    Man I love your work.
If I could only recommend one thing is that i would like someone wearing the end products.
Sometimes you wanna see how sick it really looks, haha.
    Great job as always.

In regards to Tokonole application, I utilize small applicator bottles with a long, blunt needle-shaped nose. A drop every centimeter or so, smear on with finger. Afterward, I use canvas to burnish. (I have used the same 4x6” canvas cloth for almost a year)

For tokinol I just use an awl. Dip it in and roll it on the edge.

tokonole . try using some foam/sponge .just dab it in tokonle and wipe of the excess. and you can cut it to a shape to suite how u want to use it

Try using Q-tips for the tolkenal on the edges and the make-up ones with pointed tips to get to the really fiddly spots when applying dye/coloring. Alternatively the fine paintbrushes in the paint section of any art area/store for detail work will give you similar ability for fine detail coloring or working the edges. The trick is to remember that just because something is marketed for a specific purpose does not make it the /only/ purpose.
As an example vasaline/aloe gel is a perfect blending tool when working with colored pencils.

Tokonole is the truth my friend! Much like your antique though, you don't need nearly as much as you're using. A little bit goes a long way, I will usually apply small dots of it along my edge (usually with just my finger) an inch or two apart and then smooth out with my finger before burnishing.

    Cool greaves!!
I like taping and cutting the paper as well... Even when I use a weight without tape, I tend to move around the leather a lot when I cut, which can shift the pattern. :S
I have a huge bottle of gum trag that will probably never get used again after I tried tokanol. :P It seems to work noticeably better.
I use an awl or my finger to put it on - you spread it on like I spread butter on toast, heheh.

Great vid as usual, got some Tokonole on order myself can’t wait to try it. I am pretty new to leather crafting, made a simple bracer for my first piece, working on a helmet currently. Got any advice for creating designs to tool onto leather? Trying to come up with my own Wolf design.

At the moment some fly by the seat of my pants prototype projects. Did do a couple of Dieselpunk's masks. Leather is running low so haven't been able to do much armor work. But here in a week or two I should be able to restock and grab some of your patterns. Definitely will be grabbing this pattern.

I believe they're called Leather Oblong Slot Punches

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  4 роки тому +1

@@cal0051 Has it correct, it's an oblong punch. You can get the same result (though of less quality) by punching 2 round holes then cutting a strip out between them if you're feeling cheap. BUT, practice a lot since you don't want to screw up your piece.

Watching the Japanese artisans they tend to use in order of preference; a fingertip, a flat glue spreader or a cotton bud (q-tip)

    Where the front of the greave meets the top of the foot;
This Lip needs to be flared.
Thete exist a nerve atop the foot that this edge will begin to dig into once user has been wearing & sweating in this armor.
The leather of a boot is not thick enough.
    The foot begins hurting.
    This affects the user's stryde.
Causing back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, & headaches.
The affects are gradual & will increase over time.
This pressure can damage this nerve.
I wear metal 16 guage mild steel greaves.
I had to replace my $450 soft period style boots with $450 8 inch high Red Wing biker boots.
    Harley Davidson makes them to.
    Mine have a composite toe.
Thus is Leather, some will protest.
Its Thick, heavy leather with a hardenned edge to prevent rotting away over time. This hardenned edge must be rolled up about a quarter turn.

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  3 місяці тому +1

Ya, I've never had that kind of a problem with something like like this. a 16 gauge steel greave is another story. In a perfect world a flare would be a great addition though, a little wet forming could do that.

@@DarkHorseWorkshop I really enjoy your sharing so many of your techniques & ideas.
The paracord works great for both showey color combos ( zesty flare ) and just having fun with your craft.
I've invested a lot in leather goods for many projects of my own.
And I hope shows like your's lights a fire in artisans BUTTS too do this work themselves.
I might use your paracord idea on some fantasy armor I'm creating.
You generate great ideas by revealing your own.
      I've had some thefts here.
Crapperheads whom do it for kicks & have me pegged for torture.
My art cones first behind security and chaos whenever I catch them.
Tandy released some crocadile & some snske pattern embassed cowhide in various thicknesses about ten to 12 years back.
Hoping its all still stored away.
I had no warning my then current muse would ever end. Founder passed away without ever cluing any of us in.
I knew he'd dog me about my fantasy side.
      My flare for showey coolness.
But he never let me fully explain my fire.
Its from way, way back in my TSR & RoleMaster role'playing days.
Bringing it all too life just a bit.
Just for myself to enjoy it. Maybe display it for a gallery, private or public.
These sh••BIRDS robbing me care not, nor had they a clue, would they ever Never pause their uglyness upon me.
I get so sick of people saying how they are gonna clean up America and the world.
      Well Stick It!!!!
Cause ugly people are HELL bent chaos for all! They don't care!!!
      No Empathy.
So, they saved pets world wide they'd have us all believe.
      No.
Instead, what they did was too make owning a pet such a FINANCIAL MONEY PIT that I must live without one.
      No room in any budget.
And no money for freeloaders seeking too sue anybody & everybody.
America needs too dumb all this down, so that lawyerscan't get FILTHY RICH off these lingerring ideas made public then mainstream.
As long as parents encourage their kids too mis-behave in public whether by ignoring them or showing them how too purues nieghbors, nobody is safe from any chaos.
Meanwhike we artists have our art purchased with honest money we each earned with our blood, tears, & sweat.
Hollywood makes rogues appealing too every young mind both child & adult.
Tthey just won't be expecting tge unexpected when their victims gets wise enough to intercept them when they visit without permission. Like, I don't know them hardly if at all, yet they believe they all know me from harrassing me.
I miss gearing up & exchangind blows.
      It doesn't fix anything.
Its just an outlet for the pain we endure while living free. A controlled atmosphere.
      Rules upon rules with Honor.
Nobody taking skills into the streets too beat defenseless pedestrians out for stroll.
      These mobs have no honor.
Just a bunch of Losers from out of state. Foriegn trash causing Americans paine and our drug using party crazy youths jumping on the riot band wagon.
Get a hobby & focus on achieving art.
      Leave the chaos verble.
Act out instead with positive art.
For fun or perhaps short career. J̌ust allow your artistry in making cool stuff enlighten others. Like our host.
