At the same time it doesn't look like it's a fair comparison. The other kayaks are loaded up with crab pots and a lot more stuff; as well as just not getting a good launch.
Hi Magnus… what your saying is definitely true, but at the same time, it’s always going to be easier to launch a Stealth in the surf compared to a peddle kayak no matter how it’s loaded. The Stealth weighs half as much as the Hobie, it accelerates much quicker, and it cuts through waves and chop way better than a peddle kayak. Mentally, it’s so much easier to launch in the surf when all of your gear is stored inside the kayak.🎣😃
During the summertime, I wear a 2mm Farmer John style wetsuit and 3mm neoprene boots. In the wintertime, I wear an NRS Ultra John Wetsuit, which is a 3mm farmer John wetsuit for a little extra warmth.
For my revo, when I surf launch a have 2 of the rail blaza G-holds mounted on the side, which I strap the rods down into so they lay horizontale and then I rig up out the back. Or if im only taking 2 rods, if its a sealed reel, Ill have have the rod setup and strapped on like I normally do. Never lost any gear like that.
I once flipped my Revo 13 in really shallow surf and broke three Phenix fishing rods, because I stupidly had them secured vertically in the Hobie H-Crate. It’s always smarter to use your method and secure the rods horizontally.🎣😃
@@losthorizonfishing107 damn, I'm guessing those aren't cheap. I'm from Australia, we only have a few main rod brands, that everyone sticks to. Definitely hands down the best mod I've done to the kayak. As well as the rod rack. Those clamps have saved my rods so many times. I got the 75mm and the 55mm, rod but goes in the 75 and the tip in the 55. It's adjustable and you can either put 1 -4 rods in comfortably. I only take 3 max.
I was so bummed out when that happened. And of course it happened on the launch, so I didn’t even get to go fishing! Haha.. I felt like a loser doing the walk of shame pulling my kayak with broken fishing rods back to my truck. That was the incident that got me fired up to purchase the Stealth.🎣😃
@drop stix yeah, I've tried. Not the biggest Alvey fan, but thanks for the idea. I only use mine off the kayak for snapper, bream, ect. Most alveys don't have a drag, unless you go the more expensive one . Unfortunately, Alvey brand is dead and the prices have gone through the roof. If you want another one, grab it now, before the prices keep going up.
@@losthorizonfishing107 I got a bit under a mile out, before realising crap I'm sinking and had to make a run for the beach. Now that was a walk of shame passing past everyone that were still loading up their kayak.
I have a Hobie Outback - but I don't travel with it and launch from a dock in a harbor, so it works fine for me. But, if I was going to head to San Diego or Bolsa Chica to surf-launch, I'd definitely think of the stealth! Clearly the gear storage and shape provides much cleaner ocean access through the surf. I do miss your older videos on your other kayak fishing for sand bass, but your range with the new kayak has opened up new areas, and those videos are really great!
As a convert from a Hobie I can confirm, the Stealth is the ultimate surfing kayak.
Exactly why i sold my Hobie Revo and bought a Stealth!
