I never realised that the Indian people came from tribes! Those women are wonderful.
India has a huge tribal population with two tribal belts, 1) In North East India where 6 out of 8 states are tribal dominated states and with two other states having significant tribal population.
2) Jharkhand, where a huge population of tribals in mainland India resides.
Apart from the above, each and every state, have their own tribal communities.

The reporter is trying his level best by putting 1000% effort to pull out some racial issues. Actually he is trying to hypnotize these women and control their verdicts.
For people having problem with the asking of their respective tribes.
Well first of all majority of the people giving comments here are from mainland India and belong to casteist society. They must have mistaken a tribe with them caste so some of the find it offensive.
But to remind you that there's no caste in Northeast India. There are only tribes and by "tribe" it doesn't mean anything like caste.
A tribe in Northeast India is not only a distinctly self sufficient cultural ethnic group but also a linguistic group. Each tribe has their own unique and mutually unintelligible language.
So when the reporter asked to which tribe they belong, it was like asking to which linguistic community you belong like whether Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi or Marathi.
All the respective tribes these women belong have their own distinct and rich language.

Naga battalion was in Chhatisgarh and made the naxals dread them. Only complaint against the Naga troopers was that they used to hunt and roast protected wild animals like deer and wild boars while on jungle patrol. LOL. Nagas are some of the most down-to-earth and straight-talking people you would find. They don't have the shrewdness and complexity that we plains people are afflicted with.

Actually the concept of tribe in northeast is quiet different than the central India. Asking someone about the tribe here is like caring to know more about his identity language culture etc. It's not offending instead it's pleasing.

very impressive.. though i have to say that as far as live interviewing especially of the kind that "walk the talk" entails, Shekhar Gupta is woefully inadequate.. he has this nasty, albeit unintentional habit of interrupting people when they are in the middle of a sentence just to show his "knowledge", especially when it comes to anything northeastern.. check out all the other walk the talks.. his monologues are stunted and resemble bursts from a very old AK-47 ... NDTV should replace him

what was need of asking names of tribes? Do we have to have tags of castes/tribes on us all the time.
Tribe is not equivalent to caste. Tribe is a cultural identity as it depicts language, place, etc. Hence, many tribes exist in Nagaland having their own language, food, clothing, festivals, etc. It is a matter of pride for them. Do not mistaken it with your idea of low caste hierarchy. That does not exist among northeastern tribals. I hope you have a clearer understanding of it now.
