    The SIRUI 1.33x anamorphic lenses are probably one of the most affordable lenses out there, but what happens when you put them on the RED Komodo? Sirui was kind enough to send over their 35mm 1.33x anamorphic lens and in this video I'm sharing my thoughts after comparing it to my Vazen 40mm and even the Helios 44-2.

    I have a Sirui Saturn anamorphic with Leica L mount, Would it fit on a red Komodo-x or would I need an adapter, thanks for this great video

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  2 місяці тому +1

      I‘m pretty sure you can’t adapt L mount to the Komodo. The Komodo natively has a Canon RF mount, so the flange distance is to similar between the two mounts to adapt it. Correct me if I‘m wrong though.

    In the performance video I see a lot of movements but no establishing shots or no close up of the fingers stoking those strings! Which makes me wonder even more? Minimum focus is truly important as well

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  7 місяців тому

      The parts where the camera goes close to the face is minimum focus on this lens. With the Siruis, and pretty much all anamorphics really, you can’t get any big close ups unless you use a diopter.

      for the gimbal shots of the guitar player we used a Nucleus M follow focus, other than that I pulled focus directly on the lens.

    Because it is 1.33x do you skip the anamorphic setting on the komodo and just shoot in regular super 35 2.4:1?

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  7 місяців тому

      No, I still desqueeze the image in camera. It’s much easier as it’s already desqueezed when I put it into my NLE, so there’s not really any reason not to do it.

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  7 місяців тому

      For me it was always close enough, as on the Sirui the squeeze is not constant throughout the Focus range, but you can still always change it in post. I never really had an issue with just using that setting though.

    Good content here, thanks. I also use this combo of the Komodo and OG Sirui 1.33x anamorphics. For me, the benefits are their size and weight, fast f1.8 aperture and the 1.33x extended field of view. However, these benefits are at the sacrifice of other anamorphic characteristics, such as outer-frame distortion and waterfall bokeh, which makes them a very clean lens, and “very clean” is not a typical characteristic of true anamorphic lenses.
    BUT… if you pop a Great Joy/Blazar 1.35x adapter on the front of them, THEN they come alive, resulting in a 1.8x crop and introducing all those dreamy anamorphic characteristics.
    As a comparison, I shot this scene on my Komodo with the Sirui 50/75mm 1.33x: ua-cam.com/video/vsOm57Y0_bI/v-deo.htmlsi=aksu_gBJJ0fBY8Wk
    And shot this music video with the same 1.33x lenses but with the Great Joy 1.35x adapter: ua-cam.com/video/9OJkw2Cv-Xw/v-deo.htmlsi=GkmXjjyNPGhQUKfM

    • @MortyFilms
      @MortyFilms  6 місяців тому +1

      That’s an interesting combination for sure, I still think it looks pretty clean, even with the Adapter and I don’t know If I’m a massive fan of the flares, but I really like what Blazar is doing at the moment, both with their adapter as well as the new Remus lenses. Thanks for sharing!

    • @ShotbyPicto
      @ShotbyPicto 6 місяців тому +1

      @@MortyFilms I believe he means it wouldn’t have taken Sirui much more development to make a 1.5x squeeze. Too late now, of course, but Blazar just released a set of 1.5x anamorphics (Remus series) and although I have the Sirui 1.33x lenses too (35/50/75mm) the Remus blow them out of the water (as far as anamorphic characteristics are concerned).

    Kind of sad when the B Roll for the product itself looks waaay more better than the B Roll captured with said product. You need to invest more time into the shot versus simply "going out with friends and capturing whatever looks good"
