Got a Garmin 935 and very happy with it, but as an older runner with long-sightedness I'm sure the new AMOLED brighter/larger screens would be easier to read, so its a big plus. The 265 could be the choice for me in future on a black Friday deal or some discount.

Got the forerunner 955 so very similar in function to 965 but lesser display although that is a positive for battery life. Was in Crete last week so charged 955 before going and after 5 runs on holiday one week later battery was still at 52% on returning home. 955 currently has all that I need.

My 955 would lose about 12% a day if my memory is right. My 965 with brightness maxed is at 50% after seven days. For some reason the 955 loses a lot when in watch mode, but the gps battery life is more if you need it for long ultras.

    • @highseastrader4190
      @highseastrader4190 Рік тому

@@tonybowen455my 955 loses about 6-7% maximum per day (without the impact of GPS activities). I have minimal settings though (no notifications, no backlight, no Spo2... basically nothing except hour-date-battery-Body battery 😊).
Maybe your settings or (ConnectIQ) watchface were draining the battery life more than normal?

I have the Garmin Epix 2. I wanted a multi sport watch. I love the multi satellite feature for max. GPS accuracy and the amoled screen (you said it right.😉). The weight and size is fine as I don't sleep with it. Yes, it was stupid expensive, but I use it a lot and will keep it until the battery dies.

I switched to a Coros Apex Pro, had it over 2 years now and battery life is still amazing. Did nearly 26 hours of running last weekend using its Ultra GPS mode, prolonging the battery life and still have nearly 40% battery left near the end of it and still havent charged it. Considering its 2 years old Im impressed by it still,

I tried the Coros Apex pro 2 for two weeks, and really did like it. Two things were very annoying though, and I went back to Garmin 955. First, it did not offer a payment solution, such as Garmin Pay. The other thing that annoyed me, is that it didn’t tell me if my heart rate monitor belt was connected or not. If those twi issues were solved, I would prefer the Coros over Garmin.

As a short sighted runner I was tempted with the FR265/965 for the screen brightness. Have had a FR745 and a Fenix 5X (loved it!) but found the screens difficult to see. Have recently coined our for an Apple Ultra which I can set with big font and the super bright screen is great! Did the London Marathon in April with no hassle in battery - and the biggest plus is I can run without bringing my phone but still make a call and be reached if needed. But love the screen size and metrics in the 965.

I upgraded from a Fenix 6x Pro Solar to an Epix Gen 2, love everything about the watch apart from the reduced battery life compared to the Fenix but, unless I'm running something like a 100 mile Ultra, battery life won't come into it as long as I charge every few days

My only run watch is Garmin 255 (£250). Great watch has plenty of features for most runners. Battery lasts forever, fast locking GPS multi band more accurate than Coros (according to DC Rainmaker) , build quality excellent and will last me at least 5 years.
Only issue I have with Garmin is the smartphone app needs a major overhaul.

Garmin 255 music is the best watch on the market and why I bought one. The price, battery life the functions and lightness make it a package that still hasn't been beat imo. As a tool watch it's got everything for runners with some other activities thrown in.
The fancy new screen is nice but at the expense of battery life and a bit of a gimmick to tempt apple watch users and bumped the price up for zero benifit.

Just got the 965 having had the 935 and 945, I dont like heavy watches which is why have never gone for the Fenix range, especially as I sleep with it on. It was a toss up this time round for the 965 or Apple Ultra, 965 won out because the 965 is a dedicated running watch and the Ultra requires 3rd party apps to offer the same facility. The morning report is excellent along with training readiness, screen is great and so is the maps, v happy with it and would recommend, though it is pricey

I’ve got the Garmin Forerunner 55. It’s basic but does everything I need: GPS, count steps, heart rate, hooks up to Stryd, etc. I don’t listen to music when I run so I don’t need anything more, really. The only things I don’t like about it is I’m a bigger guy (6’2”, 200lbs) and it looks a little petite on my wrist, and since the screen is smaller it’s difficult for these aging eyes to read smaller numbers while running/bouncing along.

My wife bought me the 955 to replace my older Garmin Venu, as it needed charging at least every other day, so I looked at battery longevity for my running as I had started marathon training and travel away on work for a few days at a time. Music on the watch was one thing I wanted. In the end, I gave up on the AMOLED screen that the Venu had, as the 955 could be had (at the time) for £420. My wife being frugal found a 15% off first order offer and picked it up for under £360. I don't think that the display can justify the extra cost when the 955 and 965 are so similar. Still trying to sort out the in-race navigation settings though as I always seem to cock it up! 😅

Agree, I also got the 955 on a good deal 2 (379 euros) 2 weeks ago. In fact I even prefer the MIP screen cause it's more subtle and doesn't have to light up when you want to see it. Only benefit of the 965 screen would be the clarity of it when using maps.

What more do we really need? I do however think its worth it for me anyway, I like a good watch 😂 Went for the 965 over the 265 for the extra battery time and slightly bigger screen, and the slightly bigger screen.
EDIT: forgot the mention the screen is amazing compared to the 245. And I cant understand how anyone would have problems reading the screen in sunlight. Literally sitting in direct sunlight now with screen brightness at 1/3. No issue at all, super bright and readable

Fundamental question; why does any runner need a device that measures these things so accurately? The only time precise timing is ever necessary is in track sessions - and a bog standard stop watch will do the job here. For everyday training, surely, comments such as "60 minutes hard effort" or "35 minutes easy" will do. It's the training efect that matters not exact times/distances - or am I completely out of step with today's runner?

I have a Garmin 955 since last summer. Happy with it and not interested in AMOLED screens, so... I plan to keep it 4-5 years 🤞
    Before that I had lots of watches : 630, Ambit 3, 735XT, Spartan Sport, 645, Fenix 5 Plus Pace 2, 945, Pace 2 again (!) abd finally this 955 😅

I love my Fenix Pro but why can’t Garmin add a cell capability? It’s a pain having to take your phone and making me even consider a Apple Ultra.

Hello Fordy, in your opinion; is it worth to change a Fénix 5 plus for a FR 965?

Just use a Casio F91. Weighs very little, battery lasts years without needing recharges and comes in under £15. Times my runs perfectly.

I’m using the Venu 2 plus. If it weren’t for battery life, I’d be happy with Apple. I do wish Garmin would put the microphone that the Venu 2 Plus has on other watches in their lineup since they don’t have as many of the running insights on the Venu line.

So, the stuff you don't like is largely because you didn't (yet) take your time to study it because UI has changed from your old watch. 😅
Personally, while I like that high resolution bright screen in 965, I bought Forerunner 955 Solar (Solar feature is not necessary) because it has all the same features as 965 but the screen is always on but does not drain the battery like AMOLED screen in 965. Second consideration is that the screen is curved in 965 along the edges. This creates a problem with glass screen protectors. There were no glass protectors for 965 though I didn't check that recently. For my 955, I bought 3 protectors for $7 and already needed to replace once. Cheap insurance!

I prefer something simpler. As I hate sleeping with a watch, so many of the stats wont work for me anyways. A Polar Vantage V does the Job for me.

    Hi there!
I also have a Garmin 245 and I’m thinking of changing for this 965. But I have a question that I think you can help: wile on hiking ou trail running can I see de elevation gain? When I start the watch can I see the elevation gain from zero on the screen? Or just in the final os the track when I connect to my phone?
    Thank you very much.
