Why are they using him out of position? He's not a speed rusher. He's a DT, not a DE. His specialty is against the run.
they use him there because he's not big or strong enough to defend the run from the gut . that's where you will face more double teams. In the NFL he will most likely switch to DE. he would be a poor DT in the NFL

i dont understand the hype on this guy saw him play probably 5 games live then videos like this reminds me of jonathan allen of alabama ALWAYS THE LAST GUY OFF ON THE SNAP thats so frustrating because u see him once he gets going hes a very good athlete. and when he does get off the snap its slow and with no punch or violence he just walks towards the o lineman lets him grab him then uses what looks like a strong punch to disengage good short yard lateral quickness.frustrating player to watch cuz has the physical ability just not the drive or mentality to be great 3rd or 4th round just off athletic ability maybe just needs better coaching hope the light comes on cuz theres something there
+dave savard Yeah don't see the Aaron Donald comparisons at all. His tape is uneven similar to Kawann Short from Purdue who developed into a very good player but went in the 2nd round.
+JPDraftJedi I see potentially dominant player. Hate that you can really tell though because he takes so many plays off. When he goes 100% he looks like a beast and uses his hands very well.
I don't think he takes plays off. A lot of plays in the video are going away from him. You do though see the potential he has. Your right about his hands, he got some pack in his punch. He does show some good agility. A Donald is a freak I wouldn't do the comparison, but I do really like Rankins. Put him on a D-line with other studs, Rankins will be a beast.

Def not his best tape. He looks out of position. Why do they have him at DE? He needs to be 1 gapping in a 4-3 at DT. He also needs a big NT next to him. If he can get stronger at the POA he can be really good. uses his hands well be don't see much violence
