Bon born in Scotland, his family immigrated to Fremantle when he was 6, also the Young brothers born in Scotland, but the family immigrated to Sydney when they were young children. All the musical influence came after they arrived in Australia. George Young the older brother of Malcolm and Angus, was in the Easybeats, and was one of Australia's greatest producers and songwriter, Albert records is where he worked.

The "Flick Of The Switch" album has a song called "Bedlam In Belgium". That bedlam gig was the first time I saw AC/DC, back in October 1977... The concert got cut short because the band started way too late and there was no permit for making substancial noise after 10PM. Cops arrived, AC/DC didn't want to stop, copper pulled a gun on stage, lights on and we went home, still half deaf myself because of standing a few feet from the main left loudspeakers.

These were from AC/DC's 2nd Aussie album "T.N.T" in 1975... the original 'High voltage' was the 1st Aussie album, which was recorded with George Young on bass and Tony Currenti on drums in the studio... then drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Mark Evans joined AC/DC in '75 and were on the 2nd album.
AC/DC was signed internationally in '76, and they released a 'High voltage' album that compiled songs from the first 2 Aussie albums... Mark Evans was replaced by bassist Cliff Williams in 1977 after their 4th overall album.

One of the few songs AC/DC had to tune up to match the bagpipes. I'm pretty sure this song was written in "A", as many of their songs are, but because the bagpipes were tuned to Bb, which is a standard for them, they tuned up to match it. Bon used to play the pipes live too.

Hi Kira, it was bagpipes you heard, Bon Scott, Malcolm Young, and Angus Young were all born in Scotland, Bon in Forfar, on the 6th July 1946, Malcolm Young on 28th January 1953 in Glasgow, and Angus Young on 31st March 1955 in Glasgow, Bon played the bagpipes brilliantly, AC/DC were formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1973 by Scottish born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, they moved from Glasgow to Sydney when they were young, Bon Scott moved from Kirriemuir, Fife, Scotland, to Fremantle, Australia, Bon sadly passed away on February 19th 1980 aged just 33, Malcolm Young passed away on November 18th 2017 aged 64 due to dementia, AC/DC are still going strong today in 2021, in their 60s and 70s, and they have a brand new album out called PWR /UP!! 😀 😀

You have to catch the film clip for Long Way To The Top. The band are cruising along, performing on the back of a truck slowly making its way through Melbourne.
Incidentally, AC/DC picked up Bon Scott here in Adelaide in '74, after sacking Dave Evans. Bon Scott used to sing in Fraternity from 1971(ish)-1974, a prog band that moved to Adelaide in '71. From time to time, Fraternity still get a bit of airplay on Proud To Be Loud, a retro-focused metal show here in Adelaide. (This paragraph was supposed to be a bit "Adelaide:Represent", but I think I just 'Sperged out a bit).
If you want more Australian metal, you can't go past Mortal Sin. Their 2 80s albums are their best known, but there are a couple of post-hiatus albums from the 2000s, a live bootleg and I think an album from '91 that didn't go much anywhere. They were on the same label as Metallica in '89, so ended up touring with them that year. Grunge was still a few years away, and Mortal Sin's line-up didn't look so unstable yet, so they were being pushed as the next Metallica at the time. Then all of a sudden sales of thrash albums plummeted. Mayhemic Destruction (1986) is pretty dirty, production-wise, while Face of Despair (1989) is cleaned-up, from when Mortal Sin were fully on-board with Vertigo.
I think it was issue 4 of Hot Metal magazine (an old Australian metal mag) that came with a free flexi-disc with Mortal Sin's 'I Am Immortal' from Face of Despair on it. About a decade ago I knew vinyl collectors who were just giving them away as uncollectable, and now all of a sudden you can't find them anywhere!

Bon Scott was the singer for AC/DC when they recorded this. The producers found out he had played bagpipes in school and just HAD to find a way to work it in. But it worked! :)

I like the fact that Bon and Brian are so different High Voltage was where I started and Its a Long Way and High Voltage are my favourites, wore the grooves out on the vinyl, the video for Long Way to The Top is fun (the band on a trailer driving down the road). Second favourite album (not necessarily good but fun), Def Leppard On Through The Night, it can be fun seeing the larval form of some bands also where I started with them

This is actually from 1975's T'N'T album. The first 3 albums make up the worldwide version of High Voltage from 1976. The Albums which are different from Australia 1974 High Voltage, 1975 T'N'T, 1976 Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Plus 1977's Let There Be Rock is 90% the same as everywhere else except one Lewd Song that was banned Crabsody In Blue which is only on the Australia Version.

Bon was scottish and learned how to play bagpipes when he was young and thought it would be fun to integrate bagpipes into a rock song. Try stay hungry from twisted sister if you like songs about a rock band trying to make it. Then the price by twisted sister which is a song about a band finally making it but their question is pretty much how to maintain that success and where they should go from there.

I first heard AC/DC back in 1976 (I was 8), the song was “Jailbreak”, and I was hooked. Seen AC/DC live four times, each performance was brilliant, AC/DC are the best live rock band, period.
Malcolm (R.I.P), and his brother Angus, best guitar duo ever.

The high voltage album you were listening to is the first American release. They had already released the High Voltage and T.N.T. Albums in Australia in ‘74 and ‘75 respectively, but Atlantic records in the US made a single album from the best tracks of the 2 albums and changed the cover ( they changed the album covers on every album up to 1980 except Powerage) unfortunately the American releases are now considered the official releases meaning some great tracks only available on the Original Oz Albums are now really hard to find. P.S up the Scots (my heritage too until we were run out of Scotland and forced to drop the name Stuart)

@@yowodup6094 absolutely the Australian covers were ALL better than the US ones and there’s a album’s worth of material that is unavailable now.
The only benefit is Dirty deeds now has Love at first feel, which was only a single here, but we have lost tracks and gotten edited versions of songs off all the first four albums.
Ya gotta wonder if the band is even aware their record company has done this. Considering their popularity why would you not want to have all official material available

@@damiangardiner147 Exactly! I feel that the record companies have screwed it. So much material that would be easier to have but instead some idiot said, LeT's MaKe A bAcKtRaCkS bOx SEt. When in reality all those songs were offical releases. Those album covers were iconic to Australia so changing them just made no sense. I'm hoping there will be a 50th anniversary special that might just might have them back again.

You really need to watch the official video, just a very young band riding a truck through the streets playing this as people just stare. LOL. Another song by Bon Scott is Let there be rock. One reactor asked about Bon's smile "Why's the brother look like he's up to something with that smile?" My answer was "Because he was.... " Bon loved to have fun!
As for Bagpipes in Rock check out band called Slade a lot of their songs were credited to other bands in the States but they were the original and best.

AC-DC has always been hugely popular in the US, too. I remember listening to the "Highway to Hell" album (vinyl) in 1979 with my best friend. AC-DC is legendary, and I've never gotten tired of them. So much energy.
