Inside an American MiG-29

- Step into the cockpit of America’s only private, airworthy MiG-29. This aircraft is owned and flown by Jared “Rook” Isaacman as flagship of the Polaris Program’s Ghost Squadron. It is used primarily as an advanced training resource to provide Polaris Program astronauts with experience they will use on their missions. This MiG-29 can also be seen in the skies over America in air show performances that showcase precision flying and bring awareness to the team’s partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jared's MiG-29 is the only airworthy, privately owned MiG-29 in the entire United States. It also stands out due to it being the two seat “UB” variant. This model was designed to train Soviet pilots how to fly the MiG-29 with an instructor so that they could eventually transfer to the single seat variant. The aircraft has been demilitarized so any weapon systems present are non-functional.

No matter what: The Mig 29 is an incredibly beautiful plane. Thanks for this video.
agree the mig 29 have the best looking 4th gen jet fighters
I saw this bird last summer at AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, it was an amazing airshow. The thunder from those RD-33 engines reverberates through your chest! Great performance and aerobatics, the G's must have been something to experience in the back seat! They did formation flying with a Mig-17 at the show too! The Mig-17's afterburner is quite unique with it's pulsing flame vs the Mig-29's smooth flame with thrust/mach diamonds extending outward.
mig 17's dont have afterburners probably was a lim 5
they do, just cuz war thunder doesnt have it doesnt mean irl it doesnt@@bigbruhther1529
@@bigbruhther1529mig 17 has afterburner and is in fact the first mig equipped with such
As Tupolev said "Only beautiful planes can fly good"
На что Глушко (конструктор двигателей) ответил: с хорошим двигателем и ворота полетят.
I flew the Su 27 for 15 years and the Mig 29 is also a wonderful machine.
what are the differences between Sukhoi Fighters and MIG fighters?
@@readyon3506Это совершенно разные машины. Созданы для разных задач.Если коротко-они отличаются практически всем
@@readyon3506size would be the number 1 thing. The Flanker is absolutely humungous
That Fulcrum's paint job is bad ass.
Like an airborne supercar with weapons. Dazzlingly stylish, graceful and elegant shape, I always admired the MiG-29. It just looks like such FUN to fly one.
Hard to believe it's just another machine designed for killing people! It's a weapon of war and nothing else.
Still a cool machine though.
Bad ass ? That's Gangsta shit ... 😂
The MIG-29 is by far the most beautiful aircraft ever made.
Nah
Su-27
Τu 160 the white swan its the most beautiful.
Mig 29 is nice but not the most beautiful, I think the most beautiful aircrafts are F14 or F22.
@@cemilmustafa f 14 is like an ugly duckling. The f 22 is a nice plane, but nowhere near as beautiful as the mig 29. There is no need to argue about tastes
It’s sooo weird to see Russian/Soviet fighters in English labels.
Thank you for the visual tour.
Jared for the access to his spectacular aircraft and the Polaris Program
Your are very welcome, hats off to the entire team at the Polaris Program! Can't thank them enough.
Oh boy...that was nice! Thank you for sharing this with all of us aviation lovers.
No worries! Glad you enjoyed! :)
id be in heaven if I owned that jet, my favorite fighter of all time.
This one is most definitely in a better shape than any original MIG-29 ever lol :D
that is one intimidating machine. Wow.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing! I can't even imagine what the fuel burn is on this thing, esp if you light the burners.
I’m sure it’s quite high in burner! Looks good and sounds good doing it though! :)
Each Engine in Full Afterburner burns about 2 Gallons per Second, similar to the J79 Engine in the F4 Phantom, F104, A5, B58.
This is amazing, the fact that this thing is still flying decades later and owned privately is wild. How would you even go about getting replacement parts? I’m guessing there’s a good amount of modifying involved.
I'd imagine: pretty hard. Especially since there's a War going on in Ukraine.
Awesome video, i cannot wrap my head around the maintenance this jet requires or how you folks even source parts for it especially the power plants bits & pieces
Советский Союз выпустил много этих "Соколов", плюс патенты есть у стран Варшавского Договора и и союзников, хоть и бывших, всё научились его модернизировать.
Nice! Also thanks to Jared!
Thanks! Very thankful to him for the opportunity!
Simply FASCINATING! 👍😎👍

I've been in love with the Mig-29 ever since I laid first eyes of pictures of her. I think that was back in 1985. What a dream to own one, but man the money for upkeep is insane.
Great walk around. Thanks.
Thank you!
Hope to catch her at Ft.Lauderdale air show in May.
Awesome video, just fascinating, thank you for sharing.
This was a great opportunity! Thanks for sharing!!
It was an incredible experience, very thankful. Glad you enjoyed!
If you need an A&P mech... give me a call.. Super cool man, living the dream for us all.
Such a beauty!❤
Amazing! I wonder how the owner gets the parts and service to keep it air worthy.
Thanks Jared ❤
Very well maintained

You are in Rusky Bird...
Damn AWESOME.....
😎😎😎😎😎
Really cool to see a view inside the cockpit, always wondered what this jet looked like on the inside
I'm glad you enjoyed, I thought it was interesting to see all the modifications as well as that rear cockpit!
thank so much
I got to see this MiG fly a few weeks ago at the Lakeland Linder Airport air show,
Now that was super cool thank you
people dont even get how badass of a machine this thing is
Saw it flying out of Fort Worth Alliance a few months ago, as I was leaving Cabela's, along with at least one Alpha Jet. Was curious what it was doing there.
😊Una Máquina Increíble 💪🏼
It's even more beautiful up close
Beautiful 🤩
Incredible they got a GTN 750 to fit, it is probably a better navigator than the avionics the original had.
coming to dcs this year
I feel like I'm watching a DCS world video, Awesome!
got to be the most beautiful bird ever to take flight
The good thing about analog dials is they're readable at a glance but with digital whilst being precise require them to be 'read' costing 'time' = death.
I watch the acrobatic show Mig 29 every day. I didn't even know that tourists ride it. Then I found the MiGflug channel on UA-cam. It's crazy, the noise is unreal.
Amazing plane

Do you have eyes? Looks like crap.
I live where this plane is based out of, would love to see an airshow here!
Awesome vid! Very cool plane, you did a nice job of capturing all the intricacies!
Thank you very much, lots to capture so I did my best! :)
The Cold War was a major drag and a blight on our species, but you gotta admit it produced some mighty cool ass hardware :)
The Cold War generated so much science.
@@Republic3D It also generated poverty, with taxes cranked up to pay for all that military hardware. It's sad, really.
Aside all that, these are cool airplanes. The MiG-29 is fast and agile, with good looks to back it up.
Don't kid yourself, American fighter jets are better. Better radar and missiles, better flight characteristics, better overall performance, more durable engines, less maintenance, more dependable and serviceable overall. The F-15's service record is legendary! The MiG-29 doesn't even come close.
@@devilsoffspring5519 Well, Russia attacked other countries significantly less, not like USA. So you're right about the track record.
No plane is harder then su-25...land,rearm,refuel and go,no maintance all days long...US f-16 or f-15 also,i doubt totally....you play too much games or have no idea how all works.@@devilsoffspring5519
Beautiful ❤
Awesome
Fantastic airplane
Blah
Mommy i want a mig 29 too😢😢😢
When that canopy goes down ur like, now, this is the real deal 😮
You do know Don Kirlin's MIG-29 is airworthy right? He just never takes it out of its hangar except for the occasional maintenance workups. He used to own 2 but sold one which was later destroyed in a crash in Alaska I believe? Current one is in his hangar in Quincy, IL.
That’s some ‘80s intro music for sure!
Isaacman!
It's clean
Nice video! Is the radar still full functional and able to lock other aircrafts or is it used as wx radar only?
This is the UB training model so it actually never had a radar. The radar controls in the cockpit are there so that pilots could train how to use them before going to the single seat models that were equipped with full radar sensors.
A wonderful, pink sealant in the cockpit of the plane 😆!
WZL-2 Panel is named after the company that invented and installed this upograte. Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze nr @ basically means "Miliotairy Aviation Works nr 2". Also Panel Below it is resposnible for recognising radar siugnatures of incoming missiles, planes and ground based radar stations.

Americans really know how to keep a fighter jet clean and air Worthy....
does anyone know what that WZL2 panel is for? i've looked it up and it seems like it's a Polish aircraft maintenance company but i don't see how a maintenance company would need a permanent display inside the cockpit
Well, since it replaces the original EKRAN indicator, it must also be some kind of a system malfunction display.
that could be it, but i have a feeling its something else as i don't see a reason to replace the whole display except in the case of a complete malfunction which is probably unlikely@@rizdaw304
Como Logro obtener ese Avion Militar, una Persona Particular??
Is that in belgrade mt
Man that's a small aircraft.. I imagined it to be enormous
Su 27 is the massive one Mig 29 is relativly the median of fighter sizes
Thank you for helping me figure out where which devices are, I didn’t know that the Mig-29 has USB (2:35).
Best plane ever and of course mig 25 foxhound
Best flying target ever.
Russians HATE letting their pilots see outside.
There was a version of the Mig-21 with so much added-on shit in the way of the already ridiculously small windows they put a periscope in so they could taxi, take off and land.
Compared to say an F15 or similar era jet, what's easier to work on?
legally sourcing the spare parts for the both them is pretty tricky especially US strict policy for in-service aircrafts but, if you're talking about the black market ones then the MIG-29 is a lot easier to deal with.
@@Loli4lyf Interesting
which wash mashine do you take chips from for this shovel plane.
I think that I have some kind of 'fetish' for this kind of rudder setup. I love Tomcats, F-18s and Migs like this one 😍
Gr8 ❤👍🏻
Is radar warning reciever working? I mean like, is it fully operational?
I was told it was deactivated during the demilitarization. It may still light up but I don’t think it can actually display any correct radar information.
Hey Steeve. I wanna buy Mig29. What are my options?
The Malaysian Air Force has retired the MiG-29N and also the MiG-29NUB
Glad to see this aircraft in the hands of someone who would actually cherish her.
wow that mig has the same switches that the Zil-130 trucks that I drove in my country Cuba have..🤣👍

Could it be possible for a US corporation to copy the entire design of the MiG-29 (or Su-27) and build them in house? Granted it would be expensive, but you could build your own parts and contract off the airframes as aggressors.
It’s possible, but the US has only suffered one air combat loss since Vietnam. Setting up an entire production line for a few op-for planes makes less sense than identifying something domestic with similar performance and using their tactics.
Basics spec..If more advance cn see MIG-29NUB nickname Smokey Bandit ..
Привет из России! Мы любим наши самолеты ✈️
Mikoyan design
In term of their construction quality and military performance, MIG-29’s are lackluster and inferior to Western aircraft just as every other modern Russian aircraft is, but, I cannot deny, just looking at it as someone who loves aviation, the MIG-29 is freaking awesome, I like flying them and other Soviet/Russian aircraft is games.
God, even on a private plane there is a two-inch layer of sealant on the canopy-window, I expected that at least in the US they would understand that this is very unsafe
