- Make this awesome and chich boho granny square purse. All you need is worseted weight yarn (size 4) and your best hook! I used size 4.5 but does size REALLY matter?
This bag would make a great gift for people of any age. Join me, subscribe for MORE crochet projects
I think I forgot to mention hook size! I am using a 4.5mm hook but this project is flexible and you can use any comfortable size. ❤
Sorry what yarn you used? I am in Australia and we dont have beautiful yarn like USA and UK😥😥
@@RosegarlandCreations i used caron cakes cinnamon swirl but you can use any worstes weight yarn
I used a yarn available in Cambodia, not prime quality, as it all comes from either China, Vietnam, or Thailand. I combined a polyester yarn with variegated wool, with a crochet #5 or 8mm. 10 rounds. In fact, one can choose whatever yarn and adapt the crochet hook. I really ❤️ the unusual pattern for a bag. I don't particularly like granny squares, but I will use them more often to create different shapes for my projects. Thank you so much for the inspiration
Thankyou, I just learning and I really like this for me. @@MrsStewartCC
Oops I used 3.5 but it's ok
Took about 6 hours for me to finish the whole thing, so amazing and fun to make, I LOVE this pattern so much, thank you for sharing!!!!
Wow thats amazing! Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for including seaming on the strap!! I'm making a bunch of different granny square bags for my friends for xmas and this tutorial has made it so easy!!
I made this using a 4.5 m hook, 4ply yarn in blue and brown and oh my lovely. Thanks so much
I'm in love with this bag.
Literally my first project and I finished in 2 days!!
Its nice to start strong. Good confidence boost. If you can do this you can do other granny square projects! Good work
I love how this bag turned out!!! I’m a complete beginner, this was my second project and I was able to finish it in about 4 days! Thank you for the easy to follow real time tutorial!
That's great! Its nice to have a completed project!
Turned out very nice in white, grey and pink. Love the bag. Thank you for the tutorial and your effort.
I finished mine in just a few days! Thanks for your easy to follow instructions and the opportunity to use yarn from my stash. I'll be looking for more of your tutorials in the near future. 🥰
I am thrilles to hear it! How fun crocheting can be 😄
Ooh, I absolutely love the simplicity of this! I can't wait to try it. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you so much. I know you can do it!
Thank you for this tutorial! I have made 2 bags now! One with 2 strands and it worked up quite large and the other smaller for my Granddaughter. I just love this pattern, so easy. Thanks ❤❤
I made one and it came out beautifully, thank you, I never knew just how much could be done with granny squares
@MrsStewartCC I am so very grateful for your amazing tutorials. I have memory issues and so of course every time I want to make a granny square or anything else I have to rewatch the video step-by-step every single time however, I am very happy that you have the type of tutorial that you have because I can hear your voice and see your steps over and over again, and it’s always a pleasant and calming feeling Thank you so much.🎉🎉🎉
What a lovely comment. Glad you could crochet with me
Absolutely love this bag, definitely going to crochet one for sure 👍👌❤️🙏🏻
Awesome! I think it is a really quick project and definitely useful
I love this! I made with so many pretty colours.. it's so easy! Thank you
I have just started this pattern about 2 hrs ago and im almost done with my first square! So far its coming out so very cute, simple and works up pretty fast. Thank you, ill be looking forward to seeing what other patterns you have
Love it. Only need to sew the strap on. I used autumn colors to keep in the retro vibe of the 70s. Considering adding a flower to one of the peaks. Thank you for the pattern 🙂
so beautiful! definitely trying it out!
Love this pattern, just finished my first bag x thank you so much for such a clear tutorial, best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
Very cute ! I used colors to make it look like watermelon and added seeds into the strap 😂😁 super cute thanks for the tutorial :)
Great idea!! Summer vibes
It took me 2 days to complete! Thank you so much for the video. You made it so easy 🥰
Superfast! You got into the zone
Love this bag made a matching bucket hat to go with it❤
So glad to hear it. Crocheting is so fun!
wow i LOVE granny square projects so this was SUCH a fun and stress free project to do after work lol! Thank you for being so concise and clear its hard to find great tutorials like this! lots of love from CA!
Thank you for that nice comment
Beautiful bag thank you for sharing ❤❤
Wonderful tutorial, thank you
Hi I just found you and I’m going to give this bag a try. It’s lovely.
I’ll let you know how I make out.🇨🇦
Me encanta lo fácil que lo haces.
If you make half a corner in the beginning of your rounds and finish it at the end you will be in the corner to start your next round and you don't have to slip stitch to get there.
Good tip!
What do you mean by half a corner?
Half a corner. 3 double crochets instead of 3 doubles, chain 2 and 3 double crochets. Finish the corner at the end of the round.
I love the granny square it's very beautiful
This is beautiful!!
Thanks! Try it 😀
I feel like seeing that 3rd panel be stitched was extremely needed since it’s more complicated stitching something to something else when it’s curved like that
Gorgeous!! 🤗😍
You can do it!!
this is the best tutorial ever! thank you so much for taking the time to make this. my friend will love her new bag!
Thank you for the kind comment! I appreciate that. Happy crocheting!
thank you for a great tutorial! I just finished the bag (my first ever crochet bag), it took about a week, but each granny square took me about a day
Yay!!
Took me a few days but I only worked on a little bit at a time. Each square took me about 25 minutes. I love how it turned out!! Thank you for sharing the pattern, you made it very easy to follow. I think I want to try and sew on a liner on the inside so nothing falls through the holes.
It can be done! I have since made other bags that I sewed a lining for. Just get some fabric and measure to fit. I used a SEWING MACHINE to attach mine. It was a scary moment but it worked!
Ja robię inne torby na szydełku i również przyszywam podszewkę ale ręcznie , wszystko przy torbach robię ręcznie 😊
Wow 25 minutes per square is super fast!
This is lovely. I will try it today! Thank you. ❤
You can do it!! Let me know how it goes
I made this. I used orange and blue. I also did a border. It is so cute. I will be doing some more in different colours and I also want to do it using the solid granny square. I will also be making ruffled bucket hats to go with them. Thank you for sharing this super easy and extremely lovely pattern.
I am happy you liked it. I love a simplr pattern like this.
thank you !! it turned out great
Wooo! Great
this was so helpful!! you explained every stitch the simplest n easiest way possible. i love my bag💓💓
Beautiful work
Amazing 😮and very easy thank youuu ❤❤❤
Glad you liked it!! I hope to post more in the next few weeks
Hi Margaret from South Africa,❤ I love this bag and you explained it perfectly for a beginner like myself.
Thank you so much, you are a great teacher❤
🌹
Mine turned out a bit loose but Im still pretty new to crochet! love the look of it and love the design! Took me like 3 days in total
@@Dominique3986 if you try again maybe go down a hook size? You could also put a lining. I suggest a rectangle lining that lines up with the open point.
Awesome fantastic work love this video thanks for sharing,❤❤❤
Soooo beautiful thanks for sharing
Mine turned out pretty good. Your instructions were great. I guess it did take about six hours. I was surprised that it took so long since it was granny squares, but they are big granny squares and I think the weight of yarn is not quite a #4. Also, I used an F hook, which is smaller than recommended, but I was trying not to line the bag so I wanted, the granny squares close together. Thank you for taking the time to film and post this.
So glad it worked out for you. It is a very versatile pattern
Thank you for sharing. New subscriber 💗
I love color combination ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you! It is a colour changing yarn from Caron cakes. Cinnamon swirl is the name. I like continual crochet without having to worry about changing colours
Thank you for this beautiful bag pattern, I didn't catch what size the handle was supposed to be though but I got it!
Handles....its a tricky thing. I usually just go until i like it. Sometimes long and sometimes short. I am glad you got something hand made by you that you like!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful pattern ❤ please post more bags 😂 they all in different languages
Love it ❤
Give it a try!
I just finished it and the result is very cute 🤍🤍
So nice to hear!! It is a great pattern to get into crochet
Thank you,i love my work lovely
You’re welcome 😊
Made it in a couple of days (with interruptions), working afternoons mostly. So very easy to make. I sewed a button on and a crochet chain to close it as I find the opening too wide for safety's sake.
Great idea! It is a satisfying project. Thank you for your comment 😁
Wonderfull ❤
I am an absolute beginner, I made 3 small granny squares as my first project and wasn’t sure what to do with them. I saw a video on tiktok about this type of bag, and immediately found your tutorial on here!! I finished in about 2 days, but I made my squares and strap just a bit smaller haha. I used a 5 mm hook and 4 ply acrylic yarn! (Might size down in hook size in the future as it kept getting caught, not sure if it was my fault or the hook’s!!)
Thats awesome!! Its a great feeling to have a nice finished project. You can do this kind of bag with ANY type of granny square. Congrats on your first project
Very nice thans ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Took me from 2-10pm to do one and a half squares and then it took me from 4-10pm to do the other squares + sewing them together!
Amazing!
If you want to put a flap on it. Can it be done. Nice work 😁
Cute
This is beautiful! How many skeins of yarn did this take? You may have mentioned and I missed it
I used just one but it was a big one. I think i used a caron cake cinnamon swirl. I think it was a 400 yard ball but I didnt use the whole thing.
Thanks!
Wow thank you!
I absolutely love this! ❤
Give it a try! Great beginner friendly project that I think is totally doable. I like this kind of thing because it is something that can be finished
In the process of making this bag! Can't wait to see how it turns out. I am looking for various projects to make and sell. Would I be able to use your patterns to make items and sell them as long as I give you credit?
No credit needed! I try to make generic things. Good luck 😀
I love that may I ask what yarn you have used I love it
This is cinnamon swirl caron cake
Would I be able to keep going and make it a blanket ? I love the bag absolutely gorgeous
My first project as a new crocheter was a giant granny square that i made into a baby blanket for my daughter. I think it is a great idea. Big confidence boost to have a lovely completed project 🙂
I finished this and it is amazing I'm trying to send a picture
I have a fb group mrs stewarts crochet club
do you think a single crochet join would work rather than whipstitch? absolutely love this bag and just have three squares to join myself!!
Yes it will work. I have another bag here that i joined with a single crochet. I love both options.
I like this bag because having a completed project is so satisfying. Joining 3 squares is not so scary. Sometimes I avoid projects that are too much assembling
@@MrsStewartCC thank you so much for such a quick reply!! i’m soo excited to assemble mine and start on the strap i’ll probably do it tonight!
Butterfly bag
Hi, I’m a beginner crocheter and I was using your pattern and your video for making this bag. This was my first time making such a bag and it was actually enjoyable but I have a little problem and if you don’t mind, I’m gonna share it here. maybe it would be some other peoples problem too Well actually as I saw in the video your bag looks like you know a bit more stable and you know somehow safe to put things in it but my bag the parts that it’s gonna be open. It’s like a bit loose and I don’t feel safe putting things in it. It’s a bit like the upper part is a bit loose and bigger I don’t know why cause I actually did what you said so can you help me with that like I wanna know where did I go wrong thank you.
I think the solution is to add a liner. I will try to make a video about how to do that. Sew a piece of fabric to fit on the inside. I will attempt to make a video about this, this weekend
great pattern! Thanks! can we put lining too???
I tried to line each triangle. I think it is more practical to make a rectangular lining for the sides and bottom
@MrsStewartCC great idea thank you 😊 🙏
Aloha! I missed your comment with your hook size. I just used the recommended hook size. It took me two days as I was determined to finish it. It came out so lovely. I do have a question, though. How do you prevent items from falling out?
Hi, i am going to do a quick video about adding a lining. I haven't had any problems with items falling out but a lining will make more peace of mind. I will try to have it out this weekend
❤
I don't understand how to change colors. Slip into the next stitch, then finish off? So i change color there?
You would attach in the chain 2 corner space. Chain 3, 2 dc, chain 2, 3 dc - all in the same space. I am sorry i didnt film that. Start in a corner
You explained it really well and am almost done with mine! But as a beginner am a little confused bout the sewing part.Do we hve to just continue sewing the the first two squares cut the yarn and then join the bottom square with the third square or do we just not cut it and continue sewing the bottom and third square? I am really srry if this is confusing I just dont know how to explain lol
Good question. Don't cut the yarn if you don't have to. Keep going. I really just "did it". Just fold the squares into triangles and do the best you can. I made this video a year ago and I wish in retrospect I showed the sewing better. I was new to filming. It might help to just stitch markers to hold the edges together...
@@MrsStewartCC Tysmmm! Mine looks soo pretty! And you did a GREAT job doing the filming btw!;D
I love the colours used and am enjoying making this. I want to know the dimensions.
What should the size of one granny square be?
I measured this last week...its about 11×11....it will depend on your yarn and hook size too
Thank you. So I am using hook size 3.5 for this yarn. I will see to it that 1 side measures 11 inches.
Is this a cotton or acrylic yarn? Pretty
Acrylic it is called Caron Cakes cinnamon swirl
hii thanks for this
You could add a lining or use two strands of yarn at the same time....?
Very nice video! Since I’m going to be using a different ply yarn, what is the size of the square?
I am not sure! I will measure when i get home. I just went to as large as I wanted but I will definitely let you know
I would like to know the size of the square too :) I used 4mm hook and slightly thinner yarn, so my 10 rounds turn out a smaller square. Thanks! @@MrsStewartCC
It is about 10x10 inches. Sorry i had to steal it back from my daughter 🤣
I am so sorry I forgot about this comment!!
thats a really pretty bag but i have a question. Can i use two ply for this project for it to be sturdier because i dont want it to stretch too much. Or is one strand enough?
Thats a great idea. You could also add a lining if youd like.
Super cute 🩷
Which Caron Cake series did you use? Cinnamon Swirl?
Thats the one. They are all nice though
Once you have finished the first few rows, do you conti ue to slip stitch to start a new round or do you just keep going?
I do it that way. I like to start from a corner
hello!! how do we easily transition to another yarn when we change colors? I always seem to have a problem with that. and also, does this have a pattern and written instructions? I'm planning on making this as my final project in school 🥹
I have another video with a granny square where i change colours. Ultimately you are going to fasten off at the end of each round and reattach your new colour where you want to start...chain 3, 2 dc to get the first cluster. I don't have a written pattern myself but maybe on pinterest you can find one?? Sorry about that. Good luck! I am planning to do a lining very soon for this bag
@@MrsStewartCC tysm!
How do I finish off the granny square; do I need to weave the end tails through the square ??
Yes weave in the ends and then sew together 🙂
Does it need to be lined? If not, does it keep its shape?
You don't have to. I have kept mine in shape for almost a year. It would be that much better lined though. I recently learned how to sew a lining in with my sewing machine. I do it with the fabric on the top and yarn on the bottom
Do you have a written pattern for this? With yarn used etc. would really help. I’m a knitter this is going to be my first crochet project
@@LilMsMalevolent i am sorry I personally don't have it written. I used almost a whole skein of Caron Cakes cinnamon swirl. I think something like 300 yards....
That helps… thanks
Hi. I’m using a #3 yarn so, I’m going to need more than 10 rows. Will you please tell me how big the squares are? How many inches across? Thanks so much.
Hi the squares are about 12 x 12
Size 3 yarn you would have to go more rounds to reach the same size
@@MrsStewartCC wow! That was fast. Thanks so much for the info. I’m working on this project now. It’s so cute. Thank you for your video!
Could you please tell the measurement of each granny square in cms?
My yarn is not very bulky so the size may help more than the number of rows
Its about 30 cm × 30 cm
How much yarn needed pls
Does this use just one thing or yarn?
I used one caron cake for this.
How did you stitch the last square?
I just seamed it the same way as the first.
Hi
Just a small doubt,
When we start a new round, why do we have to do 3 chains as a double crochet?
Why not do a double crochet itself?
I'm also using a variegated yarn and the pattern is absolutely beautiful, but just had this doubt
You need to do the chain 3 to get to the height of a double crochet
@@MrsStewartCC I started directly with a DC by mistake , is that fine?
The square does seem fine though
@@maluaravind8810 if it works then it works :) this is what crocheting is about....
Please attach the link from where you buy these yarn
I bought it from Michaels. I bet if you google "caron cakes" a lot of options will pop up. I don't like to buy my yarn online cause I need to feel it first 😀
Are you going to line that?
It is possible. I made this so long ago and use it unlined. I havent had any issues. I am not a great sewer but i will try
@@MrsStewartCC thank u
Cuantos ovillos usaste en total?
I used a caron cake cinnamon swirl. Maybe about 300 yards...
What type of yarn did you use
I used caron cakes cinnamon swirl...it is a worsted weight or size 4
I’m new to crochet. Which yarn is this? My multi color didn’t come out this way.
Hi, i am using caron cakes with the bame "cinnamon swirl". You could use any colour changing yarn or you could finish off and rejoin each row. I just thought it is easier to keep going with a yarn that will change on its own. I think if check out caron cakes you might find something you like. I hope that helps.
It does! Thank you
Well explained.... I'm from India ❤
Lovely bag I found the yarn you used in another response to a comment. I love the bag.
How many rows did you make the handle
Hmm i can't remember. I think it was around 100. You may want to measure how long you want yours and crochet until you reach that length
@@MrsStewartCC thank you!
is there a written pattern? x
I personally don't have a written pattern. Next video I make I will try to write out the steps. This was one of my first videos when I started youtube and I didnt know how to do captions. 😀 learning
how much tarn did you use??? i dont know how much to buy online
Hi I used almost one whole skein of the caron cakes cinnamon swirl. The label says 407 yards. It was less than that but not by much
@@MrsStewartCCthank you so much❤️❤️
