white really shows off her figure.
A little tip which you might or might not already know. When using your refractor, put on the drops close the ‘lid’ then press the lid to the prism whilst holding it horizontally upside down for about 20 secs. The result is usually a nice clear line not fuzzy.
Bottled my mosaic ipa on Friday night and will probly crack one this Friday although I know two weeks is better but I’m really eager to see how it turned out.
I bought some wy1318 last week and on Satdy mornin brewed a Coopers/MrBeer ipa kit with it that I had bought last year; when it’s done I think I’ll be trying the mosaic ipa again but I also got some citra hops and am just weighing up the idea of either doing a straight citra or combination with mosaic. I’m leaning toward straight citra to see the flavour difference…any thoughts?
Ps best thing I ever got from B&M was squeezy mint sauce which I have subsequently recreated with my own recipe since I can’t get it here…and it is top banana! nice to see they’ve expanded their range!!
Haha mate she really is! Couldn't for the life of me unscrew it 😂 med me look saft! We weren't aware of that, I shall definitely try that next with the refractometer!! Cheers for that!
Mosaic and Citra is a good combination mate! Give it a try! Thanks for tuning in pal, appreciate it 🍻🍻
Cracking video gents, totally agree with carl stockenberg, grain to glass would be great. Cheers
Thanks mate! They are coming, just need to play catch up so we can have content to come out every week ☺️ watch this space!! 🍻
Didnt know B&M sold Maris Otter! 😛 You guys are getting some agro with that fermzilla! Quite frustrating at the end of the brewday! Keep up the good work!
Haha if only 😂 honestly mate I've fallen out of love with it so much - absolutely does my head on! Thanks buddy will do 🍻 - Ben
Nice to see you having fun making good beers. Cheers 🍻
Thanks mate! Gotta have fun whilst brewing! Cheers for watching 🍻 - Ben
I love citra just done a mosaic and citra ipa under pressure. Love crossmyloof put 2 separate orders in with them this weekend and they have great yeast. I do regular SMASH beers to get to know a hop 👍Maris otter and citra it’s going to be a blinding beer that. Nice one lads cheers 👍🍻
Thanks mate! Really looking forward to it! The Citra smelt insane, smelt more New Zealand I thought with the lime in it! Have a good week pal 🍻 thanks for tuning in again 👌- Ben
Class duo 👏👏 love the videos
Thanks buddy 🍻 appreciate you tuning in! 🍻
Really enjoying it. Going to try my own MA citra biab small batch. One thing I think would improve the vids are full grain to glass. I would love to see the tasting in the same vid. Keep it coming and ill keep watching!
Thanks mate! We are working are way upto it, trying to get a catalogue of videos and then should enable us to do Grain to Glass 🍻 thanks for tuning in! Appreciate it - Ben
Nice one guys, can’t beat a citra hopped ale. Have you ever tried the beer called ‘Jarl’ from Fyne Ales in Scotland, One of my faves, an absolute belter! Keep up the good work guys!
Thanks for watching buddy! No I haven't tried it - I shall check it out now 👀 Cheers 🍻
Great vid as always. I’ve just got the same seperate mash tun. Just out of interest what grain size grain crush do you get for it? Does fine crush work just lightly crushed? Do you find the bazooka filter clogs on it at all when emptying into your kettle? Cheers.
Thanks mate! Just standard crush on the grain from suppliers. We aren't buying fine crush or crushing ourselves anymore 😊 haven't had any blockage yet, sometimes slow but not fully blocked. 🍻
@@TankardBrewing nice one cheers for the reply. Much appreciated. I’ll do the same and get standard crush and see what happens! 👍
No worries at all mate! Let us know how you get on! Hopefully it stops the clogging 👌🍻
Great video lads. Quick Question. Is the Yeast not meant for secondary fermentation for ales or meads?
It can be used in primary as well - we are planning to bottle condition the beers, and used it in the second brew of the day as well so thought we'd give it a try 👌 we shall see how it turns out! Thanks for watching 🍻
dont get anymore laid back lads else you might fall over! - great entertaining vid!
Thanks mate 🍻
have you tried golden promise yet?
Yes mate, have used it a few times in previous brews - did a TTL landlord clone with it - cracking grain!
Nice one lads 🍺 look forward to seeing how it turns out. Can’t believe the aggro you get from the BrewZilla. Presumably it has a warranty? And that sandwich 🥹🤯
Yes mate it's only 10ish months old, I need to get onto them. Pump has just completely given it - it's not even blocked 🙄🙄 sandwich was incredible 😉 - Ben
