Zaine Griff - CARS - Live at The Water Rats London - 10 jan 2025

One of the songs of Zaine Griff’s album A DOUBLE LIFE, he made together with CHRIS PAYNE, released in 2024, and performed live at The Water Rats London at 10 January 2025.
Zaine Griff knows Chris Payne since he worked with him on Gary Numan’s album BERSERKER in 1984, on which Zaine sings backing vocals in the song THE SECRET and parts of vocals in other songs.
Chris Payne played with Gary Numan already in Tubeway Army and many years after that in Numan’s solo career, also in live shows.
Zaine Griff and Chris Payne came together again in 2020, when Rusty Egan planned a Visage 40 years concerts and album project and asked both Chris Payne (who is one of the co-writers of Visage’s famous hit FADE TO GREY) and Zaine Griff, who was asked to be the frontman of this new Visage project, since Steve Strange had passed away.
But because of the Covid pandemic the project was cancelled, but Zaine Griff and Chris Payne kept working on songs, later joined by American musician Hilary Bercovici. Each person from their own studio, because of Covid lockdown limitations.
The result was a beautiful album: A DOUBLE LIFE, with many great songs about peoples relations. And a lot of extra songs:
New versions of Zaine’s This Strange Obsession, his song he once sung on YMO’s Yukihiro Takahashi’s album What Me Worry, Flowers ánd three coversongs of wellknown artists Zaine Griff had cooperated with in his career: David Bowie, Yukihiro Takahashi and Gary Numan.
From Gary Numan, with Chris Payne he recorded the famous song CARS, which is one of the 5 songs of A DOUBLE LIFE that was performed live in Zaine Griff’s show in The Water Rats.
