Only 5 minutes?! You’re being too kind. I want the key content, but way too much verbiage. In the words of Jon Bon Jovi; “don’t bore us; get to the chorus”!
I paid $3100 Canadian for Acceleration Boost on my 2021 Model 3 LR AWD. 0.5s faster 0-60 (4.2 to 3.7). Well worth it! You also retain your factory warranty unlike other cars you can mod.
I have a base model Y and for me it has more power than I’ll ever want. Every time I step on the pedal all I can think of is how quick my tires are going to wear out if I don’t stop racing it from a stand still 😂.
@@manealst7249 it is very very little. You almost certainly will not notice it. It’s just not worth the money at all. Get a performance model 3 if you want performance.
@@manealst7249From what I have found from other videos on UA-cam. The stock horsepower is around 380. The acceleration boost unlocks the full potential of the motor and get you roughly 100 more horsepower. So roughly 480 horsepower with the acceleration boost. It improves the zero to 60 time. However the quarter mile trap time and speed pretty much stay the same. You can only do so much with a 4400 lb vehicle. My best guess was Tesla originally derated the motors to try to get more range out of the vehicle. They may have also derated them a bit to help with insurance rates on the vehicle.
My cousin just bought a Model Y with my referral code which will give me enough points to get Acceleration Boost for my Model 3 Long Range. I think I’m going to do it since it’s the best deal for referral points. I can’t justify spending $2K cash for it but I can for sure justify using the referral points 😁
I love my acceleration boost. My 2018 model 3 came fully equipped with SFD and the boost. I use it rarely but when I need, it’s a lot of fun. I would hate to give it. 3.5 sec 60 mile per hour.
Well it is Aug 2023 and I just got my new 2023 model Y long range vehicle. I have no plans on adding this Accel Boost to my vehicle at this time. The model Y goes fast enough for me without the additional boost, unless I want to go drag racing. All this boost does is impress your friends how fast it goes. And that is very short lived. I need to buy more important accessories than this $2,000 dollar Boost option at this time. The model 3 is better with the boost because you can get down to 3.7 seconds in 0 to 60 mph. Mainly because the model 3 is lighter than the model Y. When it comes down to it, if you really want a fast Tesla, get yourself a Plaid S which gets you down into to the 1.xx seconds in 0 to 60 mph. Where in the US highway systems do you need to go 160 mph - legally??? Also, That is if you have the money to buy it and all you want is speed. For those that have added the boost have fun with it if you really feel it is necessary.
If I owned a gas car with similar performance to the MY Long Range, how much would I have to spend to reduce the 0-60 time by the same amount as Acceleration Boost?
@@Ben-vy1ob It is my understanding that those increase the peak HP at high RPM at the expense of low-end power. Especially widen relying on turbos. Great for racing, but not for everyday driving. The Tesla boost upgrade gives more power throughout the speed bands and it’s always on tap.
@@Ben-vy1ob there is definitely some truth to this. I used to tinker with my cars and I enjoyed working on them. Now that I’m older, I’m not into that anymore, but I do still appreciate performance. EVs give me that without the need to work on them.

The coolest and the funniest thing about the acceleration boost or the FSD is simply u just do it with the software.
The answer to this question is no. By the time you upgrade to the middle size tire option and the performance boost, you are at the same price as just buying the performance model in the first place.
I wouldn't spend $2k on it, but i would spend 9500 credits easy. plus it does add $2k to your car value. MYLR + boost makes more sense to me than performance package - just based on tire cost and how often do you really even need the boost, really
If Elon wants/needs to juice the bottom line numbers, how about putting the acceleration boost on sale for $1,000. Ill jump on that. Rhis sale will piss off fewer people then somr of the other stunts.
Dave...I appreciate your sensible advice. I really wish the autopilot upgrade didn't cost $6000. I get tired of having to re-activate autopilot when I change lanes. The problem is....that it isn't worth $6000 to me. I wish they would a la cart some of these features. I probably would pay another $1000 for that feature....just for the convenience.
It’s worth 2000 bucks simply because if it was an ICE car the parts to make it that much faster with labor costs and not to mention voiding your warranty it would cost wayyyyy more than 2000 bucks. Numbers don’t lie. Yes math does not lie.
No thanks, what’s the point? Changing the subject, would you please publish a video that shows how to play my iPhone Amazon music app or Sirius XM app through the Tesla Bluetooth? Thnx!
Dave, A great channel for anyone who is interested in EV! Questions for you: How much does it cost to ride from CT to Naples and use Supercharger (with model Y)? And by using EA are we saving any money? Any issue using EA with a Tesla? Keep going with your channel. Very interesting!!!
Lovely video and reinforces my view that Tesla know that these things aren't really worth the money but will chance their arm that somebody will 'need' to dig deep to give them even more of their hard earned cash. I love my M3, but can resist the upwards of $10k to install all the bells and whistles to do stuff that here in the UK really doesn't make that much of a difference. Keep doing what you do Dave.
I would imagine that many Tesla owners will want the extra acceleration boost, no matter the cost. After all, they bought the car for its speed, sleek styling, status quo. I simply want NO tailpipe. The LEAF I owned before my Model 3 was fast enough for me. But I know some boys have to have their toys. And so do some girls, Kathy!
Dave, really enjoy your content. Love the stories. I think I see what’s happening with these little jaunts to Florida - Dave is scoping out some retirement locations? When will we get another EV stump?
You’re wrong. Even my frugal wife thinks it was well worth the $2,000. Not so much for the party trick of a quick start on an empty road. I disagree to me it was nothing more that a gimmick I rarely even use after the first week or so, the car already had more than enough acceleration to pass that 18 wheeler etc without a 2k boost which increases accel by like a whopping second
Maybe you might want to pixelate Kathy's license plate when posting UA-cam videos of it when you punch it up to "X" mph. Don't you have some sheriff watching these videos now? Hope it's not a Florida sheriff watching you guys.
I guess governments need to tax battery electric vehicle owners about five times as much as they do now, for the amount of mileage they will assuredly drive while exceeding the speed limit. Governments could call it "the JGU" tax. JUST GROW UP.

Just wondering for someone handy with math, what is the equivalent horsepower gain based on model Y's weight with the acceleration boost.
From what I have seen from other videos online it is roughly a 100 horsepower increase from 380HP up to 480ish horsepower.
