    The map I used was only meant as an animation to display the size of China not to accurately display or comment on its exact borders. Sorry for any misunderstandings. Taiwan is on my bucket list of places to visit if anyone has any suggestions on where to go and what to do! :)

      wow, you will never know what a Right map mean to Chinese people. That can not be compared to an America draw a map but forget Alaska or Hawaii. I watched a video that New Zealand people protested that world map lost/forget or mis-cut out the islands just near Australia as well.

    • @yerri5567
      @yerri5567 7 років тому +8

      +Meri Ameni I understand what you are trying to say. But if someone asks you to put a map of USA on a video. You most likely will not put alaska, hawaii, and other territories of USA on it

      As a Chinese who loves my motherland, I say ignore the people criticizing you about the map(from both sides). try not to get into politics, that's a can of worm you don't want to open.
      Chinese netizens on youtube deals with smear campaigns against China all the time. so naturally they are very sensitive about political issues.
      be the happy go lucky vlogger that you are, China is a continent disguised as a country have fun exploring it. safe travels in China and beyond =)

    Poppy thank you so much for creating videos to clarify some misconceptions about china and sharing your experience in our country. I ve been lurking in youtube for a long time and you are the first youtuber to whom I wanna shout out thanks because I love your contents and they make me appreciate my country so much more. There are definitely many problems to solve in China and there is no doubt a gap between China and Western developed countries. But despite of it, it is more of a charming land than not, which many people from the west are not aware of. Thank you again and please contact me if you plan to come to Beijing :) (where I was born and am living now)

      +Fayt Strife What do you know about China have you ever even been there? You sound so delusional. She never said China doesn't have any problems with pollution she just said not all of China is polluted which is absolutely correct, in fact many cities and places in China are not. I suggest you visit these places before talking about them, as a Chinese I can tell you not only does Shenzhen not feel too crowded, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing and most other cities in China do not, all of them are well planned with wide streets, plenty of space between buildings and lots of plantation+greenery.

    • @jzvr5842
      @jzvr5842 7 років тому +10

      +Fayt Strife After taking a look at your liked videos I genuinely feel sorry for you, liking videos with titles like "Woman tells Chinese woman to go back to China" and content from China Uncensored etc. it's pretty clear you're brainwashed beyond belief. There is no point in trying to show the truth to someone who just covers their eyes and says they're blind.

    I absolutely love that you pointed the misconceptions. I'm from New Zealand but my mums Chinese and I go back there every year because the country is so incredibly stunning, people always ask me why you go back there - its so crowded and polluted.. for me, everyone just thinks that I'm only saying good things about China is because I'm Chinese but I actually love that place so freaking much. Thank u so much for making this video!!! 💕

    • @caligoclarus
      @caligoclarus 7 років тому +5

      The primary difference is short timers like her in the honeymoon phase, vs. vloggers that have been here for years and actually know what's up and aren't running on "new feeling" emotions.

    • @zeiitgeist
      @zeiitgeist 7 років тому +2

      Yeah, however the attitude of those who passed the honeymoon phase, is where the most whining begins and yet they still try to cling onto the 'do as romans do' idea and goes with the flow with an outsider's perspective rather than truly understanding the phenomenons and peculiarities that happen by immersing themselves in it, without prejudice.

    • @CrunchyButtBurger
      @CrunchyButtBurger 7 років тому +8

      Brande X no, the primary difference is that she's female and in China for pure fun, travel, and tourism whereas all those other vloggers are all males in China to teach English and get paid and laid. Even the videomaker's boyfriend will have a drastically better experience than let's say sexpatza, or laowhiner86. Every single female expat vlogging in China reports a far superior experience than the white male expats and I've yet to find a single girl that says otherwise.

    Most of Asian countries are crowded. That's the case , but very reasonable city planning by Shen zhen government since 1980s , so the streets are broad enough totally, and they constructed a lot of big parks , So Shen zhen looks not so crowded.

    You are so rocking these China videos, Poppy. Thank you for being another voice on this matter. The first time I was in mainland China was in 2010-2011. Going back to the U.S. and trying to explain these things was really trying at times. I swear I did the same SIZE face you did in this video, lol, cracks me up. Keep up the good work. There are good and bad things about every place and since there are already so many media opportunities to bash on China I am glad there are more and more people also showing the good sides as well.

    I figured out why I like your videos. There are three main reasons...
    1) You are fun, genuine, and never boring with some outstanding editing skills.
    2) Your videos are actually informative, with illustrations.
    3) Your videos are real life videos without any ulterior motives or implicit propaganda / programming (as in the mainstream media).

    If you are searching for seaside/beach/kind of things, you should go to the eastern part of Shenzhen. These two beaches: Xiao Mei Sha (小梅沙) & Da Mei Sha (大梅沙) are the best. West coast of Shenzhen is full of commercial ports, for big ships docking not for swimming.

    Frankly Shenzhen is not a place for some foreigners who are eager to explore Chinese culture. Beijing Hangzhou and Xi'an are the better combinations of the modernity and the traditions of China

    • @zeiitgeist

      However, foreigners show also bear in mind that every region is different and not some homogeneous whole, so Beijing, Hangzhou, Xi'an culture does not constitute as traditional china but a small part of traditional China tied with modernity.

    I'm so happy to watch videos like this that are showing the real China to the world. I lived in LA for 3 years and in Toronto, Canada for over a year now, and I learnt that even in a country that has a mosaic culture such as Canada, there's still tons of stereotypes against China. My colleague even said once 'I thought Chinese people don't like dogs', when I told her I like dogs. So, as I saw people walking their dogs in your video, it really makes me wanna show my colleague right away your video so that she could understand that most people there in China are just as normal people as they are. People wake up, people grab coffee, people go to work, and people go back home and have fun with their family and that's it, just normal life. Anyways, thanks so much for your videos, really love them.

If you like amusement parks, Huan le Gu (Happy Valley?) is definitely worth your time. If you like seafood, you need to go to Nan Ao, which has all the fresh seafood, and they are AMAZING. Nightclubs/bars (around coco park) are fun too if you are into it. Hope you enjoy your visit in SZ :)

    Macau, a small city near Hong Kong (and also a Special Administrated Region of China) has the population density of 21,236 people per sq km, which is ranked in the first place in the world. It's a gambling city, like Vegas, but also pretty beautiful. Maybe go and take a look some time ;) It's not far from Shenzhen.

    I was literately born and raised at this spot (shekou), and spent my early childhood in sea world (as my dad used to work there as the beach manager). While I'm currently living and working in NYC now, would love to catch up with you (and of course your man) when I travel back later this year. Enjoy Shenzhen, lovely town!

    I just copy and paste the same comment I left under your friend, travel light's video .
    Thank you for saying out loud what you really see and feel about China, not just listening to the comments from the medias or the other people. You and Travellight should travel around and see more of China, because there is just so much more for you to see and experience . I am living in Xiamen, Fujian Province, a much less modern and smaller city to the north east of Shenzhen, but also beautiful. Feel free to ask me for any advice if you ever come to visit Xiamen. Good luck and welcome to China ^.^

    Poppy if you like mountaining, you should go visit Nan Shan. It is right next to the sea world ! It is a much steeper experience than Lian Hua Shan ! :) And the exit of Nan Shan is right in front of the seaworld and you can just buy food and drink right away after exhausting yourself from mountaining. At least that what I did with my buddy when we were there, and in the torching August and it was not bad ! Looking forward for more videos Poppy :)

    go to Huaqiangbei, North. HQ mart to find a new tripod. I got a sturdy one for 30RMB. The heat gets more bearable the more time you stay here. People sleep during the day. ifyou want something just wake them up. I'm glad your enjoying China
