“Finish the grind to start playing” That is the problem with people who burn out, don’t grind to achieve a goal, its the journey to that goal that matters more than achieving the goal itself. For example: remember back in the day how excited you were when you achieved 40 attack and realized you can now equip rune weaponry? Or nowadays you achieve higher attack for higher weaponry and then you don’t even care for the skill anymore, so you passively get it to 99 and don’t even feel excited for it, because the 99 doesn’t matter anymore, only to fill a checkbox because thats one step to max an account. My advice? - don’t be afraid to take the long road to achieve your goals or mix things up, do obscure methods and don’t always be effecient, try new things and I guarantee, that if you honestly try your best to do that and not grind one method endlessly(unless you enjoy that, personally I sometimes enjoy that too) - you won’t burn out that easily!

@@BobbiPhantom Yeah, I watched a video today, which said that before the launch of osrs, we didn't know how to play Runescape2... I would go so far as to say - ever since the launch of osrs, we have forgotten how to play the game and have fun just because its fun. Although, at the very start - it wasn't like that. People were more of a community then. I would know, I was actually playing right after they announced and released it, hah.

Just found your channel recently but your videos are great. I've gotten burnt out a lot, both on rs as well as many other similar games. Definitely agree that it's important to play or do other things at least some too, as to not get burnt out. I've kinda started following a system for myself where when I first get on my pc for the day to play games. I'll usually start by playing something more focused/less afkable such as league(if I feel like playing it), and then once I start to get tired of that(or tilted), I'll then get on rs or something else. This seems to be helping me combat the sort of fatigue you mentioned where I otherwise might at some point be like "ugh why am I even playing this", since I'd otherwise be constantly playing rs. I think it helps too to try to relax a bit when playing and not worry too much about efficiency, which I used to be bad about mentally. Otherwise it'll likely feel like a chore when you feel like you *have* to constantly login and play so that you dont lose that potential "efficiency". If you've played retail WoW in the past few years, you'll know what I mean full well as that game has slowly but surely transitioned its design model to that exact "chore" mentality. Aka being coerced into logging in constantly to do your long list of seemingly pointless dailies.

Good video, uploaded around the right time for me too as I’m slowly grinding Herblore for quest requirements and it’s wank.
Something I like to do though is write a list of short term and long term goals to achieve so if finding myself stuck of something to do, look at this list and start progressing towards an objective. Once you’ve completed something you’ve wanted to do like that it’s a sense of accomplishment and perks you up for the next thing.

      @MCshadr217 4 роки тому

Exactly this. My goal is the quest Cape as well, and because it comes with a long term goal plus other minor long term goals (actually getting high enough construction to start setting up my house is one of them), as well as a lot of short term goals, it easily spreads them out. Will do slayer here, hunter there, con for a bit, maybe some herblore. always mixing it up so I never get boredm

Dude building the alt is such a good tip. I'm working on maxing but hate doing AFK content and I don't really enjoy sweaty methods for anything other than bossing. I've been building a rune dragon alt for the past little bit now and have never made so much progress on my main for afk skills. It also feels good to have a lower level account that doesn't take 4+ hours to get one level in your lowest skill. XP comes in slower but slow consistent xp is better than fast xp where you burn out quickly.
10/10 would recommend building out an alt to do more fun content while working on maxing a main.

  • @Tylerjrb

I think friends on osrs is a big one. It’s always nice to log on and see a friend you can boss with or just chill out and chat and skill with. Gets quite lonely and boring on your own. I have burned out many times but that’s down to not having enough time to put into the game at this point in my life and wanting to do/play other games when I get the chance. I still play a few hours a week though.

  • @MCshadr217
    @MCshadr217 4 роки тому +1

I've also found setting a high goal with multiple requirements is something to help space things out too. Like mine right now is the quest Cape, which requires hours of grinding every skill. Only 8 more skills to go. I've also been doing quests and bossing on the side when I found grinding too much, as well as other fun content. It all leads to that Cape, so it all works out.

Getting the quest cape and diaries was one of the ways I alleviated burn out myself, for a time anyway. I recently got back into it and I still have to finish up the song of the elves (got to the seren fragment before I had to go to work) and the fremmenik exiles quest and I get it back. The cape is also amazing for a discount con cape as well I used it on a daily basis.

    Easier to not burn out:
Set EHP goals, not XP goals.
Not sure I would recommend CML as some of their ads are distasteful lately.
Whenever you find yourself doing a bank-standing skill like crafting, herblore(assuming you're not doing EHP Herblore rates) try and set up an alt to make money on the side. I find Rune Dragons , Wyverns, or even some other semi-afk alt keeps your mind floating, which allows you to enjoy the game while your main progresses with it's AFK xp. Another skill you can play alts and keep efficient rates would be agility as well! Anytime you have the chance to 3-tick, 2-tick, or 1-tick a skill... You should. Too much AFK will burn you out, as it will make you just see RuneScape as a cookie clicker game. Not playing alts as well on the AFK grinds will also give you the AFK Heroes vibe.
If you don't even want to commit to fully leveling an alt up, currently Oak Trees are 200K+ GP/h in F2P ... Combo that with something like crafting/agi you can get a lot of passive gp, passive mind power, and inevitably 99 crafting 😎

My anti burn out, at least for me isnt based so much on high level maxing but the whole early to mid-late grind where bossing is minimal and skilling is unoptimised is training for quest and diaries.
My main goal from level 3 was to get a quest cape, i finally got one and had base 70 stats and all the medium diaries done, now im going for all hard diaries and its made me get my combat to 100, and a lot of skills past 70.
Not to mention a lot of other things, i also want to get all XP boosting outfits, and graceful recolour. Having the mini goals for me is really keeping me going with no fatigue and by the time i have done all the hard or elite diaries my account will be great for bossing and ill have a solid foundation in all my skills.
I burned out back in 2007 as i was one of those accounts that only ever really trained combat and one skill and got burned out but now my account is well rounded i am loving every part of it.

I can confirm. The only reason I maxed in OSRS was because I made an ironman. When grinding out the boring afk skills on my main, I made great progress on my ironman. And when I had to do something more active on my main to max, I afked on my ironman and stocked up on fish or some shit.

I know this vid is quite a few months old but if anyone reads this try
-do a couple of medium clues
    -kill Vorkath a couple times
-then kill Zulrah a couple times
    -maybe do a farm run
    -one skill level a day
-magic xp at Mm2 caves for an hour
There’s a lot to do in OSRS...

yeah alot of the stuff you mentioned I do like when im waiting for a match in overwatch it can take like 10 mins sometimes so I play osrs on the side or I play on my alt for fun and do slayer since its my favorite skill since its pretty diverse while my main I just do a boring skill like agility.

Making an iron man is a good option if you haven't done so yet. It's like replaying the game because you have to take steps you have never done. You are also excluded from the botched economy of 2020 Runescape.

I have a very strange burnt out thing, i level a skill to 99 and start slayer and get burnt out then i take a break for a few months get more 99s and repeat. This “session” i got 3 99s and going to try agility now, i cant play without objectives and slayer seems to be a eternal grind, hope i can achieve atleast 93 this time.

What's wrong with burning out? Go ahead, burn out, take a hiatus and then come back when you're feeling into it again. I tend to let my membership lapse right about this time of the year usually anyway because I'm usually out doing other things (over the summer) the only reason I'm playing right now is because of the lockdown. Usually I'm out playing golf (which you can still do in this area) but today it's raining and I've been hitting that pretty heard I need to give my body a break. I guess what I'm saying is that even if you DO burn out, it doesn't have to be forever, you can come back whenever you're feeling up to it.

My advice is get to the point where you can make a bond’s worth in a couple hours (like zalcano) and then play however you want and however long you want for the rest of the 2 weeks. Some days I’ll log in and do like 4 sweaty hours of ardy knights. Other days I’ll do 1 game of barb assault or fish for 15 minutes or do an easy quest and log.
At the end of the day, no one is holding a gun to your head or even paying you to play, so why fight the feeling of being burnt out? Enjoy yourself, there are a lot of things that are supposed to feel like chores like washing dishes and doing laundry, but playing a video game shouldn’t be one of them lol

I've been trying to Max for just over 16 years. I'm the closest I've ever been with my first 99 a few years ago and have around 14 99s now. With the goal of maxing this year. What he says is true. Most people want to just get maxed and everyone is at the baseline of being already maxed. I hear frequently nowadays that maxing isn't really impressive anymore as so many people are maxed. Well it is to the people who aren't maxed nor ever been maxed. For me it is a bucket list item of mine to max. Once I do, I'm going to throw a freakin party. I don't believe in the saying "Its not about the destination but the journey." in the context of a video game, because its 100% about the destination. But I do see what they mean now that I'm getting closer. Good luck to all who are in the same boat as me.

Make sure you have a linked in profile. Keep your resume updated. Pretty much apply for every single IT job you can find. And even if it’s not something you particularly want your career to be, if it’s related to the IT field, a foot in the door goes a long way. And I’m sure you’ll learn something you didn’t know before.

I feel like my burning out is due to the frustrations of using the vanilla client. I really think the qol benefits from a client like runelite would keep me in the game longer and keep me from burning out but I am afraid that, if banned, the use of a 3rd party client would make getting unbanned difficult. If I lost all the hours I have put into my account and had to restart I don't think I could ever bring myself to play the game again.
