Today on the show, we have with us Col. Rajeev Bharwan, an accomplished, professionally trained & result-oriented Indian Army Colonel with 21 Years of progressive higher leadership & management skills while commanding the elite Infantry/ Strategic Specialized Airborne Regiment.
In this fantastic episode, we spoke about the vast on-hand experience of Col. Rajeev in Counter Terrorism, in combat zones in Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and Jammu & Kashmir. One of my favourite podcasts of the year. In an age where American Marines and their British equivalents are celebrated all over the world, it is crucial that Indians get to know about our Commandos as well.
This video (and the podcast that it is derived from) aim to spread the word about the incredible Indian Special Forces.
Thank you to all our brave soldiers, for their contribution to India! Jai Hind!!!
In this clip, Col. Rajeev shares his experience of serving in Manipur.

I have recently come back from Manipur. I was working there. They are the best people so far I have ever met.
They are ethical, decent, and fit people. Especially, the tribals living in the hills like kukis and nagas.
😂😂
😂😂
Actually the main reason for insurgency in Manipur are as follows
1) India Completely ignored the state for many years after joining the Indian union in 1949.
2) Imagine getting downgraded from an ancient independent kingdom to a part-C state, administered by a commissioner. It got full statehood only in 1972.
3) RACISM faced by the people in mainland India.
4) Lack of development funds and connectivity, and some cases of human rights abuse by the security personnels.
But the situation has completely changed now, the insurgency problem is slowly disappearing.
True... past indian governments is to blame... North east people are great
Blame your own politicians. Not on indian government.
@@DB-rl1ih There are things that can be blamed to the local politicians and things that the local politicians are powerless against. Local politicians can't do anything in regard to the central government treating the Northeast region as a buffer zone in the past. It was only after the Indo-China war of 1962 that the central government started taking the Northeast region seriously and only after the 90s or 2000s that the central government started paying attention to infrastructure development.

We do bro ... we all salute our soldiers and every citizen has height level of respect for our soldiers. Jai Hind

They've their rebels group and maoist who ambush on army also they manipulate people towards govt so that bridge btw govt and peoples couldn't be made and they make their own law's so that Chaos be there nd peace shouldn't.
A humble request Ranveer, time to realise we are 8 odd seperate states, tagging whole Northeast and only talk about Manipur is not justified.
You better study history
@@deepjyoti5640 But he has a point. Manipur does not reflect the core issues each State has.
I am interested what you have to say about my people's history.
Have you read it in a book or experienced it ?
You don't need to just say, "you better study history" and just disregard his point. Instead share your ideas and opinions based on facts and help educate each other, because that is the main issue we are facing now. Ignorance.
@@deepjyoti5640 Also, History. Our true heritage and history is not in any educational books. I learned about my people's history through my grandparents experience, my parents experience, my experience.
Which board in the country have a single chapter of our history? During my highschool, not even my own state board had a chapter of our history because it can't compete with the rest of the country.
Won't you call that discrimination over a whole group and heritage of people ?
But that's besides my point.
My point is, if he were to study "history" as you suggested, which book does he need to pick up ? What are the major subjects which he needs to take up which focuses on the NE history and struggles for him to be educated ?
NE is a collection of 8 States, united and share alot of rich culture and loved and protected as sisters. But have their own individual heritage and history and beliefs.
Ignoring that and clumping the 8 States as NE and only focusing on one State in this case, Manipur brings more questions than answers.
To my understanding the original commenter meant to say was, if you want to talk about Manipur, talk about Manipur. But if you bring the whole of NE together, talk about all the whole of NE and not generalise an issue to be the same for each State. The same goes with belief and ideology.
An Example, Mizoram was the first state in the World to be bombed by it's own country.
Yes, NE but not the same history as Manipur or Nagaland or Assam, etc.
Yes True all states should be discussed
Right👍
My humble request to all my brothers and sisters from north east please do not consider yourself different from India.we are united and remain united. We all are proud Indians.
I am from Assam & here we consider ourselves very much as Indians! No question about that!
You're wrong. What I've seen and heard recently on internet is that North East people are way more patriotic than any us folks in other parts of India.
I would never trust patriotism from a woke liberal from mumbai or bangalore. But i will any day trust the patriotism from north east people.
Kya mazak he
It’s not us it’s you considering Northeast as other part
The fact is that even other Indians don't consider northeast Indians as Indians. Otherwise terms like chinki would never have existed 🤣🤣
Ranveer just a small request please do change the title of the video to "why manipur people didn't consider themselves as Indians" . The present title 'don't consider' is a bit misleading and might have negative(obviously unwanted) impact on anyone who just sees the thumbnail and not the whole video!!
Totally agree it is ignorant at best

As a northeastern the ethics that i (we) live n die for remains. Sets us apart. Hope NE continues to inculcate this legacy of respect towards women children n family , n pass on the next generation of northeasterns .
This is because Manipur was a sovereign Kingdom before India's independence and during the formation of the country, Manipur was initially not involved and was to remain as sovereign Kingdom. But was forced to join so that's why there are many rebellions because even after joining , we were not recognised enough and were treated horribly . There are many opinions about the kabaw valley (in modern day Myanmar) which belonged to Manipur and was exchanged by Jawaharlal Nehru for Andaman and Nicobar as it is historically more connected to India and will serve as better use . I don't know if this is true but this is what our elders has told us since we were young also ,this story has not been discussed or confirmed . Considering the current situation of 2023 , there are going to be more insurgents rising . Honestly, i don't want to support any of the insurgency or forcing a king to sign the merger agreement . Lastly, i think that I am happy in which country i belong to and proud to be Indian . Don't stereotype that all northeast Indians want to seperate away from India , that people are probably extremists and most of us are happy that we get to be an Indian. (Comment for educational purpose only )
Awesome experience you've got sir... And facts too 💯
Absolutely revealing & stunning - the 2nd part & till the end. 👍👍👍
1. Title should have been "Soldier's experience in Manipur". I think the period he is talking about here is late 90s and early 2000s and he was probably posted in valley region of Manipur(Because he mentioned Thabal Chongba, the dance). Also, experiences in valley and hilly areas might be completely different.
2. I think when he came to Manipur in this period, there had been recently the ban of Hindi movies in theaters. Before this, there were Hindi movies shown in theaters. (I heard stories of elder people talking about blockbusters like Sholay in Manipuri theaters) In my opinion, the ban was a good thing for Manipuri cinema because people started watching them instead of Hindi pictures which was dominating the cinemas.
3. He did not explain the REASON of insurgency in Manipur here. He was telling his experience. And about people feeling sense of "power" with
guns on their hands, the issue or reason of this conflict is not that simple. Many insurgents joined these groups because of trauma of near ones died in this conflict or they were being tortured by the military.
4. More interesting questions should have been asked in this podcast. There was no need to sensationalize the story here. Col. Rajeev's life story is interesting and inspiring by itself.
Even In the 90s , maximum indians don't even know NE india exist ( not to blame all ,because there were few who we're really good ) . We are talking about about educated Indians , forget about the rural Indian .
When the militants were imposing banns here in NE , we were still hoisting India's flag and singing national anthem in our school during 15Aug and 26 Jan..
So tell everyone don't bullsh*t us about Nationalism .. You cannot blame and buly and harrased the entire population just because few 100 numbers of militants caused you trouble.
The Indian army has caused tremendous harm and hatred and atrocities to the innocent civilian of NE using AFSPA which has caused the people to hate them and other Non-resident of NE specially the business class people who looted the innocent NE people through their business monopolistic character .
@@Mr.BR15As a North Indian, i agree and I feel really sorry about this. What you're telling is correct and not doubt human rights violations must be there. But situation is changing now. People are more aware about NE.
As a Meetei, I feel the comment about our animosity towards India because of a lack of awareness is caused by a lack of awareness about us as a whole. A lot of us don't give a shit about whether we are part of India or not. We just care about our state and people. When you consider the atrocities committed by the Indian army not only towards us, but the North-East as a whole, you can see why a lot of people would be angry. The forced implementations of Hindi also doesn't help. It was mandatory for upto the 8th standard, but now it's upto the 10th. Until and unless the govt accepts the fact that people don't want their language or culture to go away, insurgence will still be a thing.
Great👍,we dont care whether we r in.... or not
And Meitei imposing also won't help in Manipur

It would be great if Manipuris and people of the North East come forward and explain their perspective behind this insurgency and their feelings.
The root cause I believe stems from the 'wrongful' annexation of Manipur into India. There are tons of articles on how Maharaja Bodhachandra was forced to sign the Instrument of Accession under pressure. I believe armed insurgency began in the late 60s Or early 70s when step motherly treatment was given to Manipur by New Delhi. In the early days their insurgency was supported by the masses because it was about freedom and self determination and it resonated with the people. These days the majority of people don't support these groups as today they have strayed from their path and started doing extortion, terrorism, kidnapping, gun and drug smuggling. I honestly think the Indian Army can flush these insurgents out but they won't cause they have a lot to benefit if insurgency flourish in Manipur.
If a Manipuri explains even peacefully s/he will be forced arrested under some stupid charges. History on mainland is wrong, Manipur was annexed by forced but voluntary then Nehru gifted a large valley - Kabaw valley to Myanmar without asking Manipur and India hasn’t explain a bit about this.
@@thembasapam7838Hyderabad , junagadh , j&k also forcefully annexed in India with army
@@aniket1638 so you agree that insurgency is valid and good step??🤔🤔

Title is misleading and could be dangerous for image of India.
RANVEER PLEASE NEVER DO SUCH KIND OF MISTAKES. INDIA FIRST. DIE FOR INDIA'S INTEGRITY. WORK FOR INDIA'S INTEGRITY. INDIA IS A IDEOLOGY, A EMOTION WHICH TEACHES THAT WORLD IS A FAMILY(VASUDEV KUTMUMBAKAM). DON'T DO SUCH SILLY THINGS FOR CLICKBAIT. SHAMEFUL ACT.

Just within a minute of watching, I can already find mistakes and biases in his words.
Manipur then and now are very different. It would not be correct to bring up the past to weigh the present situation. Manipur is a state where there are more than 20% people from outside the state. Biharis, punjabis, haryanvis, marwaris, bengalis, tamils, you name it.. You can find them there. Now who would ask you "are you indian?" I'm sorry but you are either trying to add masala to your story or just a confident blatant liar.
Again, no hindi books? Man.. Hindi is compulsory till 8th std and there are thousands who still opt hindi after that. There are many books and hindi movies sold in the markets. Hindi channels were the only ones shown during those days DD1 or DD2..
Now tell me, why does he have to start with such a wrong premise? One can only imagine.

This is a two way affair of ignorance and negligence .There is lack of belongings among some sections of North East Indian People due to lack of close interactions and negligence along with remoteness of distance ,differences of cultures. Adding to that the attitudes of Mainland Indians towards fellow NE Indians is regrettable and shameful. They refuse to consider them as Indians because of looks, cultures etc and humiliation is common occurrence. Let alone among public even Government Officials are shockingly ignorant of their existence. Hope one single incident will suffice, at New Delhi International Airport a Manipuri Woman delegate was told by Officials that she don't look like Indian by looking at her Indian Passport.
She would have to reply to the official, you mean I don't look like a black person ?.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Oversimplification at the best. I don’t blame him. He had a job and he did it. Lack of honesty and political will at the start of independent India led to this. Being part of Indian armed forced, Colonel is not in position to reveal real reason of insurgency in Manipur. I can understand that easily. Not knowing Hindi is not strange thing in India. Tamils dont know Hindi, is this strange? If Govt of India play with sentiments of local and keep avoiding and ignoring them, definitely differences will start pop out between govt and locals. Once independent kingdom, later joined to India as "ignored state", obviously locals feel insecure and get feeling of ignorance. And on top of that if govt uses forces to silent the voices and few security personnel uses ASFPA to rape women and kill innocent, it will be like pouring petrol on fire.
THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO CLAIM TO HAVE LIVED IN MANIPUR AND SPREADING HATRED HERE. If you want RESPECT, respect others first, as simple as that. Most non-native people who come and settle here NEVER interact, participate, show interest and respect the culture, lifestyle and all And yet they're gere commenting THIS and THAT. Moreover, some people here asking what's the reason and why for insurgency, you gotta dig a bit Deeper to the history of this state. If you're someone who's Never or hardly heard the name of Manipur other than Mary Kom, then you're not FIT to comment. Your attempts to sanskritise Arunachal is already failing, fabricated stories of "Rukmini is from Arunachal", attempts to Hinduise Rangfraa is fooling nobody anymore.
❤️❤️❤️
which state you are from ?
People's talking about NE they even dnt now what's north east so do you want talk with full knowledge of it
Mor, what is it about? If the Sikhs, Rajputs, and greatly Marathas, did not fight back and bring down mughal empire...you all will have long beards now...do you get it?
@@toholisema4u Let's not forget in NE, Ahoms resisted the Mughals..
There was no help from Rajputs (who aided Mughals), Sikhs or "great Marathas"
What is North East please tell us?
Tell us that North East is united and there are no Inter-tribal wars among the tribes there.
We know about the North East brother, it's not like qe don't know. People are well aware these days
@@abhishek.chakraborty Almost all Ahoms are found in Assam and I don't think they had separatist feelings against the Indian Union. So don't drag them in. The problems mostly lied in Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram. Fortunately most problems have been shorted our.
@@toholisema4u He just said, most of the Indians are not aware of the North East. So It's useless to bring in the topic of Rajpoots, Sikhs and the Mughals.
Brother
There is a history relation between how Hinduism was spread across Manipur( there is a whole story/topic about it)
, from then the fight between the indigenous manipuri people called as meetei and bishnupriyas (hindus) came into existence
From what I've heard Bishnupriya are indigenous people and Meitei are Burmese immigrants who first sought refuge and slowly started to annex the region . The King of cachar was assassinated by Meitei immigrants
@@therapeuticsoundsofnature2006 I'm sorry to tell you but i think what you've heard is from wikipedia and it is very likely that the information is wrong.
@@therapeuticsoundsofnature2006 Bisnupuriyas migrated from BENGAL
Meiteis give refuge to Bengali refugees and then they later claimed to be indegineous
@@therapeuticsoundsofnature2006 The theory that Meiteis are Burmese who Invaded Manipur is created by British which Bisnupuriyas still believe in. Meiteis fought the Burmese from time to time. Meiteis have protected every community and now they are being portrayed as an Invaders. What a Hipocricy. Watch Abhijit Chavda say about this
Nothing aginst manipur fighting for justice is good. But Two requests dont break my country and Don't harm innocents..
Nobody is trying to harm innocents here. There's a thing called, "give respect and get respect". Just stop racism to Northeast people and see how fast the situation changes. It is already starting to change now, militancy is almost getting erased in Manipur.
Again the title is misleading
Don't misguide people by saying 'North east ' ,north east is composed of 7 states and manipur is one of them. So if you're talking about manipur then kindly mention 'manipur ' only. Don't drag other 6 states. I'm from Assam. And I'm proud to be an indian ❤
@Abraham ka kata lawda fool saying
@Abraham ka kata lawda RIP to your knowledge
@Abraham ka kata lawda it is but assamse people are waking up.

Good for you
Recently army officers with family killed near manipur
Recently 10 innocent civilians were killed by army.
The insurgent group issued apologies saying they didn’t know family was there and were traveling in military convoy. Just saying what they said, take is as it is.
@@bhagwancapitalism1057 you better remove bhagavan from your pseudo name but should add another insurgent here to justify treason and insurgency.

First of all, I would like to applaud the channel for at least making the effort to initiate conversation and chatter on such a controversial topic. However, like many people have mentioned, the title is very misleading. The North East is more than just Manipur and the Colonel here is only recounting his experience. His word based on his perspective as an armyman cannot and should not be accepted as the sole truth. Therefore, the 'reason' mentioned is unjustifiable.
To the Colonel, I think he deserves some appreciation for trying to present the situations from three points of view. However, I do not agree with him that people are unaware and they are being manipulated into thinking a certain way. I think that is a very dismissive attitude which no one likes. Also, to just casually attribute militancy to young people wanting to hold guns and feel 'raw sense of power' is highly ignorant and dangerous. It might be true for some but the roots of underground militancy did not start that way. It would have been a good idea to try and talk about the origin of militancy based on informed research. By the way, this is not to mean I or everyone supports these militant groups. I don't. There must be and has to be better ways to reach an understanding. More importantly, a blanket comment saying people do not feel like a part of India should be followed with a very measured and clear explanation. His statement is true to some extent but there are also people like myself who would rather try to find an agreeable solution within the idea of a unified India.
Marked as misleading
What's misleading??

The truth is if any jawans has done something wrong or any misdeeds then as a punishment he is put in assam rifles n sent to Manipur ... n what he does is take out the revenge by beating n killing people of manipur - their headquarters of assam rifles manipur was removed by 8 to 9 naked woman asking them to rape them - because they raped a girl who was in their custody - assam rifles is the most unprofessional people
The title is misleading.. these guys did not discuss about the reason behind the insurgency at all....
We remember, what did by indian army in Assam at the time of ULFA.😡
I am so glad to have found this video and channel. Such an interesting take. This is Joe Rogan level of interview.
Hindi movies and all are still ban.....many things are still ban
Today in 2024 hindi movies are still ban in manipur and there is not even a movie Hall or pvr
Make North East a seperate Republic just like Taiwan, we will prosper faster and munch of problems will cease to exist both for Northeast and India.
China likes ur comment😁
What's up man?
The reason why there has been insurgency in the Northeast is because of the merger agreements, both with British India and The Republic of India were done without any proper plebiscite.
And the most significant thing was that the Central Indian Government continued the system of exploitation of resources without any giving any profit to the North East that began with the British.
I have heard that naga people defeated indian army was this truth?
Fortune favours the Brave
Nepalese language is most spoken language after hindi in Indian military
Lack of awareness, in North East india? When our whole education system revolves around Indian history, geography & everything related to India, how can you simply call the North -eastern issues 'lack of awreness'? Lack of awareness is when an Indian doesn't even know where Nagaland,Manipur,Assam,Meghalaya ,Mizoram,Tripura,Arunachal Pradesh & sikkim is situated or even a part of india, leave aside our history!
I agree with AR officer but some point he is misleading some information
