    Yes well, I have been training in Aikido for 22 years, and in the fights I have gotten into outside of the dojo, Aikido has been all that I've ever needed to end any fight. And by end the fight, I mean every other enemy combatant is down and out and I and my companions are completely unharmed.

    Well said. You have been training 22 yrs. Of course it will work for you. You are considered as master level after that much time...as well you should be. The ignorance comes from those who train for 2 or 5 or even 10 yrs that are expecting to be as good as those of us that have trained for over 20. It takes time, dedication, and patience, and a lot of money(lol) to be at a master level. You can weed out those who do not train simply through their disrespect!

    What people fail to realize, I think, is that when people say Aikido doesn't require strength, they really mean Aikido doesn't REQUIRE strength. They don't mean that an Aikidoka CAN'T use strength. It's just that any extra strength or force an Aikidoka puts in beyond the bare minimum would be comparable to overkill. I mean, with every technique in Aikido, the Aikidoka could suddenly decide to put force and immediately break bones, tear tendons, dislocate joints, etcetera. Can't they see this?

    He's only a teacher. Wish he would compete in actual competition so we could see how good he really is. Easy to make yourself look tuff when you're not really going up against anyone. It's know wonder why he never wanted to fight Van Damme

    you can't have competition in aikido by definition as there is no block/counter. the nice twirly locks you see are mostly study in timing, balance, effective movement and developing ki/chi. not too different to tai chi training in a sense. ultimately you do all this to be able to enter and strike at just the right time. this is known as irimi and is the ultimate aim of aikido and other arts. . experienced practitioners of any martial arts understand this - and how difficult and risky it is.

    @Jraax i think you should reconsider lol
    Steven Seagal does train MMA fighters like Anderson Silva and that had effect when Anderson Silva defeated his opponant with that awesome kick.
    Steven may be arrogant, but he is the real deal and is worshiped in japan by many masters as probably the best Aikido Student there was and now consideerd by the Japanese Masters as one of the top 10 masters in Aikido.
    I give you 2 minutes and a one way ticket to the ICU my friend

  • @osensei2987

    @Jraax A martial art is just a framework. It teaches u how to correctly apply techniques. That does not mean that u will be a great fighter. It only means that you know the techniques and can teach them to others. Fighting can only come from personal experience. If this were not so then every fighter would be the same "cookie cutter image" of every other fighter. But every fighter is different! Why? Cuz even though they may have style in common each one has their own different experience.

  • @Stevekido
    @Stevekido 12 років тому

    competition fighting be it judo, karate, MMA, boxing or whatever is completely different. a special forces soldier for example has no intent of out-scoring an opponent or dragging it out by wearing big padded gloves - but rather incapacitating him through maximum damage with minimum of fuss.

  • @Jraax
    @Jraax 12 років тому

    Damn. I can't believe I have to keep explaining my remarks. It was not a kick boxing match. I approached him as an aggressive street thug with some technique. Real world fights almost always end up on the ground. Does this make the art of Aikido limited? Maybe. Sometimes. But I still respect it. I don't respect Seagal. He's just a showman to me.

    i seem to recall that two of the top UFC competitors in the ring right now were trained by Steven Seagal. Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the teacher supposed to be better than the student lol?

    @HugoGreen1988 then the MMA fighter has a problem if you look at the ones that are trained by steven seagal and all won 60% more of their matches since

  • @Stevekido

    aikido comes from daito-ryu and jiu-jitsu. krav maga is a copy of that. it can be brutally efficient or soft and flowery depending on where you train. they are all the same really so don't believe it is EVER a case of 'my martial arts style beats yours'. it isn't. people beat people. and that comes down to will and ability not assumptive arrogance

  • @theomen49
    @theomen49 12 років тому

    But i do find it amusing that everyone likes to say that it was just a publicity stunt, just because he's an aikidoka so therefore he couldn't teach them anything useful. I've watched the videos and much of what he taught them had to do with many core concepts of aikido. Things like not fearing you're opponent, entering and not collapsing, etc. All these things, btw, are also in alot of jujutsu. But the japanese jujutsu, not judo-based brazilian "jujutsu".

    @Sniped505 the arts that block then strike are useless,there is no blocking in self defense,you hit first.

    Great topic.
    Then, how do you practice in real world environments? Every MA knows that a DoJo is not the streets. Which explains why I was able to take down the Aikido Instructor. Again, I have all the respect for the Aikido Art, but when reality attacks, it becomes limited IMHO in real world situations. I studied Kempo Kung-Fu for 2 years and it was all about street combat. We created real world scenarios to practice with. Just like I did for the Aikido Sensei.

  • @osensei2987
    @osensei2987 12 років тому

    Plus any good Aikidoka should also know Judo and Jiu Jutsu. Because these arts are from the same school. But every martial artist is not interested in fighting.

    i notice that stevie only picks on guys smaller than him. he's just a bully.

  • @theomen49
    @theomen49 12 років тому

    I seem to recall there being plenty of videos and statements from the guys he trained saying he trained them and that they had said that he was largely responsible for their victories. Personally, I don't care that he trained them. UFC is pretty boring to me and it's not the greatest source of martial arts that ever existed like so many MMA fans like to proclaim. I think there is too much money, ego, and competition in it for them to be great martial artists.

  • @300tengu
    @300tengu 12 років тому

    @Jraax If you knew anything about Martial Arts, you would know that Aikido has no matches or point fights. No winner or loser. Like Tai Chi Chuan.

  • @TheOriginalFayari
    @TheOriginalFayari 12 років тому

    Also, do not presume that MMA is real fighting. The ring has rules. A fight has none. Until you show me an MMA fighter that can handle a fight where multiple armed attackers are all gunning for him without throwing a single strike and without getting hit at all, do not presume MMA is all that impressive. Aikidoka regularly train for such a situation, and that has come in handy for me many times.
    I have fought and taught MMA fighters before. A lot of MMA moves will get you killed in real fights.

      Joe Tekk Sorry, no. all due respect to the Gracie family, it wouldn’t last one minute, and if Taka sensei decided it was necessary, I would send my condolences to the surviving Gracie members. but i don’t worry about that. He may be a cocky SOB and a bit of a jerk sometimes, but he woukd not do harm just to stroke his ego. In that aspect he is confident snd has no need to take a life just to prove he can.

  • @Jraax

    Sniped505 - I have no doubt Aikido is the real deal. I'm just saying Steven Seagal is not doing it justice the way he performs. Too theatrical. I have sparred with an Aikido instructor. I gave him real world attacks. Believe me, I made him work for it and it showed. Yeah, I was hurting too. haha. But there was no ballet on his part. My left arm hurt for weeks from him trying to flip me like Seagal does. Never happened. I do respect Aikido. Not Seagal. It is a very impressive art. I bow to you.

  • @Jraax
    @Jraax 12 років тому

    Actually, the Silva footage was a staged event. Joe Rogan even debunked it.
    Again, I'm not putting down the Aikido art. But real world events are a completely different arena. Why does Segal always use a little partner? Why not someone his size? I can not find one piece of footage that has an equal partner. I am very open minded. All I ask is one tournament event with Mr. Segal. Just one. There are decades of video with him. But, not one tournament.

    No doubt! But if an MMA fighter does not posses the skills that are found in arts like Aikido, Tai Chi, Bagua Chang, Filipino Kali, Dumog etc. then he is less equipped for survival vs just competing in a chicken shit sport. MMA is not enough for comprehensive unarmed self-defense. It still lacks tools and has a sport fighter mentality. That is not enough as far as comprehensive survival tactics go.

    What a huge joke. This is not martial arts, this is theater. I can beat Steven Segal only with my right leg! In a real fight Segal wont last 5' with this joke, unless his opponent starts to laugh from him!!!!!

    I've seen real Aikido in action. Steven Seagal is a joke!!!. He's a teacher and a showman - not a real fighter. Someone show me a legit tournament fight. You can't. It's always staged ballet with the same little partner for past 20+ years.
    At 6' 240lbs he won't be tossing me around like that. Grab my wrist and receive a round house at no extra charge.
