  • Hi all. In this (kinda lengthy) video I attempt to get the Futaba FP-T 2F radio going that came with a vintage Tamiya Rough Rider I bought recently. After replacing the receiver battery holder and making an adapter for the transmitter battery holder, it didn't work after all. The transmitter turns on, the servos move a tad when the power is turned on but the system doesn't actually work. Pretty disappointing as it would have been nice to have a unit of it's vintage that is also functional. Not to worry, I'm sure others will come along.
    Enjoy!

I just acquired one of these used but with all the packaging, manual, and two unused servos. It came with a 1983 Tamiya Brat I got off Craigslist for $20 from a lovely old man who was mostly into RC planes. The huge antenna is very funny. I was shocked that the car runs, and rather well, with this controller.

That's a great find, and with the Brat all for $20. You gotta be happy with that! Even better, it all works and the Brat runs. You did very well there! 🙂👍

      @@williesforeal9979 I don't really have a good idea of it's value. But I'd say over US$100.

Bummer I’m gutted for you 😞
That would of been so cool to run your Optima.

I had a feeling it was too good to be true. I probably would have kept this one in the Rough Rider, the Optima has a nice Futaba Magnum Junior radio... Actually I better see if that works too! 😂🤣
I'll keep an eye out for a receiver as I think that's the problem here, might get lucky! 👍

I thought these couldn't be used anymore due to cell interference? I got one of these along with the Rx and servos in an 80s nitro boat.

Yeah it's probably not a great idea to use them, there's just too much interference around for these old systems so this one is just an ornament now. Still, it's great you got one with your boat. They're a nice piece of RC history. 👍

Yeah, pretty disappointing. Oh well, maybe a working unit will come along one day. 🤞🤞
