I use a can primer called TranStar Direct to metal and raw plastics it sticks to all of it it’s the best can primer I’ve ever used you can put it over a little small body filler and it does not shrink so I would have put that on there and based then cleared but both ways will work thanks Kandy Man!!!!

Back in the day I would apply primer on frames then let dry,then sand a week later to paint,now adays I just seal and paint frames in one shot.Safes alot of back ache.👍

Many yrs I prepped bumpers and cars never spot primer and used Nason select seal and painted over

Is waterborne paint a good paint for someone painting in his garage?
It could be used but is very slow if not sprayed in a controlled environment. It needs air flow to dry I would stick to solvent for garage jobs..
