*Great lightweight shelter. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s love how it blocks the light from outside. It was a pain to open the first time but now that it is broke in goes up easy..*
I have used both and to be honest I enjoy the comfort of the hub. My Clan Kensi is great. Warm and easy to set up. Drill, flip, and you are fishing. The hub is obviously a lot more room for stretching out, cooking lunch etc. I love both. Each have their purpose.
I like both. Each having it's own purpose, although the flip over inches out on top due to everything being self contained in the tub or sled you need already, to carry your gear.
Aaron wiebe should be on these
jig n' rig I can see it now. Aaron wiebe “ the bigger the hub the bigger the hole”
Im still trying to figure out what everyones damn hurry is..."I gotta be quick. I gotta drill quick...gotta move quick"..jesus ...Im in a hurry all damn week at work to get out on the ice...once Im there ..there is no burry...just rippin lipz and enjoying every minute of it
Exactly, the hardcore guys like to make fun of the ice house guys for "camping on the ice" but hey sometimes it's nice to just sit back and wait for the fish to come to you. All these guys do it for a living so moving to find fish is their job, but given bad conditions for fishing I never complain about just setting up a fort and leaving it up to the fishing gods
I don’t have the patience to sit in a spot hoping for fish to swim by. I work all week to catch fish on the weekends. So I’m gonna move around and work until I find them.
If I dont catch a fish within 15 mins of drilling a hole im moving....I personally prefer a flip over for the portability of em.
Lot of knowledge in that group!
I built a solid base for my hub. It has skis so it pulls easy. Set up once and drag it around the lake. Pull up the lines and move. Easier than a flip over.
Just got the otter resort today. Being 6'4 I needed the resort for the extra room
I agree with the common theme: Flipovers are unquestionably my most preferred method. Only use the hub when have to because have too many people along to fit everyone in the flip over. When have more people along than can fit in the flipover, then that means more people to help carry equipment, so hubs have their place and aren’t always intolerable or unnecessary.
I have both shelters and they both have there place enjoy fishing out of both.Love the room of the hub and love the comfort of the otter cabin.
I have a flip over and I love it. I usually fish by myself so I can be more mobile. I’m never fished in a hub so I can’t make a comparison. I’ve had my flip over now for two year an I love it.
Why is it easier to move with a flip over ? I stack two sleighs together and it takes about thirty seconds to colapse my hub toss it in the second sleigh and keep walking... Auger heater and tent go in one sleigh and the rods, chairs, flasher, lunch, bait, and tackle go in the other
Lifting your arm and lowering it back down are the only steps required for a flip over. You literally just stand up and walk to the next spot. Taking all that time to move 10 yards at a time with a hub is pretty cumbersome at best. Regardless of ease, look at all the things you have to do to move your hub. I mean, you’re using two sleds... That time and effort taken to constantly set up a hub could be the difference of staying on the school or always being right behind them. Just depends on how you like to fish.
@@ryanwilson5936 i just use the plastic pelican sleds, they stack together, i use two so that i don't
have to organise anything just toss it all in.... With a flip you still have to drill holes, set up your heater, flasher, clean holes, set up dead stick, it takes an extra minute with a hub and you have 5 times the comfort and space
Moody Fisher you don’t realize that it takes 5 seconds to fold you flip over, and have everything in your sled while you move. With a hub you pull it into a fold, and then open it again ( that’s painful). Dude you are unrealistically dumb!
@@nathangravel2883 you're unrealistically sold on a flip, the hole process of packing up my set up takes less then a minute, and when im moving less then 50 yards i dont even colapse my hub, just hold up the roof and walk save myself a whole 30 seconds
@@nathangravel2883 everything is still in my sleighs, i dont scatter all my gear across the ice, the only difference is the time it takes to colapse 4 walls and a roof thats it
I have both hub/flip -hands down prefer the flip for mobility. Since I’ve upgraded my ice fishing clothing I tend not to use either and tote a sled/gear. I am more productive, seriously.
Proper clothing can go a very long way. I left a similar comment although I don’t own a flip. If the average ice angler understood first hand how well proper clothing can sustain comfortable warmth (even in fairly foul conditions) I think we’d see a lot less shelters. It is nice just hanging out in the hub though. With a heater and some LED strips you can fish for days.....and nights. I wouldn’t mind a flip though. Way more mobile.
We also can’t forget the elephant in the room. A lot of people don’t want others seeing them catch fish. I don’t care about that. It is nice for privacy though.
I ran without a shelter for years. I had a hub just never wanted to take the time and set it up. I’m constantly moving anyways so hubs don’t work for me. You’re right. You dress right and face away from the wind and you never need a shelter. I got a flip up this year though just so I can take off some layers and keep my hole from freezing over if I’m ready to set up on some fish.
A hub simply due to the fact I am in high school and can't afford a $800 flip over shelter and also when I ice fish I want to go with a buddy or two to enjoy the day on the ice. My 4 man insulated shelter from cabelas cost me $320 Canadian and only takes not even a minute to set up.
For a flip, I’d look into Shappell. Relatively affordable and pretty good quality. I know you’re being raped by Canadian prices but in Michigan, a one man Shappell flip should cost between $150-$250 US depending on the time of the season. I’m not sure how that converts into CAD but I know it’s higher.
For portability I like to use a flip over. If I have friends with cars join me I'll bring the hub and use it as a base camp. While were searching for fish.
I just sold my Otter X-Over Pro and got the Eskimo limited addition. My Otter was 175 lbs empty and wouldn’t slide in the snow which sucks when pulling by hand. I wont go back… My family can stand up, set up with room to sleep, film ect…
I have and use both. I only have a small hub 2 possibility of 3 man and a 1 man clam. Time wise its about the same to move unless Its windy and need to use ice anchors. Flip over is nice cause all my stuff in contained in one sled but it's not too big of a deal.
No one said they like the flip over for the seat...instead of a bucket. My biggest reason.
I actually prefer a bucket. 6 gallon buckets are great for seats and you can put a lot of gear in them. On days I travel light, I can fit everything I need (including a Marcum) except my auger in it then sit on it. Can’t beat a 6-7 gallon bucket for minimalism.
I agree though, I know some of those guys gotta love those seats lol.
@@ryanwilson5936 i love the seat in my new clam yukon xl! Can't wait to get some safe ice and take it out. But to each their own. I just like the privacy.
Both have a place
I like my flip-over I like moving a lot
Opinions on 2man flip vs 3man flip??
I fish with my GF a couple times but other than that it would be for just me...
A lot of opinions but a lot of them make sense
I have the Evo 2 it, so does that count at a hub and a flip?
I love my Frabil hub for setting up a base camp if you will, but for the run and gun, finding fish the flip-over cant be beat
This is a debate i have fought with for years, I actually own 2 sizes of flip overs a single and a double plus two sizes of hubs. I found last year I actually spent more time on the ice with none of them. Just dressed right and packed a sled full of gear and hit the lake. Way faster to run and gun that way. I take the wife we take a shelter and depending where we go depends what we take. So my take is if you are going to spend say $500-$1000 invest in a really good ice suit and boots before any shelter. May find you don't need one much.
if you go to lakes that have only a few people on it sure. and if you are not catching fish by all means nobody will come near you if the rod is not bent. lol.
Hub shelters for sturgeon fishing and flip overs for everything else
Croix? CROix, CROIX?!?!?!?
Nolan Peterson Yep! I love the Croix!!!
I love my flip over
I find myself not using any shelter 95% of the time. I just properly dress for the conditions. In my gear, I’m comfortable down to -10f with sustained 10-13mph winds. I can usually do that for about 4 hours before I feel like warming up then at that point I just go home. FWIW, I use a hub the remaining 5% of the time. I usually set that up on spots that I know are absolute honey holes. On those lakes, it doesn’t matter where you drill if you’re in the correct location. They are there.
Running and gunning doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t record the fish’s movement patterns. Once you learn those you CAN sit in one spot and catch quality fish in the same numbers as searching for them. Just depends on how quickly you want to catch them that day.
Should have shown more of the product in the interview
@Walleyeguy513 What was it about?🤷🏻♂️
@Walleyeguy513 Just answer the question what so hard about that 🤷🏻♂️ clue me and everyone else in that may not understand what it’s about
These guys are pro fishn, their needs are not like most. These guys all pull my machine.
Show me a flip over that can fit 4to6 people for $200? Weight 30lbs? Try draggn a 4 man flip by hand...
Most these guys fish alone or with small groups, everyone in the group probably have their own set up and rigs. When you have a sled or wheeler weight isnt much of an issue.
I've pulled my flip over for 15 years. Its rough sometimes but Im not dead yet
@@wgooetrik u pull a four man flipover?
Fish trap to hunt
650xd when i find em!
If you are by yourself, FLIP OVER! PERIOD. Pop ups suck when you're by yourself and you can't move easily.
If 2 or more then 4+ person pop ups for the room and comfort if you have good chairs. But again you can't move that easily.
I think with only 2 people I would still say use a flip over , 3 person size. Those sizes are once again marketing, always one person short on their rating.
And the winner is....
Hubs are for amateur hr or if u have a car 2 man flip is the way to go all around there is a reason they all say flip cause they move to find fish people that go out and set up a hub in tent city rarely catch as many fish
The “fool” in you’re name is ever present in your comment.
Fool comment by an amateur!
Not a fool but a tool!!!!
So how much money have you made using your flip over?
Neither, brave the elements!!!
Obviously you never ice fished in single digit weather, with 15 mph winds....
Hanging Around just face away from the wind and dress right and you are fine. Very rarely do I run a sheltwr
@@jakemangi4815 it's not so much the cold, its keeping the hole from freezing constantly.
@@Tyler-zw4kq some of us are just different I guess. I can sit in the wind all day no shelter. Even it it’s 0 out. I have a pair of striker ice trekkers I bought for 150$. All I’ve ever needed to keep myself warm
@@Tyler-zw4kq rule #1 keep your core warm. If you can do that your fingers and toes won’t get cold. I am outside every day in the winter. Hunting, fishing and working. If you can keep your core warm without it getting too warm and sweating you will be fine. Only time I ever bring a hut is if it’s a super finesse bite. Cause then the hole freezing over makes it hard to jig.
Why this wandering ADHD style of filming? I gave it thumbs down after 1 minute.
