    Hey Louis, The NYPost made a article on the $800,000 house in Flushings you made a video on.
    I am 100% convinced the NYPost saw your video, and made an article about it. Because you posted that video a week ago, and they made the article on 6/27/2020.

      i was thinking exactly the same...
      i used to be working on and flipping these A1278 macbooks for a while and not once had i seen a motherboard in such pristine condition that wasn't tempered with by the owner.
      that fan looks almost brand new and the heat sink does not have all sorts of dust stuck onto it.
      altho the owner of this specific macbook must be a psychopath still using a regular 5400RPM hard drive in that A1278...
      i'm currently also using a 2012 A1278 with an i7 and 16GB of ram on it (i needed a pc with osx running natively on it during the time i was flipping A1278's so thats why) and the difference between the HDD that came with these and an SSD is more than night and day... its heaven to hell lol
      (just for giggles i replaced the dvd drive with another SSD and ran them both in RAID0 and WOW it gets so quick and snappy)
      with an HDD these machines are un-usable, with an SSD for daily tasks this macbook performs almost the same as my current laptop which is a 7th gen core i7 with 64GB of ram and ofc a samsung nvme drive.
      and its funny because since this A1278 essentially has two SATA3 ports you can take out that dated dvd drive and install a second SSD in that machine - something i think no one ever believe apple would allow lol.
      and ofc you had the option of using two SSDs in RAID0 on these machines (especially the 2012 A1278's since they had 2 SATA3 ports instead of 1 SATA2 and 1 SATA3)
      these machines are capable of having up to 16GB of ram which is a cheap and nice upgrade to do.
      and most importantly if you switch to an SSD the battery life improves quite radically and the battery itself is not fucking glued to the keyboard casing lol
      definitely the easiest and nicest macbook version to work on.

    Louis, watching your videos has inspired me to repair my own macbook a1466. I was working on my deck one day and went inside for 5 minutes and when I came out a thunderstorm whipped up and my macbook air was drenched and off.
    I put it in rice for a week and it came back on but no trackpad and no keyboard and when i hooked up externam kb/mouse it was super sluggish and didnt seem to work at all.
    I dismantled and found out the only water damage i could see was the mouse board was very corroded. I ordered a new "Top" from ebay with a new board/trackpad/keyboard and swapped everything out watching your videos and wham-o... everything works great. Subbed and liked.

    2:47 exact same thing I say to all my clients with their Air conditioners, if its gonna cost more to fix it than to install a new one, then go for the new one. Happened to me that a client had the A/C tubes stuck in the wall, thankfully the A/C works just fine, just changed the tubes because they were total loss, but the whole work revealed to the client the bad job they made him when building the house. So it was a win for the client because now he knows the problem that he has and I win because I know he will definetly call me again for checking his air conditioner.

      Lenovo, dell, and hp do the same shit now. Soldered ram and the t480 I just picked up has a proprietary connector to a 2280 2lane nvme drive in the 2.5 drive bay and even better it has a 2 lane 2242 m.2 socket on the board. Why the hell would you gimp both m.2 slots. Why can we have a normal 2280 m.2 and a sata drive. I will never buy a machine with soldered ram, 1 chip goes bad and you might as well chunk the laptop in the bin. Only plus was I got the t480 for a steal.

    I like your style Louis. I’m 91 years old and I am buying up old MacBook 2008 and 2009 macbook and pros to try and make one or two that work from spare parts. It is a challenge. I was The Sewing Macbine Doctor for 60 years so working on small stuff is not a problem but the electronics is a an obstacle I am dealing with. One question “were to find the model or serial number on a Logic board”? Thanks for your reply. Dr. Bill.

    Hey Louis, I just came into possession of one of these things. It won't boot but it is getting green light with a slight clicking sound on the board. No signs of water damage. Refurb boards for the machine are around $200 to $250... would it be worth sending the board I have in for repair or just replace with a refurbed one and selling the board I have for parts? I like the build of this era Mac, especially the keyboard, but I am just wondering what's the most reasonable path for repair would be.

    Hi, I have a MacBook pro that goes in infinite boot loop/ or freezes up on a black screen if the battery is plugged in.. I opened up the bottom and disconnected the battery cable and it boots fine with the cable disconnected.. does anyone know what could be causing this or experienced this before ???
    took it to the apple store and they told me it would be $800 to fix logic board ... I don't have the money to let them fix it ..
    btw its model is [[MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 ]]

      Not everything is fixable. We do our best, some people understand, some don't. If I could fix everything, I would, it'd mean more money for me. In your case it's a dead CPU that I cannot buy from any vendor, and guess who has their hand in making sure that is the case? The manufacturer - the people I've been working on my own time & dime to have regulated by right to repair laws that would make these parts available to me for over six years.
      There's not much I can do, some people will not be happy and I have to live with that.

    Girlfriend is a long time Mac person, just because she came from education background. Hate new Macs so I've kept her happy with her old and _very_ reliable 2011 27" iMac and Macbook Pro by maxing the ram and installing SSDs. Still work great and will, hopefully, continue to for quite a few years more. Then we'll see what our options are. Maybe Linux on 'em? Or just Windows (ugh).
    BTW, I'm installing an old 128G SSD in a 2006 24" iMac (fantastic screen!) that Apple has made unusable due to no MacOS path. Runs Linux quite well with it's maxed out 4G ram, but getting that darn plastic case open to replace the drive is a huge headache! Videos show how to do it but so far, no luck getting catches at the top to open. _Might_ have been damaged/bent by previous person who pulled the old hard drive.

    Hi, I've got a macbook pro 13' from 2011 from a friend, which does work with battery, but charger doesn't charge, I tried other chargers and also replaced the DC board… but no luck there, I've got experience soldering but I don't know how to trouble shoot this laptop, do you have any idea on what could be wrong or needed to be replaced? The green light of the charger starts green and then dims to almost no light, but If i charge the battery with another laptop, the machine turns on and works normally.

    It might be an old machine, but I am currently watching your ranting on exactly this machine! Took it apart just last week, to clean the horrendous Apple thermal paste and replace it.
    Of course, upgraded years ago with Samsung SSD and Corsair 16GB RAM! Still, I don't think I'll purchase another mac next, due to multiple factors. If only I could run OS X on a windows laptop! (Yes, I heard about hackintosh)

    • @TejasviKapur
      @TejasviKapur 4 роки тому

      Hackintosh is dead with apple shifting to Arm based processors. If you're used to macOS, wait for upcoming arm Macs. If you want windows, get a proper windows laptop. I'm sorry but that's how it is with Apple ditching Intel.

    • @tudormarcu2006
      @tudormarcu2006 4 роки тому +1

      I doubt they'll switch straight to their processor on the pro line in the next 2 years. They'll start with the Air, no doubt, to test the waters.

    • @TejasviKapur
      @TejasviKapur 4 роки тому

      @@tudormarcu2006 they're switching to Arm starting this December with the mac mini and 13" MacBook Pro. 2 year timeline is to shift the iMac Pro and MacBook Pro 16" to custom Arm chips. Apple is done with Intel's shitty overheating processors. Apple's a sucker for thin devices and Intel was actually holding them back with the thin and light fanless design that they're wanting to shift to for years. Not to forget that Intel hasn't innovated shit in the past 10 years. Intel still produces 14nm processors with barely 10% of the 10th gen processors being 10 nm. Amd has already shifted to 7nm and Apple is shifting to 5nm processors in it's new iPhones and upcoming Macs. Apple is 3 generations ahead of Intel especially with the upcoming 5nm processors. Within the next 2 years, the entire Mac lineup will be based on Arm based processors. Not to forget that with Arm based Macs, Apple doesn't need the T2 coprocessor to integrate Siri and touch id functionality to run with Intel processors. That means no kernel panics or T2 corrupting issues on new Arm based Macs.

    Hey look, it's the model I have. So I can see how I could fix it if I had the equipment.
    Mainly bought it (75 bucks at a flea market) in case I needed MacOS for something. Turns out I needed it to run FaceTime for my daughter's tutoring. Of course, *that* could be done just as readily with a 4th or 5th gen iPod Touch (haven't found how to hack FaceTime to run under Linux).

    I also have this old A1278 Macbook Pro and I use it almost every day. Unfortunately it does not work perfect, every time I wake it up from sleep-mode it runs for some seconds and then it freezes for several seconds that is a bit annoying and sometimes, but very very rarely, it reboots wiht kernel panic or freezes forever so that I have to switch it off and on again. Not sure if this has something to do with the SATA cable issue these machines are known for. Maybe anyone here has an idea what the reason for this behaviour could be because I would like to keep my A1278 alive as long as possible.

    • @Ralf947
      @Ralf947 3 роки тому

      I already reinstalled MacOS as it could also be a software problem, but obviously it is not, because the problem that it freezes for some seconds happend right during the installation process of MacOS and it still has this problem with a new installed MacOS.
