    Congratulations on frogging your green sweater to reuse the yarn. It takes courage to realize that something in which we put a great deal of effort, did not work out. During the first year of the pandemic I spent ages attempting to make a freeform crochet baby blanket that did not work out at all. Because it was a lot of small pieces of yarn, I could not frog and reuse the yarn. I felt a great sense of relief when I included that failed project it a bundle of items that went to a charity that recycles clothing, fabrics and fibres. Once it was no longer sitting in my basket staring at me, I felt much better. I just made a much more successful baby blanket with the same yarn.

      Thank you! Deciding to frog something is a challenge….to admit that you made an error in judgment and spend so much of your knitting time on something that just won’t work….. Glad you got that failed project out of your environment and donated it on…..I might be doing that with some of my older sweaters - i don’t wear them, they are just taking up spake, so why not donate them so that someone else can enjoy them! Right?

    I'm so enjoying knitting and watching your channel. You made my day when you said that intarsia is coming back. I ♥ intarsia and taught it in my local yarn store a few years ago as well as at the DFW FiberFest. I've made several of Kaffe's designs as well as others (eg Sasha Kagan). I'm looking forward to seeing what patterns will be coming out in the fall. I'm also looking forward to seeing the new KidSilk Haze colors will be.

      Intarsia is coming back! I don’t think you will see the really intricate intarsia of the past…but I may be wrong :) There Shell vest design in Rowan 72 is quite a challenge I could think.

    My heart breaks for you about those sweaters....but trust me, moving and all that means plays havoc with our brains..so be kind with yourself! I think you've redeemed yourself with those quilting projects..they are beautiful.. My passion has been stitching samplers, but my hands cannot deal with a lot of fine motor movement so back to knitting..which I enjoy. Be well Ann and I hope things begin to settle for you!

      Thank you for your kind words Andrea. Yes, moving is a big thing, never mind after 2 years of Covid….. Things are starting to settle down. I am getting a routine going - lawn bowling, sewing group here, my knitting group still gets together virtually……and I want to enjoy the summer because it looks like we will be in renovation land early Fall. I am looking forward to it, but not rushing the summer away. It’s good to do multiple crafts because yes, something could happen and you might need a backup right? I am glad you are enjoying your knitting. Thanks again for dropping by! Anne

    I love that expression "potato-chip knitting." Captures exactly what we all understand about that. Love your blanket, but also the navy fluffy sweater you are wearing. Can you tell us what the design is?

      @AnneFeatonby  2 роки тому

      Hi Laura! I’m loving all sorts of ‘potato-chip” crafting these days - just started a quilt - more on that next time! That sweater is two strands of kidsilk haze held together, knit one two sizes of needles, alternated each row….it’s a Kim Hargreaves design…..she does this quite often…..I love it!

      Hi Virginia - I’ve just this minute been contemplating this and you know what? I need to move on and use something else…and I’m going to try Kid Classic! I love Kid Classic and so I need to do a swatch and see what it looks like at the stated gauge. Might have to add a strand of mohair in with it (wink wink) hahaha. Thanks for dropping by. Anne

    You might also want to check out Artfil, a hand dyer in Montreal. Their Sweater yarn is worsted weight which is probably a little lighter than you were looking for. However many of their variegated colours are appealing and they will dye to order whatever colour you choose in any of their weights and colours. To get a slightly thicker yarn you combine a strand of lace weight mohair with the Merino. Tanis fibre arts, also in Montreal, has Mountain mohair, a lace weight mohair in variegated shades in 500 yards put-up. However, I believe they are on summer hiatus right now.

      I was thinking about Tanis - I’m happy to wait as I don’t think I’ll get to his sweater sooner than later :) I will check out Artfil - thank you for that recommendation! And thanks for popping by ! Anne

    Thank you for a great podcast Ann. I sympathize with the disaster with your husband's sweaters. Years ago, I knit a darling little "bunny" sweater for my daughter. The cottontails were drapery ball fringe and it was my first stranded knitting. As soon as I cast off I stupidly (very stupidly) ran it through the gentle handwash cycle of my machine. I forgot it and didn't stop the spin cycle and it came out small enough for a doll. My daughter was disappointed and so was I! The next morning I dashed to my LYS and bought the same yarn and started a new cardigan. I knit all day and into the night and finished it in the early morning hours the next day, which was my daughter's first day of school. We all do these things sometimes! I'm knitting an afghan for the winter in "winter white" with the butterfly stitch. So easy. I've done a number of the Aise II shawls from Espace Tricot and have one more to do for my niece's wedding. After that, I hope the fall Rowan magazine will be out and I will see what I like. I agree the Rowan Say It With Flowers is an exceptional collection.

      Hi Donna! Oh my goodness, you really pulled it together to knit another sweater in time for the first day of school. Love the Aise II design - so chic! (Just added it to my potential list :) - thank you!) I am looking forward to the Rowan fall/winter collection…..haven’t heard when it will be out…..it is usually early to allow a head start to winter knitting, but with Covid everything has been so delayed….we shall see. Kaffe is 84 and still amazing us with his colour combinations and vision (both knitting and I do love his fabrics). Thank you for popping by and chatting! Anne

    Lovely podcast Anne. Great to see all your projects. I am knitting with Rowan Pebble Island & it is so lovely. I’m lucky as I live in Scotland & have just finished watching the latest great British sewing bee. It was the best one yet. Wishing you a happy summer.

      Hi Christine! That Pebble Island yarn is absolutely gorgeous….I am so glad you love it too!!!! Where in Scotland? My parents were from Glasgow (Mom) and Ayrshire (Dad)…I was born here in Canada :) I LOVE the Great British Sewing Bee….and while I am always a little leery of the changes they make, it always works out fine. I love Esme and Patrick - have you read Esme’s book? She’s had quite the life…. Thank you for spending some time with me. I hope you have a lovely summer also…. Take care, Anne

    I am glad to hear you are settling in well after your big move. Oh dear, what a disappointing - to put it mildly - laundry day you had! You might like to take a look at Tanis Fibre Arts - she does (or did, maybe it has been discontinued) a slightly variegated range called Green Label Aran Weight, 100% merino, some of them quite muted. It was ... ahem, superwash, but her newer washable yarns use a more environmentally friendly process. She is on a summer break right now but maybe there are stockists who have her yarn. Her current yarn range shows a worsted weight in variegated colourways.

      Hi Jane! Great minds! I do like TFA’s yarns….and for super wash, they are really nice! I’ll check on her in the fall when she gets back up and running…..I’m fully occupied right now with my ow s knitting and and my first quilt :) Thanks for the suggestion! Anne

    Great to hear from you. Your quilted bag is gorgeous but I will still resist quilting for now..
    For the Aran weight yarn you should check out Riverside studio yarn although I suspect their Aran yarn is lighter than the yarn that you are trying to replace. They do have some really lovely variegated yarns which are pretty conservative.

    Pre-pandemic I was not much of a shawl knitter, partly because I like to knit in the Scottish way with long straight needles and you can’t really do that with a shawl. .However I just finishing the Impressionist shawl which I learned about through one of your Podcasts so you definitely inspired me to do that. I also knit the Calla shawl by Natasja Hornsby In Riverside studio DK.

    I'm still working on Martin's KAL from 2019 and a Martin pullover for my husband - Apollo. Next up after those are finished are the KAL from this year - Georgia Farrell's throw. Arthritis in the hands is greatly slowing me down but I will persevere and get them done.

      Hi Gail! It’s not how fast you get there….it’s the journey. I sort of went bonkers with knitting the first year of Covid. With moving, clearing out, getting rid, it has really made me look at what I have and focus more on what I need….things that I wear all the time….love a good substantial wrap that I can curl up with on the couch….cardigans more than pullovers…..and surprise surprise, more cottons (as I’m always hot and the hubby is always cold) LOL!!! Hope you are well. Thanks for stopping by! Anne

    Re: The great British sewing bee...Have you watched 'The Foldline" vlog on UA-cam, and their British Sewing Bee, sewing pattern picks? They try to identify the patterns used or close approximations if you wanted to replicate them...or not, it's just an interesting 10/15 minute watch that you might like.

      YES, I have watched The Foldline…..I love all of their videos, even though I don’t really sew garments all that often….but I hope to and I love to hear what they say about the patterns…..I do love their new this month videos. Thanks for dropping by! Anne

    Anne your felting experience reminded me of doing something similar with a felted wool coat...I think I thought as it was already felted it wouldn't felt anymore.....it came out big enough to fit a 2 year old! Luckily my sister did have a 2 year old!! But I was so stunned at the reduction in size that I just couldn't help laughing. Sometimes you just have to roll with it! Here's hoping you find the perfect wool to recreate your husband's favourite item. What did he say to you when he saw it??! Thanks Anne for an enjoyable vlog. Linda

    • @AnneFeatonby
      @AnneFeatonby  2 роки тому

      Hi Linda! Wow, felting is always a bit of a crap shoot…..you have to keep checking it, does it felt evenly all over? I’ve wanted to do one of those hand felting classes where you start with fibre and roll it up in plastic and then beat it into felt LOL!!! Sounds like it might be great for stress relief yes? Hubby is very cool and calm about most things….and even though it was his favourite sweater, and it had been sitting literally for weeks on the dryer begging to be washed…..and then I wash it and ruin it…..he just said “don’t worry about it, throw it out …. But I would really like another one just like it!” LOL Hope you are well! It’s all a bit of a political mess over there right now isn’t it…… Thanks for popping in…. Anne

    Hi Anne ( or is it Ann ?, my middle name is Anne so I'll go with that ) When I was a kid my Mom knit me about 100 sweaters & made herself many dresses of ribbon knit silk etc. & also made herself alot of hats. I remember being a young teen and finally getting a store bought sweater that I just loved and of course it was the one that she accidently put in the laundry and shrunk up to nothing. So disappointing. I'm sure you 'll find some acceptable yarn and be able to make your husband an even better new sweater. He's lucky to still have you to make him things, and I'm sure he knows that.....take care.

      Hey Anne, good morning. Since you have answered me, I have another question for you. Where did you get the pattern for the mondo bag? Did you say it was a free pattern?
      I looked on their site but saw only kits for $29. ??

    • @AnneFeatonby
      @AnneFeatonby  2 роки тому

      @@deborahzamora479 Hi Deborah! It’s not a free pattern…… The “kit” is the instructions and the printed interfacing that you use to lay out your squares, which are fused on, then you do all your seams. Being fused to interfacing, makes it really easy to sew nice straight seams :) You could of course make a pieced outer layer for any bag pattern :) It was a fun project and allowed me to use up fabric that was taking up space :) IT IS A BIG BAG LOL!!!
