- The Volkswagen Tiguan may still be a compact crossover, but it feels like a midsize. We take the affordable utility for a full road test.

Love my '19 tiguan sel premium awd...good mileage, solid handling, decent acceleration and roomy inside...also very quiet
At first sorry for my English. Owning VW's for over 28 years among other makers I have to say this. Beside some problems, these are the best cars you have to buy if you earn money from hard and descent work. VW's are not for finesse, handling or value for money demands but they are the best "comrades" every day. My conclusion from life is if you can't buy an expensive rwd German car go and get a VW especially from Wolfsburg plant factory . You ll never regret it. If you make money "from air" buy anything you want, it doesn't matter.
So its kinda bad by admission but its a good "freind"?
John is back with a good review missed him
I hate this car, but I just love MotorWeek! Please keep up the good work! You've been doing it for so long, and so accurately. Your formula works, and will continue to work because you focus on the things people want to know. It's all numbers basically, and the tests you put the cars through are tried and true! Keep up the good work. People like myself are counting on you.
As a lifelong VW owner and fanboy....I'm finding it tough to get excited about almost any VW other than the GTI.
In trying to appeal to the American buyer, it's lost its charm.
The VWs offered in Europe are WAY, WAY better than the American versions. We never even got the modern Scirocco. Such a shame.
For the love of God VW, at least offer us the European models, even if it comes at a cost premium.
They're not "bad" cars and the new warranty is amazing. They just don't have the quirky charm anymore.
Again, except the GTI...and hopefully the Arteon.
Maybe they're trying to reestablish themselves before bring us the good stuff. Fingers crossed! haha
Stage 1 tune will fix the power problem. 2.0T is a great motor.
I would love to see if VW could wither up the horsepower or put maybe a vr6 engine in it
John Davis is right about the new look Volkswagen Tiquan. It maybe a "compact SUV" in name, but it looks and even feels like a Midsize SUV. It's the size of Hyundai Santa Fe/Kia Sorento. Picture the Honda CR-V with three rows. This vehicle and the last gen Tiquan are not bad vehicles.
Nice looking and functional, we test drove the Tiguan and were suprised that the AWD was extra money, others in this class it is mostly standard with Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 and that is important in the NE USA. Good warranty but I don't like the idea that it's made in Mexico, not a fan as that will likely lead to even more future problems and maintenance which isn't cheap for VW.
The plants around the world are mostly machine run and the parts are brought in. Mexicans are as hard working as anyone and the final QC is the same in Mexico as in any other plant
I like it
Omg is that the same test track from the 70's 80's and 90's..?? Looks similar and a little bit abandoned..
With that fuel economy, it should have the GLI/GTI horsepower.... and the Golf R brakes.
Headlights make it look like it’s a 2000 vehicle not 2018
Agree. Putting garbage old halogen headlights with LED running lights looks like trash
THIS. I’m tired of Germans with halogen headlights.
I agree PLEASE upgrade those not a good look 😏
Some people's eyes can't see well with LED light.
I prefer halogen bulbs. I can see the road better. Not everyone is the same.
MyNetworkTV is now.
I had a clone of this car for over a week while VW was replacing a failed turbocharger on my 2016 GTI. Terribly underpowered. I couldn’t wait to give it back.
Joe S. what is a clone of it ? Wondering ?
E.J. Freestone The 2018 Tiguan service loaner I had.
Joe S. From a GTi yup downer. LoL. I love my Tiguan first VW too
typical European owner experience
Kevork Tanossian I wouldn’t worry. I think mine was defective.
This would be great with a 2.0 Turbodiesel. Oh wait.....
so cruel LOL
True! I also have a 2013 Jetta TDI Sportswagen...I LOVE IT! 40-65 MPGs. I also bought one of these to replace my Hyundai.
@@davidhildebrand8894 I would've gotten one of those if the emissions scandal didn't happen.
R-Line
Nervous. Bought one. Watching. Let's see. LoL.
I went sunroof / third row delete. Kayaker. Loved it as first sight. Drove everything else. Just couldn't get it out of my mind. As for the power issue. Sorry it's just fine. Sport mode will do fine. So Mr Forrester. Come and get it. See you in the rearview. You got nothing for the Tiguan. Sorry. Your bloated and have H.P. but heavier...
You want tech / room and cheaper. My SE loaded out the door. $25 k.
Oh and the 6/64 bumper to bumper warranty. Mr Subaru Forester you don't have that do you ? Or Mr High VW maintenance ? Sorry what costs.
Try it you will buy it.
My first VW and it won't be the last. Thanks Piazza VW / Langhorn PA (I wasn't paid LOL)
E.J. Freestone bro. calm down.
B HM Sorry. VW fever. LoL
Your post. Gave me. A headache.
@@NeoGee Lots there. Sorry. LoL. Subaru isn't what it used to be...
I have a Tiguan as well. I too was considering a Subaru and almost rolled the dice. However, at the dealer I was talking to the lead mechanic (while the manager was writing up the numbers) and he told that cvt issues and head gaskets keep his shop very busy. He advised me to consider another brand. I slipped out the back door and left the dealer right away.
If I had to buy a VW SUV, I'd get the much larger Atlas! If they have the Atlas, why have this in 7 passenger too?
This came out before the atlas. And this car is plenty huge on the inside but MUCH EASIER to park. The reason i chose the Tiguan is because of its small size, more attractive( in my opinion) styling and great gas mileage.
its a nice small suv buts it is just too slow 0-60 8.8 seconds for a 2018 automobile is a joke. How is one to merge on a parkway? I live on Long Island the parkway ramps are very short you need some good power to get on safely. 1/4 mile in 16.8 again its just too slow. Why not offer a faster engine option?????
Zazur Zazur Volkswagen
Made in Mexico and slow as molasses in January for 3800 pound vehicle, 8.8 seconds 0-60 wow really slow cant merge on a Parkway
Actually you can. You just need to set it for sport
That's why it makes me so mad . They charging people over the roof for part because it's German VW but it's build Mexico. I think people shouldn't buy it period.
I have had two cars like most people but always one of them a VW. Parts are not more, go to a good repair shop and skip the dealer.
It needs an extra 30 horsepower
Or 500 less pound of weight like on the short wheel base Tiguan we don't get in the States.
@@NeoGee yep, they pretty much extended the wheelbase for a useless freaking third row
Way too slow for a 2.0T when you get smoked by CR-V 1.5tt.
Norm T Sadly that's very true. Not to mention the CR-V has a CVT as well.
Also the fuel economy is atrocious! My Forester gets 28 mpg combined and that’s with all wheel drive. Tiguan only gets 25 combined and that’s with only front wheel drive.
tinker1148 averaging 29mpg with mixed driving with our 2wd SE. don’t believe epa ratings always
Boring cars all models are the same ? Vw have not new ideas ??? 👎
When you buy a German car, it should be built in Germany.
Terrible performance. My 2017 Forester has the same options as this for $27,500 but includes all wheel drive, panoramic sunroof, same interior and cargo volume and faster acceleration.
but VW doesn't have head gasket problems, ironically enough
Id still rather have the capable AWD system, great resale, and untarnished reputation of Subaru over the VW.
you dont know what the resale will be on these new VW.
Slow as dirt
M.A.G.A...
Expemsive, slow, and crap tactic plastic interior. I mean halogen headlamps in 2018? All VW did was make it dull, fat, and numb for the less than smart Americans. Corner cutting VW will be rewarded with sales because Americans buy on size alone. Nothing else. VW gets it
Mexico no thanks.
Mag neto lmaoo
i thougth the same when i heard about eu cars from the us. Sry not for me
Driving be build in mxc. It has 200k. It has no issues. Have. A nice day Toyota lover
EURO TRASH lmaoo and built in "MEXICO" tf ...no thanks... i'll take CX-5 please, &thanks lol
Vw sucks
