Thanks for sharing this video = so great to see Magic and Bird reflect on this game and you can see the great respect they have for each other! Michigan State had the better team as Greg Kelser played 7 seasons before a career ending knee injury. Jay Vincent played for the Dallas Mavericks for 10 seasons and Ron Charles was drafted to the Bulls in 1980. I believe Carl Nicks ( from the ISU team) played in the CBA and then was on the Utah Jazz for 1 season. Bird although being double covered this game did manage 13 rebounds and 5 steals but MSU was too much talent. This game was must see TV because ISU was expected to lose early on in the NCAA tournament but somehow kept winning games. The question was - could ISU pull off the impossible dream? Thanks again.
This is absolutely awesome! I have never seen this before and so glad you put this up for everyone! So wild seeing how young they were when they 1st started and seeing it from each 1's perspective and what they were going through to get that far!
Magic and Bird created the modern NBA. Not Jordan. Jordan was just what the NBA decided to market. If you don't have Bird and Magic you don't have something to market. Jordan was a scorer primarily. Bird and Magic were something completely different. Their rivalry allowed the NBA to expand. If you don't have them you don't have a Dream Team. You don't have NBA expansion. The problem is this, Bird and Magic played a different game than today's NBA game. It was a total team game. It wasn't about 3 point scoring even though Bird could do that. I'd rather watch any game of the 1980's than any current game today. The game today is just not interesting to watch.
Bird is still the better all around player and Magic was one of the greatest himself. Bird had no future NBA stars on that Sycamore team. Michigan State had top shelf recruits and four future NBA players. I can’t imagine anyone but Bird being able to accomplish that feat with that group of players.
Omg whoever uploaded this. Thank you! Been dying to watch this again! 😂 I remember I watched this the night before a game against my former jr high teammate who was considered “better” 😂 🤦♂️ so after I watched this I couldn’t wait to get on the court the next day. We won and I dropped 25. 💪 5 3’s 😂 the good ole days. Again, thank you! 🙏
Its funny how magic says we had so much respect not just for the team but larry basically saying they understand the team is shit but they play good with larry lol
Indiana States team was hardly a shit team, and I'm an MSU fan. They were a great team, you don't go 33-0 and not be that great. ISU just ran into a college team with a cluster of NBA bound talent on it. Four MSU players had time in the NBA. A few others played professionally in Europe. Judd Heathcote could really recruit.
Magic had a massive edge in the game saying birds team was the best team just isnt true it was only good because he was on it nobody except larry made nba on birds team magic had a few nba players on his it was basically larry take on a group of superstars but typically through larry basketball years thats basically what he did

Magic was right- the game after another 40 years plus is still the highest rated game ever!
20:55 No 3 point line!

Facts & truth hurt when they don’t go your way! You & Larry bird might want to keep that in mind!
@@morrisparrish76 obviously you can’t handle the facts or the truth.

It’s so difficult to remember basketball before Bird/Magic. This game and their careers. Really did change the game 😂

Finally!! A Bird video that I haven't seen! What a couple of dudes! Competitive, gracious, intelligent and funny!
Glad you enjoyed it. My dad recorded this when it aired and I’ve held on to it since.
