  • This is a Leather Viking Age Pouch design from the Gokstad Burial Mound. The Pattern is available from my links below. The construction of this pouch is estimated and there are a couple interpretations of it. Enjoy!

What kind of mask would you like to see if I'm thinking of doing some halloween mask patterns?

Some creepy insect inspired mask would be awesome. Though I have no idea how it supposed to look :D

Personally, I'm partial to the Japanese theatre masks (and of course the samurai style as well). You can find some great stuff about traditional Japanese theatre and it's really interesting. I don't know if the Norse used any kinds of leather masks back in the day but maybe something with knotwork animals across the face would be interesting.

A Japanese Oni spirit mask would be cool.

Thats a great idea. I think a crow or wolves mask would be cool. In a dangerous looking way maybe.

This would be cool for larp and things. Especially for the bards, merchants, and healers.

Ancient functional masks would be great, of course if there were anything like that in the past

Really cool pouch. I like the blue with the deer skin. Looks dope! :)

Hey Richard. For deerskin I like your pull technique. But for those center chunks that gave you issues? Just use good leather sheers.
    Less of a headache.

Not sure I could manage sheers in that tight space very well but something to try for next time for sure.

For your knife issue, get some EXacto knives. Inexpensive and large assortment

Use exacto-knives. They work wonders on leather!!!

If it folded over the other way too, that would work as the 'closed' position, so all those fancy rings didn't fall out as you were running away from muggers in the forest. Sorry, yep, after you said don't over think it and all that :)

Did you think about suede instead of wool.

The final product is really great, I prefer this variant of Gokstad pouch as well. Making one myself righ now. I just can’t watch how you use adhesive tapes and spray glue on historical pouches 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

A pork pocket! Sounds essential to me.
