For those having issues, or wondering how to figure out what size to make your purses, try using a newspaper flyer, like the ones in your mailboxes? Fold them 1st in the shape she shows in the video, to see what size they make. Just pick ANY page. Then go from there. When you've got the size of paper "purse" you want, chain the # of chains, w/out stretching it out too much!, (you'll want an even #+1 I believe. Don't worry about that extra ch if I'm wrong!). Keep a square piece of that paper. It'll serve as your "model" for the height of the rectangle you'll crochet for your purse! WRITE in it what you're doing w/ that piece of paper or I'll guarantee it'll get thrown away!! 😭 Write out how many crochet chains of LENGTH it represents, & eventually how many ROWS you'll have crocheted. Mentioning the yarn you used & WHICH HOOK. Think I'm crazy? Each yarn + the hook will give you a different result for a project. Even your mood, time of day, whether you'd had a fight w/ a neighbor, friend, slide, child (adult, little, adolescent, or tween), every little thing will affect how your project will turn out. Happy, sad, hungry or not, tired or relaxed, such or healthy that day, or pain level if you're chronically ill. Even the weather. You are creating ART, & fabric, w/ your hands & fingers, so the tension in your extremities will be reflected in what you make. Happy hooks, my dears! ❤

This is great! I just wish the transition from single to double stitch was slower. I'm a little confused about that part. So we are skipping a stitch, doing a single stitch and then a double stitch, in the same stitch?

Thank you Briana K 👏 Love this bag ❤ I've made one using a solid colour now I'm trying stripes. Did you do 2 rows of colour A and B and 6 rows of colour C?
It's also about tension, & possibly stitches. Turning chains should: 1st) be as tall as the stitches they represent in the row. E.g.: if they represent a DC (US terms), then the Standard is 3 chains, if it's too be for a sc (US terms) then just 1 chain, etc. 2) if you ARE using the right # of chains, but you're making them too tightly, OR just generally your tension is too tight, you can do 1 or more things: learn a different way to hold the yarn (I did this!), use a different size hook than suggested for the yarn or the project (I've done this too!), OR, finally, just keep practicing your tension w/ different projects where tension doesn't matter, like wash cloths made w/ cheap yarn that doesn't bother your hands, which I did when I took up crocheting after more than 30 yrs away. I bought a LOT of cotton yarn on clearance (the colors didn't matter!) from a good site, and made a bunch of patterns & used them to practice tension & stitches. And I kept undoing them ALL! Annoyed my roommate, for some reason, but I didn't care. I just kept making mistakes, until I made fewer & fewer, & suddenly started making pretty things. ❤ Just a thought. Good luck!!
Hi I’m having trouble with the seaming of the bag. Every time I fold it, the 2 sides are uneven. Frogged it and tried to redo it but I’m still having the same problem. Do you have any tips or advice on how to seam the bag properly? 🥺
What are the dimensions of the rectangle before folding. If there is not a "set measurement I guess it's possible to free hand it by constantly checking
I started making this purse and noticed it was really long measured it and it was 44 inches long instead of 30 so I tore it all back out and started over. My 30 inches added up to 79 chains. Can I do that?
You can use cotton/bamboo combos, but generally speaking, most creators like using cotton bc of sturdiness, that it doesn't fray (where the fibers didn't split apart easily like synthetic fibers do), but also cost effectiveness comes into play. If you have access to a lot of wool, or wool garments you can recycle into this kind of project instead of, say mittens or hats which would be much more useful, then you're lucky. But synthetics like acrylic or polyesters have too much stretch (elasticity). This bag wouldn't look nice when you start putting things in of any weight. Alpaca, or any of the other natural, fibers are also quite expensive, & their properties would be wasted on a project that's to be worn like this, rather than to "protect" the body. ❤
