  • This year, 2021, I want to finally conquer my fear of Intarsia knitting. To start, I decided to knit the Kaffe Fasset design Paint Daubs Blanket from the “Kaffe Fasset Felted Tweed” collection. I decided to apply the design to a wrap! I modified the technique to a faux intarsia....by weaving the background shade behind the pops of pattern colour. See my demonstration of this technique at approx. 10:30 .

    December 5 2022: So happy to hear that one of your challenges with intarsia knitting. I love that blanket that was shown with the colorful small blocks. The felted tweed collections especially that hat on the cover looks so lovely. I am a novice with knitting but so adventurous to try a pattern. If I do not like it I can FROG it! As you notice it is 2022 and finding your channel a few weeks ago is still so refreshing and current. So many beautiful patterns to make. Time is precious and making these for friends would be so special.

      Hi Bernadette! Yes, I am determined to tackle intarsia as I have Holly by Kaffe in my stash and even though I don’t think I’d actually wear it, I want to knit it. LOL!! It’s the tabard ponch thingie that has the big leaf design on it :) That shawl with the blocks is on hold right now……but I will get back to it :) Congratulations on being a confident novice - you are so right - frogging can be very therapeutic :) I struggle with knitting for friends….because honestly, when I have, they don’t really get all the time and attention that it takes to create a garment. Maybe that is my problem, I should knit hats or mittens…..something small, quick, easier :) I am so glad you found my channel and I hope I can inspire your knitting! Anne x

      Thank you Russell! Yes, the mirrored entrance just pulled you in....my favourite room was the green room :) This wrap is so much fun....I’m seriously tempted to knit another :) Do you have.a favourite style of knitting?

      @@AnneFeatonby my favourite things to knit are fairisle. My nemesis is cables, so I'm going to try to develop those skills in 2021.

      Sounds like a plan! I sort of let 2020 just go by in a blur of frantic knitting....time to focus as we are going to be in this mess for a while yet I fear :)

    Anne, I only found you today, luckily, as I am about to do my second intarsia sweater. After the first one, for my granddaughter, I wasn't sure I'd ever attempt intarsia again, it was so intense and involved many, many skeins of yarn. However, here you were with a first attempt at intarsia and a completely genius idea for knitting it! So happy, thank you so much for the tutorial, I can't wait to start my Flower Power pullover by Degen!!! Your scarves are absolutely gorgeous. I'm a subscriber now and am excited to catch up on your channel. Hugs🥰😍

      Thank you for visiting and subscribing! I couldn’t find the Flower Power Pullover by Degen in Ravelry…..but if you can adapt it to knit intarsia the way i did for my scarf, that would be great. This technique is best for small areas of colour on a plain background (IMO) but hey, what do I know! LOL!!! Thanks again!

    Great video on Intarsia thanks Anne. Love your beautiful intarsia scarf. The last time I knitted Intarsia was a sweater for my oldest son when he was very young. The front was a Crayola Box. I've been thinking about knitting Intarsia. Maybe I will join you this year. As always a pleasure seeing you Anne.

    Thank you for showing your technique - very helpful for me. Like you, I have wanted to knit intarsia but have resisted. I have the yarn for a Foolish Virgin scarf that I purchase from Main Street Yarns a number of years ago and only knit a small bit. Maybe this is the year for me too. Thanks for the photos from your Kaffe Fasset exhibit - amazing to see his work. Stay safe.

      Hi Marilyn! I too bought a yarn pack for the Foolish Virgin scarf.....but abandoned it..... FV is classic Kaffe, fiddly bits of intarsia...spectacular but daunting :) I have another Kaffe design on the needles now....and my plan is to ration it out so its not overwhelming....I want it to be finished some day, not abandoned in a corner. Hope you are well.....isn’t this just crazy? Take care.....

      Hi Sue! That’s great to hear! I’ve already discovered that I can’t do intarsia for long.....so I (you) will probably need another project (or two) on the go at the same time. Let’s encourage each other ok?

    I love your scarf version of the blanket! Your videos showed up in my feed during the winter lockdown (I am just east of Toronto) and have gone back to watch from the beginning. It’s great to hear your thoughts on the Rowan patterns and yarns. I enjoy your reviews of the patterns in the books, and how you highlight the details of each pattern. Glad I found your channel!

      Thank you for watching Sarah! I’m glad you found my channel. Having a really good look at each pattern helps me decide what garment I’d like to knit.....so I hope it is helpful to others :) Hang in there.....stay safe.

    Love your intarsia scarf especially done in felted tweed. I just like working with felted tweed & have just finished a sweater in the new winter collection. You have inspired me to maybe try intarsia this year. Thank you 😊

    So could you use this technique on the plume pattern ?? Thank you

    • @AnneFeatonby
      @AnneFeatonby  3 роки тому

      Looking at the Plume by Martin Storey - it is a stranded design....there are no large areas between the motifs....so the yarn can easily be stranded around the circumference of the sweater. I would do true stranded knitting with loose floats so as not to gather in the yoke. As I mentioned in this video....I was able to do this technique because of the specific circumstances of this particular pattern.....drops of separate colours separated by areas of background - the Plume uses one shade for the pattern so is easy to strand around. I think I mentioned already....watch the River City Yarns youtube videos....they have knit the Plume and might have some tips for you. Enjoy!
