I've had my Jumbo for over a year now and love it. I use it as my Get Home Bag that a toss in the car. I added the Maxpedition holster, double mag holder, and Nalgene water bottle. With a loaded Glock 17, two spare mags, water, and my GHB gear in the bag, it weighs right at 13 pounds. Even so, it's still very comfortable during long hikes.
@BroPaul I added two crimp style metal grommets on each side. One is in back of the water bottle pouch, and the other one is in the back panel of the small zippered pouch on the other side. I didn't want them piercing the main compartment, to keep from wicking water onto my gear in there. I added a paracord cobra knot strap. Adjust to your preferred length. John
I been toting my Versipack for two years whenever I gotta go somewhere and it's some of the best equipment I ever got. Tough as hell, lots of room, great utility. I got a boo-boo kit, trauma stuff, water, stuff I need that day, et cetera, basically anything I can't carry on me I got in the Versi. BUY ONE!
Twelve years later....still a good review. Thanks, Sootch!
I've carried one for about 2 months now after seeing your review. I love it! Thanks got the advise.
I regretfully sold it to my friend 😢
But I'm planning to buy it again...soon😊
I like it when guys and women uses it😊
Screw the haters, man purse for life. They're missing out on all the utility a side pack gives you.
I just ordered a green one.
I've had a Maxpedition wallet that I bought on ebay before they became famous and cool.
I've been packing it in my right front pocket for 5 years or more and it still looks and feels like new.
They make their gear tough, really tough.
liked how he slightly compared the jumbo with the fatboy and placed them side by side at the end
Thank you for your thoroughness good sir. I plan on buying one next month.
i dont think im the only person to use the jumbo as a tackle box for fly fishing and spinning. great bags cant recomend enough.
Thanks sootch I got mine today. $43.00 on ebay WITH shipping brand new! (pre carry handle though) I also just ordered the janus extension, phone pouch and 3 mag holder. Just plain great! THANKS!!
Thanks for the review - and also for lining up the discount. I just got one of these and a few other items - I love the high quality gear maxpedition produces.
Sootcho, your reviews are excellent . . great enthusiasm, and you move "right along." For those Maxpedition Jumbo fans that don't need, or want to carry a bottle in the side pocket, I found that the Janus Pocket Extension fits PERFECTLY into that pocket . . as though it was made to go there! Thanks again for the great reviews!
@Castleknight The Jumbo does not have a waist belt. It does have some opposing loops with velco, that are intended to wrap around your regular belt for stability. I have only tried it a couple of times, but I don't need it for around town type of carry.
For hard trail moving, it would be a help. Be safe! John
wow sootch really digs maxpedition!
It's my favorite Maxpedition spokesperson.
Seriously though I love my Condor 2 and I'm probably picking this Jumbo up. Seems like it will fit my style.
i love maxpedition! lots a bags and rigs that are better than more expensive ones. nice vid scootch....
Extremely nice review! Moved right along and covered everything! I have the smaller "Fatboy," and successfully removed the rain hood over the main compartment (as I've seen others document also, I'd hardly ever have the opportunity to use it, and it did interfere with smooth easy retrieval of items (for me)! Best review yet! Thanks
I have owned this bag for over four years I love the bag but with two exceptions. First the hip strap has no place to store it when not in use which is most of the time and it is hard to remove. Second the main strap can not be removed as it only has a buckle at one end. Fix this and it would be the perfect bag.
i figured i was the only one who thought it was crazy to ccw from a bag that spends most of its time dangling behind you. i would maybe carry a back up gun there but it seems folly to have your main firearm there. gotta get me a fatboy, or jumbo, or both, in the s-type. thanks for the vid sootch
thanks for sharing. I like the colors. Be safe out there.
Getting my Jumbo in OD sometime this week, really need a way to drag around all the shit I want to have with me on a everyday basis.
Its funny to go back and watch this video from a few years ago; it looks like its straight out of the 90s! Still a quality review though!
Like John, I have one of the older versions that does not have the drag handle. I'd like to see more about how John added his makeshift handle to the bag. I've often wished for something like this. Thanks for all the great vids.
i like how you guys work off each other, nice review
These are very similar to the 5.11push packs which I have but these look less tactical and much more functional. I think I like these much more. Nice review Sootch. I love stuff that has all the functionality of the tactical stuff but doesn't look tactical which might draw looks.
@KCWes oh, awesome, thanks for letting me know, it's a great comeback for when someone teases you about your "murse"
I recently got the S-Type Jumbo Versipack on Sootch's recommendation...if you're concerned about the price, this bag is absolutely awesome! Totally worth every penny! While I didn't buy mine off Maxpedition's website, I did end up getting some stuff off their site using Sootch's coupon code. It works! Thanks Sootch!
Yoda Pagoda I just picked up two on a BOGO.
Sootch, your fatboy is the same color as mine! I have the CCW holster, and think it would work for just about any pistol. I carry my P-85 around and hear that the Beretta M-9 will fit as well. It is a bit of a tight fit, but with use it is easy to pull the pistol quickly...I would think the draw time would be similar to a shoulder rig The size is perfect for me....love this bag and everything about it! Thanks for the review
"It's not a man purse, its a satchel, Indiana Jones has one"
Great review. My buddy just gave me one that he was issued at work but he never used it. He was missing the holster so I just ordered the Khaki one with mag combo. By the way, your discount code still works!
Excellent review! I have got an older model of the Fatboy without the waist strap and the handle. I'm considering an upgrade to one of the newer Jumbos.
These all feel so American, I just wish they were made here.
Yay for the man purse lol....for some reason I don't feel awkward carrying mine
Now all I have to do is select a colour!
@bblewisguns Hey. It's been a while since I looked at this vid, so sorry for the delay. Typically we can carry most anywhere we want to, but the states have the ability to limit some places from CCW. Hospitals, schools, public gatherings, and typically places that serve alcohol. Businesses also have been given the leeway to post their property against CCW in their facilities, but if they post that, I don't do business with them. Be safe! John
I plan on ordering this from midway. It's on sale for $40.
agreed its a man purse BUT Scooch said it will save my life and quiet my signature so I must buy. Two
@xtrmn8tr1 Look up the sizes on Maxpedition's website, but the Jumbo will readliy allow the CCW of a full pistol, like a 1911, Walther P-99, or a Ruger SR9, plus a mag or 2 in the CCW compartment. I have carried all of those at one time or another in my Jumbo. A Fatboy will only allow smaller compact pistols, or revolvers. Be safe! John
Absolutely love your videos.....please keep them coming .
haha its like a giant TACTICAL PURSE!
wtf? is that the guy from dances with wolves? he's a good actor!
I managed to snag the Type S Bag today. You can't find them anywhere.
Thanks for the review, sootch!
Sootch - you guys rock! Way to much fun with these outstanding and very convincing gear reviews. Just got a Maxpedition Rolly Polly pouch on your recommendation. Always good to see your buddy John in these videos.
Thanks! 5✪+$♥
great review...I will most likly pick up a bag this weekend. Cheers.
ive had mine 5 years and the only thing wrong is my clip broke other wise best bag ever
@sootch00 Women have it right in carrying their big hand bags and pocket books. We men just made it cooler.
I have the fatboy and I never even thought of using the S version for CCW reason.
I carry and when I do use my fatboy I'd rather have my weapon iwb.. Good idea on the S version.
I recently purchased the Maxpedition versapack, my only "complaint", which really isn't a complaint, is that the material is so stiff, that when I was placing my firearm in the CCW compartment is that it scratches my hand up terribly to where my skin is bleeding.
I have a genetic skin condition that my skin is almost paper thin, I bruise easily, and my skin tends to tear.
I was wondering if I wash the bag several times, would it soften the material up?
Thanks for your help.
Janiece G
No it wouldn't unless you washed it so much that you broke down the coating. There will be a little break-in of the material over time if that's any comfort but it's such a thick grade of nylon it's meant to be thick and tear proof.
Can I suggest that maybe you try out some lightweight gloves? They would protect your skin especially against the much harder firearm which will definitely be more abrasive on corners and outcroppings than the bag. While gloves look out of place in summertime (fingerless may be less of a standout) Winter, Fall and part of Spring (depending on location) gloves blend in and can be a bonus. Hope you find/found relief.
@12GaugeLosAngeles
I have both blackhawk and maxped bags, and even though maxped is made overseas, the quality of the maxpedition bags is superior to that of blackhawk due to the awesome Quality Control and premium material. you get what you pay for.
I was given a Maxpedition Versipack Jumbo. I need to know how to accessorize it. I have no experience with them. I told the guy I liked the look of the bag and he gave me an extra one he had and had never used. Any videos on how to pack them, accessorize and pimp them out?
Thanks sootch just received my maxpedtion fat boy , luv it looks great and the uni holster is jus like u said the build quality is very impressive. Luv your vids keep up the good work u and nutn rock
@SleepyFox79 It comes from the movie "The Hangover"... I'm pretty sure Zach Galifianakis says the line. BTW he wears a satchel through the whole movie. LOL
I hate that it looks like a tactical camera bag and this guy pulls out a camera lol
Does it also have a strap you can wear around your waist, i.e. a 2nd strap to help with stability?
loved this review
do you think i can put a smith and wesson model 629 44 mag with a 5" barrel in the jumbo or the fatboy?
Good review.
@sootch00 i dont know where the saying comes from, there's a group on facebook that i am in with that name, i just had to say it it seemed appropriate :P
@TheOtherEddie sound good... i guess im getting the jumbo... thanks for your help
Scotch those bags look awesome! I was wondering if they could have enough room for my fire hd10 tablet? It looks like it might be able to. Awesome review btw!
@KSpenceV I have the same problem. I just can't make myself
carry a man purse. nothing against the people that do though.
alright. i thought i wanted the lunada but really like this too. i need something that can carry an ipad or small laptop and be used for ccw plus typical edc stuff. which is the most comfortable and meet my usage requirements? thanks for the reviews.
Is that color configuration still available?
i was just wondering do us laws allow you to just walk around with concealed carry and fire arms ? no sarcasm intended i honestly don't know
COOL!
Open question . I recently bought a bag like this named seibertron tactical series and am very impressed for the quality and size all around great bag . Which I would expect to pay 45 to 50 dollars for . I payed only 20 and free shipping on Amazon . My question is . Are the Maxpedition bags any better than the brand I bought or similar off brand . And if so wHAT FEATURES ARE BETTER AND WHY .
Thanks for the reply and your time . I am eventually going to try a maxpedition bag out . I may buy the first maxpedition not for myself but for my wife . As the off brands do not have as many colors such as grey and pink for women .
I was just in mine packed to the gills. No problems at all with my seibertron bag . I have a first aide kit packed in the top pocket the is brimming and no problems . . Good to hear others have good reports with this brand . I think I will be revising them in the future .
Sootch00, what do you think of the Lunada Gearslinger?
can the strap be adjusted on the jumbo
?
but now its PACKED
you kinda look like kevin costner in this video.
and is it still holding up
"Its a european sholder bag"
Its my new baby bag
Can you carry fullsized in the CCDW pocket?
tacti-purse....LOL
@hubeda lol I think he looks like mr fantastic from frantastic 4
Good for a get home bag?.
If you like the style and look (a little on tactical but not so much) then is gonna be a very good for every occasion. I use mine for traveling, office bag, bug out bag. And sometimes i use it for a gym bag. Its very versitile. And the quality is so damn good! Very durable. Maxpedition Malaga and Jumbo versipack are two my fav for years.
@DroopyWorm thanks.
how ya liking it
@aj45colt I am sure it will fit in the Jumbo, but I don't know about the Fatboy. John
Two for one in international orange labor day sale on the jumbo. Don't bother writing a review, though, they delete anything but rave reviews.
I want the maxpedotion jumbo versipack in green and khaki . But I can't find it anywhere for sale if any of y'all wanna sell me yours 😉
EBay has some in those colors for 50 bucks I just order one from Amazon for 47 dollars
@chris225101 Thanks, I think... John
no they made such a great bag and forgot about the strap ;-/
Bro, JACK BAUER carries a man purse, for cryin' out loud! And I dare anybody to make fun of him about it! You'll probably get shot! 'Nuff said. ;-)
@mrmonkeyman50 looks the same to me.
@sootch00 Ditto! I would like to know the same thing?
good morning- i enjoy your reviews- i have this bag in black and like the idea of a carry handle add on as mine is pre-carry handle- could you or your buddy send details to me regarding the add on so i may do this- thanks
@xxrobloxiaxx Ouch, that hurt. I'm only a month older... We have been best friends for a long time. John
its still a man purse even if it has a gun in it.
*****
@xxrobloxiaxx No problem...besides, I only see it when I watch a video of me, or look in the mirror... :-{)
Nice review,greath duo!
