KL was my son's favorite band. He died a few months ago in an accident. This new album is fitting for how my life is now. I will keep listening for him.

Lyrically this story ended up being much more personal than we initially intended. We started with the idea to tell a fictional story but throughout the process, I found ways to incorporate real feelings of loss and mourning, as well as anger and self-doubt. I’ve always been a very personal writer and this was originally a step away from that, into something more artistic. But in the end, it was just as therapeutic as writing a regular Knocked Loose record, and I think you’ll be able to hear that. - bryan garris

Bryan even stated this was initially supposed to be a fictional story they made up but he ended up resonating a lot with elements of it, so he and the band ended up being much more emotionally invested in it.
If you ever seen a interview with the singer you will notice that he's seems to be the most down to earth calm guy/nice guy ever:)

This is their magnum opus, shit had me crying by the end of a Permanent. The lyrics and visuals were overwhelming but beatiful. Never thought I'd say that about a KL project.

I think some of the rawest bits are actually Matt from Portrayal Of Guilt
Actually they have never been more processed. If by raw you mean aggressive/abrasive/scorching then yeah, indeed. I found myself thinking quite a few times wishing he wouldn't be trying to fill every single part of the song and let the instrumentals build up the ambience they were going for a bit. Like its ok to take a back seat for a few measures sometimes.
The only downside to this masterpiece is that every time I want to experience it I need to decide whether I wanna watch the animation or have the lyrics open, but both hit super fucking hard it's a tough choice
Lol, same here, but now I have the whole God damn album memorized so it's much better to watch the video, they should of somehow incorporated lyrics on the video but it would've probably took away some of the emotion the animation has, overall fucken masterpiece

I literally just discovered these guys last week and have been giving their stuff a spin. I'm 44 and have been a metalhead for 30 years, since discovering music and ive never heard anything like this. utterly stunning. its like these guy heard a emergency alert siren and said thats our music. its the sound of a lumbering behemoth trying to pull his legs up out of the tar while having a panic attack about getting sucked further in. im floored.
My husband had complications with a surgery that ended up resulting in me taking him off life support. When I heard this album and saw this animated film I was and still shook. Music has literally kept me going, and this album hit so personally. Thank you Knocked Loose.

When I first heard Bryans vocals I didn't really like them at all, but now they've grown on me a lot and I absolutely love them, Definitely a top 5 favorite vocalist for me now just because of the pure emotion he put in them on this ep.

100% same for me. I saw them live and kind of dismissed them when I first heard him sing. I kept listening and by the end of the set I was intrigued. Listened to them on spotify and now love them.

Hi! I am just wondering, has anyone else here lost anyone and relate to this? I'd be super curious to hear others takes on this music/video/art. It's so friggin eerie man, my sister died in a car accident in 2012...we played God Only Knows at her wake...so much of this entire experience, the music and the video DEEPLY move me, I feel it in my core and soul. I have chills SO intensely. This is so haunting and beautiful. I feel it very deeply in my heart and soul. This is heavy and REAL. I am so incredibly appreciative for this beautiful, wonderful, crushing work of art. Thank you Knocked Loose. My sister Nathalie and I leap frogged our musical taste together, showing each other bands, developing our music tastes simultaneously and building a shared library of music. I have no doubt she would be loving some Knocked Loose if she were still alive. She is half the reason I am even here in the first place, she moved me to hardcore and eventually veganism etc.

As somebody who has been confronting extreme grief and anguish since the passing of my mother, and the pandemic separating me thousands of miles away from my suffering family, this album hit me on a deep level. This is their best release, hands down, no doubt. This is fucking unreal.

This needs subtitles, if only so people can fully absorb the lyricism tied with the visual symbolism. This is truly a masterpiece that leaves me with fully body chills at many points throughout.

I've listened to this EP for two years, I even have a physical copy. Initially, I was caught by the instrumentals and completely oblivious to the concept. Overtime I somewhat got the album vibe form the lyrics without looking them up (English isn't my first language).
Fast forward to last week (Jan 2023), my brain suddenly picked up on the lyric "we have each other and that's all we'll ever need... I am re-born in a life without you". I had to investigate the full lyrics.
Man, when I realized that this animated film existed I instantly felt worrying urgency and I had to physically prepare. I went in my room, noise cancelling on, curtains shut and lyrics up on my phone.
I now get shivers listening to permanent blue. I could have lived life not knowing,
yet here I am.

I genuinely think Will's best work is with Knocked Loose. Everything just comes together and feels right.

Just when you didn’t think KL could be any harder.
The vocals are so fucking visceral now, the grit to the edge of his voice that just makes it sound so fucking painful. Its like he's screaming Glass from within his lungs. Everything from the vocals to the instruments, the transitions, the flow, all of it has grown into such a perfect little package of sharply packed blades welded and forged onto the edge of a massive Warhammer. Goddamn Knocked Loose, This is a masterpiece.

The breakdown at 1:13 and 2:53 is very interesting rhythmically: it's two bars of 4/4 followed by two bars of 6/8, giving the feeling of metric modulation. It sounds like the tempo changes, but it's just the interplay between the 2:3 metric modulation.
This is the simplest explanation of how I can do this in my own music that I've seen thank you!
We shouldn't forget the absolutely mind -bending use of cymbals in "Forced to Stay" at 9:30. The first time I heard this, I was speechless. I've never heard anything like this use of percussion in metal before (unless someone can point me to some examples?).
Considering the tempo, I'd say it's a bar of 6/4. Otherwise they would actually be slowing down the tempo to half speed during the 6/8 bar, or playing one slow 4/4 bar before the 6/8 bar
@@bildom 6/8 is more appropriate because it's a compound duple meter (ie, two groups of three eighth notes). 6/4 would imply two groups of three quarter notes. But the rhythmic pulse is sixteenth and eighth notes, not quarter notes.
In fact the larger pulse is dotted quarter notes, so 6/4 could even be misleading. 6/8 is more accurate.

They are the best hardcore band out there right now
This is a prime example of a band embracing their potential and pushing the envelope. I always liked Laugh Tracks, but I would sometimes poke fun at all the simple “cave man” style riffs. To go from that to A Different Shade was a huge step up. Then from that to this, something even more technical yet still maintain their core sound? Well done. Loving the more pronounced deathcore elements and more impressive riffs.
Thats one thing I really appreciate about Knocked Loose. No matter how much they branch out and experiment, their sound never loses its brutality.
Laugh Tracks is solid as well as being musically interesting with tempo changes creating twists and turns to their songs. Also this song is so fucking heavy for drop A tuning, I thought it was lower at first. This album and Laugh Tracks are my favorites for sure!
Even if oblivions peak is a bit simpler compared to other songs it’s still great imo

Never heard of these guys before a few weeks ago when I saw them open up for Gojira in Nashville. Their shows are like a brutal sonic beating that is all at once comforting and frightening. This dude comes out on stage and proceeds to fucking scream at you like a homeless banshee for an hour solid while the band gleefully joins in on the beating. When they leave, you're spent and wasted. Done.
In short, it was amazing.

Just saw them live in San Diego, hands down the coolest people/fans at the show and they played amazingly, all night the bass was rattling my skeleton and 3 days later I was still sore as fuck. Thank you knocked loose

I NEED more info as to how this was made, the story behind it, the animation process, anything. Everyone's infatuated with the music (and rightfully so) but goddamn the animation team did not have to go this hard.
This album is out of this world. The soundscapes, brutal presentation, and overall feel is something special. These concept albums / EPs like the newest invent animate are the future of metalcore. The subject of this album is incredibly sad but a real life experience that people face. Once you add in the video this is pure art plain and simple. I want and need more of this. God tier status with this release.
I legitimately teared up at the end, just so moving. I lost someone recently and the lyrics+video really connected with how I felt.
Aside from that, the music is a masterpiece.

I've been listening to hardcore since '98 and there aren't a lot of bands that progressively get better without changing their style or creating similar songs. These guys are so innovative and keep their original style so well.
Knocked Loose reminded me so much of myself as a high school kid in their early days that it made me cringe at my past self too much to be able to listen to them. I slept hard on the band of the next generation. This EP and their last album are fucking incredible.
Where light divides the holler is my favorite song. I mean, what a fucking opener to an already fucking amazing EP. 👍🏽

they never disappoint. they are the art of dissonance. Bryan's vocal is shattering more glasses, Isaac's growl is like it's gonna drill a fucking sinkhole. the Kevins got more intense, the blast beat, and tremolo picking for the bass. and i can even feel the influence from Nicko. shit's so fucking heavy.
Everything here is art, but in particular the animation in the hug in Permanent is simply incredible, the way it conveys familiarity, relief, intimacy of a life lived together in that one moment, it's just so moving
