They are both beautiful but out of my price range. I raided my retirement fund for a 914ce and totally love it. Took me a lot of debate to do it, but no kids to put through college. My guitars are my kids 😉! And I take good care of them and play them every night. Maybe the 914 can be my urn lol. Nah, niece to leave it to would be better option. I'll just be dust in the wind!!

Guitar as urn... interesting idea. And I always thought the rattlesnake rattle was weird. Ashes is next level weird. LOL! - Chris

@@AlamoMusic LOL these Taylor guitars are heirlooms regardless of 5 or 10 grand. Just hope they love it as much as I do. I so enjoy your videos and look forward to each one. 💜

That’s a good idea but which of my 6 Taylors should I use? Damn!! That’s a tougher decision than deciding which one to play. 😂

I personally fascinated by tone woods and their effects on strings instruments.
I’m primarily an electric guitar player and of coursed noticed differences in instruments character as related to the wood used in their construction.
It wasn’t until I acquired a solid rosewood Telecaster that the scope of difference wood quality and type can make.
An amazing subject demonstrated here using amazing instruments, thank you for sharing this with us.

As a fingerstyle player who loves warm rich tones, I thought the macassar ebony would be better, but based on this sample, I preferred the Blackwood. What drool worthy guitars!

The Tasmanian Blackwood is so rich and full ... absolutely love the depth and complexity of the sound. The Macassar is also amazing, but I would have to pick the Tasmanian Blackwood if forced to choose between these two incredible instruments

They are both beautiful! Delightful tone and volume.❤
I could never afford one of these. I will keep on enjoying my Taylor 114ce. ❤

Last Time I got dramatically in love with the Taylor 314ce that had quilted sapele or SMT like that. Now you guy come over with these outstanding guitars. I can hardly believe that these almost perfect guitars exist

If I'm being honest, I think the inlay is a little busy for my personal taste. Not to take anything away from the beauty of these guitars. The appointments are absolutely out of this world. Taylor has done such an amazing job on the presentation series. I don't know that I would ever own one, but perhaps some time in the future. That will always be the dream.

The sound of both guitars is amazing!! I could never afford either guitar! I personally prefer macassar eboney. Both are out of this world beautiful and the most amazing sounding! Great job Chris!

The PS14CE LTD sounds like a grand piano darker with a wider sound stage as in more depth and breath to it. The PS14ce sounds lighter a less wide sound stage as the bass is less pronounced and more compression with a more central tonal palette. I prefer the PS14CE LTD tonal palette. Really nice demo.

This is a great comparison! I am kinda old school with a ear that is a snob ;) I'm blessed to own an PS-14 Older (PSGA) with Engelmann/Brazilian that holds a tone in my heart from some of the newer stuff being different. I know this is differences how they where built from todays guitars from Taylor. I know you will appreciate Chris, Thanks for everything you guy's do with video's.

Now I feel special. Own a custom Phoenix nylon string guitar with sinker redwood top & Palo escrito back and sides with a 3 piece maple neck. A beautiful guitar I have had over ten years. It is not quite a decked out but I also paid no where near the Taylor’s. I would love to play them though. Beautiful!

Qualify that even with headphones, UA-cam folds and spindles audio/video so much that what we hear on our computers/headphones does not reflect what you will hear in person. On my headphones I hear the somewhat deeper low end compared to a 'standard' Taylor. The ebony/redwood combination seems muted, reminding me of the 714CE LTD that I owned for a time (KOA/Cedar). I seem to hear more chime/brightness with the blackwood/redwood combination with slightly more chime and sustain.
    YMMV

Love both instruments. They are definitely soloist quality instruments. The choice would depend on the person playing. They both carry the sound I listen for when I hear steel stringed acoustic guitar. The trebles, midrange, base ring with the same authority as high quality each Guitar

Hi Chris, Ps14ce is kind of most expensive Taylor Guitar in the world, I have a 224ce Koa Deluxe special edition.

  • @jmpascoe
    @jmpascoe Рік тому

I think the Tasmanian Blackwood (PS14CE) sounds much flatter with a tighter bass response. Honestly though, I can't say either of these sound better than some guitars one third of the price. They're seem to be more of a show piece than an instrument. But like the guys said, if you have the money and want something nice to pass down as an heirloom, these are both pretty cool.
    Great video too. Very entertaining.

Metallury? lines? I think that’s what my 314ce L4 has in the Sitka Spruce. Like rows of rice crispy shapes perpendicular to the grain? Never knew what to call it.

I knew people who would get the old wood logs in the river where i live back in the 90s..It was wood that use to be Draved on that river about a hundread years before..As far as i know they had no problems getting it and selling it as that wood was a big reason for the pollution of these rivers. Was prolly maple, im not sure, thats in Quebec Canada.

I’m not sure what you think of when you say heirloom. These are totally unproven wood combinations. Heirloom instruments are timeless in sound and construction. Sitka and rosewood, and other more common pairings, are the de facto combinations of heirloom guitars of the past. A d 18 is an heirloom instrument. It is not ornate, nor does it have some special wood combo. It is simply a finely crafted instrument. Even an aesthetic comparison between this and a d45 isn’t all that close to me. These, and other Taylor guitars in the high end, are gaudy as all hell. I see these and think zoot suiter were as a d18, and even a d45, is more akin to the tried and true Italian three piece suit. Of course they are very well made guitars but, you misuse the concept of heirloom in my opinion, while throwing shade at the father of heirloom acoustic guitars, Martin. You also explain how this wood combo is darker and compressed and then try to claim it is also bright and chimey while not being too chimey etc. It ends up sounding like a sales job where the salesman tries to convince you that while it does have a niche, it also can do anything any other instrument can do.
