Superbly 'iconoclastic', and dangerous, lecture: as are Roger Scruton's views on beauty. Imagine what would happen if, having spent millions of pounds on their collections of contemporary 'art', future people with money were to wake up to the realisation that much of it is ugly, and demanded a low set of skills. What if the financial bottom were to fall out of that elitist market? It would be akin to the slow realisation that covid is not lethal!
By saying that the likes of Jackson Pollock and Cy Twombly had to study to make their art, this lecturer gives them credit for some sort of intentionality that really ought not to be granted
Wonderful lecture by this fascinating and globally important artist.
This lecture was a joy, it's rewarding to see an artist embrace the aesthetic for once.

And telling the truth is NOT necessary anymore, said the editor of The Times back in the 80s.
I would like to hear Clive do a lecture, actually.
This guy is my hero
