LIke the wet on wet process. I do that with a paint manufacturer here in the US. Tamco has some products like that. They have a single stage urethane that you can wet on wet clear on flash. Really nice for having more on there to buff. Great for show car or home job where you will need to color sand and buff.
Love your approach and attitude to the so called professionals. Maybe just sour grapes, maybe they thought that they were good until they viewed your productions. Everyone does the same job in very different ways, take a very different approach. Maybe their just afraid to learn new. Sound very sad people. I worked in Bio-Medical research and development for 13 years, and to get the job I bet 14 University degree honour's holders in Bio Medical Research, something that I was not qualified in. 13 years I only left because Meridian USA took over. I then went into vehicle repair. I'm more than delighted to learn something new every day. So thank you. We all open to some kind of criticism no-one is perfect. But hey! if you haven't got something nice to say, best say nothing no need for insults. Great work, keep it coming there are plenty waiting for the next production.
Haha thanks man and exactly bud if you don’t like something move on there’s no need to be an idiot about stuff , and same for me I love learning new stuff
Great advice about the real world. Just did a motorcycle spider front sub-frame with nautical epoxy primer from Titan (probably 1/3 of the cost of MIPA's). Very very thick, used a 2 mm Iwata and was still difficult to flow. 3 hours under ambient temperature and then 1 full hour under the IR light. The primer was still not fully cured. Followed this by a direct gloss black paint and repeated the IR light. One week later it's rock hard. Really successful process, almost wet-on-wet. Surface is thick, chunky looking textured, but for a motorcycle sub-frame it looks sturdy.
Great job friend... I use every day mipa 4:1 acryfiller and epoxy on big job's... I recently have my solvent based and single stage Mipa mixing system... Mipa it's a great company!
Can I just say please don't take this wrong but if your starting to learn a good way is get old car doors or car wings to practise on theres good knowledge to learn for it thats if your not already doing it sorry if I've spoken out of turn but just trying to help you keep up the learning it will pay off for you

Tony, today is the first time I have seen one of your videos and like the way you add all the details as you go along, I totally agree with you regarding not stripping the paint to bare metal, particularly as modern day 2 pack sealers are so effective and sandable and stripping to bare metal is not going to make any big if any difference in the finished job. Looking forward see seeing your other videos and learning from them, many thanks.
Too many people seem to like to add their criticism and 'knowledgeable' advice on how a job should be done. I think they need to listen to the explanation of why something is being done a certain way. I am neither a panel beater nor a spray painter; just enjoy watching you do your work. I do listen to you as I always pick up some tips for when I get enough nerve to spray paint my trailer.
Top Job. Don't worry mate about muppets. I am currently with the same situations that I cannot afford full restoration so will do exactly the same way. Thanks for all videos. Really helps 👍👍👍
Great vid, exactly what i was looking for, thanks! About to have a go at wet on wet for first time. I was surprised you left it for an hour before the hi build. Is that because epoxy takes longer to cure than paint? I was going to wait 20 mins in an unheated booth, sounds like that will cause problems.

I have some Chameleon products that have an epoxy with a urethane primer that you put on like that. great way to get great adhesion and still have a sand able product on the top. I also use a product that is a urethane encaplulater. has really good adhesion and rust encapsulation. Not recommended for heavy rust but if there is minor sanded and treated rust it will hold out for many years.
Hi Tony, Apologies for dragging you back to this vid but everytime I watch it I learn something new. Can't remember if I mentioned it but I ripped all the rot out of my T4 and did a 'first aid' respray under a 9x9 gazebo....using Mipa products. I accidentally did the wet on wet technique around the window shut as I only had one gun I had to thin the epoxy right down.....went on like a dream. Question: I plan to do pretty much the same thing you've done to the camper however my bus has quite a few layers of paint on it now. I want to take it all back to primer (ish), which I know is going to mean shed-loads of work. Should I convert a grinder to a soft backed sander and smash it with 150 discs or would you recommend another approach. Love the info you put out Tony......really appreciated.
@@TonysRefinishingTV Hi and thanks for taking the time to get back. I had a hunch you might say that. What's the score when the paint stripper hits filler or is a case of removing everything , filler and all? (Nkt that there's much filler at all...most of the panels are new). Ta
Quite right, Forget the keyboard , they’ve probably never painted or know the first thing what’s involved, spot with your comments regarding budgets, I just did an Aussie imported van for myself, same idea as yourself, good prep, epoxy, then primer filler, It may not be 100% showroom, but I’m very happy, that’s all that matters, can’t wait to see finished product, keep up the videos.👍

Hi there. Could I ask which Mipa 4:1 high build that you used please as there seem to be 2 different ones available. I’m doing a Range Rover classic which is a mix of ally and steel panels and I’ve done Mipa EP first then plan to do the filler work then seal again with Mipa EP, then high build then Mipa EP again and then Mipa 2k top coat
So say you don't have an oven and wouldn't mind keying up again is that ok, I'm planning to go back to metal around the window area due to rust, plan is to remove rust treat treat it then etch primer (wondering why the sealer is required ? ) Then high build then paint this is gonna be over a month lol
Great work as always! That's a lot of work that's why the body shops doesn't like to work with the classic cars so they want the easy and fast money with cars insurance. By the way tony!did you know if pmp supplies is going to be back in bussines?they had a very good prices and too many limited edition spray guns i know there is another sponsor now but they don't have sagolas and many other spray guns.
Hi mate, I'm a bit curious as to why you've epoxied this as its not been stripped and to bare metal? Whats your method behind it as being a painter myself and from my knowledge of products id personally only use epoxy over bare metal before filler then high build? - I'm not here saying you're wrong by the way genuinely interested as I may learn something new *disclaimer* not watched all the way through yet so if you have said in the video then my bad lol
lol no problem at all man take a look at the video i did first on this where we just shot epoxy on the van over the old paint ect and i explained why in detail in that
I'll have to see what we have in our market, I like this idea...and next up for paint is a 78 westy....I like seeing the shine and reflection in the light....paints are expensive. 20-30K pounds for paint ? Not in my budget...thanks for this video.
Looking good Tony, not bad for a wannabe painter 🤣 seriously tho, like I've said in the past all the work you do is top draw who ever says differently is obviously smoking crack. Love watching your videos and inspired me to paint my van, have a great wk end dude and sink some nice coffees 👌🤙👍
Great video as always Buddy! I am late to the party on this one but am making my way through them all Its disappointing that you have to come out and explain yourself to people who blatantly either don't know what they are talking about or are just looking for a fight....well handled!!! Keep at it!!
Lol thanks mate and unfortunately that’s just being a creator mate people think we all wana be paid off for stuff but some of us have morals and standards
Very nice work sir, I enjoy watching you at work along with your descriptions. Re the so called experts (Keyboard Jerks) you don't need to explain to the skintubes, It's really not worth your time. As you said quite eloquently, you and your colleagues live in the real world. All the best to you and yours for the new year. 🙂
Bus is looking great Tony! I bet if you put that bus and one taken down to bare metal next to each other the armchair experts wouldn't be able to tell which was which once they've been primed!
for sure sometimes I would rather keep the original undercoats there too for better protection if they are not compromised. useing that epoxy as a sealer gives it better adhesion and a strong seal coat under the primer. Kind of like another coat of steel.
It’s grey mate did look an odd grey though but the camera will also alter the colour abit yeah , and yes the epoxy will seal all the paint edges down properly
Gotta feel for those keyboard ninjas, they more than likely aspire to paint but lack the fortitude or will to try resulting in them directing the dislike they have for themselves at others doing what they wish they could do. Substrate up restorations are great but the cost and time involved can quickly become astronomical plus with advancements in chemical technology it is not necessary. Your work always looks great plus you put yourself out there to help others which is awesome.
who the hell would say you are a wannabe!?🤡 honestly if he/she is so good why the hell is he/she bothering watching you. He/she should have his/her own channel educating us all on how it should be done 😂 I wouldn't even let them idiots piss you off fella. Keep us the awesome work we all appreciate the hell out of it. 🤟
Tony, I know are doing a good job & putting plenty of time into this job & this isn't a troll rant, but stripping a bus to bare metal with paint stripper & a bit of 40g is not a weeks work, 2 days max 1 person, if you didn't do the roof. A lot of the time you've spent on it ie 14 days, has been spent feathering out bad repairs & poor previous paintwork, stripping would have been quicker & better IMO. I'm not knocking what you've done as you are a hardworking guy that knows his stuff.
Very true mate but then the whole bus needs to be bodyworked from the ground up , who knows how many hours filler work , dent pulling , straightening panels will be needed after it’s all been stripped back to bare metal ???
@@TonysRefinishingTV I do restore cars & I run my own business, as you know there are digital paint gauges that tell you paint thickness so can detail areas prior to stripping back, also bore scopes for getting into cavities, these are the methods I use to investigate my jobs, but I do restoration, not general painting as you do. I like what you do mate, not knocking it.

@@TonysRefinishingTV Hi and thanks for taking the time to get back. I had a hunch you might say that. What's the score when the paint stripper hits filler or is a case of removing everything , filler and all? (Nkt that there's much filler at all...most of the panels are new).
Ta
Ideally mate just take the lot off tbh
Quite right, Forget the keyboard , they’ve probably never painted or know the first thing what’s involved, spot with your comments regarding budgets, I just did an Aussie imported van for myself, same idea as yourself, good prep, epoxy, then primer filler, It may not be 100% showroom, but I’m very happy, that’s all that matters, can’t wait to see finished product, keep up the videos.👍
Exactly mate not everyone is looking for concourse on these vans some want something they can use
Wish you were closer to me. Need my mini spraying!
Lol where are you based buddy
@@TonysRefinishingTV stoke on Trent. I’ve done epoxy, flatting etc etc. just looking for someone to take the shell and do the good stuff. Very hard finding anyone
@@TonysRefinishingTV actually the epoxy has gone a funny colour in two places. At the edges.
Your literally ten mins away mate I’m in nantwich
@@TonysRefinishingTV I thought you were on south coast for some reason! Ok, how can I get in touch with you pls
I don't think there's any shop that can rely on bare mettle jobs they are few people like you say mate that can afford it plus it shows your jobs are very good too notch if anything mate the proof is in the pudding your expanding the shop are they doing the same I doubt it so ignore the know it alls I bet they not doing half as well as you plus people wouldn't come to you for the cars and vans doing if you weren't doing a fantastic job I know from experience theres not many out there mate with your work ethic keep up the good work mate
Thanks Gary really appreciate the kind words mate
@@TonysRefinishingTV sorry for the spelling mistakes mate I had predictive text on ha ha one mistake was supposed to say top notch not too notch ha ha sorry about that mate
Lol man I do it all the time mate so don’t worry lol 😂
Well I’m impressed. What’s your diary like?
Pretty full tbh depending on what your looking for
Hate keyboard warriors, I’m a wannabe painter and with all your great videos I’m getting better🤔lol Keep up the good work.
Lol good to hear buddy and thanks for becoming a member too mate
Nice job
Thankyou Larry
Nearly time for the money shot bro 😁😁😁😁
Lol 😂
Nice 👍
Thanks
Great work as always! That's a lot of work that's why the body shops doesn't like to work with the classic cars so they want the easy and fast money with cars insurance.
By the way tony!did you know if pmp supplies is going to be back in bussines?they had a very good prices and too many limited edition spray guns i know there is another sponsor now but they don't have sagolas and many other spray guns.
Hey mate and thanks , it’s the same guys buddy as before just a new name mate
no wanna be painter puts on a sealer then 2k and then sand it flat again. great job. this how the pro do it.
Thanks buddy
Hi mate, I'm a bit curious as to why you've epoxied this as its not been stripped and to bare metal? Whats your method behind it as being a painter myself and from my knowledge of products id personally only use epoxy over bare metal before filler then high build?
- I'm not here saying you're wrong by the way genuinely interested as I may learn something new
*disclaimer* not watched all the way through yet so if you have said in the video then my bad lol
lol no problem at all man take a look at the video i did first on this where we just shot epoxy on the van over the old paint ect and i explained why in detail in that
I'll have to see what we have in our market, I like this idea...and next up for paint is a 78 westy....I like seeing the shine and reflection in the light....paints are expensive. 20-30K pounds for paint ? Not in my budget...thanks for this video.
Exactly mate not everyone has that kinda cash to throw at a repaint on one of these
Looking good Tony, not bad for a wannabe painter 🤣 seriously tho, like I've said in the past all the work you do is top draw who ever says differently is obviously smoking crack. Love watching your videos and inspired me to paint my van, have a great wk end dude and sink some nice coffees 👌🤙👍
Lmfao that made me chuckle that one man lol hope you are well mate
Don't worry about the keyboard warriors dude, great work as always!!
Lol I don’t buddy
Great video as always Buddy!
I am late to the party on this one but am making my way through them all
Its disappointing that you have to come out and explain yourself to people who blatantly either don't know what they are talking about or are just looking for a fight....well handled!!!
Keep at it!!
Lol thanks mate and unfortunately that’s just being a creator mate people think we all wana be paid off for stuff but some of us have morals and standards
@@TonysRefinishingTV Keep on as you are dude!
Don’t take any notice of the keyboard warriors I think your doing a fantastic job, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Ian and usually I don’t mate tbh but this one just bubbled me at the ignorance of it
Very nice work sir, I enjoy watching you at work along with your descriptions. Re the so called experts (Keyboard Jerks) you don't need to explain to the skintubes, It's really not worth your time. As you said quite eloquently, you and your colleagues live in the real world. All the best to you and yours for the new year. 🙂
Lol to true buddy and glad you enjoyed the video
Bus is looking great Tony! I bet if you put that bus and one taken down to bare metal next to each other the armchair experts wouldn't be able to tell which was which once they've been primed!
Lol that mate is very true buddy
for sure sometimes I would rather keep the original undercoats there too for better protection if they are not compromised. useing that epoxy as a sealer gives it better adhesion and a strong seal coat under the primer. Kind of like another coat of steel.
👍👍👍
Hi Tony. you prob won't get to many negative comments this week most of them are queuing for fuel :)
Lmfao your not wrong there mate lol
Is that high build blue lol or is it the camera colour and its just grey?
Also will epoxy help from paint edges coming back through the primer?
It’s grey mate did look an odd grey though but the camera will also alter the colour abit yeah , and yes the epoxy will seal all the paint edges down properly
The panels look pin straight to me . It will looks the bollocks when its blocked and painted well done mate.
thanks jimmy and yeah it should look awesome when its done i hope
nice gun mate. what is it?
Sagola 3300gto mate
Gotta feel for those keyboard ninjas, they more than likely aspire to paint but lack the fortitude or will to try resulting in them directing the dislike they have for themselves at others doing what they wish they could do. Substrate up restorations are great but the cost and time involved can quickly become astronomical plus with advancements in chemical technology it is not necessary. Your work always looks great plus you put yourself out there to help others which is awesome.
Thanks man and very true words too fella
Dynamite
Thanks buddy
who the hell would say you are a wannabe!?🤡 honestly if he/she is so good why the hell is he/she bothering watching you. He/she should have his/her own channel educating us all on how it should be done 😂
I wouldn't even let them idiots piss you off fella.
Keep us the awesome work we all appreciate the hell out of it. 🤟
Absolutely awesome work. Sod the keyboard warriors.
Lol I will thanks man
Tony, I know are doing a good job & putting plenty of time into this job & this isn't a troll rant, but stripping a bus to bare metal with paint stripper & a bit of 40g is not a weeks work, 2 days max 1 person, if you didn't do the roof.
@@TonysRefinishingTV Exactly, it would be absolutely amazing though if it was just a matter of getting the paint off.
Wouldn’t it just mate
@@TonysRefinishingTV I do restore cars & I run my own business, as you know there are digital paint gauges that tell you paint thickness so can detail areas prior to stripping back, also bore scopes for getting into cavities, these are the methods I use to investigate my jobs, but I do restoration, not general painting as you do. I like what you do mate, not knocking it.
