    Very impressive video. Out of all the videos that I’ve seen, none reveal the what’s going on beneath the power head and head. Great job...and thanks for clearing it up for the person who wondered really what went on above the lower unit...and you did it all in a simplistic way!

    Thanks! The water pipe gasket was so old in our motor that the whole pipe fell off when I changed impeller. I wondered where the pipe attached. This helped a lot!

    Great video. Makes me understand what´s going on in my motor without getting dirty hands :)
    Appreciate it pretty much.

    Thank you. I just finished a 24 hour river catfish tournament. The river conditions were post-flood with lots of debris. By the end of it, my motor was barely peeing, but still running very well. This video explains why, thank you very much. Now to go clean the pee tube.

    Good video.
    I would love to see a video like this with the bigger engines that have thermostats and poppet or pressure control valves (PVCs). Other videos are telling me an overheating problem I am having with my 1998 Yamaha 115 2 stroke might be related to the thermostats (that restrict flow out of the engine until water reaches a certain temperature) or the PVC that lets higher pressure water out once the boat is running at higher speeds and pumping more water. So I am (and others are) interested in learning where the thermostats and PVC fit into that more complicated engine's water path.

    Awesome videos man! I have some questions and I would be super grateful if you gave me your 2 cents... Backstory: I just picked up a 1989 Suzuki DT4. Great compression, runs good, gears work fine. Wasn't pumping water though. Initially, I put my hand under the tell tale and felt pulsating air coming out. Pulled the water pump (using your other video, thanks!!!), inspected everything (pump looked ok), then ran some warm soapy water through the passages to try and clear any debris out. Everything seemed clear. Put it back together and started her up in a bucket and she pumps water again after about 5-ish seconds. I'm a little confused as to what's going on here. Did I inadvertently clear a blockage? Or could there be a crack that is letting exhaust gases out the tell-tale? Or maybe something else? I was wondering if you had any ideas. Thanks!

      Hi there... Have You fixed the problem..? I have the same issue.. Hot air insted water....

    • @Venomrs4
      @Venomrs4 3 роки тому

      @@blimited9053 I did figure it out. Two things: I believe the thermostat was not working even though it looked good. I replaced it. And it turns out these outboards are very sensitive to water depth. The water pump housing itself (not the water intake) *the actual housing itself in the lower unit* needs to be well below the water line. Check those two things and you should be fine. If your water pump and thermostat are good and you put the engine in a tank with deep enough water....it will pump.

      @@Venomrs4 Yeah... I just do not know where the termostat is located..? And... it is a long shaft motor and I think well underwater-- Thank you for your time.. Im getting nervous feeling the closenest of solution.. :)

      Well after removing the head and cleared all passages still the same.. What I found is that exost preassure overcomes water preassure so when I took off rubber cover from the side it starts tell tell water flowing just fine.. My motor was too deep in the water so it was overfilled inside.. enough for exost preassure to find his way thry tell tell instead going down.. now Im gonna lift a motor a bit and probably drill some alternative holles under the water level for exost air.. Must improvise a bit.. ;)

    I'm hoping someone else has asked you about this issue.
    Blowback from the exhaust preventing pump from sending water up the tube to the motor.
    Apparently this is a major issue with this motor, and one that Suzuki Support's solution for (at one point)was to drill out the two vent holes on the exhaust to a larger size.
    I've done that, and it was marginally successful, but I'm not convinced it's the answer.
    I found an Oil Seal that goes on the pump housing, that another owner talked about, and am going to see if I can change that over the winter, but I'm hoping you have a better solution, or can tell me that the oil seal replacement will fix the problem.

      I drilled out the holes to the next size, helped a little. What made difference was a new impellor, during install I sprayed silicone lube inside pump housing. It's pumping like never before. So drilling out holes it helped but was not the fix as I plugged up one of the holes and it's still pumping strong.

    There is also a chamber on the botom of the head.. (half moon shape cover with two bolts)
    Connected with a small holles on two sides..
    I have the same issue and just after a while there is no water just a hot air..
    How this chamber afects cooling and exost system couse there is a connection..
    Can you answer please...

    Me answer my question.. I have the same motor. The pee tube/hose was broke off when I got the motor. The little plastic tube that gos in Cooling area on block that the tube hooks to is snapped off. Do I have to take the power head off I’m order to get it out and install the new one? Thanks

    So if you're impeller is working but you're tell tell is clogged your engine will still be cooled by water coming out the exhaust???????? Is that correct thanks old 67 merc 6 hp

    I just bought a little boat with a DT6 on it. The propeller doesnt have an exhaust like the bigger ones. So I wanted to know where on the exterior it sucks in water, and where it comes out? PS. First time boat owner

      Inlet is little grate right above the prop. There are also drain/prime holes in the side above the vent plate

    On Honda 10 hp with lower extension housing removed and temp water supply hooked up, with water on and flowing is there water to be coming out of the exhaust tube?

    Where is the thermostat?? I added a telltale to a force 50 hp. It is just before the stat. With water leaving the engine before thermos will that cause a problem. Seems to be ok.

    my yamaha 15 hp when i run my boat fast why the water cooler system dont come out but when slow water come please help me thank you form Thailand

    • @StagArmslower
      @StagArmslower 5 років тому

      It maybe blown head gasket or exhaust gasket leaking allowing gases to push against water pump pressure(leaking one way). I had it on My Chrysler 15hp motor; on slow speed I had water coming out from the tell tail hole but at high speed water stopped flowing an I had smoke coming instead plus motor was overheating. The raised edges on exhaust cover cut the gasket around mounting screws and gases pushed cooling water back toward the pump

    If my outboard is spitting out water from the exhaust in my 1990 evinrude 8 2 stroke, do you think I have a blown head gasket? The tell tale is working just fine, it just seems to be running hot.

    I was today years old when I realized that boat engines are cooled by sea water, which now seems incredibly obvious.
