Yep! Chevy, Ford and Ram only may hyper luxury monster trucks. They’ve basically abandoned the tradespeople and farmers who used to buy their work trucks. The result is that tradespeople keep their vehicles alive for far longer than in the past. In our small tourist and ranching town, the average vehicle is probably 15 years old.

Hi Sam, greetings from Ecuador just yesterday I visited the raddar show room the raddar 4x2 with 86 kw battery is 42000 usd and they said the 4x4 will be available at 47000 usd, cars in Ecuador are heavily taxed yet this car will be cheaper than other full versions mide size cars, the interior looks awesome!!
Do you know, absent the Ecuador taxes on the car, what the price would have been? I'm trying to get an idea of what extra mark up, (exc Western world Govt dissuading taxes, lining their politicians pockets with bribes from the ICE industry) the Chinese will use when selling this over seas. i.e. I wonder if the 100-150K yuan price is discounted-subsidised in China?????

Sam, here in the US, Chevy, Ford and Dodge have basically limited themselves to being boutique manufacturers of super luxury monster pickups and SUVs. Their prices are so high that tradespeople can no longer afford them. My suggestion is that Ford, Chevy and Ram merge. The luxury monster truck market just isn’t big enough to keep all three afloat.

My friend, you have just announced something I've been wanting for over 20 years!!! A true compact, inexpensive but CAPABLE pickup truck! I currently own a Hyundai Santa Cruz, but these electric Geelys, especially the smaller version, is absolutely what I want in the US to replace that Santa Cruz.
Utes on the market today a way to massive Bring on an electric brumby! 2 seater, compact. They would sell like hotcakes. Could easily have the same range and carrying capacity and towing capacity and power as the original Brumby with all the capabilities/ driving qualities
Dual cabs here in OZ tow regularly. I have a model y, but also a Ram 1500 for work. Like all EVs, once you hook up a real world payload, the batteries can't handle it, and range becomes a huge issue as it gobbles Kwh
@@grantbuttenshaw BYD is on the positive. The lesson is to innovate and not to pursue fast gains on Wall Street. Also, personal responsibility for the managers. Western auto manufacturers are selling at a loss, so what is your point?
Viking, a rural American here. People tow trailers with their trucks all the time. It is central to their role. Towing currently destroys the range of EV trucks. This is one reason they will struggle in the US. Lack of utility. However I only do light hauling and occasional light towing so it would work for me personally.
One plus you didn't mention Viking was the V2L function offered by Radar, allowing work tools or camping gear like lights or stoves to be powered. On the original models ground clearance could have been increased, it was not suitable for serious off road work but even with that limitation the sales potential for Australian buyers at this price point is enormous.
Geely is already in the U.S.; Volvo and Polestar produce vehicles in South Carolina, so Zeekr can easily enter the U.S. The King Kong looks amazing, so looking forward to seeing it in various global markets. American full-size pickup truck sales have been declining over the past few years. Small and midsize pickups have gained popularity in comparison. Only hybrid and specifically electric full-size trucks are doing well here.
If there's a single cab with the longer tray, I'll be among the first to line up to test it. Otherwise, the one with a decent tray won't fit in my garage. My single cab Holden ute, with a tray longer than six feet, and which I will want to replace at some point, will fit. Not everyone who carries longer items needs a dual-cab.
The long bed version of this is the short bed version of the F150. F150 has a long bed version of 8 feet, and you can get a quad cab with holds 5 adults comfortably. I like small trucks myself and hope they bring this to America
Trailers, people. Heard of that? You hang it behind your car when you need it, so you don't need to drive around with a vehicle twice the size all the time.
What do you think of Mazda 6e? It definitely looks better than any other EV as design. It seems competently speced too. It is a car I would gladly drive for 15 or so years.
Do you know if that is the price Geely have set for the market, or due to some local Govt tax, that other countries might not have? I'm trying to get an idea of what (if any) mark-up Geely might add to its over seas sales.
I agree completely. This is what consumers want. It is hard to understand why the legacy automakers do not offer such vehicle. Unfortunately the US consumers will never see them at that price.
Hey in what world is US25k AUS30k??? The conversion is about 1.6x so 25k is actually 40k, BUT, Oz prices are never just converted, so you're saying 30k but it's likely 50-55k I'd say
This is exactly the kind of vehicle that Tesla needs to produce because there is demand for this kind of smaller compact EV pickup truck in every single country in the world.
Its a start. Heres the deal. Most Americans want F150, Silverado, and Ram 1500 size trucks. Until they can compete in that category, nobody will be scared. Come to the rural Midwest/South and you'll see what I mean. Here people pull heavy boats or other trailers regularly. Until towing is approaching 10000 lbs and 300 miles of range it wont catch on. Also has to be 4wd. I live in Minnesota and many plow snow with trucks as well.
@marcsimmonds5483 thats ok buy what you like. The city dwellers are not the entire car market though.Additionaly I live in the Twin Cities metro now, and plenty want and need truck for the lifestyle they choose. Which was my point!
Don't know how it will play out here in South Africa with a substantial vehicle manufacturing industry with decades of expansion & investment (for exports mostly) - I hear growing screams for protection. Brutal & hard times up ahead!
You can count the electric vehicles in South Africa ...on your one hand ......Fact ...!!!!..Electric Bakkies will NEVER sell in SA ....!!!....So keep them away ...!!!
@kingalfred3902 are you Nostradamus' evil twin? 😄 We are far behind schedule but economic realities & worldwide disruption won't stand back for Saffa preferences... When last did you take a steam train to work?
Canadian and 2016, F150 owner here. I patiently baby my truck and await the day BYD or Geely or whichever Chinese manufacturer send the electric equivalent. If its as rugged, properly equipped, gets 800 km range, carries the same payload and trailer weight, and priced well under 60 k, then i will buy it. I believe its only a matter of time. 80 - 100 k for a new truck is obscenely expensive and i believe i will never buy an American made vehicle again. The big 3 have failed most average consumers and are not giving us what we want.
Great show. The US needs to wake up and smell the coffee. We don't need the traditional dinosaur car companies that rip us off. These EVs are amazing. Less $ for military and war and more $ for this future.
You will never see one on the streets of the USA for so many reasons. But I agree that the legacy players need to reverse their pricing something closer to 2019. Oh, and dump EVs and put the research money into cars that people want!
Pure electric won’t take off. US is a huge place and like the rest of the world charging is patchy (you’re an ev guy but admit it at least). BYD is onto it with the hybrid and that’s for a good chance. Friends that brought a shark 6 here in NZ love it and I reckon it’s fantastic. The only option, it can’t climb and it can’t tow. Electric motors have a flaw of lack of torque when it’s not put through a multi speed gearbox to multiply it. Fit at least a 3 or 4 speed to it and they will have it Sussed
BYD and Geely also needs to make Caravan that have EV batteries on them and a electric motor that assist towing....... and also charges EV that tow it as it drives, and solar panels on it....
Sign me up as well. Getting my second Tesla Sedan when they release the refreshed Model Y. I like the range you quoted to replace my EcoDiesel (500 Mile Range) Then I can transport my paddleboards and Kayaks without polluting.
The last utes were made in Australia. A sedan front with a tray on the back is a ute. The yanks have pickup trucks with a different chassis type to our old utes.
This will be a great vehicle if the info is correct re: price in Aus/NZ. Also will it have V2H, in which case It's a house back up battery to-boot. SOLD !!
@billienomates1606 You may laugh but you know it's true. That's the reason why Chinese evs dominate the market here in Asean. BMW and Mercedes evs are way too expensive for the locals.
500km is 310 miles for most of us listening. My 2018 M3 has a 75kw pack and originally had a 330 mile range. So if these numbers are true then they're getting extremely good efficiency out of a truck.
@paulc6766 Regardless, when you're running a UA-cam channel you owe your audience both units of measure. Does it make sense for him to do the math once? Or for thousands of people to do it because he didn't? The metric system is way better. But the fact is that most of his viewers probably don't use that system.
That's what Ford is probably doing with that skunk work. We'll find out later of next year, hopefully fast charging is one of the highlights. Rivian could do that too but it's not in their plans at the moment.
Will these be the approx foreign pricing? Or is it just heavily discounted in the home (China) market? If all is approx as you say, likemyourself, Gelly sign me up as your first New Zealand customer
Sam! If there is little-to-no market for this sort of vehicle in China then it kinda stands to reason that it will 100% be sold outside China... no? (!!)
You’re not updated. It’s already in Thailand. People have ordered one, bought one and running one, As of the moment I’m speaking. There are four models in Thailand, two models with use 2 Wheel drive and two models which using four-wheel-drive different battery size different and price from 899000 thb to 1299000 thb. These cars from what I understand are made in China. I live in an area in Rayong province of Thailand, where they are producing and starting factories like BYD, Aion and more. Since Japanese manufacturers in Thailand, have made the court here for a long time starting to be a race of unemployment, but we’ll see if the Chinese car manufacturers are coming to a replace that one more thing that is very important in this is automation, Aion in Thailand, and Rayong is from. I have heard quite automated factory, which means it will not create the amount of labor force that some might want. In Thailand the brand’s name is Riddara! FYI
We all need this. America Europe Africa China Australia Japan needs this! Right now the $120,000 Cyber Truck is out of reach for 99.9% of the general population. Only the ultra rich can afford a $120,000 EV Truck. Rivian DM $72,000 and Rivian loss per truck is $40,000 so that EV Truck should be $112,000 which is out of reach for Americans or the World. A general public EV truck $13,000 with optional battery TYPES and optional battery size. A EV with NaCl or LFP or NMC or LMgFP or SS battery type is the key to our EV future. We all need this.
EV battery types are changing advancing so fast EV companies must account for diffrent types of EV battery. That is the EV Today. NIO replace those AAs or AAAs EV battery is a joke. Maybe a Nuke Battery would work on a NIO design but not EV battery today.
You will never see this vehicle in the United States… And if you did about 2 million jobs would be lost in the auto industry. And that’s not gonna happen.
Not sure that the resale on a $13,700 car will be all that worrying. Overall, Ev's are depreciating by about 48% in their first three years and ICE by 42%. That imbalance is because EV's are getting cheaper rapidly.

Or the 80's/90s 2dr Jap one tonner style utes. Simple, tough, light, reliable, great 8 ft by 4 ft tray
The Zeekrs look good.
About time they made a smaller ute with a bigger tray.
Just send it over here iin a box. I'll build it myself.
Dual cabs here in OZ tow regularly. I have a model y, but also a Ram 1500 for work. Like all EVs, once you hook up a real world payload, the batteries can't handle it, and range becomes a huge issue as it gobbles Kwh
There is this amazing technology that helps your truck handle large building materials its called a lumber rack
Let this be a harsh lesson for the managers of the western auto brands.
wrr
What lesson is that?
Sell every EV at a loss like every single Chinese manufacturer?
@@grantbuttenshaw BYD is on the positive.
The lesson is to innovate and not to pursue fast gains on Wall Street. Also, personal responsibility for the managers.
Western auto manufacturers are selling at a loss, so what is your point?
@@fcalin21 BYD make a loss on BEVs...
@@fcalin21 BYD are a listed company....they have to make money or nobody will invest.
Viking, a rural American here. People tow trailers with their trucks all the time. It is central to their role. Towing currently destroys the range of EV trucks. This is one reason they will struggle in the US. Lack of utility. However I only do light hauling and occasional light towing so it would work for me personally.
Wow! So much for Toyota, Ford, and GM in the PU market, a favorite with Americans. The PU is also popular in SEA.
I read for international markets, its to be called 'RIDARRA' RD6
Cool !!! .. hope it makes it here .
Will polestar / branch of geely survive or eventually become profitable or fold like jiyu?
Yep that may be my second electric. Can it offload power to the home?
I'll believe that price when they are available. 😊
I said for years GM needs to bring back the small S10 but in an electric vehicle, but make it affordable.
Not everyone who carries longer items needs a dual-cab.
fun fact: Geely is the transliteration of good luck(吉Ji利li)
Can you get with a steel tray
Not Ute back ?
Just need a suv version as many will buy.
Yes please where do i sign at that price
The long bed version of this is the short bed version of the F150. F150 has a long bed version of 8 feet, and you can get a quad cab with holds 5 adults comfortably. I like small trucks myself and hope they bring this to America
I’ll be the first in line in Canada!
Trailers, people. Heard of that? You hang it behind your car when you need it, so you don't need to drive around with a vehicle twice the size all the time.
Range is still the problem for Australia, we need 600km pulling a van
Or more solar powered charging stations enroute. Lugging around a huge battery makes little sense.
They should make a atandarised port in the bed of the truck so you could plug in an extra battery or a diesel generator.
We have the Ford Maverick and it sells great though not for everyone depending on usage
What do you think of Mazda 6e? It definitely looks better than any other EV as design. It seems competently speced too. It is a car I would gladly drive for 15 or so years.
I was with you and I was actually considering one of these until you said that it was a blade battery....
We have this in Uruguay, the riddara rd6. But its $44000 (63kwh) and $53000 (86kwh)
Do you know if that is the price Geely have set for the market, or due to some local Govt tax, that other countries might not have?
I'm trying to get an idea of what (if any) mark-up Geely might add to its over seas sales.
In America we call it a bed, not a tray.
86kwh is still a tiny battery. They need at least 150kwh to make it a usable ute. 200+kwh would be better
I agree completely. This is what consumers want. It is hard to understand why the legacy automakers do not offer such vehicle.
Unfortunately the US consumers will never see them at that price.
Consumers want things that they can throw away in a few years......EV's are the perfect choice.
Paul has never driven a Ford Explorer. That transmissions and fuel pumps and interior plastic trim and electronics all gave up at 50,000 miles!
Sam ,Can someone in NZ buy direct from China ?
Hey in what world is US25k AUS30k???
The conversion is about 1.6x so 25k is actually 40k, BUT, Oz prices are never just converted, so you're saying 30k but it's likely 50-55k I'd say
Maybe because ute's are both commercially and family friendly vehicles. Basically an SUV with a bed instead of a boot?
This is exactly the kind of vehicle that Tesla needs to produce because there is demand for this kind of smaller compact EV pickup truck in every single country in the world.
Does anyone have any feedback on the pricing in countries outside of China, to see how much of a mark up they're using when selling outside of China?
All that's missing is great design.
A big majority of Americans live in cities and have little need for these gargantuan vehicles.
@marcsimmonds5483 thats ok buy what you like. The city dwellers are not the entire car market though.Additionaly I live in the Twin Cities metro now, and plenty want and need truck for the lifestyle they choose. Which was my point!
Yep sign me up please!👍
Don't know how it will play out here in South Africa with a substantial vehicle manufacturing industry with decades of expansion & investment (for exports mostly) - I hear growing screams for protection. Brutal & hard times up ahead!
You can count the electric vehicles in South Africa ...on your one hand ......Fact ...!!!!..Electric Bakkies will NEVER sell in SA ....!!!....So keep them away ...!!!
@kingalfred3902 are you Nostradamus' evil twin? 😄
We are far behind schedule but economic realities & worldwide disruption won't stand back for Saffa preferences... When last did you take a steam train to work?
Are they coming to Aus? Looking for a next EV ute. I think diesel car will be obsolete in few years or very less resell value.
Hello My Friends
.. Welcome to.. My name Sam Evans... Always guessing when Sam will say this intro 😂
Oh, and dump EVs and put the research money into cars that people want!
great truck...
Liked and sub'd from Hobart. Cheers. $0.02
If this truck is made in USA Im not sure they can pay the workers the normal wage in the US and sell it for $13,000
Pure electric won’t take off.
China is as big as US.
Like a lot of people, you predict the future by referencing the present. Everything is changing too rapidly for most to keep up.
You are so far behind
BYD and Geely also needs to make Caravan that have EV batteries on them and a electric motor that assist towing....... and also charges EV that tow it as it drives, and solar panels on it....
Sign me up as well. Getting my second Tesla Sedan when they release the refreshed Model Y. I like the range you quoted to replace my EcoDiesel (500 Mile Range) Then I can transport my paddleboards and Kayaks without polluting.
Explain this to somebody that cares ...!!!!!
SOLD !!
Chinese automakers are seemingly the only ones remaining who know (or care) about what consumers want.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@billienomates1606
You may laugh but you know it's true. That's the reason why Chinese evs dominate the market here in Asean. BMW and Mercedes evs are way too expensive for the locals.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
500km is 310 miles for most of us listening.
My 2018 M3 has a 75kw pack and originally had a 330 mile range. So if these numbers are true then they're getting extremely good efficiency out of a truck.
Miles, for those hard of learning.
@paulc6766 Regardless, when you're running a UA-cam channel you owe your audience both units of measure. Does it make sense for him to do the math once? Or for thousands of people to do it because he didn't? The metric system is way better. But the fact is that most of his viewers probably don't use that system.
If this pick up has vehicle to home capability it will be my dream come true and for 13,000$ 😱🤯
It's not 13k though. The lowest model will start at over 35k aus
@ around 20k. US$
@@prilep5 How with 100% Chinese tariffs going into the US?
Problem is in the US will add a $15,000 markup. Even the US companies can't figure out how to deal with their dealers.
That's what Ford is probably doing with that skunk work. We'll find out later of next year, hopefully fast charging is one of the highlights. Rivian could do that too but it's not in their plans at the moment.
Will the Geeley Radiar make it to the United States in 2026. Don't they still have that factory in the upper mid-west.
Will these be the approx foreign pricing? Or is it just heavily discounted in the home (China) market? If all is approx as you say, likemyourself, Gelly sign me up as your first New Zealand customer
Sam! If there is little-to-no market for this sort of vehicle in China then it kinda stands to reason that it will 100% be sold outside China... no? (!!)
Ah...you mean like Africa, Mexico, South America, Middle East and Europe? Yes, that's where they will be sold...
Where will I charge it if I don't have a driveway?
Probably somewhere near work would make the most sense.
@gravis2000 I'm a millennial I don't work
Ask the council to give you 13 Amp supply or buy a safety cover to make cable safe across pavement.
Charging infrastructure is a topic blissfully ignored on this channel.
More to the point where will you charge it out Bush or in the outback?
Sam, is it possible if you could do a video on electric cars you would like to have on sale in Ozzyland?
Gidday when you quote $$$,, What currency are you talking about ? ❤
FYI
Do you know if there are any extra local (Govt?) taxes which would indicate this may be even cheaper in countrues without EV prohibitive taxes?
