Think about this. These are 5000 pound trucks running 14.5's. That was Mustang GT acceleration back in the early 90's. So we basically have stock trucks that with some more tuning could dip in the 13's. We live in good times.
Hell, that’s nearly what my BMW 435i is doing. I sold it and got a 2015 F-150. I don’t think I will own a car again, except for maybe a fun weekend driver.
Think about this: The 800+ horsepower Challenger demon red eye (whatever it is) also weighs 5000 pounds with driver. (6.17 lb/hp) I have a 51 Ford pickup with a 650 hp Windsor that weighs 3000 pounds. (4.6 lb/hp) Don't want to seem overconfident...but...
@@Bthunder560 thats a silly way to look at it 🤷♂️ factory vs factory, thats like racing a gas vs a diesel, and saying, well if you put that turbo on the gas it would win.. silly
TO SAVE YOU SOME TIME! Racing is at 8:00 Stock for stock the ecoboost ran 14.64 @93.77mph. The coyote ran 14.66 @95.61mph. The coyote trapped about 2 mph faster. The ecoboost reached the line first by two one hundredths of a second. The tune somehow made the ecoboost only marginally faster for such a big gain on a dyno chart, trapping about the same as the stock coyote but dropping 3 tenths, which is decent. The coyote went a tenth quicker and trapped slightly slower with a tune....? Not sure what else to say. Go to Lund or AED for a coyote tune.
I was surprised when I saw the time difference with the ecoboost after the tune. I don’t know if they did more runs than that one, but I think something was off or the tune was off. Especially since on the dyno it only gained 30 rwtq. I’ve seen much bigger gains from tunes only on ecoboosts. I can tell you from personal experience that a good tune makes a MUCH bigger difference than what they had. I’ve seen a UA-cam video from fast lane trucks that had before/after at a drag strip with tune only and although I don’t remember the 1/4 mile times, the 0-60 times went from 5.9 stock to 4.4 with tune only. 1.5 seconds for 0-60 is going to be a much bigger gain in the 1/4 mile than what these guys had.
I just bought a new 3.5 4x4 supercrew. A little disappointed-thought it would atleast feel a little quicker than the older 16’ with its power gain and 10 speed, but mine sure doesnt. Want to wake it up a touch, but just dont want to jeopardize the warranty if that lazy shifting 10 speed does happen to grenade. If its tuned and it does have a problem and needs dealer work, can you flash it back to stock and make it so a tune was undetectable?
For all practical purposes they look equal. The v8 gets better fuel mileage when towing the EcoBoost gets better when empty. I'll take the v8 for less maintenance and upkeep.
Real world the EcoBoost and v8 get the same fuel economy unloaded. And once your into the higher speed limits around the country the v8 wins out over the ec-or-boost.
@@charliekohn4271 The 3.5 gets 3-4 mpg better than the 5.0 and the 2.7 gets roughly 5 mpg better than the 5.0. Go to fuelly.com and view hundreds of real world non biased fuel records... 5 mpg might not sound like much but if you have the 36 gallon tank that is an extra 180 miles on every tank of gas with the 2.7 liter.
I drive a LOT and often sit in my vehicle for over 12 hours a day. I am so conflicted as to what size and engine choice in going to purchase - since I want a SuperCrew AND a 6.5” bed with the 2.7. But idk in all honesty, the 3.5 is impressive, but the extra mpg of the 2.7 seems like a more economical decision.
@@randycupp5925 I've had real world experience with both 3.5 and 5.0 trucks and the 5.0 has always matched or beat the 3.5 depending on conditions. For example the last 1 way 3 hour 80mph run we made the 5.0 in the group made both directions on far less gas and it had more bikes, gear, and people in it.
@@charliekohn4271 Awesome! Good to hear that you have real world experience with both. I am not trying to advocate for any particular engine choice. I just think people should research what is best for them before they purchase.
Owned a 2012 Ecoboost and currently own a 2014 Coyote. At 67k miles the Ecoboost went into limp home mode. Condensation from the inter cooler got into the cylinders. The Coyote is still running strong at 107k miles. I’ll stick with the Coyote, thank you very much! Plus it sounds great with the Flowmaster Super 44!

@@blown5.062 It really depends on the money you want to invest! Personally, I can't justify the cost of adding the blower, but with my Eco, I just snuck into the 11's with a tune, panel filter, and removed resonator! Obviously if you want to get serious, the 5.0 is the way to go!
@@Tb0n3 The Stock Tuned 3.5 was 321 HP and 370 Torque at the tires.... Even tuned the 3.5 ecoboost give 373 hp So getting over 400hp at the tires is way more than an ecoboost 3.5. But if you want to compare apples to apples, we can boost the 5.0 coyote, Roushe sells the supercharged coyote thru the Ford dealerships and it even comes with a 100 000 mile warranty and makes over 650 hp and the crew cab does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds
If its built after 2018, ive got to disagree. They removed the cylinder liners in the aluminum block and replaced it with some slick spray. Works about as well as you expect, look up some videos of the sound and the scarring
Depends on how much towing you do. If you don’t tow much then absolutely go 5.0. I own a 2015 3.5eb and I love the massive towing torque. Actually I love everything about it... except for the sound... I HATE the way it sounds but I tow all the time so its Something I have to deal with. But If both those truck were strapped with max weight 12k lbs trailers I can guarantee the EB would gap the coyote bad.
This was info I've been interested in learning about since I got my first F150 back in 2015. From my perspective after watching the video, you really don't get much gain with either for the money of the tune. I tow so will stay with my stock 2019 3.5 Eco.
i also believe the ecoboost is a bunch of lies... eco boost has been known to get worse fuel eco while towing... my 5.0 got 24mpg going 75mph it was also 4wd
Honestly I’m ecstatic over the factory power of my 2022 F150 5.0. That thing is a beast on sports mode and sounds so much better than the eco boost when you push that V8. It feels more like a sports car than a truck a lot of times.
I picked up a powerboost the other day. I will never sound like a v8, but that 430hp and 570ft-lb is no joke. Now that it is tuned, I added 100hp and 90ft-lb more! Leaving the exhaust stock as the V6 sounds gross, but it's nice I can plug the camper into the back and run it off the hybrid battery. The air conditioner and all!
At least the guy at the red light who you’ll never meet will say “hey that sounds like all the other trucks on the road.” Anybody who cares about performance will go with the ecoboost. But nice sound bro. Lol
Agreed. The 3.5 ecoboost was an easy choice for me when I bought my 2019 f150. I used to have a 2011 mustang with the 5.0 coyote. I miss the sound, but only until that low-end torque kicks in.
Agree!! I had the 5.0 with a 40 series dumped but now I have the ecoboost. Lol you just cant beat the power and the towing of the EB. Just do the VTE mod it makes up for the sound
@@Brandon_Nelson92 I test drove a 2019 f150 with the 3.5L and 3.55 gears. Was not as impressed as the hype I heard before I drove it. From 0-40 it felt lazy. I didnt feel this "mountain" of low end torque people keep talking about lol. Had alot of turbo lag. At about 50-60 mph it felt a little more peppy. But that 10 speed sure wasn't as quick shifting as Ford advertised them to be. Not trying to knock your truck. Just didnt have the experience everyone else said they have when they drive it. And I was coming from a 2015 quad cab 4x4 ram with the hemi and 8spd. The 2019 f150 did not feel any quicker. Also test drove a 2019 Silverado 4 door 10 speed with the 6.2L. Again...not impressed. I really think the tuning software in the new 10 speed for ford and chevy is what holds both trucks back. Anywho. Not knocking on you or your truck.
Evan Bozajian when the transmission is in normal mode the truck is a little lazy but when in sport mode it takes off like a rocket! I have a ‘17 3.5 ecoboost screw 4x4 with the 3.55 gears btw. I think there is a lot of torque management going on to keep from damaging the drivetrain and to help with fuel economy as well.
The 5.0 held its own pretty damn well. I just don’t trust smaller engines with turbos as much as an N/A v8 when it comes to actual reliability. And you can’t argue with the sound of a v8. Heck, sound is half of it. If they could just make the eco boost actually sound good, they would sell way more.
@Tony The Truck Guy I’m with you on the no trust in twisting the nuts on a squirrel to make a 6 run like an 8 cylinder, regardless of the platform(car vs. truck)!!! As far as whether the Eco-flop sells more than the 5.0 Coyote, that has more to do with those near tree huggers and idiots who think they are getting better performance initially than the truth over time!!! When I was growing up(back when it was Mustangs making these kind of numbers and trucks couldn’t touch low 16’s) if you were going to add a turbo or a supercharger to and engine, the very FIRST thing you did was to overbuild the bottom end of the motor(forged crank, forged pistons, splayed four bolt main bearings, stronger piston rings), then you upgraded the heads with studs for fastening hardware, roller rocker arms, better lifters and improved push rods, then you added the turbo or supercharger!!! I can guarantee that none of that has been done for these mass produced, short life, exploder motors!!! The fact that there aren’t massive complaints about major engine failures with these eco-bitch motors is simply because Ford manufacturing has got to be suppressing the information!!! For all the reasons I just pointed out, those eco-bombs are just that, bombs waiting to explode!!! Yes, every engine is capable of a catastrophic failure regardless of it’s make up! But when the engine is built small to begin with, then you add a device that increases internal pressures exponentially, without building the failure points stronger to prevent failures, FAILURE is the best you can expect!!!
I mean, sound or not, the 3.5 Ecoboost is the same motor that won Lemans. I love coyotes, but that racing pedigree means I refuse to make fun of Ecoboosts
Just got my 150 Lariat sport 3.5 and I can tell you it blows the doors off of my former Ram Rebel 3.6 and as much as I loved my Rebel the Lariat Sport is much nicer but the Sport was 73k new and the Rebel was 45k new. Happy with the upgrade. I also am not one for loud noises so the more quiet Eco is fine with me vs the louder v8
Why? The 3.5 has a more direct valve actuation; direct acting lobe over bucket vs. followers for the Coyote. Also the 3.5 revs 1000 rpm less at WOT shift. More cylinders does not simply mean more durable...duh.
Why? Because living in Alaska is fucking tough. Which means tough on whatever equipment you're running. Hands down, I'd choose the 5.0 over any of ford's dumbass gas motors. Saying that, over half of the people who thought/bought the POS ecoboost, broke down and couldn't hang. As far as longetivity. Like I said, fuck that ecoboost
Since the 2.7 EB if the F150s most popular engine overall (and what I own as well) I'd love to see a 2.7 EB tested under the same conditions (same lift/wheels/tires, same tuner, same dyno, same track, similar weather) and then compare to the 3.5 EB and the 5.0 !
I used to be a Chevy guy for many years, but after buying a Ford 2019 F-150 2.7 Ecoboost 6 cylinder and now I'm a Ford Guy. Ford has more space in the cabin and improved on the engine. I just purchased an F-150 2021 Coyote 4x4 and I see the difference. I just purchased a cold air intake to get more HP and a little more fuel economy. Currently I get about 19mpg on highway and 16mpg city. I'll post the new numbers after I get that cold air intake installed.
Great equal comparison. I would like to see what both trucks do with a 5 star tune. Their website says 110 HP and 130 FT Lbs gained with just a tune on the ecoboost.
Love the performance and sound of my 2019 Roush Coyote, especially with the Roush exhaust. But, definite props to the EcoBoost, too. But, a Bama tune is not where it’s at. I went with the Oz Omega X tune and I couldn’t be any happier with the performance and outright power from Oz.
I went with MBRP exhaust the AFE 11 airflow kit and my coyote on 33" 305's dominates pretty well everything up to 220. First 4 gears is ridiculous than 5 and 6th is just limitless
@@02hreblue30 If you pay the full asking price, which I didn’t pay anything close to. I couldn’t have modded a regular Lariat with everything I have on my Roush Lariat for less than I paid for my Roush. I paid $60K for my Roush brand new, that came with a Fox 2.0 leveling suspension, a Roush cat-back exhaust, 33” all-terrain tires, a console safe, fender flares and more. So, getting $20K off the tag was not a bad deal for my Roush, brand new, at all.
After watching this video I bought a 2023 5.0 F150. They don't seem to be having all the problems that the 3.5 Ecoboost are having with lubrication and cam phasers.
Stay stock, stay happy. Just got a 2019 SuperCrew FX4 with the 3.5L and max trailer tow package. My normal tow is a tritoon along Cherokee Foothills Parkway so not heavy at around 5000lbs but lots of grades and a parachute, usually run around 65mph. Other vehicle I normally tow with is a 90k mile 2005 Hemi Durango with five speed auto. First trip with the F-150 was a dream. Similar fuel mileage on the route but the ten speed and low RPM torque....man, I love it. Uphill runs in fifth and sixth vs second and third. I guess it's cool trying to get a refrigerator to run low 12's but I don't plan on doing anything more than routine maintenance.
I have the the Blue Jeans Metallic FX4 2015 and it is by far my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I got the sports package but it only gets like 13.9mpg. I definitely drive it carefully in the rain when turning but when its dry it is a great lil speedy truck and the space for the supercrew is superb. A very fine truck.
In November of 2017 I went to the Ford Truck dealer, and told them I want a truck with electric windows and mirrors. I drove away with a 3.5 EB with more power than any car I ever owned before. Score. I think I own one of the few 2WD, standard cab, long bed F150 in my area. Lovin' it to this day.
5.0 is my preference. I admit the Eco is quick and has a good power curve. I just believe the 5.0 is so much less complicated and cheaper to maintain in the long run. I find it interesting that people I talk to with the Eco will brag about their fuel mileage and then after they get rid of them and get a 5.0 they say it’s not that much different. These are the 2015 to 2017 trucks, don’t know if newer ones are different. I’ve watched more than one comparison where they interview mechanics at a Ford dealership and all but a few will say they prefer the 5.0. That being said to each your own. It depends on what you do with your truck and what is important to you.
Jeffrey Sikora Yes I have if I try to daily it on a hot tune I will get fuel in the oil I keep it stock most of the time only turn it up on special occasions
I have a 2013. With all most the same but with 5 star tune. Yes, just like most boosted motors you will get blow by to the crank. Just change the oil like you would on an old car 3 to 5k miles, depending what your doing with it. Also, get a good catch can.
Thanxx guys. Can I ask a stupid question? If you pull in and check the oil right away. Is the dipstick covered about all the way up? I get crazy high oil levels and if I do. later the level goes back down towards the normal zone. I was told by the dealer that when you drive oil comes up the down tube for the dipstick. And if you had the dipstick out oil would spray all over. I’ve never seen this on older vehicles. Any opinion?
The real story here is that in stock form, either truck turns a mid-14 second quarter mile. Sick muscle cars from the late 60s ran those kinds of numbers on factory tires.
It’s amazing how well the ecoboost keeps up with the 5.0 coyote being that the ecoboost is a 6 cylinder. I would lean towards the ecoboost since you’re getting about the same performance but less money out of pocket. I’m glad Ford came out with the ecoboost, it’s a ecobeast!
the 2.7 ecoboost is no cost base engine, the 5.0 adds a few thousand to the price, and the 3.5 liter adds an additional few grand, just bought a new 5.0!
@@jerettbell4147 Actually, if you buy it for towing, the 5.0 will cost more by the time you add the missing options that Max Tow adds, and still not have the full capacity.
@@acdii if ur buying a gas engine half to pickup for for towing ur prolly not gonna be in good shape anyway...obviously it depends on the weight ur towing but lets say ur towing 7500 pounds or more on the regular the engine wont hold up anyway. That goes for any gas engine in any manufacturers platform.
So one thing to take into consideration and not many people talk about it is the lack of weight needed when trying to tow something. I have a 2015 F150 Platinum Ecoboost. Chose the F150 for the get around gas and the Ecoboost for towing the boat and trailer. Supposed to be the best of both worlds. Well one thing I learned is, the reduction of weight from a smaller engine, aluminum body, shorter bed, REALLY affects hauling a 24ft boat or 29ft trailer. I had to back my trailer down a hill into a spot once and the trailer just dragged me. Low gear, trailer brakes everything working fine, but the weight of the truck wasnt enough to keep the truck from sliding. Ended up pulling the trailer back up, disconnecting and a 2500 put it in place. Boat is a 24ft deep hulled boat, no wind, no brakes, the boat rocks the truck driving a straight line. Next truck will be a F250, but for the 90% driving around town, it will hurt to have an oversized, over powered truck to run to clients... If you just want a truck to race and be fast... stick with the Eco F150... period. But for all around practicality the V8 would be better...
For those uneducated, this is the story of a factory turbo’d engine vs NA. In the majority of the situations similar, the turbo engine will always prevail due to the fact of the added complexity of being turbocharged, which those are the money makers on the engine. NA engines only have what the have, tunes aren’t gonna change much without some engine modifications, such as an intake or exhausts, head/cam work, whereas with the turbo engine, the majority of the work is already done factory, as it takes quite a bit of bulletproofing to an engine to sustain the increased torque load and intake pressures brought on by the forced induction of the turbochargers. Simply turn up the juice and PSI, in a manner of speaking. Granted yes, boosting the Coyote would bring far greater yields, that’s not what this video is about. This video is about full factory plus tunes. Hopefully this clears any simple, or close-minded thinking on the subject.
Honestly, excellent test love how all the variables are the same. Same company tunes, wheels, trans, rear end and ratio. I'm a Chevy guy, but the cyotoe 5.0 is badass N/A engine!
So, to recap what we learned today, Ford just needs to make a 5.0EB. By my calculations, that would make about 535hp and 576tq at the wheels on this truck. That was easy...now Ford...get to it!
Craig Williams your missing his point the same would happen with the 5.0 as with the v6 it would give better power and fuel mileage . Though quite honestly I’ve never seen an eco boost out fuel mileage a 5.0
@@craigwill4324 - Of course I know this...I was kinda making a joke. Sorry it was not obvious enough for you. A 5.0 EB would be awesome but Ford will never do it. Could you imagine if they did, though?
Maxime Emond actually lots of people do... and there are good tunes for the 5.0 using E85 making nice power. Since you know, the 5.0 is a flex fuel daily driver vehicle after all...
The coyote definitely sounds better, but the ecoboost performs better. Run a heavy trailer behind eaxh truck at the strip and watch the ecoboost smoke the hell out of the coyote. Tgw ecoboost has a power band that comes in quicker and is significantly wider in range, not to mention the higher peak numbers to begin with. Trucks are for towing and hauling, so the ecoboost is the best choice.
It totally depends on what you are doing with it in my opinion. I love my EB and I also love the Coyote, but the towing with the EB is great, and it isn't working so hard. I love hearing the Coyote screaming, but not all the time, which is what you will deal with if towing in the mountains. EB for me.
I grew up with my 66 Pontiac LeMans blueprint motor only believed in 8 cylinder after leasing Ford explorer with the EcoBoost for my wife fell in love with the motor ended up in a 2014 F-150 EcoBoost for myself absolutely loved it total workhorse just traded it for 2018 EcoBoost fully loaded I'm in love all I can say
Eh, it's similar to how the old 302 windsor was in the F-150's. It was okay, but it didn't have great low end grunt so you had to be willing to get on the gas in order to get the thing moving at a decent clip. The Coyote is a high strung engine, it makes most of it's power at higher RPMs. Fine for a Mustang, but not ideal for a truck. The 10 speed really helps the Coyote more than it does the EB. With the older six speed trucks, the EB had a decisive advantage, it's got gobs of low and mid-range torque (which is what you want in a truck), so it moved the truck around with less effort. The ten speed brings the coyote up to near parity in terms of outright performance as it keeps the coyote on boil when you're on a full-throttle run. The EB doesn't benefit as much from the ten speed as it has a wider powerband.
Gonna agree Stock to stock when I throw the 5.0 into sport mode I end up taking the e boosts by a length or 2 I don’t get it. I get Ford wants the E boost to be the future but...
If you just take a look at these priceless beautiful trucks. The 3.5 and 5.0 both presenting unbelievable power and specs. What a great performance package. Amazing machines.... “We’re going to take these do keys to the track”
Got my 16 F-150 2.7L EB and it's got plenty of get-up for me to enjoy and plenty of torque for the kind of towing I do if I need it. Everyday driving is what matters to me and while I LOVE the sound of that throaty V8 I can't help but lean toward practicality. I don't need to pay 15%+ more for fuel just to get the good sound. Ford is doing it right with the EB engines and these 2nd gen EBs in the 2015-2019 F150s are much more reliable than the 1st gen and since I don't drag race a TRUCK I'm not worries about the 1/4 mile time, although it's no surprise that the 3.5 EB wins out when you consider the power/weight ratio and the advantage that turbos offer to a naturally-aspirated V8 which doesn't get that same *cheat code* benefit that turbos offer. But to each their own - get a truck that you like and if you got money to blow, get the V8.
I work on a fleet of f150 for npl a construction company and all have high 200k plus for miles and the most we have had to do to the engines besides on time oil changes is water pumps and spark plug replacement that's it and the fleet has over 30 trucks to it so if the ecoboost is properly maintained it will last just as long as any vi engine
I thought about the 5.0 but noticed they were having reliability problems with burning oil, making strange sounds, and they went with the new plasma spray-in cylinder liner tech which apparently has been causing issues as well. The Eco boost for the 2.7 after 2018 and 3.5 after 2017 seem much more reliable as they are on their second versions and you get the better gas mileage as well.
More torque for pulling, better power band, why would anyone want the 5.0? If you want more displacement, go get a Hemi or an LS. The only people who care what it sounds like are the ones behind me.
@@shaunelijah455 why not get out of your recliner and find out that Justin knows what he is talking about. The problems he listed are known facts… well to most truck guys anyway. And enjoy the early death of the five oh with cylinder deactivation now as well 😝
5.9Aaron it’s not the point just stop arguing. It needs turbos to have less displacement and still have better gas mileage. A 3.5 v8 n/a would make less power and use more gas than a 3.5 eco boost
Camp Matthew yeah do it again I have a fucking v8 you don’t think it pisses me off when people say their 6 cylinder makes more horsepower with a turbo?😂 it’s just called the future buddy!
Not sure how all you guys drive, when I was in Colorado and had my 2014 3.5 (last year of the steel body), I mostly get 18-19 mpg empty, and 13 mpg towing 6K lb. And it just had so much torque down low. In the mountain, my 3.5 was often one gear higher than any V8 trucks. I rented a 2015 5.0 (Aluminum body truck) once after I sold my 2014 to tow my buddy’s car. It was not bad. But comparing with my 3.5, I found myself flooring it more often and using 2nd gear more often in the mountain. In the mountain with high elevation, turbos all the way! It just feels so unstressed.
The only thing that’s saving the 3.5 is turbos. Ford decided to put a cheap in house cylinder wall coating in the 5.0. That’s why it it’s consuming oil. That is all fords fault so they can push the ecoboost program. Fuck ford for that.
I would have to think that the 5.0 would have less issues over stock with that tune and the ecoboost would potentially has more issues with that much more power.....I could be wrong
They are pretty close, especially if you consider a V8 being naturally aspirated. Based on personal research of ecoboost engines, they have some issues from the factory. I personally think that if you stick with a V8, you'll get better reliability/longevity and performance in the long term.
eh, that's on the owner. My 3.5 has 217,000 and has been race tuned from MPT since 125,000. Couldn't ask for much more and it puts down much more power than these can tunes.
The Ecoboost if driven conservatively, can give you amazing fuel mileage. Unsure of how well the 5.0 would do, but nonetheless, both are great options for these trucks, as is the 2.7 eb.
I love both. Currently I own a 3.5 and when I bought it I expected it to sound bad. However that is not the case. The trick is to leave the exhaust stock and as quiet as possible. The engine and turbo are actually descently loud and when that turbo spools it sounds awesome. Ive listened to all the aftermarket exhausts for the ecoboost and I agree they all sound absolutely horrendous. They try to force a deep tone out of it and it just ends up droning. If I was forced to do an exhaust I would do take offs from something like a 370z or one of the new inline 6 bmws.
@@sergeysmelnik Bmw guy here, I made this mistake NEVER get rid of the resonators will drone awful. Borla sounds good with my 3.0 i6 nice and throaty. Dont know how that would translate to a v6.
Turbo 6 can sound pretty awesome when done right. I would take a truck that sounds like this video at the 20 second mark all day long. ua-cam.com/video/iDGFsl3Uni8/v-deo.html
I have a 16 3.5 twin Ts on 35s and love it. I haven’t done a tune on it yet but plan on it but my eco boost is doing like 4.7-4.8 secs in 0-60 which is pretty good
I know this is going to sound weird but ecoboost vs 5.0 is personal preference. They both have their strong points and weaknesses. With that said, I don't care how fast my truck goes. I care about my fuel economy in tow/haul mode with a 4k pound trailer behind it!
I think he was saying the turbos are expensive. Turbos live in the worst of areas, high heat and spinning millions of miles an hour make them very failure prone, especially new turbos. As for the 3.5 eco boost I am not aware of “ motor failures” making them less reliable than the coyote, but time will answer that.
A guy I go to church with bought 3 trucks for his company, 2 eco's and 1 v8. He loved the eco' at first then 2 years in nothing but problems out of the eco's. All 3 had about 100,000 on them. The v8 was the only one that had never been in the shop. The eco's had been multiple times.
Could they have been quicker launching in 2wd against the talk converter? Being an Aussie I don't know much about these awesome machines, so just wondering..
Same with my old 99 Ford 7.3 it ain't fast but it's dependable and pulls anything that i need it too plus i have the crew cab and a full 8ft bed as for me i love my truck . The new ones are real nice and i think about it every now and again but there is a reason that i have kept my truck for almost 14 yrs. now.
I have had all 3, Ecco,, 2.7,, 5.0 , I love my 5.0, When your 2.7 is running, pop the hood and pull the oil cap off, it sounds like a rod knocking...!!!! Took mine back to the dealer, they said they all sound like that, I told them to keep it and I bought a 5.0.
Direct-injection turbo engines tend to chatter a bit, thats just the nature of the engine. You honestly could've just been hearing that! Thanks for watching. -Zach
I have the 2018 Coyote and my son has a 2016 3.5 ecoboost. Never tried to race him as i already know the results. But, that first cold start up with my flowmasters is music to my ears compared to his. Just have always been a v8 guy and never cared about turbochargers as if they go out , thats a pretty penny to be paying for some new turbochargers. But, he loves his ecoboost and i love me some Coyote....
He is just doing the canned tune that comes with the programmer. If he would do e50 tunes on both of them with high boost tune on the ecoboost, then u will see that a tuner is well worth the money
Like Justin said, these are canned tunes. An E50 tune on the 3.5L ecoboost will SPANK the coyote. Dollar for dollar...the ecoboost can't be beat for getting massive gains. I'm running a 5 star E50 tune on my 2018 and it puts out over 500 hp and 620 lb-ft to the wheels (dyno proven). I regularly surprise camaro ss, corvettes, and mustang GTs (I don't BEAT them but they don't beat me, either).

Think about this. These are 5000 pound trucks running 14.5's. That was Mustang GT acceleration back in the early 90's. So we basically have stock trucks that with some more tuning could dip in the 13's. We live in good times.

Stock for stock the ecoboost ran 14.64 @93.77mph.

My brotha!!
Thank you always someone! 🙏
Moral of the story,do NOT get a crappy bama tune.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Haha
Risk losing your factory warranty, if she goes down, all for roughly 3 tenths of a second. Sounds logical. Lol

If its tuned and it does have a problem and needs dealer work, can you flash it back to stock and make it so a tune was undetectable?
zukimaniac tune only yes haven’t tried my e30 tune yet. But I love the MPT TUNE really wakes the truck up.

But that 10 speed sure wasn't as quick shifting as Ford advertised them to be.

The 2019 f150 did not feel any quicker. Also test drove a 2019 Silverado 4 door 10 speed with the 6.2L. Again...not impressed.
They literally sell more ecoboost f150’s then 5.0 🥱 sorry
@Tony The Truck Guy
I’m with you on the no trust in twisting the nuts on a squirrel to make a 6 run like an 8 cylinder, regardless of the platform(car vs.

I have an ecoboost and love it but I have always been a V8 fan in heart and I’m impressed of the similarities in both of them after the upgrade
I am pretty surprised by these results, but I guess the bottom line is, that coyote still has room to grow, aka it too can be boosted.
A properly tuned 3.5 Ecoboost on E50 puts down 553 hp and 617 tq at the wheels...
@@Treyk901 yeah ok everybody runs e50 in their daily's... smh
Choice for me goes to the naturally aspirated V8.
Enjoy your view of the EcoBoost tailgate...😁

It totally depends on what you are doing with it in my opinion. I love my EB and I also love the Coyote, but the towing with the EB is great, and it isn't working so hard. I love hearing the Coyote screaming, but not all the time, which is what you will deal with if towing in the mountains. EB for me.

Gonna agree
Stock to stock when I throw the 5.0 into sport mode I end up taking the e boosts by a length or 2

YES_------a guy with evidence. Thanks!
WHO is BSing you son, FORD??? Why not get off your couch and go talk to REAL mechanics, (licensed for MORE than 10 years) at ANY Ford dealership
More torque for pulling, better power band, why would anyone want the 5.0? If you want more displacement, go get a Hemi or an LS. The only people who care what it sounds like are the ones behind me.

Exactly like this is pointless the ecoboost has turbos its able to make much more power
5.9Aaron That’s not the point of this video... It’s not, what can you build the truck to be, it’s what can a tune do for a stock truck.
Single digit mileage hello
So at the end of the day, we get the same result as the last 9 years. Ecoboost V6 beats the V8. End of debate
id still like to see a 5.0L v8 with twin turbos
The only thing that’s saving the 3.5 is turbos. Ford decided to put a cheap in house cylinder wall coating in the 5.0. That’s why it it’s consuming oil. That is all fords fault so they can push the ecoboost program. Fuck ford for that.

I buy used and chose the V8 because it's not turbocharged and will probably last longer
Mark Rutan me too, and it will be cheaper to maintain and repair.
So I guess all Diesel engines dont last long because by your logic they have TURBOS?
The coyote isn't the ls engine. The ecoboost will probably outlive the coyote if you maintain the truck well
And yesterday averaged 25.2 MPG with 3.5 on the highway, without cruise on and reducing throttle on light inclines for an hour
Own a 2019 3.5 and I love it. Runs very well.

He is just doing the canned tune that comes with the programmer. If he would do e50 tunes on both of them with high boost tune on the ecoboost, then u will see that a tuner is well worth the money
