I started my curly journey in 2018 and since then I was always on the hunt for products and tehniques to make my hair as curly as possible.I used to be 3b, then my curl pattern loosen a lot and I freaked out.
For months I've been sad and angry that my hair is not how it used to.
Your channel helped me accept and understand than not only a certain curl type is beautiful and as long the hair is healthy,I should be happy.
I cut myself bangs 3 days ago and I feel the most confident I've ever been.
No one asked but I am very excited 😅

I've unlocked the secret to my 7 day hair!
Wash day I wash and style per usual. I sleep in a pineapple, then before I shower I use a light mousse or recurling spray. I plop, and stay in that plop for my entire morning routine (at least an hour). The little moisture and plop seems to liven up any stretched out curls. I fluff and touch up as necessary.

Cool! Do you do the plop before your shower? Or do you use the humidity from the shower and then plop?

@@LemonadeLaura I plop before my shower so it doesn't get soaked.

Maybe I’m just reaching that point in transition (5 months in) but I tried this method twice and it has given me the most defined/organized curl clumps of any styling technique I have tried. Thanks for passing this one along!

Your results were so great! I didn’t think it would work this well for you. I have used this technique my last two wash days and my results were also much better than I expected. I feel like this is a great mix between the flip coat scrunch and brush styling and I plan to continue using it for future wash days.

Ooo I hadn’t seen this method before, and am excited to try it! Scrunching alone is always messier for me, but my brush style is sometimes too much brushing, this one might be a good middle for me! I’m excited, and good to see baby girl! Looking great 💜☺️

I do something similar, but right side up. At least for right now, I can't style upside down because it just never ends up falling correctly around the crown of my head. I'm currently dealing with a lot of thinning hair in that area so even tho it gives me volume it's just not worth it right now :( so I've been taking my wet brush and brushing my hair up off my scalp in sections and it's done wonders with volume and also covering up problem areas. Love how this technique worked out for you!!

Looks beautiful! I can't stretch out my washdays either. I can skip 2, sometimes 3, days in between washing but that's about it. My skin/scalp is way too oily to go longer than that. It starts getting itchy and I can't stand it.

This is great to watch someone demonstrate this technique who has wavy curly hair. So many videos are way curlier than mine, and when duplicating their techniques, it just doesn't yield the same results. Will definitely try this technique. Thanks, Courtney.

I felt the same way! Especially with the oils! Can go 7 days regardless, but if I use oils I def feel like I need to wash it sooner, I just don’t and choose an updo instead cuz I’m lazy and my scalp gets dry easily. Lol
But by far this routine has given me the best volume of any other style using a brush. I feel like it’s much easier to get the right tension on the brush when you can see how all the clumps are in front of your face. And I’m addition to ensuring the product gets to all areas of the head, the curls/waves end up uniform all over. Thx Courtney! 🎃

Your hair is beautiful! Oil doesn't work on my baby fine waves. I always skip it. I have used CurlSmith purple line gel as it's more a lightweight serum to smooth over if I need something. Most times, I just use a pick to comb thru and that gets rid of any crunch from stylers. So excited for you and your family -- can't believe baby girl will be here soon!

Welp, I tried this a few days ago and I while attempting the steps, I thought *why* am I so awkward?! 😆 I was so happy to hear you - our favorite, experienced wavy/curly girl, talk about being awkward! 😉 My results weren't nearly as beautiful as yours, but duh to me...I forgot the _comb_ part! 🙄 I'm not a refresh girl, so whether I wash my hair or not, my hair gets "the hose"! 😂 (A Silence of the Lambs reference) 😬 So glad you're feeling better! ❤️

  • @anamariahrezdac

Maybe not using the comb after the brush to break up the clumps. You may have more definition then. I think she does it to get more volume and her her is super curly and she would have like 15 big curls otherwise. Just a thought🤔

I have a very similar hair type to yours and the ONLY time I've ever been able to get my washday to last an entire week is when 1. I did a full styling routine with Curlsmith's hair makeup gel (it gives my hair extra grit and is slightly drying to my hair) and 2. I wore my hair in a pineapple for the majority of those 7 days. My hair gets greasier faster when it's straighter and when I wear it down so with the combination of the gritty gel, curly hair and the pineapple I was able to get away with 7 days. But my hair needed some MAJOR detangling and a pre-poo treatment after the week.

Love how voluminous is it!! I have stretched it out to 7 days and by using an oil really helps with that on my hair and i do have a looser curl pattern as well. But my hair really doesnt get oily fast either so take from that what you will. Oh I only use 1 or 2 drops of oil rub it through my hands and fingers thats all I need just so i dont create more frizz with my dry hands lol.

Great video, thank you! How did you diffuse your hair with this method? At the end of this method, you flipped your head right side up, while making sure the roots were away from your head. When you diffused, did you follow your regular diffusing routine? I watched your previous, excellent, "updated how to diffuse" video. In that video, you started with your head upside down, followed by right side up, then upside down, and finally right side up. Does this diffusing routine work with the flip section method?

Courtney, have you ever retried a particular styling technique a second time around? Thinking back to all the videos I've seen, most context creators try something for the "first" whether products or a styling technique. I also wonder if a second go around would give better results? Especially since our hair gets use to the products we regularly use so trying something once may not really give it (new products) justice. I hope this makes sense and just something I've been thinking about. Also if you retry this technique can you try with the oil when you finish the final scrunch? For comparison? Thanks!

Courtney, I have a question about the Innersense products used. The Quiet Calm Curl Control and the I Create Hold both have glycerin in them. The curl control has glycerin as the second ingredient and I Create Hold glycerin is about 2/3 down the ingredients list. Your hair looks great! I watched your videos about glycerin and I’m struggling with my hair so I’m trying to avoid it. How can it be that you had such a great hair day?? I own many Innersense products that I’ve taken out my rotation due to glycerin. I live in south Texas where it’s typically humid, but this cold front has totally changed things. Please help!

I've been upright styling my hair with the Behairful brush for the past few months and I get seriously great, out of this world definition with it (I never expected I would fall in love with a hairbrush) but the volume is lacking, even if I diffuse upside down. Maybe I could try this method with my brush and try to get the best of both worlds.

Ooh I had watched one on Instagram with a slight twist - they brush styled then scrunched the back section first, using their arm still, and then flipped it to the back, followed by the same with the middle, then front, which I think would really help those of us that get that rats nest in the back (the extent kind that shaking head & roots doesn't come anywhere near fixing).
I want to try it but I'm still nervous because I have multiple cowlicks in the back where the hair actually grows out in a swirl pattern so that curls at the back of my head grow up then down, then going in a circular motion from there, the next set grows to the side then down, followed by growing to the other side then down. Like a sun burst. I have 3 of these that all merge together. It's crazy.

When you flipped your hair right side up, the way your hair reacted, I related so hard. I can have perfect juicy clumps upside down, they look slimey and wonderful, and then when I flip back up, no matter how careful I am, they just… shatter. The best I can do is not flip right side up until the cast has formed halfway through diffusing, and then only my roots are crazy. So frustrating, but I still get better results styling upside down than right side up

I think I agree with you! That is the best way to keep curls clumps from really breaking up. Sophie's hair is super super clumpy. Researching her page I have found that she really focuses on keeping her curls from clumping together too much.

As wavy haired people, we often get told we don't "have a place in the curly girl community". But that's kinda dumb. My hair is a combo of wavy and straight. I use curly girl method friendly products in my hair and diffuse it so it looks better. And it has really helped my hair look and feel healthy. Give it a try. You'll know within about 3 months if you really want to stick with it. And don't feel bad if you just use the method as a guideline and modify it. Most of us do that.

Hi, from Indiana ! Happy Friday

I recently got the Shark Hairdryer. Even on the lowest setting it feels REALLY hot. Hotter than my previous dryer felt on medium or even high. It's actually uncomfortable because it's so hot. I feel like this is WAY too hot for curly hair.
Does anyone have any feedback on whether my dryer isn't working as designed, or if it Is really supposed to be this hor?

I also just got the shark hairdryer and noticed it gets hot even, on low setting, within a few minutes of diffusing. I keep my finger on the cool shot button most of the time so I don't burn my scalp and fry my hair!

I did mention in the video where I showed the shark versus the Dyson that I have to press the cold shot button a bunch on both of those hairdryers. I do find that it is better with the shark when I do low speed and low heat when I diffuse. If I turn the speed up at all it feels like it gets hotter. I don’t mind having to press the cold shot while diffusing. It’s some thing I got used to doing when I was using my Dyson hairdryer.

I still love the Shark and think it's worth it! My results with the shark were some of the best waves and curls of my life!

So far I think I'm liking the results. I got a haircut 2 days before the dryer arrived (an appointment opened up unexpectedly) so I'm still trying to figure out how to style with the shorter hair. We put too many layers in, so I'm still trying to figure out how to work with it. That, and everything in my life is a little crazy right now (quit my job... blah, blah, blah) so I'm probably overanalyzing everything 😄😄

I've been thinking about that boar bristle wet brush. I'd love your thoughts on it! I have a tangle teaser fine & fragile which is great for detangling as well a denman-style, but my hair slips right through them so they don't really work for brush-styling. I saw a fine-haired wavy influencer recommend a boar bristle/nylon pin hybrid for brush-styling and have been thinking about it for a few weeks :)

I've been using the Behairful brush for the past few months and it's like what you described from the influencer you saw, a dense boar bristle brush combined with a wet brush and I love it. Even my first, poorly done attempt gave me better definition than on my best upside-down scrunching days. It gives me more tension when I brush through my hair than I could achieve with a Denman brush, and I don't have to worry about what direction or angle I'm brushing with it. It's $40 which is pricey, but I think I found a code for it that brought it down to like $20.

Nope! 3 days is my max for a wash day. My oily scalp says “no more”

Same! 🙋‍♀️ For me it's two full days max. In the summer it's even less.

Gotta love pregnancy brain which may have added 6-7 minutes of emptiness to this video. I say that just in case it messes with your engagement rates that the video isn't fully watched. :D

I'm low po and i HATE oil on my hair i never use it because it becomes way too much of greaseball too easily.

Not using the oil is totally fine. I even have curly hair similar to the girl in the original video, but oils just create too much heaviness, even light oils seems to create a “oily look”. We all know our own hair. The beauty is taking other methods and making them our own! 😀

I can't use oils either. They give me frizz.

Nah you didn't need the oil to scrunch out the crunch, it would have ruined your wash day.
