    Well, I can't recall if you said it here or in another video, as far as why people watch you - you're one of the only people doing practical explanations for electronic repair. I also had the Comptia A+ book that gave that obtuse definition for a transistor, so I get it.
    I think you're also one of the only people that gave advice for depression that wasn't the garden variety BS of "it's just like a light switch, be happy!" I wish you well, man. The board repair stuff got me soldering, the depression stuff helped get me out of a serious funk. Thank you.

In future please try to be a bit more descriptive with the motherboard model and Macbook model & year because the A1398 spans several years. OK is a nice state but may be a big change from NYC. The university of OK is massive and I’m sure would provide lots of business. I grew up in North TX and I’ve visited NYC prepandemic in spring, summer, and fall. The climate is way different but that’s only a little thing. OK and TX are some of the least walkable states. The climate and the way things are spread out makes it so everyone drives. OK and north Tx can have some crazy ice storms which is either cool af or terrifying depending on if your power is on. I really don’t know what the politics of OK are especially in regard to this business.
    It’s not bad at all it’s just different and a worthy consideration tbh. You might do very well in OK. Hook em horns

    I don't usually have much time for longer repair videos, but they're lovely to watch. Out of interest, why don't you clear the pads of solder, apply fresh solder to only one pad, heat that pad (with your soldering iron) while placing the component and then solder the other side? Do the bigger components warp too much when applying direct heat?

    • @johnbos4637
      @johnbos4637 3 роки тому +1

      It's more of a time thing. With SMD reworking it's faster to just tin the pads, add flux, place the part and hot air it into place. For amateurs, add the part to bare pads, add flux and solder one side, re-position if necessary then add solder to the other side and job done.

    • @ThisRandomUsername
      @ThisRandomUsername 3 роки тому

      @@johnbos4637 I guess so, but in this case he already used solder wick to remove all the solder from the pads anyway. I get he used the hot air pencil to remove the diode from the donor board, but if you're trying to not heat up too many surrounding components a soldering iron works pretty well.
      Edit: Also, most solder you get is rosin-core, meaning you don't need to add flux while soldering with an iron, only when reflowing.

    • @johnbos4637
      @johnbos4637 3 роки тому

      @@ThisRandomUsername no, you need to add flux with ALL smd soldering no matter what, even if using an iron or hot air, you must use flux otherwise you will get a bad solder joint or at the very least it will look bad and amateurish.

    • @ThisRandomUsername
      @ThisRandomUsername 3 роки тому

      @@johnbos4637 Rubbish. Dave from EEVBlog made a nice tutorial on how to solder SMD components. At 12 minutes and 7 seconds, he shows how you can get pretty good results with only the flux built into the solder: ua-cam.com/video/hoLf8gvvXXU/v-deo.html.
      I've soldered a lot of SMD components myself without extra flux and it's usually pretty easy to see if you've got anough wetting. It's always a good idea to go back to the first pin once the rest of the legs are down and resolder it in case it moved while cooling, causing a potential dry joint.

    I'm going to take this nugget of checking if the CPU or GPU is dead before debugging my A1707 with PP3V3_G3H at 1.8Ohm and 0.033V. Unplugging peripherals causes the GPU chip to get extremely hot and it takes 20V. When I plug everything in, I get 5V and the GPU does not get hot. Since I suspect a dead GPU, I guess I can take the heatsink off and see if it's actually the GPU or maybe a mosfet that's getting hot. I also remember this video saying something about checking resistance to a CPU pin, but I can't find that part of the video again. If only this was well-documented somewhere!

    Just an interesting note, but places like Portland, Washington, and San Diego as mentioned in your video, along with other west-coast cities have homeless population issues partly because homeless people know that (a) the weather is better there than in other regions of the nations, and (b) they're treated like human-beings more frequently.
    Housing prices for both rental and home-ownership are skyrocketing for several reasons; chief among them being (a) Rental apps like Air BnB, and (b) Investment properties.
    In the game of real-life Monopoly, rich people hoard their money and save it for what is a rainy-day for most people but the equivalent of buying up the clearance rack for them (recession). They buy businesses, real-estate, homes during this time and eat the cost of investment with ease as they wait for the next boom and repeat the cycle. This is is a chief reason why economic inequality has worsened over decades. In this game there simply will never be enough houses built to meet the demand. Realtor have the biggest lobbyists/unions in the nations; the home-owner/renter have jack-shit.

    The battery cannot be read by the smc and so the laptop only works with the charger. The diagnostics show PPT001 and PFM006 error codes.

    Hey Louis, I just uploaded my second ever UA-cam video. Exactly why apple iPhone suck.
    I pulled every screw out of a broken IPhone 6S. And laid out all 49 screws I pulled from an A1633 frame.
    This short video was all shot on my Galaxy S5 I swapped my original main board into all new parts to rebuild my phone with a PH000 screw driver. Anyone every wonder why Apple phones are pita to work on.

    ever do your taxes and think, what the hell did i spend all that money on? i think this is going to be one of those years for me.
    also i bought the new ipad mini. dont hate me too much, its bad for you.
    if you want to get away from the 800k middle class house, you have to get out of the city. which means things wont be bike distance away. sadly the only real way to solve that problem.
    you have to be in the bad areas for prices to come down in any city, go to suburbs and value goes up but prices dont go down much (things get bigger but not particularly cheaper, and finding the small places becomes near impossible)
    where i intend to live is going to be hours from a city, but a few minutes drive from town. i travel for a living, so where i live means nothing for my job. i mostly look for places based on logistics and values, with weather being a close 3rd (love the weather in georgia, florida and gulf coast texas dont have seasons)
    sadly louis has no real option to do things my way. either way i wish the best. if you even read this

    Hey have you got a vid on how you connected the charger to the desk power supply to see the amp draw?
    Found the video now ua-cam.com/video/B3w8nwyrdYw/v-deo.html if anyone is interested

    • @johnbos4637
      @johnbos4637 3 роки тому +1

      You just need to buy an adjustable bench power supply and it shows the current draw on a small LCD screen on the PSU. For laptops that use a USB charger, plug in a USB amp meter then connect that to the PSU and the amp meter will show the current draw. There are hundreds of videos showing the small amp meter being used, just go back and watch some of the repair vids on this channel.
